Klaus left calmly with Maddox back to the apartment to hideout. Where he contemplated the way he was going to tell Caroline the truth. He figured if he just came upfront and clean about it, she would trust him. And even keep his secret. But from her friends? He thought to himself. But tonight was too much of a risk to keep her in the dark. They could have killed her. He made the decision to tell Caroline. Even if she freaked out and made a big deal about it, he could just drain the vervain and compel her to forget.
Klaus found Caroline at the grill sitting with Bonnie. She had got up to leave and Tyler had bumped into her, making her drop her purse and half the stuff that was in it. "He is such an idiot" Klaus thought to himself. He waited until she got outside to catch up to her.
"We need to talk" Klaus said. "Nik" Caroline said surprised as usual. She agreed to go with him to his apartment to have a chat. Klaus mostly wanted to talk there just in case things went south. He would be able to drain her of vervain in ease.
"Wow, so this is where you live..." Caroline said as she was looking around. Suddenly, Mason came out of his room. "Oh!" Mason said in shock when he noticed Caroline. "Uh... how are you alive?" Caroline said in shock as well. "He is why we need to talk" Klaus answered her guiding her to the sofa to sit down. "No, he is the reason why I was tortured last night" she explained as she sat down. "We didn't tell them to come up here." Mason said in his defense. "Klaus even tried to warn you" he added as he sat down in a chair. "Uh...Klaus?" Caroline asked looking at Klaus for answers.
"Let's start from the top, shall we? Klaus said as he handed Caroline a glass and was filling it up with gin. He explained everything just like he did with Mason and Maddox. Except for some small details like how she treated him in his present and everything about Tyler.
"I just want to break this curse that was placed on me. I never wanted Katerina or Elijah to come to town looking for trouble" Klaus said trying to sound innocent. He continued to explain how he doesn't even want to kill Elena. How he still needs her to be alive after the sacrifice. Caroline was speechless. She didn't even know what to say. Mason had got up and went back to his room.
"We got to know each other really well in my present. I would like for it to be the same in this time." Klaus said with a smirk. "So we dated?" Caroline asked. Klaus couldn't help himself to lie. "Well you called me your boyfriend once or twice" he answered with a smile. Caroline was still processing everything.
"I just need you to keep this little secret." said Klaus. "This? You want me to keep all this a secret?" Caroline said confused. She was terrible at keeping secrets. "I knew this was going to happen." He sighed. "Well you can't just drop bombs on me and then expect me to not want to tell my friends." She replied.
"Are you afraid of me?" Klaus asked.
"For some strange odd reason, No. I believe everything you say. And I feel safe and comfortable. But I can't keep a secret like this from my friends." She answered. "Might as well compel me" She added while throwing up her hands. "Guess I will have to" Klaus said.
"Guess I'm on lockdown... do you have any blood bags?... I'm starving". Caroline said as she reached for the remote. She already knew what to expect because she just had to do the same thing to her mom. Klaus was surprised how well she was taking it. He didn't even really need to compel her since he already did at the masquerade ball. He compelled her to not able to tell anyone about him. And he decided that he didn't want to compel her to forget him. But he didn't want Caroline to leave so he played along. Grabbing a bag out of the fridge and handing it to her. "Here you are, sweetheart" klaus said as he sat next to her on the sofa.
Honestly Caroline was kind of happy that she was getting to spend time with him. And relieved that he had told her everything. She had been so afraid, ever since she first learned of this "Klaus" coming to town. Now she finally knew everything and wasn't afraid. She felt safe there next to him. Safe from Katherine, Safe from Elijah and Safe from the wolves. It felt good to finally be able to relax after all the worrying.
A few hours had passed as they cuddled on the couch watching tv. Caroline had fell asleep, So Klaus carried her to his bed. He covered her up and kissed her goodnight. He went back to the sofa to sleep being the perfect gentleman.
