Chapter 9

Nightmares, they always tortured Emma whenever she tried to sleep. She could feel herself tossing and turning but she didn't scream. She learned a long time ago not to cry out for help. Help never came if she screamed, only punishment came for waking either her foster siblings, or foster parents because of her horrible nightmares. Eventually she sits up gasping for air. Her tiny body is shaking and she realizes that once again she is alone. Of course Lana was no longer beside her, she said she would stay until she had fallen asleep. She knew it was stupid to hope that she would wake up safe in her arms.

Once she is able to calm her shaken form she looks at the clock on her night stand, she still had 2 hours before Richard would arrive to pick her up. Emma shivers at the thought of having to confront him again. She silently tells herself that she just has to make it through tonight, and then tomorrow she would get to be with the cast all day and most of the night before having to deal with returning to another week of school. Emma hears her stomach growling and decides to order room service, she didn't feel like going down stairs and possibly running into anyone, especially Richard.

After she ordered her food Emma sighed tiredly from the constant stuttering and the obvious frustration with the man on the phone. She makes her way to the kitchen in her suite in order to get herself a glass of water, her throat was hurting again. Once she had her water she decided to watch some television while she waited for her food to arrive. She only ordered a cheeseburger and soda, no fries because she didn't want to fill up too much before dinner tonight. As she had on random cartoons playing, her mind travels her to the dark times that might lay ahead. She tries not to think about it, but she sees that horrid dress and she knows that Richard wants her to be obedient tonight. If she tries to rebel even in the slightest there will be hell for her to pay. Emma rubs her hands against her temples and tries to clear her head, she can feel a headache coming on due to her frustration. The child decides that drawing will help her, if anything could ever help her from these unwanted thoughts it was her drawings. She decides to start drawing Jen's face and eventually have her dressed in an Alice in Wonderland attire.

Time eventually passed, she had long finished her burger once it had been delivered. After eating she went straight back to her drawings, she had gotten so lost in her work she was shocked when she hears a knock at the door. Emma looks at the clock and fear instantly consumes her tiny form, it was six already and she hadn't even gotten dressed.

"Emma it's time to go" Richard announces.

"O…ne…mi…nu…te!" She quickly stashes her sketches under the couch and changes as fast as she can. The one good thing about some dresses is that they are quick and easy to get into, she quickly puts on the matching pink shoes and stashes her clothes under the couch as well.

"Emma we need to get going now!" Richard's impatient voice calls.

"Co….mm….ing" She replies and quickly makes her way to the door.

Richard gives her an annoyed look as he looks her up and down. "Did you even bother to do anything with that wild hair of yours?" He questions irritably. Before Emma could try to defend herself he ignores her and grabs her hand pulling her out of the room. "Forget it, I doubt we could do much for it anyway we need to go" To bystanders he would look like a typical happy father walking with his daughter, but for Emma she was gutted with fear. His hand was tight and cold, not warm or gentle like Lana's or Gin's. Emma stubbornly tells the threatening tears not to fall, she just had to get through tonight. Then tomorrow she would get to be with her friends.

Once outside the hotel they get into a limo and the driver takes them to some fancy restaurants. When they stepped inside the restaurant Richard talks to the hostess explaining that they had a reservation. The hostess eventually led Richard and Emma over to two people who were sitting at a round table by the large glass window.

"Richard so glad you could finally make it"

Emma looks up at a man who looked to be in his late mid-50s. He was probably at least 6ft 2inches tall, he had gray hair, and dull brown eyes. He must be Richard's father. The other man also standing up, looked to be closer around Richard's age. His body shape and height were the same as Richard, however this other man had short blonde hair and light blue eyes.

"Always a pleasure to see you to father"

"Yes, yes of course, but your brother and I are really more interested in meeting this sweet looking young lady" The man smiles.

Emma blinks, she tries to see if this smile is a mask but surprisingly enough it wasn't. She gives him a small smile in return.

"Right" Emma could hear the hint of annoyance in Richard's tone. If the elderly man heard it he didn't make any notice of it. "Emma this is my father Charles Rich"

Emma scrunches her nose up in confusion by the last name and Charles can't help but laugh. "Do you think Rich is a funny last name dear? I always thought so as well, but my family has own that hotel for many, many years. We have always been very wealthy. I'm not sure exactly if that's how we got our surname but it has always been with this family for many generations" he explains.

Emma nods in understanding and looks over to the other man who also gives her a warm and inviting smile. "That there is my older brother William Rich" Richard announces.

"You know sometimes I call Richard here Richie Rich, it drives him crazy" Williams grins playfully.

Emma looks over at Richard, the man rolls his eyes and takes his seat at the table. Emma follows suit as the other two also take their seats.

"So Emma, how are you liking your new home so far?" William asks curiously.

"Umm…It's….re…all…y…ni…ce" Emma stutters softly.

Although these people didn't seem too dangerous they were still related to Richard, she had to remain cautious around them.

"My son did tell me about your stuttering, does it ever getting frustrating sometimes? I remember when I was young I used to stutter constantly" Charles asks.

Emma looks at him with wide eyes in shock and he can't help but chuckle.

"Grandpa made dad go to all kinds of speech therapy to help control his habit" William adds in.

"Those classes were so tedious and boring" Charles gives a disgusted look.

"Yo…u…do…n't….stu…tter…any…more?" Emma asks curiously.

"Nope, I can talk nice and clear now. Would you like us to sign you up for speech therapy Emma, they may have been a pain but it really helped me out in the end?" Charles asks.

Emma shakes her head.

"No…tha…nk…y…ou….I've….ha…d…fos…ter…fa…mi…lies…p…ut…me…in…cl…ass…es…be…fore…b…ut…the…y…di…dn't….he…lp" Emma explains shamefully.

Emma had tried to do well in the therapy sessions her previous families had put her through, but no matter how hard she tried her stuttering never got any better.

"Well maybe you'll grow out of it naturally someday, it's been known to happen" Charles gives her a hopeful smile. Emma gives him a very small smile in return.

The rest of the evening went very smoothly, as they ate Emma learned more about William and Charles. Apparently William is married and has a 2 year old girl named Hope. Charles had married his high school sweet heart, but she tragically died from cancer when the brothers were just young teenagers. Charles hasn't been with another woman since he lost his wife all those years ago. Richard was pretty quiet through most of the dinner, Emma got a very unsettling vibe from him. She found herself actually enjoying William and Charles company, they didn't seem like bad people compared to Richard. She wondered how Richard could be so cruel when his brother and father seemed to be very kind. Charles did say that when the boys lost their mother it had been a hard road for them, but that can't be the only reason why Richard is the way he is. William lost the same mother as Richard did, and he doesn't look like he could even hurt a fly let alone a child. Throughout dinner William was showing pictures of little Hope and just talking about how much he loved her, and how blessed he felt to have the little one in her life. Emma couldn't help but envy the little girl, it was pathetic to be jealous of a 2 year old. But, her whole life Emma has only ever wanted a family who would love her like how this father clearly loved his little girl.

As the evening came to an end Emma and Richard said their goodbyes. William and Charles told Emma if she needed in anything, all she had to do was come to their office at the hotel during the day or call them since she now had their numbers in her phone. As Richard and Emma road back to the hotel in the limo it was an eerie kind of silence that took place in the vehicle.

When they arrived Emma had hoped that they would part their separate ways at the entrance, but he was leading her all the way back to her room. The air was thick with tension and Emma had a gut feeling something bad was about to happen. She wanted to kick and scream, cry for one of her friends, but she had to be good. No matter what happened she just needed to make it through tonight. Tomorrow she could be with her friends and they could help her forget about everything, without even telling them what was going on in her life.

Once they made it to Emma's room Richard had closed the door and suddenly grabbed Emma harshly by her hand, tossing her to the floor painfully. Emma whimpered softly but she didn't cry out from the sudden impact.

"You enjoy making me look like a fool girl?" Emma knows better than to answer so she remains quiet. "Father and William certainly seemed to love your sorry ass tonight, now this means I really can't fuck up this whole father act" he grumbles irritably. "Let's get one thing straight brat, so long as you keep father and William happy and do as I say you'll be able to live a pretty damn comfortable life. But the second you fuck up I'm sending you straight back to the foster care system. I'll make it so you never get to see those new friends of yours ever again. Do I make myself clear?"

Emma of course wants to cry but she stubbornly refuses to let the tears fall in front of this man, she just nods and hopes he will leave her in peace.

He grins a sick devilish smile that makes Emma want to disappear. "Good" He makes his way over to the couch in the living room and sits down. "Come here girl" He orders.

Emma knows what's going to happen next, she doesn't want to be a victim anymore. She slowly gets up and tries to make it to the door but Richard is too quick for her and he drags over to the couch by pulling her hair. "Didn't I just say that you have to do as I say girl?" His eyes seemed to darken as he glared hateful at Emma.

The child tries to break free from his grasp, but he is too strong. She doesn't cry out for help because she knows it'll be useless and he'll just make things worse for her. No one ever came when she cried for help anyway, so instead she tries to fight back.

"Relax girl I'm not going to rape you or anything like, but I do love those soft gentle hands of yours. Back in the office your touch felt so good" He grins.

"Pl…ea…se…no…t….ag…ai…n" Emma pleads softly.

"Shut up girl, unzip my pants now" He demands, while holding a fist full of her blonde hair so she couldn't escape.

Emma already feels nauseous as she slowly unzip Richard's pants. Her hands are shaking with fear once she can see his private again, she felt so disgusted with herself.

"Now start rubbing girl" He orders.

Emma gives him a cold hateful gaze with her forest green eyes, silently telling him that he would pay for this one day.

Richard didn't like that vengeful stare, it was like he was foreshadowing a dark future as he stared into those eyes. Despite seeing this child shake with fear, the way she was able to look at him was like she was silently rebelling against him, telling him that he wouldn't be able to break her.

Getting annoyed by her look he slaps her across the right cheek harshly. "Don't look at me like that brat, start rubbing, if you don't I won't let you see your friends tomorrow" He threatens.

Emma doesn't whimper, she doesn't even cry from the stinging pain. She would no longer cry in front of this man, she would no longer give him the satisfaction of knowing how much she was hurting inside. Ignoring the stinging pain against her cheek Emma bravely places her hands onto his private. It was disgusting and she felt horribly sick as she rubbed his private like he had ordered her to. No matter what, Emma would survive this because all her life Emma has always been a survivor. One day she would find a way to escape Richard's grasp. She wasn't sure how, but she was determined to leave this hotel behind. She knew that the Once Upon a Time cast wouldn't be here forever. Whenever they finished with their filming they would head back home to their families, she would be left here completely alone.

"Mmmm that's a good girl. Tell daddy how much you love me"

"I…do…n't…ha…ve….a…da…ddy" Emma replies stubbornly.

SLAP. Richard rewarded Emma with another painful stinging sensation against her cheek. "I'm your dad now whether you like it or not brat. Tell me how much you love me"

Emma doesn't want to, but she has to see her friends tomorrow. "I…lo…ve…yo…u…da…ddy" she replies with clear disgust in her voice.

The man grins. "You certainly are a daddy's girl angel" He snickers.

Emma's blood boils inside, but she doesn't allow him to break her. She isn't sure how but maybe she could try and convience someone from the Once Upon a Time cast to adopt her. Emma knew it probably wouldn't happen, she can't just go up to them and suddenly pop out a question like that to them. Although Emma has only known the cast for a few short days, they are the closest thing to a family she has ever had. Everyone was so kind and warm to her, they all accepted her flaws and were always so patient with her. No, Emma would have to bond with them more. Maybe try and see who would be the most likely to even want to adopt a child. By the time the Once Upon a Time cast is ready to head back home, she hoped that she would be able to escape this place with them. She couldn't tell them about the abuse, because if she does someone will just call her social worker and she'll be sent away even sooner from the cast. No matter what happens now, Emma can't see her life being without the cast anymore.
