Ogre on campus Chapter 3- This is Youkai Academy.
Running after Oga in the middle of the night wearing nothing more than a nightgown certainly hadn't been one of her best ideas, but it was oh so satisfying.
Having to drag Oga's unconscious body all the way back home? A lot less so.
Really, this whole situation was much more his fault than it was hers. She wasn't really going to kill him, he'd get a little maimed sure, but she wasn't actually going to outright kill him for waking her up in the middle of the night. She wasn't that cruel.
If he'd just stood there and taken it like a man then they could've gotten this whole thing over with a lot sooner. But he'd just had to make a run for it, hadn't he? He'd almost managed to lose her in the woods, but Hilda was an expert when it came to tracking.
... That and it was pretty obvious where they were once lightning started shooting up from out of nowhere.
Hilda found an unconscious electrified Oga, a crying young master, and a whole bunch of dead cicadas smoking on the forest floor and put two and two together.
Oga had probably just stumbled upon a cicada's nest, and suffice to say, the young master had reacted quite... shockingly.
Hilda paused. Did... did she just make a pun? Hilda felt her stomach churn. After this, she'd need some serious alone time to purge all the idiot out of her system.
She entered Oga's room, and wrinkled her nose. She had no idea how the man had managed to mess it up so fast. Everyday while Oga was at school, she'd clean up the house alongside Shouko-san, and Oga's room was always the messiest. Clothes and manga strewn across the floor, half-eaten burgers rotting in the corner, and-
Hilda narrowed her eyes. Since when had that been there? She tiptoed her way over the mess, and approached the bed where a single white letter was placed. Hilda laid Oga down in the bed before picking up the letter to read it. Her eyes widened almost immediately.
Youkai Academy
It was written across the paper in large, spiky looking font, but Hilda was far more concerned with what lied inside it than out. She ripped it open with one flick of the wrist, and took out a brown piece of parchment.
Dear Oga Tatsumi
News of your destruction of Ishiyama high has reached our ears, and you have formally been branded a threat to human society. Feel free to pop open a bottle of wine to celebrate... No? Still reading? Okay then. Youkai Academy would like to formally invite you to attend our prestigious school with free room and boarding. All your expenses will be paid for, and special arrangements have been made for your... situation. We hope to see you soon.
Sincerely, Headmaster of Youkai Academy.
Hilda pressed her lips into a thin line, and folded the letter. It looked like that alone time would come sooner than she thought.
You'd think Oga would be used to getting electrified by now and in some ways he was, but that still didn't change the fact that it hurt like a bitch.
He pushed himself up, and squinted as he got used to the morning light.
"Ugh," He groaned, "What happened?"
Hilda handed him a warm cup of tea, "I found you two near a cicada's nest, and assumed that the young master was quite shoc- disturbed"
Oga could've sworn Hilda turned a bit green for a moment there, but right now he had bigger things to worry about. He chugged the tea down in few short gulps before slamming the cup down on the floor.
"Beel!"
The green haired baby rubbed at one of his cloudy eyes, "Da?"
"You mind telling me what happened yesterday?"
Beel didn't meet his gaze
Oga pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed, "Look, it's not like I don't get it, alright? Cicada's can make you jump a bit when they just come out of nowhere like that, but you're a fucking demon lord!
Beel clenched his fist, an icy look in his eye, "Au"
Oga scowled, "Don't give me that. You think you could've won after a bit more, you little brat? The bug won this round fair and square"
Beel's face fell.
"But that doesn't mean we're gonna let those bastards get away with it, are we?"
Beel tilted his head, "Da?"
Oga smiled in a way that would give the boogeyman nightmares, "It's special training time"
Hilda looked concerned, "Wait Oga, I have to tell you some-"
Before she could let out another word, Oga fastened Beel under his arms and jumped out of the window once more, landing with a thud on the streets. Hilda's eye twitched, and she felt her hand drawing closer to her sword before she stopped it. Hilda let her face fall into her palm, and let the two go.
She watched their backs slowly retreat farther and farther away. She'd let them have their fun for now.
While they still could.
Kunieda wondered what normal high school girls did on their days off. They would probably go shopping or watching movies.
Kunieda blushed... Maybe even go on a few dates?
"Aoi!" Her grandfather yelled, "Hurry up, let's go. We're burning daylight!"
And here she was going to temples with her grandfather. How fun.
Kunieda sighed, pushing her glasses up, "Coming!"
Her grandfather gave a stiff nod before leaving her behind.
Takagamine Mapputatsu used to be a training ground that no man dared to approach, a bastion of the martial arts.
"What is that supposed to be?"
"It's ice cream" Kunieda replied.
Her grandfather scoffed, "It's a disgrace is what it is. Why back when I was a boy, we didn't all these frivolities like TV, WiFi, or 'iced cream' We'd-"
Kunieda zoned out. Whenever her grandfather started reminiscing 'bout the good ol' days, her mind just started to drift off. Although nowadays, it mostly drifted off to... him.
His intense eyes, his husky voice. His looks weren't too bad either, she'd remembered seeing him with his shirt torn during the fight against Toujou, and it was certainly... something.
Kunieda lightly slapped herself on the cheek, making it even redder. She should not be having these thoughts, she didn't even know if she'd be seeing him again. With Ishiyama being rebuilt, they might have to go to different schools, and honestly, what were the chances of them just randomly meeting again?
It's not like he would just fall from the sky, right?
"And salads! Don't even get me started about salads! That's the food that my food eats!" Kunieda Ittousai whirled around, "Are you even listening, Aoi?"
Apparently she was not because she was gone. Ittousai ran a hand through his long silver hair, and let out a breath, "Where's that girl gone, now?"
"Oh, let the child have her fun. Lord knows how seldom she has it with you as her grandfather"
Ittousai watched a man dressed in white robes, and a cross around his neck step out of the shadows. His hood draped darkness over his features, but Ittousai could recognize that voice anywhere.
"Long time no see, Mikogami" He said.
Mikogami smiled, and strangely enough this made him seem even more disturbing, "Same to you, old man"
Ittousai scoffed, "That's like the pot calling the kettle black"
Mikogami chuckled softly, "Still as funny as ever I see"
"I'm assuming you didn't come here to reminisce about the good ol' days, so tell me," he said, narrowing his his eyes, "Why are you here?"
"Can't an old friend just drop by for a chat every now and then?"
Ittousai's raised eyebrow did not agree with that statement.
"No?" Mikogami said, "Well then, let's get down to business"
Ittousai pressed his lips into a thin line, "What's this about?"
"I assume you've heard about the newest addition to the Beelzebub family, correct?"
"Bits and pieces," Ittousai said, "I don't see why it's any of my concern though"
"Oh, trust me, you of all people should be concerned"
"Why?"
Mikogami grinned, "Because the Demon Lord has ordered him to destroy the human race"
Ittousai did not seem to be fazed, "I ask again, why?"
"I just told you"
Ittousai did not look impressed, "Do you remember the time that the Demon Lord once ordered all legos to be destroyed after he stepped on one"
"... That was one time"
"And what about the time he ordered all icebergs to be melted down after he watched Titanic?"
"Well, that was-"
"And the time he demanded Freddie Mercury write a song for him"
"... I didn't even know about that"
Ittousai snorted, "The point is that the Demon Lord has the attention span of a goldfish"
"Perhaps, but if so then he is a goldfish with the power of a nuclear bomb"
Ittousai waved it off and turned around to walk away, "Please, Lady Iris would stop him before he did anything too drastic"
"Lady Iris has gone missing"
Ittousai froze and slowly turned around, "What happened to her?"
"I don't know"
"How did you... come by this information?" Ittousai asked.
"Tell me, have you heard of a group called the Solomon company?
Ittousai shook his head, "No"
"Well, neither had I until Lady Iris had joined their ranks"
Mikogami looked him in the eye and for once, Ittousai didn't see any of the man's confident bravado and arrogance. Mikogami Tenmei was the spymaster of the dark lords, he'd handled all the information and strategized accordingly. Akasha might've won the battle, but it was Mikogami who had won the war.
But it seemed that the war was not quite over yet.
"What does this mean?" Ittousai asked.
"I have no idea," he replied, "The only thing I know is that if what I've heard is true then it will not only be the humans who will fear for their lives, but all of us. Demons and monsters included"
Ittousai stayed silent for a long time as he mulled this... new information over. If Lady Iris truly had joined another group then the Seven Deadly Sins were no longer safe in the demon world, and if some of the news he'd heard about a new group of monsters forming called the fairies or something like that(Rather dumb name if you asked him) was true then...
"So what's your plan?" Ittousai asked.
"What makes you think I have a plan?"
Ittousai gave him a dry look, "The Strategist of the Dark Lords doesn't have a plan?"
Mikogami chuckled, "I never could pull one over you, old friend"
A rare smile spread itself across Ittousai's face.
"As you may recall, I'm running a school for monsters to blend into human society," Mikogami said, "And lately, I've been wondering about... diversifying our student body"
Ittousai furrowed his brows, "What do you mean?"
"There are a few gifted youngsters that I've had my eye on lately in the human world, and I think they'll be perfect for my school.
Ittousai had a feeling that he knew exactly which gifted youngsters Mikogami wanted, but he asked nevertheless, "Youngsters like who?"
"You of all people should know, old friend. After all," Mikogami smiled thinly,
"You're granddaughter's one of them"
Kunieda sneezed.
"You alright?" Oga asked, "Want me to get you a tissue or something?"
"No-no, I'm alright," she said, but she was pretty sure that her heart was beating far too fast to be safe.
"You're looking pretty red too, you sure you alright?"
"I-I'm fine!"
But she wouldn't be if he kept looking at her like that. Oga was usually so callous at school, to have him care about her all of a sudden like this felt... nice.
Oga did not look convinced, "Here, just let me take your temperature"
"N-No, r-realy, I'm-"
Kunieda lost the ability to form words with her mouth as Oga pressed his forehead against hers. Kunieda felt her cheeks grow warmer, and if her heart had been beating fast before then right now it was close to exploding.
"Hmm," Oga said, "You're definitely a bit warm. I think you should go to the doctor"
Kunieda didn't want to go to the doctor. She just wanted to stay here forever.
"Woah! You're really hot right now!"
That was true in more ways than one. Kunieda knew that Oga didn't mean it that way, but that didn't matter. She'd take anything by this point.
And that included his lips.
Her breaths were shallower and warmer as she slowly built up the courage to do it. Their faces were so close that if she just leaned in a little closer then- then-
"Aoi! What are you doing?"
Oga drew his head back, and pointed behind her, "I think that old guy over there knows you"
"H-How about you finish checking my temperature first?"
"He looks kind of mad"
"Oh, believe me," She heard her grandfather's stern voice from behind her, "He is"
Kunieda turned around, all color now drained from her face, "Hey, Grandpa"
Kunieda Ittousai was not the nicest of men, but right now he looked absolutely livid, "Would you mind introducing me to your... friend, Aoi?"
Her grandfather said friend much like how some would say "Kitten Killer" or, "Dragon Ball:Evolution"
Ittousai turned his glare onto Oga, "Or perhaps you two are... more than that?"
"Nope, just friends," Oga said, "Ain't that right uh... Aoi, right?"
Kunieda couldn't believe what had just happened. Had-Had she just been friendzoned?!
"Aoi," Her grandfather said, "Is what this young man saying true?"
"Y-yes," Aoi gritted out through clenched teeth, "Just... friends"
She said this much like her grandfather would.
"Stop being such a downer, Ittou. Let the young lovers be"
Kunieda reddened. A strange looking man in a long white habit and a hood over his head approached them. He sauntered towards her, and smiled... if one could call it that.
Her grandfather looked less than pleased with his presence, "I didn't think you were coming along"
"And miss all the fun?" He said, patting her grandfather on the shoulder, "By the way, is it just me or is the parcel you put over there missing?"
"What!?" Ittousai yelled, "Dammit, I'll be right back, Aoi"
Kunieda sighed in relief. At least, he couldn't embarrass her anymore
"Don't kiss any more boys while I'm gone!"
... Why did the world hate her?
The man chuckled taking a seat beside her, "He's still as energetic as ever, isn't he?"
Kunieda gave him a strange look, "Are you a friend of my grandfather, Mister..."
"Mikogami," He said, "Mikogami Tenmei, and yes, your grandfather and I have known each other for quite a while now"
Huh. Kunieda had never met her grandfather's friends before, and if they were all as... eccentric as this man, she wasn't sure if she wanted to.
"So you must be his granddaughter then?" Mikogami-san chuckled, "I can only imagine what that must be like"
"He can be a little..." Stubborn? Nosy? Insensitive? A total moodkiller?, "much at times, but he's family"
"I see," His eyes drifted to Oga and Beel, "And you are?"
"I'm Oga. Oga Tatsumi"
Mikogami-san shook his hand, "It's nice to meet you, Oga-san"
Kunieda could've sworn she saw Mikogami-san's eyes twinkle for a moment there.
"Well, I better get going then," he said, standing up, "I wouldn't want to ruin your date with your boyfriend after all"
"Oh, i-it's not-, w-we're not-" Kunieda spluttered, blushing.
"We're not on a date," Oga said, "We're just friends"
Kunieda knew this was true, of course, but to hear him say it so plainly really hurt. She'd have rather fought ten Toujous than hear that again.
"You two seem so close though. You must've known each other for quite some time now, right?"
"Oh, no. This is actually only the second time we've met" Oga said, "I don't even know her full name"
"Oh, well it's-"
Before Mikogami-san could reveal it, Kunieda intervened, "It's Aoi Kunie"
"Really?" The two said in unison.
Mikogami-san frowned, "I could've sworn it was-"
"Nope, it's always been Aoi Kunie"
His eyes seemed to examined her for a second, almost like he could see what was in her head. Kunieda was worried he would reveal her lie when he smiled all of a sudden and said, "My mistake then"
"Aoi Kunie. Aoi Kunie." Oga said, testing the word out on his tongue, "You know, I know someone with a name a lot like yours"
Kunieda gulped, "R-Really now?"
"Yeah, in fact, "Oga narrowed his eyes, "You two look a lot alike too, you sure you're not related? Her name's Kunieda Aoi, and she goes to Ishiyama. Or used to anyway before I... saw the building get blown up"
Kunieda's hands felt clammy as she pressed them together, "Nope, I don't think I've ever met her"
"Huh," Oga said, "I guess some people really do just look alike for no reason. I wonder if I have a look-a-like somewhere"
"Were you a student of Ishiyama, Oga-san?" Mikogami-san asked.
"Yeah, I'm- I mean, was a first-year there"
"So, I suppose that means you don't have a school to go to right now, correct?"
Oga nodded.
"Splendid!" Mikogami-san said, clapping his white-gloved hands together, "Would you like to come to my school then? You'd be perfect for it"
Oga raised an eyebrow, "You want... me to come to your school?"
He nodded, "Yes, what's the problem?"
"Well, my record's not exactly the best so..."
"Oh, don't worry about that," Mikogami-san said, "Our entrance exam is very easy"
"Okay then. What do I have to do?"
"That's simple," Mikogami-san said before a cruel smirk graced his lips, "Fight me"
"What?"
"Didn't you hear? I said, 'Fight me' "
"Oh, I heard," Oga said, "I'm just not sure if you know what you're getting into"
"Oh, don't worry about me" He said before disappearing into thin-air. Oga looked around, muscles tensed, the sound of wind whistling in his ears until he heard his opponent's voice from behind, "It's you who you should be worrying about"
Oga felt an aching pain on the back of his head. He opened his eyes, squinting at the moonlight. That was strange, it had only been mid-afternoon when-
That's when it came back to him. Training Beel, meeting Kunie again, that- that-
"That fucking bastard!"
The wooden door slid open, and Aoi stepped inside the room, "Oga, you're awake!"
She hadn't changed out of her clothes yet, and still looked the same as before except she wasn't wearing her hat anymore. Oga shook his head. It was weird, but he still couldn't get the image of Kunieda out of his head whenever Aoi was looked so alike that they could be twins for fuck's sake. Oga noticed a bandage wrapped around her left hand.
"What happened to your hand?" Oga asked.
"Oh, this?" Aoi said, raising it up, "I cut myself making dinner. No big deal"
Aoi didn't look at him directly. Was there something on his face? He rubbed at the corner of his mouth and felt something flake off. He looked at his wrist, and saw bits of dried blood littered across it. He scowled.
"Alright," Oga pushed himself up, feeling the familiar weight of Beel on his back, "Now, where is that fucker?"
"Who?"
Oga jolted up, "That Mikogami guy! Where is he? Where did he go?"
Aoi put her hands on his shoulders, "Oga, calm down. He's already left"
"Left where?"
I don't know, all he did was give me this not-"
Oga snatched it out of her hands before she could finish talking. It was written with a fountain pen, and already sealed with wax. Oga grit his teeth, the fucker had come prepared.
If you want to get stronger then come to Youkai Academy. Hilda knows all about it.
As his eyes drifted to the bottom, he crumpled the piece of paper, and threw it into the pond.
"What did it say?" Aoi asked.
"Enough," Oga said, "I'll see you again some other time"
Oga pulled on his shoes and left through the backyard.
"Where are you going?" Aoi asked
Oga turned back for just a second and looked at her
"Youkai Academy"
Those two words were all he said before he jumped the fence and took off into the woods surrounding their house. Aoi approached the pond, and crouched down to see what the note read
I'll be waiting
It scrawled across the paper in a bold, bloody red, almost like it was a threat. Exactly the sort of thing, Oga couldn't resist. Kunieda sighed.
Whoever Tenmei-san was, he sure knew how to push Oga's buttons. And hers, she thought to herself as her other hand drifted to her bandaged one.
Kunieda watched, eyes wide with shock as Oga was sent sprawling to the ground. For one moment she was shocked speechless.
For only one moment. Before most people could even blink, she was rushing towards him with her arm pulled back, "Shingetsu:Nadeshiko!"
She struck him with her palm completely flat, and you could hear the bones breaking, but unfortunately they weren't hers.
"Aagh!" Kunieda cried out, clutching her hand. She slid back, out of her opponent's reach, and got into her fighting stance. Knees bent ready to pounce, and one arm positioned to defend while her injured one was kept protected.
Her form may have been feminine, but anyone who saw her would swear she had the spirit of the samurai.
Tenmei-san turned towards her, noticing her like how someone might notice a small ant crawling up their skin. A nuisance.
"Are you alright?" He asked.
Kunieda narrowed her eyes, "Is this some sort of trick?"
He blinked, "No, I'm just legitimately concerned about your safety. I am a teacher, you know"
"Like hell you are," Kunieda scoffed, "What kind of teacher goes around fighting students?"
He shrugged, "I admit my methods are... unconventional, but extraordinary students require extraordinary teaching"
"And knocking him out is teaching him what exactly?"
He smirked at her, "That there's always someone better"
Kunieda's body suddenly felt heavy like it was being weighed down by something. He strolled towards her, robes flowing, and Kunieda readied her attack. She lunged for his head, only to find him casually bob his head just an inch under and keep walking. He was suddenly right beside her.
"Read the note" he whispered in her ear, "But in your case, I think it would be better to ask your grandfather"
Kunieda whirled around, her good arm at the ready, but just like that it was gone. She wondered what he could mean by note when she felt something in her hand that hadn't been there before.
A note.
Her grandfather had come back soon after, and if she hadn't explained that she had been the one to attack Tenmei-san then her grandfather might've committed murder judging from the look in his eye.
After much begging and pleading, he'd begrudgingly agreed to let Oga stay in the house until he was awake, and even carried him there. Aoi plucked the note out of the water, and opened it again. Even though it was soggy and dripping wet, the lines were still legible.
She scanned the page for a moment before taking a deep breath. She balled it up and threw it into the air before slicing it in half mid-air with her good hand.
Kunieda turned back, a look of grim determination etched onto her face. A message like that couldn't be ignored.
It looked like Oga wasn't the only one going to Youkai Academy.
Oga ran through the forest, his shoes pounding against the forest floor. He felt the wind rushing against his face as he worked off his frustrations. Oga didn't stop running until he couldn't breath anymore, and then some. He panted on his knees, digging his fingernails into the dirt.
If that bastard wanted to play then he would play. But when you play games with Oga Tatsumi, you either win or you die.
Oga looked up with a newfound determination and realised something.
"Shit, I should've asked for directions"
AN:Haah, Oga, always choosing style over sense. When will you ever learn? I actually planned for Kunieda to make an appearance all the way forward in season 2, but I just love her too much so I switched the story around and put her here instead. She's not coming with Oga automatically,of course, there's gonna be a few gap weeks between their arrivals because her grandfather's gonna train her up first, but it's gonna be cool when she arrives.
I threw a few moments in there for those Kunieda fans like me out there, but if you're a Hilda sort of guy(or girl I don't judge) then you might have to wait a bit. One of the things Beelzebub always did surprisingly well was romance. It always hit a good balance between their relationships, and kept me rooting on for them.
A few tricky POV changes in this chapter, but trying to pull off a manga sort of style through words alone is hard, alright? Anyways, I have a question, do you guys want to see Kunieda Aoi or Aoi Kunie at Youkai Academy? I already picked which persona is going to be in there, but I'm always open to suggestions if they're good enough.
Anyways, that's enough from me for now. If you liked the chapter then review, favourite and follow-Aleandros137
