***Arabella's POV***
Our troops were patiently waiting, the archers and eagles on the cliff side with Edmund leading them and the fawn, Centaurs and animals down below lead by Peter. I was sat on my stallion on Peter's right hand side, Oreius on his left. We waited as we saw an our Griffin scout reappear in the distance and make its way towards us. I watched the horizon as I felt Arthur shift slightly.
"Nervous?" I asked him
"Eager" he corrected
"Eager to kill?" I was surprised at my stallions answer
"Eager to re claim my home" he corrected once more
"As am I Arthur" I agreed with my stallion on that point
I drew my eyes back on the Griffin was flew closer and cross the vast fields that was soon to become a war ground. The Griffin swooped down circled around our troops to the cliff side calling to his fellow Griffin's before turning round and flying down to us, landing beside me.
"They come your highness" he panted "In numbers and weapons far greater than our own"
"Numbers do not win a battle" Oreius told him
"No" Peter sighed "But I bet they help" he spoke as a horn blew in the distance
I could see them now and the Griffin was right, across the field was an army much larger than our own but that didn't worry me we had monuvers and tactics they would never expect.
At the head of the opposing army was a Minotaur and he was followed by the Witch as she made her self present on a chariot pulled by two polar bears and around her neck she wore my fathers mane. And that made me furious.
I let out a deep and menacing growl as my eyes locked on the golden fur around her neck. I tore my eyes way for a moment and look to the future king, the boy whom I had shared a kiss with moments ago. He raised his sword and the trumpets sounded making our army roar.
I watched as the opposing army roared back and I must point out, it was pitiful but they charged forward with their arms ready. They drew nearer and at the right moment Peter sent the signal for the first attack. This was a tactic I thought was rather genius, apparently its very similar to the tactics used back in Peter's home land of London during their war.
The Griffins few across from the cliff side and carried large boulders with them, once they reached the enemy they dropped them, destroying anything in their path.
"Are you with me?" Peter spoke as he looked firstly, at me
I unsheathed my sword that was strapped to the saddle "Always" I smiled and looking him right in the eyes, then nodded before turning to Oreius "Till the death" he answered
Peter raised his sword high in the sky "For Narnia and for ASLAN!" he called
I let out a battle cry with the rest of our troops and Arthur raised his front hoofs and neighed before galloping along side Peter's unicorn. This was it. Let the battle commence.
My heart raced as Arthur pushed himself to go faster along with Peter and our troops followed, soon then enemies face became clear and several cheetahs ran head to fight the Witch's white tigers. All I could hear was my heart beating in my ears as I pointed my sword forward getting ready to attack the first person to cross my path.
SLAM!
My sword collided with a Minotaur as I punctured his armour and stuck his chest, as he fell my sword was released and I killed an Orc on my left. Arthur bucked and slammed his hoofs down on any on coming dwarves. I narrowly missed several arrows coming my way but once I had killed the Orc, Arthur pushed on. I watched as several of my people were taken down instantly but I carried on. Protecting those who I could and fighting any traitors who came near me and all that time, I never let Peter out of my sight.
I crossed my arm over my body and sliced through the neck of an ugly beaked creature, spilling its blood. I knew these deaths would play on my concious but right now, I had to protect those I love.
I continued to battle a large bear as the remaining troops of the enemy marched forward but before they got close enough a flaming Phoenix cut across the path and set it on fire, separating them from us. The troops cheered and due to the small distraction, I just dodged a swing from the bear as he aimed for my head. I ducked and stabbed him quickly in the chest before pulling out my blood stained sword and steering Arthur to ride towards Peter.
As I rode towards him I saw a dwarf about to attack from behind. I pushed Arthur to go faster and before the evil creature could reach Peter, I leaned down and swung at his neck, severing his head.
We rode and stopped next to the king who watched the flickering flames die out due to the power of the Witch. I thought that would have bought us some time but I guess not.
"Fall back! Lead them to the rocks!" Peter yelled and the trumpets flared as he pulled down his helmet and road back towards the rocks, me not far behind.
As we drew closer Edmund sent the signal for the arches to fire again, taking out anyone on our tail. Several creatures fell around us and I pushed Arthur to go faster which was not a problem, he was the fastest Stallion in Narnia. We ran a head of Peter slightly only to have his Unicorn hit by an arrow from the enemy, his Unicorn fell forward and Peter body flew off the saddle and collided with the hard ground, his helmet flying off his face.
In an instant I pulled back on the reins making Arthur halt just a few steps away from Peter's lying body "Go to Edmund" I yelled in his ear so he could hear me over the battle "Protect the Prince" I told him before jumping of the saddle without a second thought and running to Peter's aid.
I pulled the arrow from the Unicorns behind, and told him to go with Arthur and then I ran over to Peter who was still on the ground "Peter!" I cried, the blonde king looked up and saw me kneeling over him and I helped him sit upright. We both then stood together and our eyes locked on the Witch was getting closer along with her troops. Before the two of us could register what happened next, Oreius and a Rhinoceros ran past us, charging at the enemies.
"STOP!" Peter called but it was too late, they had ran ahead and begun attacking and we both watched in awe at two of Narnia's mightiest warriors.
The Rhinoceros knocked down several members before being slain by an Orc but Oreius rode on and disarmed many more while trying to make his way to the Witch. One Minotaur, then two and before I could blink the Witch and the noble Centaur were battling. He fought valiantly before she stuck him with her staff freezing him in place. In a mere second I had lost my greatest teacher and dearest friend.
Peter was frozen on the spot as we watched the Witch dismount from her chariot and begin fighting in the battle. I had underestimated her fighting skills and she fought against many of our bravest warriors and took out two Eagles at once. I watched around me as many more of our troops fell, Peter noticed too as he called to his brother who had now joined us on the battle ground "EDMUND, THERE'S TOO MANY! GET OUT OF HERE! GET THE GIRLS AND GET THEM HOME!" he ordered before being attacked, two Minotaur's came our way. With my first sword still in hand I blocked his axe and pushed him back, graining ground. He then made a slow yet hard swing for my head, I dodged the attack but ducking and as I ducked I slashed his through his knees bringing him down and with one final swing I sliced across his exposed neck, killing him instantly.
"ARABELLA! LEAVE! SAVE YOURSELF!" Peter yelled as we stood back to back fighting our enemies
"NEVER!" I grunted as I killed and on coming bear "I'M WITH YOU ALWAYS, REMEMBER?" I yelled
Peter was still fighting the same Minotaur, so spinning around from Peters back I stabbed the Minotaur in the side of his chest where he was exposed bringing him down and killing him.
I then heard a smash, like glass or ice. Peter and I both turned to see Edmund had broken the Witch's staff. I was pleased to see how brave Edmund was and how much he had helped us by doing such a simple thing but the feeling soon vanished as the Witch tossed Edmund's sword away and stabbed him in the abdomen making him fall.
"EDMUND!" Peter cried out for his brother and ran in vengeance towards the witch.
Once my head was back in the battle I continued fighting off any more enemies in my path. I tried to follow Peter as I killed off many that were coming all at once. A Minotaur crossed my path too quickly and upon impact my sword fell from my hand. I used my shield to block the next blow which knocked me over, he took this opportunity to strike but missed, yet his still managed to cut my exposed thigh. I ignored the pain and I rolled to the side dodging another swing and another, I pushed my self up with my hands, flipping back into my feet and startling the Minotaur. I quickly grabbed my second sword and with my left arm bashed my shield into his face knocking him down before slicing his throat.
I looked up at Peter for just a moment who was still battling the Witch when I felt something land on my back. A dwarf had jumped down onto me and nearly knocked me down and tossed aside my shield. I turned swiftly and dropped to the floor, slamming his back into the ground under my weight before standing back up and killing him with my sword.
I ran to the witch as I watched her knock down Peter, her sword in his shoulder . I leaped up and blocked her strike. She was surprised at first and stumbled away slightly but her smirk reappeared "Princess" she mused "Come to save your knight?" she mocked, I growled and swung my sword aiming for her neck but she blocked it and smacked my wrist making me loose grip of my sword. I ducked her next swing and spun on the floor, I stuck my leg out and my shin collided with her knees, bringing her down. I then stood upright doing a small back-flip and using my boot to kick her face.
Once I was a safe distance away and grabbed my Sai's from my back holsters and spun them around my wrist before clutching them tightly. I got into my stance and she slowly raised and waited for her attack. She roared as she took her sword and swung for me, I quickly blocked I with a Sai before spinning around and cutting across her chest, slicing off the fur from around her neck. Once she realised what I had done she screeched before swinging her sword rapidly for my chest. I jumped back, dodging the attack, she swung again as a means to gain ground. After her second swing I saw my opportunity and I charged for her exposed abdomen, she ran back, avoiding my attack and then I swung once more slicing her bare arm. She examined the cut before sticking again. I blocked the sword that came down with both my Sai's. She pushed down harder and I struggled to keep the sword away from my temple until I heard a mighty lions roar.
I looked as my father roared from a cliff and from behind more troops joined, along with Susan and Lucy.
"Impossible" the Witch whispered and it was then I took my opportunity to push her away, she stumbled and I allowed a smirk to spread across my face.
"Surprised?" I mocked before charging into combat once more, I swung hard and faster gaining ground, the Witch stumbled with each step back, I was aiming for my final blow that would surely finish her but I was struck in the leg with an arrow. The pain was sudden and sharp making me stumble and fall, the Witch took that as her cue and she ran forward disarming me and landing onto of me, slamming my body into the ground, knocking the wind out of me.
She pulled out a dagger a tore open my chest armour leaving me in only my white blouse and a perfect target for my heart, she turned to Peter who was still on the ground, struggling to get the blade out of his arm while battling a dwarf "Watch little prince" she spoke, gaining Peter's and the dwarf's attention "As I kill your precious princess"
I looked into Peter's eyes for what I believed would be the last time, the Witch brought the dagger down and just before the blade could pierce my skin, there was a deafening roar and her body flew off me. I watched as my father tackled her down with ease and tore out her throat.
I let out a sigh of relief and quickly pulled the arrow from my leg. I stood up slowly, grabbing both my Sai's that were next to me, ready for any attacks before limping over to Peter, I pulled the sword from his arm before ridding him of the pesky dwarf by plunging the extra sword into it's back and helped Peter up. He allowed me to lean my body on his as support as now my left thigh was sliced open and my right thigh had been punctured by an arrow.
I watched as my father slowly turned to face us and I grin spread across my face. I had my father back "It is finished" he told us as I placed my Sai's back into their holsters.
"PETER! PETER!" two voices called and we turned to see Lucy and Susan run to their brother, he released me making me stumble slightly before I caught myself and embraced his sisters
Susan's eyes darted around frantically "Where's Edmund?"
I watched the three siblings run over to where we last saw Edmund, I stood behind as my father approached me "You're injured" he announced.
"For now" I shrugged
"You did well Arabella and fought valiantly, I am very proud of you" he told me, I turned to look at my father in the eye before wrapping my arms around his mane and hugging him tightly, as I did a hearty chuckle escaped his mouth making his body rumble slightly.
"I'm glad your back" I whispered
He and I then walked over to where we saw Peter, Susan and Lucy surrounding Edmund's body, they were smiling as Peter lifted him into his arms and hugged him tightly, soon all four were in a group hug until Edmund noticed we were watching.
My father breathed on a near by solider of ours who had been frozen by the witch's magic, bringing him back to life. Lucy then picked up her cordial and started running to the injured feeding them each a drop. As Lucy and my father worked on reviving some of our lost ones, including Oreius. Susan and Edmund gathered up survivors and I went to go back for my weapons. I limped as I walked and Peter noticed "Arabella!" he called and he ran to me "Lucy!" he turned and called for his sister and she soon followed.
"You're wounded" he said as he placed his hands on my waist from behind and was the blood seeping out from my trousers
"Here" Lucy said handing me the vial.
"Lucy I'm fine" I chuckled.
"But your bleeding!" Peter protested.
I just chuckled and grabbed a dagger from my boot, I tore the fabric open slightly where the deep cut was from the Minotaur's blow and slowly the siblings watched as it healed over. I did the same to the arrow wound and the four stood shocked.
"How is that even possible?" Susan gasped
"There are only two ways I can be killed" I explained "One of those is a dagger to the heart, however you cannot wound me as I would heal"
"What's the other way?" Edmund asked.
I grabbed the thin and long chain from around my neck and pulled it out from under my blouse "This" I said showing them the lion pendant and ring "My ring" the blood red jewel was once again vibrant "When the jewel cracks or is destroyed, I lose my life force, I am my fathers daughter and only my fathers daughter, this contains a Lion's tear and a drop of his blood, his magic keeps me alive" I explained
"That's why Aslan got angry at the witch" Lucy whispered "They day she came to the camp, she knew"
"She did" I nodded "But I do not know how which worries me, if she knew, anyone could" I sighed and the five of us fell silent, Peters hands still resting on my waist.
"Come, we have troops to rally" I smiled before running off to the battle field. I on the way down I grabbed both my swords I started gathering any injured or frozen troops.
As dusk approached, my father and the Kings and Queens made there way back to camp. I however stayed behind helping clear up the enemies and the witches remains. As I walked along the cliff side I saw a white tiger injured and bleeding.
It breaths were heavy and ragged, like it couldn't hold on much longer. It's pale blue eyes locked onto mine and I felt instant sympathy for the creature.
"Please" it whispered, it was a female "Help me, m-my child" he paw travelled down to her lower stomach and that's when I realised how big it was, she was pregnant and at a full nine months by the size.
I gasped in shock and quickly placed two fingers in between my lips and blew sharply creating a sharp whistle noise which summoned Arthur. In a few seconds Arthur instantly was by my side.
"Arabella! Is something wrong!" he was worried clearly
"Arthur, help me take her back to camp" I said pointed to the pregnant tiger "She need our help"
The stallion nodded and sat down so I could carefully move her body and lay it across the horse's back. I sat behind her, keeping her in place and steady. I kicked with my heels and Arthur stood up and began to race for the camp which wasn't far, however I feared she may not be able to hold on for much longer.
"Stay with me" I whispered to her
"Thank you" she smiled lightly
As Arthur sped over to the camp I found out her name was Moira and that the witch had sent her into battle not caring about her pregnancy. I scowled at the thought of the witch and how cruel she was. We reached the camp in half the time due to Arthur's speed and we came to a halt at my tent.
"Help! Somebody help me!" I called frantically
Peter, Edmund, Lucy and Susan all charged out of their tent along with many others.
"What is it? Are you alright?" Peter questioned, getting to me first
"I'm fine" I breathed "But I need your help" the four siblings then looked at me and soon the whole camp was watching us, including my father.
"She needs our, help, she's pregnant and wounded" I explained quickly and I jumped off my horse. Arthur slowly sat down "I need you, Peter and Edmund to carry her to my tent, Susan I need water and lots of linen and a clean, it must be clean, dagger, Lucy, she needs some of your cordial" I explained"NOW!" I yelled and I slowly stroked the tigers head.
Susan ran off instantly and Peter and Edmund lifted the tiger gently of the horse and carried her to my tent, I rushed past my father and as I entered I pushed aside the table and the boys set her down on the floor with Lucy behind.
"Don't let anyone in but me or you sisters? Understand?" I ordered "Thank you, now leave" I told both boys and they obe/yed "Lucy, cordial, now please" I snapped only worried for the poor tigress.
Lucy gave her a drop of the cordial and I could see that her wounds were already starting to heal "grab those cushions and blankets please" I said pointing to a corner of the tent.
I quickly ripped off my armour and tossed aside my weapons, including my daggers before Lucy came back with the pillows and blankets. I raised her head and slipped a pillow under it and then tossed the blanket over her body.
Susan then came running in with the linen, water and clean dagger. I set the dagger on the clean linen careful not to contaminate it before washing my hands in the water.
Just as I did so, she was ready to give birth.
***Peter's POV***
We waited and paced outside of the tent for what seemed to be hours, it was now nightfall and most of the camp had gone to bed, exhausted from the day's battle. The only people awake were the Beavers, Mr Tumnus, Edmund, Aslan, Oreius, Arthur and myself.
As time ticked on I grew restless, I wanted to see Arabella. She saved my life and was nearly killed for doing so. I kissed her before the battle and just left her, I have to see her.
As if on cue, Susan and Lucy emerged from the tent, sadness across their faces making me worry.
"She didn't make it" Susan sighed as Lucy sobbed
To be honest, I was saddened by the news as I knew it would effect Arabella after her desperate attempt to save her and her child.
Arabella soon emerged from the tent, her blouse stuck to her body as it was drenched in water, her face gleaming with sweat and she stared down and the bundle of linen in her arms with a sorrowful smile.
"She may not of made it" Arabella whispered "but the baby did" she looked up at us all and walked closer. It was then I saw that wrapped in her arms was a white tiger cub, sleeping soundly and its fur wet. "And it is my duty to raise and look after the child" she spoke
"You will do well to do so" Aslan nodded as he stared at the cub in his daughters arms
"Is it a boy or a girl?" Lucy asked
"A girl" Arabella answered as her eyes wandered back down to the new born
"What are you going to call it?" I asked
Her eyes glanced up to meet mine "Moira" she nodded "After her mother" her eyes never left mine
"That's a lovely name" Lucy grinned
"I like it" I smiled and she smiled back, I took a few steps closer to get a better look at the cub, that and to just be close to Arabella.
"Moira" Aslan whispered, we all watched the Lion as he lightly placed his paw on the cubs head, brushing the fur and at the smallest touch the cub flickered it eyes open revealing a stunning pair of sapphire blue eyes and the first person they land on is Arabella.
Cheesy I know, but Moira will hold a lot of significance to Arabella in later chapters and she will also be apart of a key upcoming chapter.
