Someone Worthy
It was undeniably wrong. She had watched him grow, learn, mature; she had met him when he was just a child.
But he was no longer a child, he was a man. A brave, charming, clever man. Should she truly feel guilty for the feelings she had developed now? He had always been brilliant. He had amazed her from the first time she saw him pick up a wand. Talent like that was truly marvelous.
Then he had only continued to impress her with his dedication and his intellect.
Now he astounded her with his heart. He wanted nothing more than to help others, that was why he was going to Britain, to assist the young king.
She would miss him.
He could have stayed at the castle and taught. She could have loved him.
It was a pity he was so deeply infatuated with her daughter.
Young Helena was beautiful and intelligent… but she was also shallow and cold.
A man as warm and tender deserved someone better, someone more mature, less vain.
That was why she had to break his heart. It was not an easy to choice to make but, she had no other option.
"Rowena?" Young Merlin stood before her, his light blue eyes so full of love and wonder. He would recover; he would find someone else. Someone worthy of him.
"I'm sorry, truly; but, I cannot permit it. You will not marry my daughter."
With that she turned and walked away. She could not look back.
She never wanted to see hurt in those beautiful eyes.
