Chapter 10
November 2nd 1974
The Marauders were currently sitting in the Great Hall for breakfast, before the first Quidditch Match of the year. Castor was both nervous and excited about the upcoming game; he just wished that his first game wasn't against Slytherin.
After breakfast the Great Hall emptied out and the students headed down to the Quidditch Pitch. Vega took a seat with Alice, while Lily was sitting with Severus.
"I can't believe Lil ditched us for Snivellus."
"That could be why V. You don't exactly get along with him"
"Are you saying that you like him" Vega raised an eyebrow at Alice.
"No I don't like him at all. He is everything that Slytherins represents. He is evil, cunning, cruel and just plain pathetic."
"I know, I agree with you. But I'm not going to pretend to get along with him just for Lil's shake, yes I won't pick on him or throw hexes at him if she is present but that isn't the point. He is just as bad as well"
"I know V. Trust me I have been there at time when you and the rest of the Marauders have been duelling with him and his friends"
"Ooo look they're finally coming out"
Vega and Alice watched as the two teams came out. The Gryffindor and Slytherin teams were standing opposite each other, if he wasn't for the Professor's present a duel would break out then and there from the looks they were all giving each other.
"EVERYONE WELCOME TO THE FIRST GAME OF THE YEAR! SLYTHERIN VS GRYFFINDOR! THE CAPTAINS HAVE JUST SHAKEN HANDS AND MADAM HOOCH IS ABOUT TO THROW THE QUAFFLE. THE QUAFFLE IS UP AND ZABINI CATCHES IT BEFORE PASSING IT OFF TO NOTT, BUT UNFORNATELY IT IS INTERCEPTED BY MONROE! MONROE PASSES TO BLACK, WHO PASSES IT ON TO POTTER WHO HANDS IT BACK TO MONROE, MONROE AIMS FOR HOOPS. CAN AVERY BLOCK IT? NO HE CAN'T GRYFFINDOR SCORES!"
"V, your brother is actually really good!"
"I know, it was the thing he missed most last year. He made the team second year at Salem but then we had to transfer here and last year there were no vacant positions so he had to wait. I guess he was lucky Bell was in his final year"
"LOOKS LIKE ONE OF PARKINSON TWINS JUST AIMED A BLUDGER TOWARDS LONGBOTTOM. LONGBOTTOM IS HIT, HE SEEMS A BIT DAZED BUT HE TOOK OFF AND SEEMS LIKE HE IS FINE. LONGBOTTOM IS LUCKY"
"Oh no, Frank just got hit"
"Ali what is going on with you and Frank?"
"Nothing, I don't think he knows I exist actually" Alice looked upset at this
"That can't be true. Maybe I'll ask Sirius or James if they know anything." Vega winked at Alice before turning back to the game
"BLACK SCORES. THAT MAKES THE SCORE SLYTHERIN 40 – GRYFFINOR 70. THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY CLOSE GAME, WHO KNOWS WHO WILL WIN. LOOK AT THOSE THREE GRYFFINDOR CHASES THROWING THE QUAFFLE AROUND WITHOUT HAVING TO LOOK WHERE EACH OTHER ARE. BLACK THROWS TO POTTER. POTTER SCORES"
Cheers erupt from the Gryffindor stands.
"THIS GAME HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR TOO LONG ACCORDING TO THE SLYTHERINS. THEIR BEATERS ARE STARTING TO PLAY DIRTY JUST AIMLESSLY HITTING THE BLUDGERS AROUND. THAT HAS TO BE A FOUL"
"FOUL! PLENATY SHOT FOR GRYFFINDOR" Madam Hooch blows her whistle
"POTTER TAKES THE SHOT. CAN HE MAKE IT! OF HE COURSE CAN POTTER SCORES"
"Ali this match is getting really bad"
"They will be fine. It is always like this when Gryffindor and Slytherin"
"I know I think I find it worse that Cas it out there now" Alice just nodded
"HAS THE SNITCH FINALLY BEEN SPOTTED? BLACK IS IN A DIVE. WHERE IS MCKINNON? WHY IS SHE JUST FLOATED UP THE TOP HAS SHE NOT NOTICED WHAT IS GOING ON? BLACK LEVELS OUT WITH NOTHING IN HIS HANDS. IT LOOKS LIKE BLACK WAS TRYING TO TRICK MCKINNON. WAIT MCKINNON IS NOW GOING INTO A DIVE. HAS SHE SPOTTED THE SNITCH? POTTER SCORES. MCKINNON IS STILL CHASING THE SNITCH, SHE IS GETTING CLOSER AND BLACK IS HOT ON HER TRAIL. MCKINNON CATCHES THE SNITCH! GRYFFINDOR WINS!"
"ALI THEY WON!" Alice and Vega were hugging while cheering for the Gryffindor win.
It was the following Monday and Sirius was starting getting restless due to lack of pranks. They were sitting in Transfiguration. Sirius was sitting next to Vega while he was waiting for her to finish transfiguring the hedgehog into cushions.
"Sirius stop staring at me! It's not going to make this happen faster" Vega started glaring at Sirius.
"I can't help it. I'm bored and you're taking forever to do it."
"Sirius I don't care. Now shut up before I hit you!"
"Like you scare me, you can't even hit that hard"
"Do you really want to try me?"
Sirius didn't reply, he just stayed quiet for a few minutes thinking of what to do. Then he got an idea. He started transfiguring Vega's hedgehog before she had the chance.
"Stop it Sirius. I'm trying to learn to do it and you're not even letting me"
"But I'm bored" Sirius complained.
"I don't care if you're bored now stop it"
"But..."
"If you don't shut up I'll let you fail astronomy"
"I don't care"
"That's it I've had enough. Silencio" Vega giggled at the look on Sirius' face when he realised that he couldn't talk.
"Serves you right now let me practise"
Sirius didn't enjoy the fact that Vega had shut him up; he thought he should annoy her even more. He started poking her in the side and pulling her hair. It didn't even take 5 minutes before she finally snapped
"BLOODY HELL SIRIUS. I'M TRYING TO PRACTISE THIS SPELL, JUST BECAUSE YOU DON'T WANT TO LEARN!" Vega had stood up before yelling at Sirius
"MISS MONROE! Why are you yelling in my class?" Vega sat back down while McGonagall looked at her with pursed lips.
"I was trying to practise the switching spell and Sirius kept annoying me. After a while when he wouldn't shut up I put a silencing charm on him hoping he would stop, but then he started poking and pulling my hair and then I yelled"
"As much as I enjoy a silent Black, please put him back how he was and you both will serve detention tonight"
"I hate you Sirius" Vega reserved the charm giving Sirius his voice back.
"No you don't" Sirius gave her a lopsided grin.
The next morning Sirius woke up not realising anything was different, he showered and got ready for the classes that day, and it wasn't until Remus looked at him and started laughing.
"What's so funny?" Sirius eyed Remus
"Your hair is gone" The other boys had started laughing as well.
"Are you kidding me?" Sirius ran over to the mirror. "I'M GOING TO KILL HER!"
"What makes you think it was a girl and which girl?'
"Because I know Vega is getting me back for that detention we served last night" Sirius groaned while trying to fix his hair.
"I don't think you're going to be able to fix it Sirius, you know her charms work is much better than yours" Castor laughed at him.
When the boys went downstairs they saw Vega sitting in an arm chair with a massive grin on her face and she just started laughing at the lack of hair on Sirius' head, if she wasn't sitting in the chair she wouldn't have been able to stand.
"This is so not funny V" Sirius glared at her.
"Oh it so is"
"I'm getting you back for this"
"Oh you can try" Vega poked her tongue out before leaving the common room. All day Sirius was laughed at and been given weird looks by the other students. When he entered the common room that night all he could do was glare at Vega thinking of what to do with her the next day.
The next morning when Vega woke up and walked into the bathroom she noticed that Sirius had attempted to get her back by turning her hair Slytherin green. She just sighed and turned it back to her natural blonde.
"He was never any good at charms" Vega laughed to herself before getting ready for the day.
Sirius was sitting in the common room waiting for Vega to come down the stairs. When she finally did he noticed the lack of green hair.
"How did you fix it?" Sirius looked rather disappointed.
"Because you're shit at charms" Vega grinned at him before heading up to his dorm.
It was a few days later when the Marauders were sitting in the boys dorm. Vega and Remus were looking over the map trying to work out how to charm it so it could show everyone in Hogwarts.
"Remus there has to be a way for this to work; I can't believe the spell didn't work. I can't think of anything else left that we haven't tried."
"That is true V, I'm sure we will find something and plus even though we have a name for the map, we can't very well put our own names on it. We should come up with nick names."
"Nick names can be hard, but Sirius could be asshat"
"HEY! Why am I being brought into this?"
"Because of you and your boredom the last few weeks I have been stuck in detention nearly every night. The nights we haven't been in detention you, James and Cas have been at Quidditch practice"
"It wasn't all necessarily out of boredom. Sometimes your fun to annoy just for your reaction to it"
"Are you kidding me? You poke and prod me just because you like the reaction I give. THAT'S BULLSHIT"
"It's not bullshit, just because you can't hold your tongue"
"Do you want me to shut you up again?" Vega smirked at Sirius remembering what happened in Transfiguration the other day.
"You wouldn't dare" Sirius eyed her while everyone else in the room just watched them argue.
"Your right, I'd rather do this." Vega sent a stinging hex towards Sirius
"OW! WHAT THE HELL VEGA!"
"You have been getting on my last nerve lately!" Sirius and Vega then started throwing hexes and jinx's at each other.
"EXPELLIARUMS" Remus caught Sirius wand while Castor caught Vega's
"What do you two think you're doing?"
"He started it" Vega pointed to Sirius
"No, you did" Sirius and Vega started arguing again. The others couldn't get them to stop. It wasn't until Castor realised that Vega was about to tackle Sirius that Castor grabbed her by the waist.
"Seriously Castor, let me go. I have had enough of him. I'm sick of him of annoying me in every class!"
"No, go for a walk first and then maybe you can have a go at him"
"Fine" Vega then left the room slamming the door behind her.
"Damn it, Sirius. Why do you always have to do this?" Remus handed Sirius his wand back.
"I didn't think it would have gone that far"
"Exactly, you didn't think Sirius. What do you think would have happened if we weren't here" All the boys were now standing in front of Sirius
"How would you have felt if you had ended up hurting her? Imagine how we would have felt as well"
"Alright fine James; I'll go talk to her stop guilt tripping me" Sirius then walked out of the room in search of Vega. His first choice was to try the astronomy tower. He slowly made his way up to tower. He tried to sneak in without startling her. It was in then that Sirius took in Vega that he realised just how beautiful she was, her hair was shinning in the moonlight and her eyes were sparkling. Sirius shook his head, he can't be thinking this.
"V..." Vega turned around and looked at Sirius and smiled.
"Why are you smiling?"
"Because I'm sorry and an idiot for the way I reacted and I can't be angry while I'm up here. How did you find me?" Sirius went over and sat next to Vega.
"I'm sorry as well V. I should have known to stop before it got too far, but I was enjoying your reaction too much" Sirius grinned at her.
"You're such an idiot. But still how did you find me?"
"Because I know you V. Just like I know everyone else, Cas and James go to the Quidditch pitch. Remus goes to the library and Peter, well you didn't hear it from me but he hides under his bed."
"Is that where he disappeared to while we were fighting earlier?" Vega laughed
"Yes I believe so, I didn't have a chance to look for him and I came after you instead. I had to make sure you were alright"
"Thanks Sirius I'm glad to know that you care" Vega leaned against Sirius and he put an arm around her.
"You're welcome. Now tell me. What are we currently watching?" Vega just laughed and started pointing out the constellations that were visible at this time of year.
