"This is weird," Katie blurted out, then, realizing what she had said might have been insulting, ducked her head to hide her blush.
Travis smiled and chuckled. "Yeah, a little. Who knew arch enemies would end up on a date together?" He rubbed the back of his neck nervously. "I thinking I'm going to say something stupid and ruin the whole thing," he admitted.
"Really? And all this time, I thought you hated me." Katie sipped her sweet tea. Travis had done really well, as far as dates go. The restaurant was perfect, a little café just a few blocks away from campus. It was affordable, too, and Travis did not put up a fight when Katie insisted she would pay for her own meal (though he did slip a ten dollar bill into her purse when he though she wasn't looking).
"Hate you? Maybe when we were just little kids. I thought you were annoying. Plus, you had cooties."
"Cooties, huh? I just thought you were obnoxious," Katie laughed.
"I resent that," he told her. "You're lucky you're pretty. Otherwise, I might not want to be your boyfriend anymore."
"Well, aren't you ambitious? This date isn't over yet. You could still ruin everything."
"Then I'll try my best not to."
