Katara

About twelve minutes into our little date it became clear that both of us had absolutely no idea what we were doing. The only experience I've had would be when I occasionally shared a meal with Yue back in the human world, but sharing a meal with Azula was a lot more intense.

"So Azula do you think I can ask you something? That is if it's okay." She seemed relieved that I decided to say something and break the awkward silence surrounding us.

"Of course Katara ask me anything."

"Alright then, why choose me?"

"Excuse me?"

"When you were in the human world you could have easily found one of the great masters to take, but instead you choose me."

A few moments of silence passed as she contemplated the answer to one of the major questions that have been plaguing my mind these last few hours.

"You're spirit"

"Huh?"

"In all my time as ruler no one has been brave enough to challenge me or even attempt to openly defy me. That is until I met you. For the first time somebody was brave enough to fight me. Even when you first came here you were still defiant, but that's just one of your many qualities that interest me."

Wow, honestly didn't expect that for an answer. I thought she would have just said she was low on time and grabbed the first person she came across.

"My turn for a question, do you miss your home?"

Did I? I mean I defiantly miss my idiot brother and my friend Yue but other than that is there anything I really miss?

"Not really, in fact I'm actually glad to be away from there."

"And why's that?"

"When you found me in the oasis I was actually trying to hide from somebody. You see he had asked my father for my hand in marriage and my dad couldn't say yes fast enough."

"Do you love him?" her voice was small and quick but I still caught it.

"No in fact I'd turned him down a few times but he didn't take no for an answer." she smiled like this was a good thing.

"Alright I do believe it's your turn to ask" she said with amusement in her voice.

Wait, what to ask about? I don't really know much about her other then what she and Ty lee have told me. I know she at least is interested in me... and if I'm being honest I'm interested in her.

"Okay Azula we've talked about my love live now tell me about yours."

"Very well, you Katara are the only person I have ever pursued romantically."

"What?"

"I said you're the only person I've ever been on a date with." To say that surprised me would be an understatement. Personally I thought she would have gone on at least one. But then again if she said no then it was probably a good idea to accept it and not press your luck. After that question we decided to enjoy our meal with casual conversation instead of personal questions so we didn't step on thin ice.

When we finally finished she took me by the hand and led me through the palace and onto one of the giant balconies where she transformed into her dragon form and told me to hop on. I was a bit cautious seeing as last time I rode in her claws, but this time she titled her head down so I could ride on her neck and hold on to her horns. The moment I was on she took off into the sky making me scream in terror. As we settled above the cloud lines she let out a small chuckle no doubt amused by my scream so I gave her head a smack.

"You could have warned me!" but the only response I got was another chuckle. As we flew and got farther from the palace I saw just how vast and different the spirit world was from the human world. I'd heard rumors that this world had rules all their own and now I saw it was true, where at first I thought I saw stars in the night were actually giant glistening spirits moving incredibly slowly across the sky. Suddenly and definitely without warning she went into a nose dive and started falling toward a massive cave in the side of a giant mountain. All I could do was scream as the cave got closer and closer all the while I was thinking that there was no way she could make it at these speeds not to mention all the sharp turns and pointy rocks. I don't know how we survived or even how she managed to get us here without losing an ounce of speed but when we did land I hugged the ground as she turned back and started laughing.

" I swear you and Ty lee have the same reactions about flying. Now come on this place holds a very special secret that you have to see."

First chance I get I'm going to kill her... that is if she wasn't my ride back to the palace.

As we walked I took in the surroundings of the cave but really what caught my eye were the glowing crystals imbedded in the walls. Each one was a different color that got brighter when we got close, all around me were reds and blues, reds, yellows even a few orange and purples.

"Come on it's just down here" I had no idea what she wanted to show me but from the way she was acting it must have been pretty important. It was when she led me down one of the tunnels when I saw it. At the end of the tunnel was three giant mirror like crystals lined up side by side.

"Welcome to the crystal mirrors. One of the ancient and mysterious places in the spirit world."

"What do they do?" I ask as I run my hand over the farthest one from the left. The moment my hand makes contact the mirror glows and my reflection vanishes and is replaced by an image of Yue and Ty lee.

"That's the mirror of friends, it shows who you're true friends are." I touched the middle next and watched as it showed a picture of Sokka along with my father and a ghostly version of my mom.

"The mirror of family shows you're family even if they're no longer with us." I didn't move on to the third but instead decided to take in my mother's image for as long as I could.

I nearly forgot what she looked like after all these years.

I tried to hold back the tears but after seeing my family reunited if only in a crystal mirror brought a lot of old memories to the surface. What I didn't expect was for Azula to wrap her arms and me and pull me into her chest as I wept. For a few moments we just stood there to absorbed in what the other was doing to move.

"Thanks for that" I saw wiping my face clean.

"Don't mention it, now you might not want to see the future mirror it can be pretty hard to understand."

"Why's that?"

"Sometimes it shows the future that needs to happen and sometimes it shows the future that you want to happen. It's hard to say which one will be the one to actually happen." Her warning aside I decided to give it a try and touched the final mirror. Instead of one image there were two. The one on the left showed me dressed in a exquisite blue gown as I walked toward Azula and a smiling Ty lee that stood behind her. On the other it showed me walking out of the portal with a sad expression on my face. Aang and my family were there to welcome me but I just kept looking at the portal until it closed.

Wait which one was which? And does that mean I actually want to be with Azula or that I really want to go home?

When I looked to Azula for some kind of answer she only shrugged which told me she had no idea either. But if what she said was true then one of these was my future but the real question is which one?
