Disclaimer:I don't own any of this! Lord of the Rings and everything it contains was originally the idea of J.R.R. Tolkien. Credits for Narnia and everything associated with it go to C.S. Lewis. The idea for this originally came from the video 'The king, the girl and the lion – Trailer' by Nonokun24 on YouTube. And that's about it :) Well, it was also partially derived from a part a friend wrote and let me read a long time ago, but by now has forgotten. Still, I dedicate this chapter to her!
Author's Note: Finally, I have returned. It's great to be back. There's no greater pleasure than returning to my readers, and one that I have denied myself for too long.
I know, I know… I couldn't be much slower if I tried. And I'm really sorry. I intend to work on this story more, though apart from this, there won't be much uploading. During the academy year, I hope to make it up. That's the plan anyway.
A Shogun and two Western Royals conspiring to escape Sauron's claws. Sounds good. But the Nazgûl is around, and he can always pose a problem. Even worse: he brought company…
I hope you'll like the read!
And if you're bothering to read, please leave a review!
The Lone Islands
The albatross is flying, making him daydream
The time before he became one of the world's unseen.
Princess in the tower, children in the fields;
Life gave him it all an island of the universe.
Oh, now his love's a memory, a ghost in the fog.
He sets the sails one last time saying farewell to the world.
Anchor to the water, seabed far below,
Grass still in his feet and a smile beneath his brow.
This is for long forgotten light at the end of the world,
Horizon crying the tears we left behind so long ago.
So long ago…
So long ago…
Nightwish: 'The Islander'
Ar-quan
A warning to the people,
The good and the evil:
This is war.
To the soldier, the civilian,
The martyr, the victim:
This is war.
It's the moment of truth and the moment to lie,
The moment to live and the moment to die.
The moment to fight,
The moment to fight,
To fight,
To fight,
To fight!
To the right, to the left,
We will fight to the death!
To the edge of the Earth;
It's a brave new world
From the last to the first.
To the right, to the left,
We will fight to the death!
To the edge of the Earth;
It's a brave new world!
30 Seconds to Mars: 'This Is War'
(Jarw – Tao)
"Your Grace!"
The Admiral sighed. "Please tell me it's important, Targutai."
"I merely suspect, tono," the Captain answered, "but if I'm right, we're dealing with the most ancient and sacred laws."
The Shogun nodded. "Go on."
Targutai nodded on his turn and said: "The Nazgûl brought mercenaries as well. A large number. Khândians. I think they've been talking to their compatriots."
"Who are being watched by Xa-Moru," Tao remarked.
Grimly Targutai answered: "That means our comrade is in danger. And if he is dead…"
The Easterlings didn't know actual abusive language, but the Shogun cast a fierce curse on the Khândians.
"Lucy."
(Lucy/mercenary captain)
Lucy was brought to the captain.
The man grinned. "Good job, boys. There's a place for everybody in my company."
"I sure hope so," one of the two men who until recently had served the slaver. "Our former employer won't be happy about this."
"The Dark One will. If we cause damage beyond repair to the leader of the West now, he'll have an easier time winning the war, won't he? We aren't doing anything wrong," the captain calmly reassured him. "That Blood Warrior of hers?"
The other of the two said: "I distracted him. He followed us, but he got arguing on his way. I don't think that's been resolved just yet. And if he finds us here, we outnumber him 23 to one."
The mercenary captain nodded. All that went well. He turned to the girl again. So this was their greatest obstacle on the road to victory? He was not impressed. He took his time to look at her and after a few minutes started caressing her face. Lucy shrunk back as far as she could; the two turncoats still held her.
The captain grinned. "Don't be like that, sugar."
For a brief moment Lucy looked at him, and she focused on Edmund the best she could. He would never allow a mercenary captain to intimidate him. Edmund would say he was scum and treat him accordingly. So for the few seconds she looked at him, her eyes were cold and hard.
His were calculating. She was sugar, as far as he was concerned; a treat, to be enjoyed and never to be given another thought.
She quickly looked straight ahead again, but thought Edmund – and the Admiral – would say she, because of her birth alone, was infinitely exalted above this man. The fact he apparently found it hard to accept that only made him pathetic. She was more than he ever could be.
Suddenly, she felt warm, as if a fire had been lit inside her. It felt like power.
Then the moment was over. The Khândian deliberately, calmly and harshly slapped her face. Some of the fire remained in her; it felt like her tears evaporated behind her eyes.
"Do you want me to do that again?" the captain easily asked.
Lucy was looking for the right balance. She honestly didn't fancy more strikes than strictly necessary, but neither did she want to give in to him just like that by begging and humiliating herself.
So in the end, as coldly and unmoved as she could manage, she said: "No."
The captain was thrown off balance. He hadn't expected such resilience. But she didn't have to know that.
He slapped her again and smirked: "That's what I thought."
He imagined he had wasted enough time. Time to move on to the real thing. He drew his dagger.
"Don't panic, little one," he grinned. "I'm not going to kill you. I just might hurt you a little bit."
He started cutting open her clothes, but had barely started when suddenly the dagger fell out of his hand. The captain soon joined it in falling to the ground, as he made horrific gurgling noises. Lucy had only once seen anything like it: on the battlefield where the armies of her father and adoptive brother had met. These were the convulsions of a warrior who was already dead.
The renegades let go of her and turned around, as did Lucy herself. Four furious Easterlings were running towards them.
Targutai killed the first turncoat before the latter could do anything in his defense, and then fought the second. The mercenary didn't stand a chance. The Captain of the Dragon Galley was too well-trained.
His brother-in-law fought even better: he cut the first mercenary he reached straight in two, from his shoulder to his waist, and pulled his dagger out of the dead captain's throat. With it he deflected a sword-stroke, and he killed the attacker immediately. A third opponent was decapitated and a fourth run through.
The two others… Lucy had seen all the armies of the West, but no one had ever fought like the ar-quan. They literally jumped at their enemies and attacked them even during their leap, kicking. The mercenaries fell back. The ar-quan were incredibly quick and had excellent senses; they saw every strike coming in time and deflected every attack.
Lucy saw they used their right arm, the strong arm, to block. The Easterlings actually weren't built big or muscular, although they were much stronger than their stature made others believe. But they still needed all their strength to stop the heavy blows from their bigger Khândian opponents. And their katana allowed that; those swords were so sharp they didn't need to put a lot of force behind them. They could easily stab and cut through bodies, and the leather armor of the mercenaries barely helped. Apart from wood or metal shields Lucy couldn't think of anything that'd provide any protection from this formidable weapon. Not for naught she was the daughter of the greatest warlord of his generation; she could appreciate weapons and fighting styles.
The mercenary captain had brought twenty of his own men. The Admiral had killed four. Each ar-quan now killed eight. The fight lasted for less than ten minutes.
Then her own Blood Warrior finally came running to the scene. "Blood of my blood!" he shouted; his swords were unsheathed and seemed soaked with black blood.
Lucy replied: "I'm alright." She turned to the Admiral. "Thank you."
"I merely did what any believer should do," the man smiled. "And taking out this scum was my pleasure."
The Blood Warrior growled: "Filthy Orcs… I followed you, blood of my blood, and I was just about to address the mercenaries who took you with them when I encountered a company of Orcs patrolling on the Nazgûl's orders. About fifty, hence why it took so long."
"You killed fifty Orcs?" Lucy asked bewildered. "In less than half an hour?"
"They got into each other's way," the Easterling shrugged. Then he knelt. "Blood of my blood, I have dishonored myself. I should have died before they got so far with you. Shall I erase this shame by ending my life?"
Lucy looked at the Shogun, unsure. She knew Easterlings had a hard, violent culture. Maybe it was kinder to let him commit suicide. On the other hand, she, Westerner, wasn't very comfortable with it.
Jarw – Tao said: "It is your choice. He is your Blood Warrior, not mine. If you wish his death, you need only nod or give him permission. Otherwise you give him the perspective of an honorable alternative."
Lucy nodded. Peter had taught her a thing or two about Eastern culture and she had some idea what such an honorable alternative might be.
Calmly and clearly she said: "Blood of my blood, I reject your offer. Your death will be of more use to me at a later time on the battlefield."
The Daimyo grinned for a split second. She learned fast…
Then he stood and bowed, smooth-faced. "As you wish."
Author's Note: Yes, I know, all bad guys are rapists. And it was already established Eastern nobles are badass. However, I liked writing this, going a little more in depth. I can only hope you enjoy reading it as much!
So, Lucy is protected by ancient and sacred laws. That guarantees that the Easterlings won't harm her. Katana have saved the West. But there's plenty of work left.
Coming up next on 'The King, the Girl and the Lion – With a Vengeance': While Peter and Lucy are trapped on the Islands, their siblings in Cair Paravel are just getting on with the job. Can the Leader and the Lord Marshal count on help from the home front, or will Susan and Edmund be left in the dark?
And – you saw it coming – if you have some more time to spare: why not give my friend Supreme Arcanite Magician's story 'Yu-Gi-Oh: European Duel Academy' a read? Or would you mind checking out the videos on YouTube related to this story, made by Nonokun24 and EdwardElricGirl200 respectively?
