Callie is convinced that Boswell is stalking her. It has been three days since the incident and everywhere she turns the woman is there testing Callie's resolve as a medical professional to do no harm. It's as if the woman does not work and is around solely to destroy Callie's life. Not only is she after her wife but she is also working annoyingly close with her newly returned best friend. It is like the woman is trying to push her out of her own life.
Callie makes her way into the attending's lounge and throws up her feet on the chair. She let's her head drop back and closes her eyes. The door opens and Callie sighs. When she opens her eyes she finds Cristina and Meredith seated across from her at the table.
"What's up killer?" Cristina asks through a mouthful of potato chips.
"Funny." Callie responds grabbing Cristina's bag of potato chips. Cristina shrugs and proceeds to eat from Meredith's lunch. The blonde rolls her eyes but allows Cristina to steal her fries only stopping her when she attempts to snag her chocolate brownie.
"'Ms. Steal your girl is out there asking questions about you." Cristina offers in way of conversation.
"Oh yeah? What is she asking?" Callie asks tipping the remains of the potato chip bag in to her mouth.
"Oh you know the normal creeper questions. How are you and Arizona getting along? Are you guys fighting more? Do you own a pet rabbit?." Callie raises an eyebrow at the last question Cristina lists. "Okay, so maybe not that one but would it surprise you? This all kind of screams fatal attraction." Callie watches the two women as Cristina makes another play for the brownie.
"Do you think I have anything to worry about?" Callie hates the way she sounds but she can't help but voice her fears to people that would understand why she has them. Cristina immediately loses interest in the brownie and looks Callie straight in the eye.
"No, not where Arizona is concerned at least. She made a mistake but she loves you." Callie looks over to Meredith hoping her answer will be the same. Meredith nods her head.
"Arizona is not the one you should be worried about. She is committed to making your marriage work. Boswell..." Meredith says the name with annoyance and Callie can't help but smile a little. "is the one I would keep on eye on." Callie sighs in relief. Boswell she could deal with so long as she had Arizona. Meredith takes the brownie from her tray and pushes it across the table towards Callie.
"Here you need this more than we do."
It starts slow. No one else seems to notice and it makes Callie question whether the dirty looks and snide remarks are actually happening. So, Callie dismisses it because she has had worse directed at her from other women. However, the looks and remarks become more frequent and some begin to take notice. Bailey reminds her to rise above almost on a daily basis and Erica does her best to avoid Callie when she is working with Boswell. Callie takes it all in stride though. Arizona is giving little attention to the woman keeping it strictly professional and whatever she may be doing to get Erica or pretty much anyone else on staff to turn against Callie is not working in the slightest. Callie is sure that she will tire of her unsuccessful attempts to further ruin Callie's life and leave or at the very least turn her attention else where. She was wrong.
Erica taps her pen impatiently against the nurse's station as she waits for Dr. Boswell. She had her paged three times in the past fifteen minutes and had yet to appear. She may be a conniving bitch hell bent on destroying her best friend's life but she did her job and well. It was the only reason Erica was still working with her. She needed the best for this case and no matter how much it bothered her she was the best. Irritated Erica decides to go into their patient's room now and send Boswell in to explain her bit in the surgery when she decides to show up.
Callie receives a 911 page from the daycare and her heart starts to race at first but she also reasons that Sofia may have just as easily bumped her head or had a nasty spill on the playground to. She speed walks to the day care and gets there at the same time as an out of breath Arizona. Callie looks for their little girl but does not immediately see her and the panic begins to rise. When Sofia's classroom teacher comes up to them without Sofia in tow every worse case scenario runs through her mind and as the teacher speaks to her one of those scenarios is realized.
The class was playing outside in a fenced in area right outside the day care, one of the children fell while playing. The teacher went to go help him up and make sure there was no blood shed. When she saw that he was okay she scanned the class and noticed that Sofia was not where she last saw her. When she could not find her they put their missing child plan into action. The teacher begins to cry and the director of the day care takes over informing Callie and Arizona that everything is being done to make sure no time is wasted in finding Sofia. A uniformed cop comes in and Callie can barely hear him when he asks what Sofia was wearing. It is Arizona that steps forward and begins to describe what their little girl was wearing.
All areas near the daycare are on lock down barring emergencies. Erica receives a text message from Callie that Sofia has gone missing from the daycare. Erica is at a loss for words and stares at the message when she hears another page for Dr. Boswell go over the sound system and it occurs to Erica that Lauren Boswell is supposed to be in the hospital today but has yet to be seen. Sofia is missing and Lauren is attempting everything she can to ruin Callie's life and this would be like going for the jugular. Erica has to use every ounce of intimidation she has to get out of the cardio wing. She is forced to fight her way past hospital security and gets to the daycare thirty four minutes after Sofia was last seen. Callie is no where in sight but she runs into Arizona almost instantly.
"It's Lauren. She was supposed to be here today. I paged her multiple times about an hour and a half ago for a consult and she never showed. She is supposed to be in the hospital today but no one has seen her today." Arizona goes pale and informs one of the officers about the woman. She knew Lauren was desperate to have her but she did not think that she would go this far. The fact that her daughter was in danger because of a moment of misjudgment brings tears to her eyes and she begins to hyper ventilate. Erica helps her into a seat and tries to reassure her that this is not her fault but it is to no avail. Callie hears Arizona in distress and comes from the outside play area that Sofia was taken from.
"Hey baby we are going to find her okay? We are going to find our baby." Arizona attempts to tell Callie what Erica told her but words are hard to form. Erica is about to tell her when Arizona receives a text message and let's out a strangled sob. Erica calls over one of the nearby officers.
"Arizona what's wrong?" Callie asks a million things running through her mind that could make what is happening even worse. Arizona holds up her phone with a shaky hand to the people around her. It takes a few seconds for what they see on the screen to sink in and then all hell breaks loose.
Erica had really only interacted with Sofia in passing but she looks just like Callie and already she had a soft spot for the kid. She would smile and say hi to the little girl anytime she saw Sofia with either of her mothers. It did not take long for the little to get used to Erica's presence and eventually anytime the little girl would see Erica no matter how far away she was she could here a little voice yelling "Hi Rica!." It was often followed by laughter at the little girls enthusiasm.
Meredith is power walking towards the elevators when Erica comes off, Cristina close behind. The elevator doors close behind Erica as they walk up.
"Do you know what that lock down was about? I just got a call from the daycare telling me I had to come down immediately." Erica can see the panic in the other women's eyes at the uncertainty of her child's well being. It is similar to the look she saw in Callie and Arizona's eyes.
"Someone took Sofia from the day care and it might be Boswell." Both women's eyes widen and Meredith runs towards the stair case rather than wait for the elevator. Cristina is tempted to follow to assure that Zola is okay for herself but the fact that Sofia has been kidnapped stops her. Erica has started to walk to her office and Cristina follows.
"Where are they now?" Erica shrugs helplessly.
"Not long after I told them I thought it was Lauren, Arizona received something on her phone. She showed it to one of the officers and all hell broke loose." Both women are slightly startled out of their conversation when Cristina's pager goes off.
"You think you could keep me updated?" Cristina asks still a little unsure of how to interact with Erica. The blonde nods her head.
"With as much as I know." Cristina leaves and Erica falls into her desk chair and puts her head in her hands.
Callie and Arizona watch as a swat team enters their apartment building. Both women have been physically restrained from storming in on their own. Every minute feels like a life time, heart beats are racing as both women try to comprehend the fact that their child is yards away and in potential danger. Every second that a gun shot or scream does not ring out is both trying and a relief at the same time. Finally a swat team member exits the house a small child in his arms. Fear like no other goes through the two women until they hear Sofia cry. In this moment neither woman has been more relived to hear the cry of their child.
A/N-I would like to note now that I am not an expert on police protocol. The most I get is from the episodes of Rizzoli and Isles that I watch and we all know no one watches that show for the accuracy of the crime solving so, please forgive me now!
