Jace P.O.V.
When he walked into the institute's kitchen, Jace didn't find what he'd been excepting. Clary was in the fetal position, curled around Ali, her arms tightly around her. That, and they were both asleep on the kitchen counter. Chuckling softly to himself, Jace dug out his phone, and snapped a picture. He covered the speaker, so the snapping noise wouldn't wake either of them. Clary was exhausted, and had barely gotten any sleep. Ali decided when it was time for Clary to sleep. Isabelle had been helping some, but then Ali puked on her. Suddenly, she wasn't so into helping anymore. Jace took the little green bundle, in his arms, loving how she reflexively curled to his chest, seeking body heat. He sometimes thought it was the angel blood, since she only did it with Clary and Him. That was another thing. It made the Clave, him and Clary, and really everyone nervous about how much angel blood she must have in her and what she could do with it, since it was Jace and Clary's extra angel blood and the shadowhunter blood combined. Clary looked so peaceful sleeping, her small body rising and falling softly with her breaths. Jace never thought that one day he, the feirce, brave, committed shadowhunter, would be holding his child in his arms. But when he first laid eyes on Clary, there was something about her, this mystical quality, that drew him in. He'd never thought he'd be committed to a woman, but he'd move heaven and raise hell for Clary. She was the reason his heart beat, his very existence revolving around her. There'd been a reason he'd asked, more like begged, Hodge to let him be the one to find her. He needed to see her again. Even just glimpsing her that once, this supposedly mundane girl standing up for a random man she didn't even know, even against them, he was aching to see her face again, the way her eyes crinkled up at the edges when she laughed, or when she smiled how she always showed teeth, unless she didn't her lips would quirk up tentatively at the edges, treading on the edge of a strong emotion: happiness. Making sure it was at least slightly there, before forcing it to come out. Without even thinking about it, Jace's hand went to his pocket, where the small, velvet case sat. Jace had wanted to propose to Clary a while ago, but then he found out she was pregnant. It didn't seem like the right time for a wedding, with everything happening. In his arms, Ali stirred, sighing heavily, a soft sound but yet still powerful. She was wearing that green pacifier. Jace remembered that day perfectly, of how Clary'd given him the pacifier in a gift box for his birthday and told him she was pregnant. He remembered how, sitting in the hospital waiting room while they operated on Clary after the accident, he'd never been more afraid of anything in his life other than the fact that he might lose his world and his child because a car. A freaking car. But everything had turned out okay. Ali was the best birthday gift he'd ever gotten. On the counter, Clary started to move around, and her breaths became quicker. She started moving around more frantically, whimpering. She thrashed so much she fell off the counter, waking with a gasp on her hands and knees, raising a teddy bear rattle as a weapon. Jace dropped to his knees in front of her, and she leaned on his shoulder. "Is she asleep?" She whispered, and Jace nodded.
"C'mon." He tugged her to her feet and took her into his room, which was now technically the family's, an placed Ali in her crib before leading Clary to the bed. She snuggled up against him, sighing. "I forget the last time we were able to be alone like this was."
"So do I." She snuggled up against him, closing her eyes. "Wanna talk about it?" He asked, talking about the nightmare she'd just clearly woken up from.
"Not right now. I don't want to spoil this moment."
He nodded and kissed the top of her head. Within minutes, she was asleep.
