Chapter 9
"Well this was fun and all E, but can we please go home? I have to give you your surprise!" I rolled my eyes as I stood up, hands grabbing a hold of the spire as I looked up at the full moon, the moon beams bathing my face in pale light as snow started to fall again. Jack flew around in circles as he poked my shoulders with his staff.

" Fine, only if you stop poking me with your dang staff!"

Jack laughed as he stopped behind me, his arm wrapping around my waist pulling the front of my body flush against his chest. I looked up at him in shock as a blush grew from my neck to fill my face. Jack smiled down at me before tightening his grip on me as he called out.

"Hey, Wind! Take us home!"

The wind threw us into the cool night air, causing both Jack and I to laugh in excitement. Our hearts beating with adrenaline as Jack released my waist and allowed me to fly on my own. I rolled to the right as I frowned slightly at the loss of contact. I shook my head as Jack continued to do aerobatics mid-flight.

"Jack! Where are we going?"

Jack flung his arms and legs out in a X formation to slow him down, causing him to fly directly next to me. His cerulean blue eyes gazed into my electric blue ones with mirth as his mouth stretched into a grin.

"Why so curious?" I rolled my eyes as I banked to the left and knocked my shoulder into him.

"Because, I don't want to be pranked and have snow go down my hoodie... again." Jack laughed as he knocked his shoulder into mine which in turn caused me to fly off course.

" Didn't it ever occur to you that I can be serious from time to time?" I sighed as I glided through the air and looked at him with soft eyes.

"Of course you can be serious Jack, But I know you have more of a record in pranking and having fun than being serious. I mean... you're Jack Frost!"

He nodded in agreement as we continued to fly under the moon's soft rays, causing the sea below us to glitter black and white as wave's rippled with the current. Our conversation slipping into a comfortable silence as we flew up above the clouds then quickly banking to the left as we began out descent into the early morning sunrise.

Gasping in shock my wings blazed behind me, causing me to come to an abrupt stop mid-air as my eye's took in the scene of the sun waking up the snow covered town of Burgess Pennsylvania.

"Jack! I- I can't... Not today... Maybe not ever."

Jack spun around as he glided to a stop a couple yards away from me.

"You can't what Eva? You can't go into a town and watch over kids? You can't do what you've always done?"

I looked down at the snow covered forest below us as my bottom lip quivered. Yes, I admit I was scared. I didn't want to get my hopes up that everything with Anna would go back to normal, that she didn't almost die on my watch when I was supposed to protect her. But another thing that kept me from flying into that town and straight to Anna's house, was the prospect of her being alive... but not being able to see me. Now, I understand that's selfish, my being more afraid of being forgotten than her being dead. I'm just tired of feeling alone. I'm tired of seeing a charge i have grown to love and care for in just the short amount of time I've been apart of this world, not remembering me and just walking through me like I wasn't even there. Like I'm a flew up to me and bent his head down so he could look into my eyes.

"Eva, how can you know something will happen, if you never try? How can you know she won't see you, if you don't at least go and see her?" I looked into Jacks eyes as my heart started to beat faster at his close proximity. Why couldn't I do this?

I nodded and bit my lip as I tore my eyes from Jack's as I felt a blush creep up my neck at his intense gaze. Why was my body reacting to his gaze now? I shook my head to clear my thoughts, when the sun's rays hit my face, causing me to blink rapidly as my pupils adjusted to the sudden light. I looked back at Jack as his face and hair were bathed in the early morning light of red, orange and yellow. He smiled sadly at me as the wind brushed my bangs out of my face. Inhaling deeply I looked over the town of Burgess as people started to walk out of their houses to see the snow covered roads and side-walks. Nodding my head at Jack, he smiled as he grabbed a hold of my arm flew us over the town only to stop above a small house with familiar shutters and a dead flower bed. He released his grip on my arm and gently pushed me, causing me to begin my descent down towards the house.

I inhaled deeply as I came to a stop in front of Anna's window and smiled slightly at the music note and butterfly stickers. I looked up as saw Jack floating in the air with his back facing the ground as he twirled his staff around with his fingers. Shaking my head I looked back at the window and focused my eyes to peer through the glass, my heart beating wildly in my chest. Laying in the middle of the floor was Anna's tuxedo tabby cat. I couldn't contain my cry of joy as my attention was drawn to a familiar little girl, with unruly blonde hair, run into the room and tackle the lazing cat into a tight embrace and carry it in one arm as she climbed onto her bed. The young girl reached for a brush on her night stand when her eyes fell upon the window I was hovering in front of. My hood was over my head as the little girl slid off the bed. I swear I stopped breathing.

This was it, I thought. Either she see's me and we play again, or she just see's the snow on the ground and becomes excited for a snow day. She thought as the little girl slowly walked towards the window, grooming the tabby forgotten, which in turn allowed the animal to escape into the house. I bit my lip as my stomach flipped nervously, my fingers tugging on the cuffs of my sleeves as the girl... Anna... walked up to the window... to me. Her eye's filled with wonder as she came to a stop in front of the window, her curly hair getting in the way of her eye's slightly as she looked out the window. I chewed on the inside of my cheek as Anna pushed at the bottom of the window when suddenly there was a yell. Anna jumped and turned around quickly as a woman with blonde curly blonde hair walked into the room and snatched the girl up and started to spin her around.

"Anna! C'mon, it's time to go outside and play sweet heart! Your father and I are going to take you sledding!" Anna laughed gleefully as she started to shout out loud.

"Snow Day, Snow Day!"

I exhaled disappointedly as her mother carried her away from the window, and down the stairs to pull on their mittens and coats. Looking up, I noticed Jack still in his lounging position, staff still twirling in his fingers. I hope he didn't see that...I shook my head. It didn't matter if he saw it or not! No, we didn't interact like we used to. But I am as sure as Jack is cold, that she saw me. I slowly began my ascend towards Jack when I heard a yell from the street.

"We're going to the park Sissy! We'll play then!"

I looked down to see Anna, my Anna, in a dark blue coat as she waved up to me from the side-walk. I smiled happily as tears sprang into my eye's. She CAN see me! I looked up at Jack to see him floating with his stomach facing the ground, his arm's were crossed in front of him as his chin rested on a forearm as he smiled down at me. I squealed in delight as I shot upward and wrapped my arms around Jack's waist, spinning us in my excitement.

" I can't believe it! She can still see me! Oh my gosh... what are we gunna do first? I mean we could play dolls, or build a snow man. We could have a snow ball fight or play tag or hide-and-go seek? Oh my gosh there are so many-" I was stopped mid-ramble as Jack pulled me close- my nose buried into his neck- causing me to inhale the scent of peppermint and winter.

Jack couldn't believe Eva was hugging him. Being a winter spirit, he never felt warm and when he was warm, nothing good came out of it. But, as Eva hugged him in excitement, he felt a comfortable warm. A warm, he knew he would never forget, and as Eva continued to ramble Jack felt a sudden urge to be closer to her so, he inhaled deeply and wrapped his arms around her shoulders. His right hand buried itself into her straight blonde hair pulling her head into the crook of his neck as his left hand pressed against her mid-back. He pressed his cheek against her head as he breathed in the scent's of pine and sun-flower seeds.

I can't believe Jack's hugging me! This day is just getting better; Anna can see- I pulled away quickly as I felt my face flush with embarrassment. Only I could be this stupid. I thought as I turned my back to Jack to allow my face to cool down. Why didn't I see this before? Jack want's to be seen soo badly, and here I was throwing it in his face! how awful of a friend could I be?

"Eva? You okay?"

To caught up in silently berating myself, I didn't notice Jack's hand on my lower back until he spoke. I jumped at the contact and slowly turned so I could look into Jack's eyes. They were filled with mis-understanding and hurt; Even though my heart was beating as fast as a hummingbirds wings, guilt sank low into my gut once again as I realized how Jack must feel. Biting my lip in worry I nodded and gave him a small smile, My electric blue eye's looking down at my black converse.

" Yeah Jack, I'm fine." I looked back up at him to no longer see the hurt puppy-dog look but only to see mis-understanding. I sighed as I ran a hand through my hair, causing some strands of hair from my bangs to stick up in odd angles.

" I just can't believe she can see me. Y-you were right Jack."

He threw his head back and laughed as he shoved his hands into the pockets of his hoodie, his staff resting in the crook of his elbow, hook end down.

"Of course I was right E, I'm Jack Frost. I'm always right."

I rolled my eyes as he grinned down at me, his eye's filled with humor. Shaking my head i began to float upwards before stopping a good 30 feet above Jack.

"So now I guess to celebrate this momentous day of you finally being right, we shall begin this snow day with a oh what should we do... oh I see. A snow ball fight?"

Jack grinned up at me and the next thing I knew, Jack shot passed me, causing my hair to fly upwards with the air current's he was using, as he shouted loudly with glee at the seasons very last.

"SNOW DAY!"

I laughed loudly as I darted after him, dodging cars and a sign declaring the Burgess Easter Egg hunt on Sunday. I shook my head as frost grew from the strings holding it up and looked at Jack to see him cover a car in frost.

"Jack! Slow down!"

I caught a draft of wind that sent me speeding towards him. I exclaimed loudly in triumph as I almost yanked his hoodie off. Giggling like a maniac, I wiggled my fingers at Jack as I sped off towards the lake, Jack chasing me while using his staff as a snow board. Landing on the ice, I squealed in surprise as I fell on my butt, only to have my hood yanked which caused me to slide to the shore. I crawled onto the cold dirt as I held my stomach, laughing till my pale cheeks were red and blotchy.

I sat up as I looked up to find Jack crouched next to me, holding his own stomach. I shoved his shoulder as I stood up and started running until a gust of wind shot me up into the air then dropped me on my rear-end next to a book titled "Mysterious Times- They're Out There!" I laughed and motioned Jack down as I ran my fingers through my wind tousled hair.

"Look Bigfoot, Aliens, The Lochness Monster." I looked up at Jack as a boy with brown hair, a tan hoodie and a blue vest ran to pick up the book.

"Hey that's interesting, is it good?" I smiled at Jack as two identical looking boy's ran up to the boy with the book and punched him in the arm while shouting in joy.

"Snow Day! Yeah!"

"You're welcome!" Jack chuckled to himself as he raised a hand up in recognition. He yelled out in surprise as arms and legs wrapped themselves around his neck and waist from behind and the boy with the book inquired about the egg hunt. Jack looked over his shoulder to see my flushed face smiling at him with joy.

"C'mon Jack! Follow them!" I threw my hand out to point the the three boys running up the hill and across the street. Jack shook his head as he pushed off from the ground, wind ruffling our clothing as snow fell in our wake. Landing on a wooden fence, I tightened my grip on Jack as I brought my self up higher to where my thigh's were resting on his hip bones. I blushed slightly as Jack's grip on my legs tightened slightly as he assured himself and me that I wouldn't fall. I bit my lip as a sigh escaped my mouth as I pushed off of Jack and landed gracfully on the fence. I smiled at Jack as my heart thudded in my chest. Why did I do that? I smiled slightly as the boy with the book began to inform the twins on what was in his book.

"It says here that they found Bigfoot hair samples and DNA in Michigan! That's like super-close!" I looked at Jack and rolled my eyes and muttered.

"They believe in Monster's but not actual spirits, can you believe that?"

Jack shrugged his shoulders as he started to walk along the fence, his staff rested on his right shoulder. I rolled my eyes and stood on my tip toes and balanced on my right foot as I brought my left foot up to the side of my knee, forming a P. I smiled as a little girl with choppy blonde hair ran around on the porch with her arms out. I was about to comment on how I adored how some kids where so carefree when Jack made a comment.

"Oh the Easter Bunny's real alright. Real annoying, real grumpy and REALLY full of himself." I quirked an eyebrow at Jack as he shrugged his shoulders, his staff now swung across both of then as he walked the fence.

"What E? It's true. Now you've never met him but he is. How about this? This Easter I'll introduce you to the Kangaroo, hm?" I rolled my eyes as I watched the little girl hop down the stairs like a rabbit.

"Easter Bunny! Hop, Hop, Hop!" I sat on the fence and clasped my hands together and pressed them to my left cheek.

"Aw, isn't she adorable Jack?" Jack smiled lightly as looked down at me, his features growing soft until there was a loud bark that emmitted from the kid's grey hound before it knocked the little girl down. The boy who had the book sighed in annoyance as he grabbed his sleigh and called out as he walked away from his little sister.

"Mom! Sophie fell again!" I gasped softly in shock at how apathetic the girl, Sophie's, brother was to her. So I jumped off the fence and knelt next to her and whispered quietly. " You okay little one?" I was just about to reach for her when I heard a louder voice call out.

"You okay, Soph?" Sophie nodded as she crossed her legs and began to rock slightly. I jumped away just before the kid's mother walked through me, my heart beating wildly as I narrowly missed being walked through. I looked up at Jack who just smiled somberly at me. It still amazed me how, even though I do have kids who can see me, Jack never felt any sore feelings towards me. I guess that's why I'm always scared that Jack will just stop talking to me.

"Jamie, Hat."

Jamie! I knew that boy seemed familiar! He was the one picking on Anna last year! Now he's only ten and Anna's now 7. Boy does time seem to fly; Although, he doesn't seem to have changed much in personality.

"Ugh Mom!"

"We don't want Jack Frost nipping at your nose." I gasped in surprise and looked up at Jack who looked like he just won the lottery. Someone knew his name!

" Who's Jack Frost?" I gasped in apallment as Jamie adjusted his blue and white hat, his eyes squinted together in question.

"No one honey, it's just an expression!" I huffed in annoyance as Jack frowned at the mother, his hands tightening into fists at being brushed off as nothing but a metaphor. Jumping off the fence on the other side of the property, Jack grabbed a hand full of snow and formed it into a ball.

" 'Who's Jack Frost?' Oh, I'll show you who's Jack Frost kid." I walked up next to Jack as he smirked at me and held the snow ball infront of my face.

"Blow on it."

I stared at him for a moment, my stomach doing a funny somersault as he looked down at me, eye's half closed causing the cerulean blue to look darker.

"Why?"

Jack rolled his eyes as he shook the snow ball in my face.

"It's for good luck. People at casino's do it all the time. Have a pretty girl blow on the dice, and you'll get the numbers you want... or in our case cause a snowball fight."

I bit my lip as my eye sight skimmed over to the group of kids talking by a bunch of snowmen. I looked to Jack again who smiled broadly as I nodded my head, rolling my electric blue's in the process before blowing on the snow ball. Jack laughed as he blew on the snow ball as well, causing the ball to turn blue and sparkle slightly.

"Now, watch the fun unfold."

Jack brought his arm back , took a moment, then propelled the snow ball forward. It passed tree's and power lines until it hit it's target. Jamie. Stumbling slightly at the hit, Jamie's eyes turned blue for a moment before he laughed loudly in disbelief.

"Okay, Who threw that?" He looked around at Claude and his brother who shook their heads before he turned his attention on a red headed girl building a snow man with a boy who had thick rimmed glasses. Jack and I jumped across the street, laughing lightly as the kid started to look around frantically for the perpetrator.

"Well, it wasn't Bigfoot, kiddo." I rolled my eyes as I walked over to the girl and Boy building a snow man as I muttered under my breath.

"Yeah not Bigfoot, but someone with Big feet that's for sure."

"What did you say E?" I looked over my shoulder and smiled innocently.

"Oh nothing Jack." He snorted and was just about retort when the redheaded girl exclaimed loudly in shock.

"Jamie Bennett, No Fair!"

Laughing, Jamie looked over his shoulder and Claude and his brother as he replied back with an accusation. I rolled my eye's as I bent down and scooped up a bunch of snow, forming a snow ball.

"Yeah, but you struck first!"

I threw my snow ball and squealed in delight and surprise as it his Claude's twin brother knocking him down and another snow ball took down Claude as well. I looked at Jack who had just formed a bunch of snow balls out of thin air as he yelled.

"Free for all!"

A/N: Okay I realize I've been absent for to long, but I'm getting closer to finishing this story. I know where I am going with this now and I just hope you all haven't given up on me. Please tell me if I'm making Eva out to be to much of a Mary-sue or if i should try to do something to where she seems more realistic. Read and Review!
