Betrayal

XXX

The time is around 1:30 a.m. Assistant Director of Operations William Dennis stands in an empty waiting room of the C.I.A. medical facility while his assistant is standing guarding outside making sure nobody is in the vicinity who is able to hear what is presently being spoken about. As he stands vigilant, Dennis paces back and forth as he speaks to the individual on the other end of the line. In his mind, he knows the plan that has been concocted will hopefully come to fruition in the end IF and only if everyone plays their roles perfectly.

"Once they see Hansen, you and Gamble on the surveillance footage then it's only a matter of time before it all back tracks to me." he firmly whispered into the phone.

"Relax boss. Colonel Casey thinks highly of his trainees…" stated Bishop. "…but I think its all hype. They don't have what it takes to bring the fight. Plain and simple, they're kids merely in a grown up fight."

Dennis has seen and done many things in his illustrious 40 career. True, 15 of those early years were spent as a wet behind the ears rookie government agent who slowly turned himself into a highly skilled veteran parleying various contacts, as well as small favors around the world. Plus, he didn't get to where he is now without holding on to a few secrets here and there in order to save for the proverbial rainy day just in case. Secrets are part of the game. It's what keeps our business alive and thriving.

"I can't relax Bishop." he whispered loudly stopping in mid stride. The controlled outburst causes Dennis' assistant to turn around to which his boss makes brief eye contact with him. Afterwards, he turns around with his back to him continuing on with the conversation. "Ever since this plan was thought up and then put into action I can't help but think it will all fall apart. My job is on the line if this doesn't turn out the way it should."

"It won't. Rest assured you'll have job security."

It's at that point, Dennis reaches up with his left hand in order to rub the back of his neck. He can feel the stress knotting up not only on the back of it, but areas of his body like his lower back. Of course, he's experienced stress before as a trainee, government agent, and most definitely running operations within The Farm. In addition to that, he has to deal with the bureaucracy and politics in a somewhat smaller scale reporting to Langley on the status of the entire operation. It's a necessary evil knowing full well that it's all for the greater good. In that instance, he shakes his head giving his response to Bishop.

"Don't sound so smug. Colonel Casey believes his trainees will be able to pull it off."

There is a brief silence on the other end of the line. It's a seemingly haunting silence that lasts forever but doesn't. "What do you believe?"

"It's too early to tell right now…" he answered. "…but my gut says they'll somehow pull it off." ordered the Assistant Director of Ops. "Are you taking the necessary precautions?" wondered Dennis with curiosity.

"Burner phones are in use. I instructed my men to turn off their cell phones. It will be impossible to track and find us for that matter."

"Don't underestimate them Bishop. They have THE best team working with them. Granted, their methods are considerably unorthodox but as you know they've gotten the job done time and time again." he explained to the main responsible for failing Team 3's efforts in The Kill House.

"We shall see. My team knows the stakes. It's the total opposite of what we should be doing but we'll abide by them."

"Excellent. Prepare yourselves because it's the calm before the storm."

"We always are."

It's those three words that don't necessarily give Dennis any comfort whatsoever. As much as he's gone over the plan in his mind and beforehand when it was formulated in the beginning it seemed outlandish at first. However, the more he thought about it he found himself easing up a bit on the idea knowing it could quite possibly work in his favor. Granted, it ultimately came down to a mutual understanding that was agreed upon by all parties involved. There's no turning back now he thinks to himself.

"Cockiness is unbecoming Bishop." firmly stated Dennis. A look of absolute seriousness expressed on his face.

"It's why you hired me boss."

As much as the assistant director wants to smile and be amused by that particular comment, he restrains himself from doing so because of the serious of the situation. Instead, he continues on.

"Pretty soon, they will know who took Mrs. Bartowski."

"I know..." There is a momentary pause on Bishop's part then he continues. "…but I have my reservations on what happens next." he added expressing a mixture of reserved apprehention.

"You do what you're ordered to do. Got me?" he emphatically stated. To him, as long as Bishop, Gamble, and the rest of his team do what they're told then Team 3 along with Casey and a newly reinstated C.I.A. Agent Chuck Bartowski will be none the wiser. Yet, if his suspicions are correct and they have the determination to see this thing through then he'll deal with them accordingly. Thankfully, now isn't the time but it's all a matter of the timetable that has been laid out since the beginning. The question is will he be proven wrong or right? He shakes that particular thought out of his head and continues on. "Lay low and keep out of sight for the time being. Tell your men." he added with urgency.

"Yes sir."

"Do what you do best."

"And that is?" inquired Bishop.

"Be ghosts." he retorted lowering his phone and hanging up. Afterwards, he places his phone in the right front pocket of his slacks then walks off but not before taking a deep breath.

Team 3 and 2 members of a now reunited Team Chuck rush over to the tech era of The Farm, which seems like miles away from the medical facility. For them, it took approximately 10 minutes or so to get there but if it wasn't a matter of importance it would have taken at least about 20 minutes. In any case, all 6 individuals gather in front of a nerd/geeks dream of countless monitors and computers before them.

At the helm manning the massive system are two male technicians…one skinny and the other somewhat larger. In any case, both are ready to cue of the footage they've been able to acquire by means of hacking into the HUB control systems of the Traffic Control Systems. To be more specific, the surveillance system located in the area West Branch Drive.

"We're ready Colonel." stated tech guy #1.

"There's visual…" tech guy #2 chimed in pointing up at the screen. "…but no sound." he added looking at the monitor in front of him.

"It's a bit grainy but I'll clear it up the best I can." tech guy #1 chimed in once again.

"Run it." grunted Casey standing there with arms crossed. His eyes locked on the large screens before him somewhat above him.

He's not the only one as Chuck along with the rest of Team 3 are eagerly and not to mention anxiously awaiting what the surveillance footage will reveal. It's at this point, the eager, anxious anticipation inevitably turns to absolute uncertainty as the footage being shown begins rolling. The room they're standing in suddenly falls silent to the point where a pin could most definitely be dropped and it could clearly be heard. After a few second of watching, they see an aforementioned scene unfolding before their very eyes.

A look of absolute concern is expressed on Chuck's eyes as he steps forward watching intently as four dark colored vans box in and stop his rented S.U.V. It's at this point, he along with the rest of those standing along-side with him witness the unthinkable. Unfortunately, even they are unable to see Sarah being taken due to the van obscuring the view they have visual proof on how it happened. Essentially, it's a sight to behold for each one of them taking Chuck and the 4 members of Team 3 by complete surprise. As for Casey, he remains stoic as can be. In that instance, a female voice breaks everyone's concentration.

"Why is Hansen just standing there?" wondered Moore throwing both hands up at the screen.

"He's not stopping them. He's just standing there and letting them take Mrs. Bartowski." stated Clayton shaking his head in absolute disbelief.

For Moxley, he stands there watching the same footage they all are. As much as he doesn't want to believe it a man that he has considered a trusted friend and teammate has betrayed them. To him, it's a considerably numbing feeling that can't be quite explained but one thing is for sure is that he's been stabbed in the back by someone he would call a brother from another mother. True, they've been through hell and back during their training but that's been thrown out the window by his unscrupulous actions.

"I can't believe it."

"Believe it Mox" The team leader turns to face the man who said it…Balor. "One of our own betrayed us."

"The assault was merely a ruse to throw us off." chimed in Chuck. He forces himself to tear away his attention from the large monitor and looks directly at Casey.

The burly NSA Agent doesn't waste any time and barks out an order. "Bring up screen #1."

"Yes sir." quickly answered the skinny half of the tech duo.

"Isolate those 2 dark shadowy individuals standing in front of Hansen and lighten it up. I want to see who those two are…" ordered the military vet. "…like yesterday." Casey firmly stated with urgency.

"I'm on it Colonel." the larger tech guy quickly announced.

While the 2 techs work their magic isolating and bringing up a clearer image of the two individuals on the monitors, Moxley suddenly leans over to Moore and whispers in her ear. "This reminds of something."

"If you say a movie, I swear I'll knee you in the nuts right now Mox." she lashed back in a quiet whisper. "Now isn't the time." she insisted.

Moxley is silent but then continues on. "U.S. Marshals…" retorted Mox making sure to protect his family jewels. "…the scene in the parking garage where Tommy Lee Jones' character Gerard finds out that Wesley Snipe's character Mark Sheridan was set up by Special Agent John Royce played by Robert Downey Jr."

"Shut up!" she whispered elbowing him in the side.

"The gloves proved it." he quickly added.

Moore is about to say something again when Casey spins around and snaps at them. "Hey! Quit your yapping and focus on something far more important!" angrily barked the proud marine.

"Yes sir!" they both responded in unison.

The reactions of those standing in that area are mixed with the 2 tech guys keeping their heads straight forward doing their best to avoid looking back. If they do, they may very well get their heads ripped off by a big, burly, and definitely scary of a hulking man standing behind them. As for Clayton, he shakes his head knowing how his 2 fellow teammates can at times be distracted by each other. For Balor, all he does is express a smirk and as for Chuck, he rolls with the punches knowing full well he's been in their situation before in the past with Sarah. As much as he wants to smile reflecting back on those particular moments, he focuses back on the matter at hand.

"How much longer." growled the agitated Colonel.

"Approximately 2 minutes sir."

Upon hearing that Chuck knows his burly teammate is somewhat impatient man. Patience is not considered to be his strong suit knowing how 2 minutes can most definitely feel like a lifetime. It's a sentiment that he keenly notices as he turns to look at the 4 career trainees who are biting at the bit concerning being able to get a clear visual of the two men responsible for his wife's abduction. A slight smirk is expressed telling him that each one of them are fully locked in despite the restrictions placed on them by the Assistant Director of Operations.

The news of the approximate wait time didn't sit well with Casey, which is witnessed by everyone due to his body language. For each one of them, the next 2 minutes would most definitely be the longest of their entire lives. While they're standing there waiting in the tech area, the doctor approaches the nurses station of the medical facility with his suit coat draped over his left arm.

"Going home doctor?" smiled the blonde nurse in blue scrubs sitting behind the desk.

"Finally. It sure has been an eventful day hasn't it." he said signing off on a few charts before he leaves.

"Have a good night." she waved politely standing up retrieving the charts from him.

"You too." he replied retrieving his keys from his right front pocket. He's about to leave when he suddenly stops. "You know what, I'll check on Mr. Hansen one more time before I leave." he said out loud to himself.

The good doctor turns around passing the nurses station once again causing the nurse assigned to it to briefly look up. Thinking nothing of it, she returns to reading her magazine. After a somewhat long walk down the hall, he makes it to Hansen's room inevitably opening the door and stepping inside. Once inside the semi lit room, he once again checks in on him and the heart monitor machine he's hooked up to. As he is does this, he hears a stirring sound causing him to turn to his left and peer down. That sound is Hansen who slowly opens his eyes.

"Where am I?" he faintly mumbled.

"C.I.A. medical facility son. It seems you got more than you bargained for." answered the doctor. He gently places his left hand on Hansen's shoulder in a comforting way. "You're alive." he softly grinned down at the young man. "Sleep well?"

"Okay, I guess." he replied considerably groggy. He lays there looking around and getting his bearings straight.

"Look at my finger and follow it." he requested holding up his right index finger. The doctor then moves slowly from side to side in order to test his visual motor skills. After a few seconds of testing him, he gives his assessment to his most fortunate patient. "Good news. You're vision and motor skills haven't been impaired."

"Great." he responded back.

The doctor sits on the side of the bid taking out a miniature flashlight in order to check his injured patient's pupils. Upon shining the light into his eyes, he witnesses Hansen instinctively shut them due to how bright it is, which happens to everyone if they've been in the dark for quite some time. It's at this point, the career trainee attempts to sit up leading the man with the medical degree to take action.

"I wouldn't advise that son." he stated with utmost concern in his voice. His patient begrudgingly complies with the doctor's orders who remedies rest and relaxation rather than putting more strain on his already battered body. While sitting there on the side of the bed, he continues. "Do you remember what happened?"

"I do..." He pauses for moment attempting to sit up once again leading the doctor to object but it's all for naught. Hansen's willful determination forces himself to fight through the pain as he sits up. After taking a moment or to sit back in an upright position and having some relief from the pain he takes a deep breath then continues on. "…and I'm sorry what is about to happen next." he said suddenly reaching out placing his right hand on the doctor's shoulder.

"That's the clearest image we can give you Colonel." stated the skinny tech guy pointing up at the screen.

"It will have to do." responded Casey narrowing his eyes up at the screen. "Bartowski, recognize those two."

"I do big guy." The former nerd herd leader turns looking over his right shoulder towards Team 3. "How about you 4?"

"I can't forget that ugly mug." firmly nodded Moxley. "The asshole from the Kill House Ray Bishop and I'm betting the other half of dumb and dumber is his sidekick."

"Ray Gamble." chimed in Chuck. "We now know the players in all this." he added shaking his head pointing at the screen.

In that instance, Moore makes her presence known. "Someone has got to be pulling their strings. Hansen wouldn't have done what he did if he was forced to do it. Plus, Bishop and Gamble are type of guys who take orders not make them."

"Face it Moore…" Balor not only gets the lone female of Team 3's attention but everyone standing around as well. "…all 3 of you. Hansen was bought. Money talks. He played all of us from the word go. You all thought you knew him, but he turned out to be a liar and a backstabber. That's why I keep my distance because of shit like this. It works best that way." He emphatically stated pointing up at the screen. "You can only trust yourself."

"You're wrong." Clayton chimed in shaking his head. "Each of us brings something to the table Balor. We were brought together for a reason. Just because Hansen betrayed us doesn't mean it will happen again. Anyone of us won't ever do that." he added briefly pointing to the screen then to Balor to his remaining fellow teammates.

"Keep thinking that." scoffed the ambitious career trainee.

"I agree with Clayton." Moore nodded.

"So do I." Mox chimed.

"Of course you do." he stated shaking his head.

"What does that supposed to mean?" the team leader questioned quirking his right brow.

As the discussion continues on between the 4 career trainees, Chuck and Casey stand there in utter disbelief at what is going in before them. In both their minds and not just moments ago, they were all in agreement in mutually taking down someone or a group of individuals responsible for the abduction of Sarah Walker. Now, they're at each other's throats concerning trust issues of the team. Casey is about to intercede when Chuck stops him from doing so by placing his left arm in front of him.

"Wait." he whispered with a nod towards his burly teammate. "Let them work it out. It's been a long time coming."

Casey begrudgingly complies inevitably stepping back and stands there watching the apparent meltdown of Team 3. Speaking of Team 3, the continue arguing amongst each other until Moxley steps forward silencing everyone by a loud whistle. It works much to his surprise leading him to take a momentary breath then speaks up.

"Listen…" he said eyeing his teammates. "…we may not all agree or share the same opinions but we all ended up right here. We're the cream of the crop. We're all that's left of the remaining trainees who outlasted a total of 30 that started." Moxley notices Clayton is about to say something but cuts off him. "I know there are a few more trainees other than us who have lasted…" In that instance, he waves his off attempting to get back on track. "…you get the point." The team leader pauses in order to gather his thoughts then continues on. "What I'm saying is…" He averts his attention solely on Balor. "…whether you like it or not we're going to have your back. Yeah, you may end up being the next NOC because you've proven to be a stellar specimen. Top notch physically but mentally…" He raises his right hand and shakes it a bit. "…eh." He quickly raises both hands in front of him. "Kidding." he grinned in amusement. "Seriously, you got it all but if you have only that then what you truly got is nothing. You have the greatest potential amongst all 3 of us dude."

It's at that point Moore chimes in. "One day down the road, you're going to be in a bind involving a mission that you can't find yourself getting out of."

"That's when you contact the people you trust the most…" Clayton interjected. "…us." he added reaching up to adjust his glassed. "As much as you want to get rid of us or push us away Balor, you can't. We're sticking around no matter what."

"We're like a bad itch you can't scratch." Moxley amusingly stated.

"Is that a threat?" questioned Balor shaking his head in absolute disbelief. He briefly looks around at his fellow teammates then averts his attention to Chuck and Casey. Balor returns his attention back to the remaining members of Team 3.

"Nope." answered Moore. "It's a promise." she softly stated expressing a smile.

"This calls for a group hug." Mox announced holding out his arms.

Casey's protégé takes a step back. "No!" quickly proclaimed Balor holding a finger. "That's where I draw the line. I will shoot you…" Balor turns his attention to Moxley. "…especially you." he added pointing directly at the team leader with a slight grin.

"I'm growing on you aren't I?"

"Yeah..." retorted Balor. "…like a fungus."

The 4 remaining career trainees would ultimately come to an understanding much to the delight of not only Chuck, but Casey as well. Speak of NSA Agent, he steps forwards making his presence known. "Now we got those lady feelings out of the way, let's get back to business shall we."

"So what's the next step?" wondered Moore.

"We talk to Hansen…" chimed in Chuck stepping forward. "…if he's awake. Find out what he knows and where my wife is."

"I'll call the doctor." Casey said retrieving his phone. "See if we can go see him right now."

After taking a moment to scroll through his contacts, he finds the number and dials it. He stands there waiting for the other end of the line to pick up along with the rest of the individuals standing before him. After what seems like forever, Clayton speaks up.

"Maybe he went home for the night." He peers down at his watch. "It is after all 2 in the morning."

"Yeah, the doc is taking care of business and working overtime." he said singing the oh so familiar lyrics by Bachman Turner Overdrive. He adds a stupid dance along with it as well. "Logging in those hours, especially with Balor over here." He sings once again nodding over to his quasi Ivan Drago look alike teammate.

As much as Balor wants to hit Moxley knowing how much time he's spent in the infirmary during his time at The Farm, he just shakes his head knowing this guy will forever be in his life no matter how much he doesn't want him to be. For him it's a nightmare scenario of epic proportions he thinks to himself. His thoughts concerning being eternally connected with the 3 individuals that started of strangers in the beginnings is suddenly broken by the sound of his hulking mentor's voice.

"Hey doc..." Casey suddenly stops talking and listens to the sound of a loud frantic person on the other end of the line. "…wait…what…calm down. What did you say!?"

It's at that point, a look of concern is expressed on Casey's face clearly witnessed not only by Chuck, but by the 4 career trainees as well. This leads to the burly NSA Agent sprinting towards the door but not before Chuck asks what's going on.

"Casey! What is it!?" he shouted over to his teammate.

The NSA Agent stops and turns looking over his left shoulder. "A nurse found the doctor in Hansen's room. Dead. Hansen nowhere in sight. Let's go! He's in the wind!"

Chuck doesn't waste any time as he follows suit along with Team 3 minus Balor who just stands there in utter shock. The announcement of the doctor's sudden death takes him by complete surprise as it was just not too long ago that he was speaking with him. In any case, it takes Moxley shouting at him to snap him out of it.

"Balor are you coming!?"

"Yeah!" he answered running towards his teammate. Balor catches up with Moxley leading the two men to quickly make their way to the medical facility as fast as they can following suit right behind Clayton, Moore, Casey, and Chuck.
