Chapter 10.
"Finding Dave"
It was a few minutes before the Buford finally hit the lake with a jarring splash, but Claire drove the tank out of the lake and onto dry ground, "Is everybody okay?" Claire asked as they all stumbled out of the tank "I think so," said Alvin, "Man, it's a good thing we don't wear pants." he added.
Meanwhile, Simon was in a panic, "Guys, help!" he yelled, they ran over to find Jeanette on the floor of the tank unconscious, they tried reviving Jeanette with water but that didn't work, "Well," said Toby "There's only one option left.", Simon's eyes got huge, "Y...y-you mean..." he asked nervously, Toby nodded, Simon groaned, "Why me?" he wondered, looking up at the sky, he took a deep breath and was just about to do artificial resuscitation when Jeanette finally came to and Simon jumped back as if he had been electrocuted.
Alvin looked at Simon and a grin started to appear on his face, "Not a word about this to anyone Alvin." Simon said , after much teasing from Alvin, Simon finally snapped, "For the last time Alvin," he said tersely through gritted teeth "It was not what you thought it was.", "Oh." Jeanette said, almost sounding disappointed, "I-I thought you were...um..." she said, her voice trailing off, "Maybe when this is all over." said Simon.
The Buford would have been to conspicuous on the highway so they decided to hijack a car, which they did by driving the tank onto the road in front of an oncomming car, the driver immediately got out while Claire, Toby and the chipmunks climbed in and continued on their way, "according to this map," said Toby, pulling out a roadmap "The prison where Dave's being held is only twenty miles East of here.", so after a quick turnaround, they were going in the right direction.
But not long afterwards, a black Dodge truck pulled out onto the road behind the sedan and two men, one with a sawed-off Mossberg 500 shotgun and the other with a MAC-10 submachine gun, opened fire, "Alvin take the wheel!" Claire shouted, getting up, "What, me?" Alvin said "I'm just a chipmunk!", "Don't ask questions, just do it!" yelled Claire, taking out her Beretta M9 pistol and moving to the back of the sedan.
Alvin took the wheel and Simon worked the gas and brake while Claire, Toby and the other four chipmunks returned fire, wounding one of the passengers and shooting out one of the truck's tires, causing the truck to veer off the road and crash into a ditch.
Once they arrived outside of the prison, it was Claire's turn to come up with a plan, "I'll go in alone," she said "I'll say that I was sent to transfer Dave to another facility for better security."
So the chipmunks and Toby waited out of sight while Claire drove the sedan up to the gate at the main entrance to the prison and they watched as she showed the guard her military I.D. and drove into the prison, parked and went inside.
Claire was gone for a while before she came out of the prison escorting Dave in handcuffs, "Dave!" shouted the chipmunks as they ran out to meet him, "Hey everybody!" Dave said when he saw his chipmunks.
After a nice reunion, it was time to hit the road again, "Hey guys," said Simon looking up from his phone "I just got a text from my friend Harold who lives in Canada, he said he just saw Ian getting off of a plane in Vancouver, British Columbia.", Alvin thought for a long time, "I've got a plan." he finally said "Simon, give me your phone." he said, after Alvin made a couple of phone calls and after Claire put on civilian clothes, they ditched the sedan and took a plane to Vancouver.
