Chapter 9

Battle for the Survivors' Camp

Part 1: Into the Nether

Our troops were gathering up at the battlements and courtyard. A few guards were ushering families and children into an underground bunker. Most were pretty terrified and some children were bawling their lungs out. Shawn and Wolf Chains walked up the stairs and upon seeing Zeroxiphalea, Shawn ran to the other side. Wolf Chains walked to me and Dalton and asked "How do we know we are under attack?" Dalton sighed and said "Well, Red-Eyes there told me they were coming. Better safe than sorry."

Tommy, Dan and Douglas walked up to me. "Is it true they're coming?" I shrugged and they walked off. Jordan and Yale came up the stairs and asked where Zeroxiphalea was. I looked around and finally spotted him as he was nearly invisible at night with his black robes. Yale hurried to him and started speaking frantically about something before Yale went downstairs.

We waited for half an hour without anything and the soldiers were getting sceptical. They sat down and started chatting. Dalton tried to get them to continue keeping vigil but they ignored him. Ice walked up behind me and told me the families in the bunker were getting sceptical too. The soldiers got ready to bring them back out again. That is, until Xipholi teleported up.

The soldiers sprang to their feet faster than a baby zombie on sugar. Dalton and Wolf Chains drew their swords out while Ice and I tried to stop them.

"STOP. He's on our side." They finally put their weapons down. Xipholi began speaking while Ice translated for the soldiers.

"They're coming. I had to tell you. Now they know I defected. Just…get ready."

Wolf Chains told Xipholi to go into the meeting room and brought Yale up. They entered and started discussing. We squinted hard and could just make out the shapes of endermen. Before we could react, they teleported up. In an instant, a couple soldiers were flung off the battlements. One fell into the lava moat. The rest drew our swords and started cutting. I dodged one's claw and sliced its face off before kicking another off the battlements. Yale opened the door and an enderman charged. Luckily, Xipholi teleported and clawed at the enderman.

"Xipholi! You traitor!" I heard the enderman snarl.

That enderman got kicked down and Yale sliced its head off. However, another slammed into Xipholi, knocking him off balance. Yale drew his sword and slashed the enderman's back. The creature howled and collapsed into a heap.

Dalton kicked an enderman away as another slashed clean through his gold armour. He kept fighting, jumping on an enderman's head and breaking its neck. Wolf Chains sliced through the endermen like knife through butter but was caught off guard by one, which knocked him off. He managed to hold on and climb back up before kicking the enderman off.

Ice was quickly slammed off into the courtyard, alerting others downstairs. Just as a soldier ran up, an arrow launched itself into his throat. Spider jockeys and skeletons rode over and shot and we retreated. One spider tried to jump but fell into lava. An arrow inserted itself into mine and Dalton's arm but we kept fighting until Yale shouted "Cannons!" The cannons appeared out of the walls and fired, blowing up skeletons and crushing others with debris.

Reinforcements surged in and Iron golems were released. The endermen quickly retreated. We cheered, until more mobs poured in. A creeper blew up, launching another high in the air. Just as we wondered what that was for, the launched creeper fell onto the battlements.

KABOOM!

We went flying in all directions as the explosion sent blocks flying. Most of us were flung far away. I saw another creeper trying to launch another and gritting my teeth stood up. Zeroxiphalea gnashed his teeth in anger before leaping off, Massacre following behind. They launched themselves upon the Ender Army. The drawbridge opened and many troops poured out. Jordan fired volley of arrows and killed many. That was when Yale pulled me back.

"The portal is ready. You need to go!" I started to complain but he wouldn't take no for an answer. I sighed and jumped in. Purple swirls filled my eyes and I felt like vomiting.

A blast of heat hit me the moment is stepped out. The netherrack was steaming hot and I was right outside Herobrine's nether fortress which was ruined and actually frozen. Dead zombie pigmen lay across the fortress, bits of ice sticking out, their broken gold swords lying next to them.

I walked through the corpses, careful not to step on them. I walked into the throne room and there Herobrine was, his eyes closed.

"Err…Lord Herobrine?" His eyes opened and he looked a tad relieved to see me.

"What happened here?"

Herobrine gritted his teeth in anger and growled "That idiotic Ender dragon. It created this demon. Yes, don't give me that look, it created the endermen, it created this demon. That demon has frozen my beautiful Hell and can only be killed by us working together! So let's go kill a demon."

3rd person POV

At the Survivors' Camp, the battle raged on. Cannons were firing and soldiers were trying their best to find ammo. The archers stood at the battlements, firing volley after volley of arrows. Jordan stood at the middle, launching all kinds of arrows at the Ender Army. The witches however, banded together and cast a powerful spell. At that moment, a quarter of the creepers lifted off into the air and sped straight for the archers.

Dalton's day was not going well. The mobs were attacking in quick succession and not all were undead. His armour didn't protect too well against the mobs but he fought on along with the defence team. Casey Locke shot an absolute ton of arrows at the mobs but it wasn't enough. Sasha and Jason were fighting hard but they were exhausted already.

Yale and Xipholi stood side by side, slicing down mobs and endermen that got close. That was when a huge slime bounded up. This slime was humongous, many times larger than a big slime. The survivors gulped and readied their weapons.

Jake POV

I hurried after Herobrine who drifted like a ghost. The nether was ruined. Cave-ins were everywhere and dead mobs were strewn across the ground. Most notably, the ice crystals that got larger and larger. Every once in a while, I would hear a monstrous roar, so terrible it didn't belong, even in Hell.

A death cry of a ghast echoed through the Nether. That was when I saw the Beast. It was huge. Nearly twenty blocks tall. Its four legs with claws the size of me supported a massive body. Its blue eyes were protected by a ridge of ice on its elongated head. And every single part of its body was covered with ice spikes.

Herobrine summoned in a number of blazes and ghasts and flew up, throwing a fireball. It barely bothered the Beast.

"Quick. Expose an area of its legs!" He ordered.

I ran towards it and sent a wave of energy which broke off a shard. It looked down and roared and Herobrine shot a wave of fire. The Beast roared in anger and sent a snowstorm out of its very mouth. Herobrine was sent flying back.

I rolled under a huge ice block the demon summoned and slashed with everything I had. The Beast roared in pain and tried to crush me under its feet but while big and powerful, it was slow. Herobrine stayed still for that entire time, as if charging up energy. His eyes opened and out strewn a powerful bright light that started melting the ice. It roared and shot another huge ice block. At that moment, Herobrine flew forward at blinding speed and slammed into the Beast so hard, ice shards flew straight off and impaled the ceiling of the Nether and it got knocked back a large distance.

"Your turn!" He yelled as he gasped for air. That attack must have drained him. I saw that the part where Herobrine attacked had just a little ice left. I shot a beam of energy and shattered the rest. Herobrine leapt to his feet and shot a beam of fire, which incinerated the creature's chest. It roared one last time and collapsed. The ice started melting. Herobrine smirked and drifted away. I hastily ran after him. Just then, I couldn't move. Herobrine also stopped moving.

"Our feet. They're frozen." He said. We both turned around to see the Beast standing up slowly, an ice trail stemming to our feet, freezing them to the ground. The chest wound was still there.

"Maybe we have to destroy the head?" I suggested. Herobrine summoned up some fire and started melting the ice. The creature snarled and before I could warn him, an ice spike shot out and impaled him. He screamed and fell silent. The creature turned to face me. It roared and the temperature started falling.

3rd Person POV

Casey ran to the top of the battlements and stood beside Jordan and began firing. The huge slime slammed into a soldier and he went flying, breaking his bones upon contact. That was when the flying creepers attacked. The archers fired volley of arrows, taking down a huge amount of creepers. Some reached the battlements and blew up, killing archers and soon there were no archers left on the battlements other than Casey and Jordan.

Jordan nocked an arrow and fired, shooting down every creeper. Another arrow disintegrated the slime, which had already consumed a dozen soldiers. A block of TNT came sailing over and blasted Jordan away. He was flung onto the battlefield. Another explosion knocked Casey down. A huge creeper landed on the battlements and slowly moved towards the unconscious Casey. As she awoken, she stared directly into Sikrali's face.

"Miss me?"

Jake POV

I sawed as fast as I could at the ice holding my legs to the ground. The temperature slowly dropped and I was shivering a little already. The sword barely even made a cut and The Beast just watched as I uselessly sawed as the temperature dropped lower and lower. By the time I was halfway done with one foot, I was shivering and I couldn't feel my hands, legs and other parts. My hands were turning blue and I felt ice form on my face.

I finally sawed through one foot and I cheered. Until I realised I couldn't. I started sawing but my hands were too numb and the sword fell. I collapsed and curled into a ball before reaching for my sword and tried to cut again. No use. I didn't have enough strength. Freezing to death in the Nether. What could be more ironic? The creature nudged me and my legs started freezing and the ice spread up my body. I made a desperate lunge for my sword and tried to cut through the spreading ice but to no avail. The ice started freezing my neck and I made one last desperate stab. The ice froze over my face.
