OK OK I'M GOING! I JUST FELT LIKE TALKING TO YOU LOT :*

Hermione tried to do as he told her. Warned her. She stayed close to Harry and Ron, completely ignoring (or trying to ignore) the disarming blonde Adonis that haunted her every dream. She held all her emotions in a tight coil, not daring to tell Harry or Ron about her little episode with the devil himself. Fortunately Harry was too busy with the TriWizard Tournament to give Hermione much attention and Ron, well Ron was just Ron.

Surprisingly, Malfoy steered clear of her as well. She no longer felt his eyes piercing her, willing her to look at him. He no longer taunted her. No longer argued or insulted Ron or Harry. The effect was profound. Her friends' moods effectively lightened. Hermione's heart warmed seeing their elation and it was hard not to be happy along with them.

She had just gotten out of a rather peculiar and hilarious lecture where Professor McGonagall told them about the Yule Ball. She was still laughing out her heart's content thinking of Ron's face as he danced with the Professor. Ginny, who was by her side, was giggling so much that she was red in the face. A red faced Ginny with the flaming red hair was a sight to behold. Hermione burst out laughing again.

"Here he comes" whispered Lavender brown.

Hermione tried, really tried to stop her laughter. But then she saw Harry who was grinning from ear to ear beside a grumpy faced Ron. She was in stiches and held onto Ginny for dear life.

"1, 2, 3….1, 2, 3…" Fred and George held onto each other and mock danced. Everyone hooted with laughter. Ron showed them an obscene gesture with his hand as he walked away, Harry called after him. With a slight wave to his fellow Gryffindors he started after Ron, still chuckling.

Ginny sighed. Hermione nudged her friend, giggling.

"Let it go" She advised her friend genuinely after all the giggling had died down.

"What?" Ginny said, evasively.

"You know what. Your obsession with Harry. I know it, He knows it, the whole Weasley family knows about it, well except for Ron." Hermione smiled. "He knows that you're obsessed with him. He doesn't feel the same"

"I know I know!" Ginny wailed. "But is it too much to hope that he would take me as his date to the Yule Ball?"

"Oh, the Dance" Hermione whispered. With a pang she realized that she wanted to go with Malfoy. She wanted to dance the night away with him.

"Do you have someone in mind?" Ginny said, interested by Hermione's reaction.

"No" Hermione blurted out quickly. Too quickly.

Ginny grinned. She patted Hermione's hand in an affectionate gesture.

"Oh! I'm sure my brother would take you" With that she sprinted off, the ball full of energy that she is.

Confusion marring her face, Hermione turned to go to her next class and came face to face with the twins. They both had identical comical expressions on their faces, their hands in their pockets, grinning maliciously.

"So which one is it?" Fred asked.

"What?"

"Which one of us are you crushing on?"

"We did hear Ginny-"

"Our sweet sister Ginny"

"Say that her brother would be happy to take you to dance." The grins grew wider.

"So which one is it?"

"Neither. Now get out of my way." Hermione snapped.

"Ow c'mon! It's got to be one of us, isn't it George?"

"Ron's not a handsome bloke" George agreed.

"Plus he's stupid"

"Not your type"

"Though you ain't our type either" Fred wrinkled his nose.

"You're too bookish"

"Smart"

"Nerd"

"Oh for heaven's sake!" Hermione cried out and nudged past the twins who were now howling with laughter.

Muttering under her breathe she entered her potion's class and made way towards her seat. She had just finished arranging her items when Harry and Ron entered. She grinned at Ron's sullen expression. They came and took their seat on either side of her. Ron grumbled and laid his head on the desk. Hermione tousled his hair playfully. She turned to grin at Harry and met his glare. His scowl, as fierce as that of a Viking warrior. Hermione tried to show outrage at the unprovoked attack, yet she wasn't sure whether she was able to achieve that feat. Hermione deliberately turned her attention to the parchment in front of her. Snape called everyone to attention then. Hermione had never been so happy to see her potion's professor before.

"I'm going to divide you all into pairs. Each one pick a piece of paper from this bowl here. Those with the same number join together" Groans echoed through the whole class. "NOW" Snape ordered when no one made a move towards the bowl.

Chairs scraped across the floor as everyone rushed towards it, no need to be told twice. Everyone but one.

"Do you need a special invitation Mr. Weasley?" Ron flushing red and ran towards them.

"5 points from Gryffindor" Hermione glared at Ron. He grimaced.

Carefully Hermione took out a piece of paper from the bowl. It read "4". Quickly scanning the room, she made her way to desk 4 and started gathering all the ingredients. She heard someone approach but was too busy to look up.

"We'll need two more of those" Hermione looked up at the sound. Blaise Zabini stared back at her with an uneasy smile on his handsome face. He was indicating towards the unicorn horns. Hermione went through the list of ingredients and nearly sighed. He was right.

"Thanks" She whispered.

"Today you will all be making the Wiggenwald Potion. Can anyone of you tell the rest of the class what that potion is exactly?"

As expected, Hermione's hand shot up in the air. As expected, Snape ignored it.

"Well?"

"It's a healing potion" Came Draco Malfoy's voice.

"It has the power to awaken a person from a magically-induced sleep." Hermione said at the same time.

Snape glared at Hermione.

"Very well. 5 points to Slytherin. Can you elaborate Ms. Granger?"

"It is as I said. It awakens a person who have been to put to sleep by means of Magic. From a potion perhaps…"

"It is used to cure the Draught of Living Dead" Draco interrupted. Hermione shot him a glare.

"Yes. You see, there was this prince once…"

"This is potions class not your story telling session. Next time, keep that in mind. 5 points from Gryffindor" Snape drawled out.

Hermione flushed pink. Ron groaned.

"Don't worry. You did great" Zabini murmured as soon as they were left to their own device.

"Are you actually being nice to me?" Hermione uttered bewildered. First Malfoy, now Zabini…? What in Merlin's name have happened to all the Slytherins?

"You need to stir it a little more. We need an orange color" She added.

"It's orange enough for me. And yes. I am being nice to you. Why is it so hard to believe?"

"Well because I am a… mudblood" Zabini laughed at that.

"You're not fooling anyone here Granger. And neither is Draco"

Hermione froze, her hand in mid-air, in the process of adding salamander blood. Chuckling to himself, Zabini took it out of her hand and poured it himself.

"I'm his best friend you know" He whispered.

"What are you talking about?" Hermione croaked out. Zabini just shook his head. An amused smile on his face. They worked in silence for a while until the potion turned red in color.

"You know" He spoke again gently leaning towards Hermione to take out the five lionfish spines.

"Slowly turn around. Nonchalantly. I'm pretty sure that Malfoy is glaring at me. God I can feel his anger all the way from here"

"What are you talking…?" Hermione began as she turned around.

Sure enough. There was Malfoy, who was also holding lionfish spines in his hands. Only his concentration was not on it. No, as Zabini predicted, he were glaring at them. His hand curled into a fist, crushing his lionfishes. Crabbe, his partner, was scratching his head while reading his notes again. His eyes darting from the notes to the crushed lionfishes in Malfoy's hand.

Zabini gave her a sideway glance.

"Told you so" He smirked.

Hermione couldn't help the smile that flitted across her face.
