A/N: Hey fandom! I am back with the next chapter and I hope you like it. I would like to send a major shout out to my best friend with whom has been far more helpful than my muse.
*Glares over to the corner at the duct taped mummy.*
*I snicker as Elizabeth tries to speak through the ducktape*
I will have you know that I had nothing to do with her being mummified in duck tape again. My best friend Michelle did it. *Sighs* She was angry with my muse for giving me writer's block since she wants more of this story too. So she grabbed for the duck tape and baseball bat.
Anywho, I don't own the labyrinth nor any of its characters. Enjoy! ^_^
Chapter Ten: Frozen Hearts and Gone
Titania watched as her son and his father blew another hole in the badlands. She just shook her head. Court had convened earlier and with a roar of fury her mate disappeared with a wave of shimmering lights followed by her son. Like father like son she snorted, knowing from the start where to find them.
She watched as her mate threw another crystal. Shaking her head once again she disappeared from sight. She would comeback when it was time to sup.
Darious growled silently and glared at the offending female. Yet another throwing herself at him. He pulled his energy closer to him while drawing it out at the same time. The effect stopping the woman from nattering on and her backing away. His brand of ice was colder than the worst arctic wind. He let it swirl gently around him watching with sadistic pleasure as the young woman stuttered her good-byes and left. He snorted slightly. 'Good riddings.'
He glared for another minute at the wall in his irritation before transforming himself into a huge white wolf and winking out of sight. Time to go for a run.
The woman ducted another blow as she grab the offender's arm and gave a twist before throwing him to the ground. Another managed to grab a fistful of her hair and she heaved back into him sending them both to the ground while nailing him in the sternum before rolling off him and back onto the snow.
Another attacker threw out a hay-maker which she blocked and grabbing the throat that her opponent just exposed, she pulled him forward into an oncoming head shot. As he dropped to his knees she gripped his shoulder and leveled a double kick to the next opponent's ribs making sure to added an extra kick for good measure.
A howl sounded not to far from the woman making her pause. That wasn't one of her's.
That pause gave one of her attackers time to wrap her in a crushing bear hug while another got up from his knees and went for a shot to her head. She snorted silently as she kicked out sending the man flying back as she shot a strike with the balls of her feet to his solarplexis.
Than she grabbed her attackers coat and forearm skin and began to squeeze her sharpened nails digging as she twisted the vulnerable flesh. She smirked as the man behind her let out a cry of pain, letting her go and backing up slightly. She smirked before she whirled around and with a running leap she landed crouching on her attackers shoulders before standing.
With a twist she threw herself backward and sent the victim flying toward the opponent who had just started to rise to his feet. She tisk'd at the six bodies that graced the ground. three of which were unconscious for the moment.
Make that four.
"Nice try guys but you really need to give up. You are not even worth my time." She snickered maliciously before turning to run. Her feet never once sinking into the snow as she headed toward the small town. Her honey colored eyes glancing over to the edge of the woods as she ran as if she sensed that she was not alone.
Darious watched as the strange woman tore through her attackers. He had moved to assist her until he realized that she had things well under control. He watched in awe as she decimated them. His loins flaring as his blood began to howl. He smirked at her comment as he watched her start to run.
He moved to follow her but was frozen to the spot as she looked back and straight toward his hiding spot. He shook his head. There was no way that she knew he was there crouched down and shielded as he was.
When last she was out of sight he changed back into his normal form and as he put his glammer on he calmly walked out to where the six men lay. He frowned as he noticed something strange. He trailed after the woman as the winds picked up and snow started to blow down. Looking back toward the direction she had gone the village just a few miles away. With his curiosity peaked he knew that he wasn't going to find out here as to what the woman was.
As he made his way to the village he noticed that the strange woman's small feet never once disturbed the snow.
"Hi Kate, another six a couple miles just out side of town. They will need your attention. They are on the north side."
Kate shook her head. "SIX! As if I don't have enough on my plate. Maya, you have got to stop this and just pick one already! This has gone on since you arrived here."
Maya growled as she threw her hands up into the air, exasperated at having the same conversation over again. "You know I won't do that. It goes against my code! It is not my fault that these idiots won't give up and leave me be!" The winds rattled the windows as if agreeing with her. She took a deep breath to calm herself. It worked enough that the winds died down.
Kate watched as her friend slipped that horrid mask back into place. Maya had arrived four years ago now and since she arrived things had gotten better and worse. Kate wasn't stupid. She knew her friend had secrets. Maya also however had a beautiful heart. It was just hidden deep beneath a mountain of snow.
For example, Maya would leave beautiful fur blankets with ether bear, moose, or some other meat for the people of the village. Everyone had one of her blankets. Kate's own clothing was made out of a thick hide with fur lining it. It had been tanned to perfection and was almost wind proof. Never in her life did she think that she would be able to wear a skirt in middle of winter and yet she was.
In fact most of the women in the town wore clothes that were Maya made. She was not the only one, who knew where they had come from ether. It is one of the many reasons the men of the town were so obsessed with having her for their wife. She had suitors coming from all over Alaska in fact. Then there was that thing with the news. Maya had been so furious that she announced that the only way she was going to settle down was if she was beaten in hand to hand combat. Since then the once quiet little town was filled with men.
She frowned at the beautiful woman in front of her. Maya was quietly sipping on her coffee her soft honey-amber eyes lost in her own world. She was enchanting. Her blue black hair was pooling down around her feet. Katie sighed silently with longing. Her hair was only to the middle of her back.
Normally Maya kept her hair in a pony-tail high atop her head or in a long braid down her back. However today she left it to cascade down her back like a blue hued waterfall. Her skin was the color of light honey. Yes she was a vision. Today she was wearing a white billowy shirt with a tight black corset and black leather pants which laced up the sides. Knee-high black leather boots completed her look. No cloak again today! Kate shook her head.
It did no good re-priming her for it though. She had tried that a few times and all she got was Maya's small secretive little smile.
Everyone in the town knew that she was not normal. She just appeared one day in a black leather cloak. Its hood concealing her face. When she had entered the inn, she just lifted the hood and looked around before making her way to a chair and sat down. Kate had been the one who had been the first to approach her. She still remembered it to this day.
Flashback
The inn was busy as the residents of the small town poured in. They were laughing and Kate was pouring the drinks when the door opened. Turning to greet the newcomer she stopped short at the figure that was closing it. She watched with apprehension as the figure in a black cloak pulled the hood back to reveal a woman. The woman walked to one of the chairs and sat.
Kate remembering her manners called a welcome into the now silent inn. She made her way to the woman and set a hot cup of coffee down. The stranger turned to her and smiled slightly. "Thank you." She murmured in a throaty voice. "I need a healer. Is there a doctor or medicine woman here?" Kate nodded. "I run a clinic as well as my husband's inn. He passed away last winter. So it is just me. What do you need?"
"Outside is a sled. I found him while I was walking through the woods. It appears that he hit his head. His sled was upturned and his dogs were nowhere to be found. I loaded him up and brought him here. I bandaged his head but I am no healer."
"Thomas, Kail, come help me get him inside so I can take a look at him. Those dogs that showed up must be his. Come on, stop dragging your feet and MOVE!" She growled as she was already half way to the door. She put her coat on The two twins moved at once and within minutes they were bring in a figure wrapped in a coyote skin sleeping bag. Kate glanced toward the woman as she ushered the two into one of the rooms. The woman hadn't moved from her spot, just sipped at the coffee Kate had given her.
End Of Flashback
Kate had finished talking to the twins on the radio, letting them know where to the men were and to pick them up when her inn door blew open. Kate watched with awe as Icewolf walked calmly through the door. He was not a regular in fact it had been five and a half years since last she had seen him.
No one in town knew where he was from. His ebony hair twisted into a long braid down his back. She was with awe as his eyes searched the room. Than she groaned silently as his dark silver eyes stopped on Maya. Not another one. "Welcome Icewolf. Please come in and have a cup of coffee." Kate said praying that he would take her advice as she glanced from him to Maya, who still had yet to move other then to take another sip from her cup.
Icewolf looked at her and her skin crawled as she grew cold. She didn't know why but he always had that affect on people. She tried to steady her hands as she poured him a cup. She watched as Maya cocked her head to the side at the sound a a wolf's howl.
Maya grinned. "That's my que. Thanks for the coffee Kate." Maya turned to face her friend ignoring the man watching her. "How is your meat supply?" Kate turned startled at the question. "I still have enough to last the winter. I wouldn't mind a few rabbits though."
"Done. They will be on your doorstep in a few days. I won't be around for awhile."
Kate nodded in understanding. She watched as the strange woman hurried out the door before turning to face Icewolf, now alone. "Ummm... Are you hungry Icewolf? I have a few bear steaks I could whip up."
"Who is she?" Darious watched as the older woman fidgeted nervously with the hem of her shirt. "Her name is Maya. She showed up about four years ago and comes into town now about once or twice a month." she said fighting the urge to run. She was a grown woman for pete's sakes. He was just one man. She could do this, she steeled herself.
"Why were those men attacking her?"
"It is because they want her for their wife." At the sight of his eyebrows raised she continued quickly. "She has made a vow that she will only marry the one who can defeat her in hand to hand combat. Men from all over have been coming to try their hand but so far all they walk away with 'IF THEY CAN WALK' " she emphasized. "are broken bones and bruises." She sighed regretfully, her fear forgotten.
"She is strong and I can understand that she wants a man who is stronger then she is herself, but... She shook her head. "I don't think that she is going to find him here."
Kate looked up and over to glance at Icewolf.
Only to find him gone.
Darious now back in his wolf form stalked the young woman as she made her way quickly toward the forest. She reached the edge and looked back. He crouched down and watched as her eyes narrowed before she disappeared into the forest. Yeps and howls rapidly grew in volume as he slowly moved forward. He watched as wolves surrounded the woman.
She was kneeling hugging and greeting the wolves as if she were apart of the pack. Her blue hued hair blew gently in the winter wind. His breath caught in his throat at the sight of her smile. She was breath-taking and there was a wildness around her that appealed to him. He trailed silently after her as she started to race with the pack her laughter gaily trailing in her wake.
He was surprised at how fast she was as he kept pace behind her. She slowed as the pack entered the clearing. Snow began to fall as the wind picked up swirling around her. His eyes widened as she didn't seem to feel the cold. Her hair twirled around her as the icy wind played with it. She turned her upturned face toward the wind with a gentle smile. He changed his form as he went to step into the clearing. He froze like stone as the most wonderful sound met his ears.
'Snow glows white on the mountain tonight,'
'Not a footprint to be seen.'
'A kingdom of isolation and it looks like I'm the queen,'
He watched in stunned silence, awed at the view before him. His heart breaking at the loneliness that was infused within her voice. It rescinded deep within his soul. All he could do was watch like the wolves around her.
'The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside,'
'Couldn't keep it in, Heaven knows I've tried.'
The wind picked up with her words as it swirled within her hair. Her head fell back as she looked up at the aurora that was shimmering above them than down to her leather boots that embraced her feet. His breath cought at the image she made.
'Don't let them in, don't let them see,'
'Be the good girl you have to be,'
'Conceal don't feel,'
'Don't let them know.'
He watched as she flung her hands into the air as she spun with a great smile upon her face.
'Now they know!'
He watched in silent astonished awe as snow flew from her fingertips and swirled out to her sides. She was beautiful in her abandon.
'Let it go, let it go!'
'Can't hold me back anymore'
'Let it go, let it go'
'Turn away and slam that door'
Her voice grew stronger as anger flooded her enchanting voice. He felt the anger but he also felt the sadness, loneliness, and heart break as well. He watched as she flung her magic everywhere and he smiled slightly to see the pack playing and chasing the snow as it drifted.
"I don't care what they say!'
'Let the storm rage on!'
He watched as she started to run again, the pack just behind her. He moved to follow as the wind carrying a soft 'the cold never bothered me anyway" to his ears. His smile grew as a plan formed in the back of his mind. For now he would wait.
As Titania returned to the throne room she walked toward her throne. Her hand coming up to rub the bridge of her nose to stave the oncoming headache. A slight movement just out to the right of her eye was all the warning she got before the world went black.
Oberon's head snapped up as fear hit him. He looked toward his son who had throne the last crystal. His eyes narrowed as he tried to reach the connection that he shared with his mate...
He roared with fury and fear coursing through his veins. "Your mother!" Before winking quickly out of sight.
Jareth's eyes widened with confusion as he called forth the blood connection. His mismatched eyes glowing black as he concentrated hard.
He could feel his brothers.
Darious: Alaska: running with the wolves no doubt
Puck: Harassing the chiefs in his parents palace kitchen
His father was now in the throne room.
His mother...
He growled as his eyes returned to normal. He transported to his father's side. His father's energy was wild with rage, shaking the very floor beneath their feet. Jareth looked down to the item with in his father's hand. His mother's crown for flowers. His father started to turn as something hit him. Jareth blinked as his father was no longer there before whirling to counter the sphere that was hurling toward him. He gathered his energy and sent out a shield. His eyes widened as the sphere went right through and hit his chest. Then there was nothing but black.
A sigh could be heard from the shadowed corner of the room. A man moved into the light. His silver hair in a long single braid down his back. "Now for the other two. Than it is all up too her."
With a shimmer of sparkling lights the strange man stepped through the portal, disappearing from sight.
A/N: Finally! YAY! Next chapter will be up soon. My muse and I would like to give a big shout out to our best friend Michelle who has been such a great help and a big inspiration in my life.
Elizabeth snorts. "Yeah, she is just a cruel as you are. Now I am stuck with two psychotic people instead of one! Viewers please feel sorry for me."
Thanks a lot for that complement. I will be sure to tell her how much you love her, anyway, as always, please leave a review at the door.
