Chapter 10: Halloween to Remember
Everyone was heading down to the feast but Elizabeth still sat on her bed, nose stuck in a book. She was also muttering to herself earning odd looks from Allysa.
"Ellie..." Natalie started.
Elizabeth looked up to see Natalie with crossed arms and Allysa french braiding her dark hair. Natalie sighed impatiently to see Elizabeth's confused face.
"The Halloween Feast," she explained. "Everyone's heading down."
"Oh." Elizabeth blinked.
She snapped the book shut and put it under her bed, hiding it from the view of the other two. She didn't want them to find out about what was going to happen, it had to be a surprise. The two merely rolled their eyes thinking she was trying to protect her favourite book and stood by the door.
"Where is Ash?" Allysa asked when they were out of the common room.
"She was just finishing up some studying in the library." Elizabeth told her. "Said she'd watch the time and be down."
"Oh, okay." Allysa nodded.
The three were walking down when Fabian and Gideon ran up to them excitedly. Elizabeth sent a frown their way as they grinned at her, motioning for her to follow them.
"The twins want me for something," she told them. "I'll be back in a bit."
The two nodded and plodded on, talking about the feast. Elizabeth hid a small smile as she heard a seventh year passing by saying it would be the 'same old feast'.
She reached Fabian and Gideon who pulled her along towards an abandoned classroom. Ashley was standing inside, where she had apparently been waiting.
"So, we are going to go over this again." she announced.
Fabian, Gideon and Elizabeth groaned loudly at Ashley who frowned at the three who stood before her.
"Oh come on," Fabian started.
"We've been over this nearly a hundred times!" Gideon complained.
"More like a thousand." Elizabeth corrected.
"A Million," Fabian nodded.
"A billion." Gideon joined in.
"A trillion." Elizabeth said.
Ashley glared at the three and she picked up her wand, pointing to it while saying,
"I think we really need to review what the message will say."
"Why?" Fabian asked.
"It's just fine how it is." Gideon told her.
"Exactly, I'm not going to mess this thing up which we have been working for weeks on!" Ashley said. "Ellie and I, I'm sure you two as well, have been missing handing in homework because of this."
She seemed to be ranting on and The three stared at her. Again, the twins attempted to say nothing was wrong.
"No, I think Ash is right." Elizabeth broke in. "Something IS missing."
The twins whom were a bit annoyed, sighed. The four stood there for a bit, mulling over what could be missing from their awesomely crazy and weird plan they had created.
"I know!" Fabian exclaimed after a bit.
"What?" The other three asked eagerly in unison.
"I was thinking about a nickname." Fabian told them.
"A nickname?" Ashley asked, confused.
"Yea, for our group." Gideon nodded, catching on.
"So what should it be?" Elizabeth wondered aloud.
"I've got an idea," Gideon said. "It should be-"
All the students were in the Great Hall, enjoying the feast. Everyone was chatting about one thing or another while four students sat with their heads together.
Three of them waved their concealed wands at the ceiling whilst grinning at each other. Then, orange and black confetti flew from the ceiling flying itself around the students. Everyone watched the confetti as it lined up near the doors, creating words.
"Happy Halloween to all. -The Marauders." It read.
There was a huge explosion from it before some lollies fell down on the students, everyone grabbed one or two.
Soon after everyone ate one, the lollies changed a certain part of their body such as their hair, eyes, nails, or skin to a different colour. Some people were shrieking at their appearances, while others laughed at them.
The four laughed at the students, having not had any change to their own appearance. Four other students down the table were now muttering amongst themselves as they stared at the lollies.
As everyone sat full from the feast, Fabian and Gideon waved their wands. Elizabeth looked at them and they nodded at her.
She waved her own wands and the lights dimmed considerably. Everyone looked around confused at the lighting while others thought that meant the feast was finished and tried to get up. A loud bang stopped them however.
Suddenly, the pumpkins which had floated around the Great Hall started flying towards the doors and everyone watched them. They were all confused about what was happening. Was the prank continuing? No one knew for sure.
Then, the pumpkin in the very middle began to speak, it's eerie glow portraying from its mouth into the darkened room.
"You may have expected a peaceful Halloween, though these Marauders have ruined that I suppose." the pumpkin said in a deep voice. "However, expect to remember this Halloween."
Suddenly, loud screams filled the room and people looked around. No one could find where they were coming from, they just seemed to be coming through the walls. A voice that seemed to be begging loudly filled the room.
"Please, Please have mercy!"
Then a scream pierced right after and something wet dripped onto every student, making them look around in terror. Cackling sounded from the pumpkins, everyone watched as they did so.
Then the doors boomed open and everyone's attention shifted to them. In came the ghosts of Hogwarts, all of them seemed to be glad to play the role as they soared, screeching terribly. The Bloody Baron was particularly scary with his chains making sounds. Nearly Headless Nick made an amazing display of his head as he zoomed about, making terrifying faces.
Suddenly everything stopped, the ghosts lining up at the back and silence ensued, only for a moment though.
Fireworks burst out of nowhere, filling the hall up with their loud booms and bright light. Everyone watched, amazed as it burst out the pictures of the teachers' faces. The funniest ones were Professor McGonagall looking shocked. The last one was Professor Dumbledore, smiling unlike the other teachers and a twinkle showed in his eyes.
The lights lit up once again, and sparks from the Professor Dumbledore's picture rose together into words. It read,
"Here's a treat which we promise isn't bad. Enjoy! - The Feral Jokers."
The pumpkins exploded into many candies, crashing down on people. The braver, riskier and candyholics were the ones who are them first. When nothing happened to them, the others slowly ate as well.
Clapping and cheering came up from everyone.
"Go Marauders! Go Feral's!" people chanted.
All eight grinned at their group members, though slightly confused by the other group. Everyone knew that this was indeed a Halloween to remember.
The days passed by quickly and everyone seemed to be talking about the two groups. The Marauders had obviously done pranks before, but since the Ferals came along, they wondered how the Marauders would react.
People were clearly excited for the reaction from the Marauders as people seemed to sit in the edge of their seats, waiting for a prank of some sort to appear or any tell-tale sign.
The days dragged on through November and nothing really came. December arrived and students -plus a few teachers- started to get into the Christmas cheer. Mistletoes hung in different places, an excuse for others to kiss someone. Needless to say, many people became couples during this period of time.
Allysa seemed to always veer closer to the mistletoes when she spotted Ryan King, a Sixth year Gryffindor. Her three friends would laugh at this many times making any passing students looked at them weirdly.
One rather boring day on the last day of November, or the thirtieth, Elizabeth was stroking Tommy on her bed. She thought about how time seemed to fly by so fast and how so many things had happened since the beginning of the year.
She had so many best friends and had been welcomed so nicely, which she thought of the Gryffindor's roars as she had sat down. A warm feeling spread through her and she a smile graced her lips.
"Uh, Ellie?" Ashley asked.
Elizabeth shook her head, stopping her thoughts of the past and focusing on what as happening in the present time.
"Yea?" she questioned.
"Why were you smiling like a creepy person?" Ashley asked curiously.
"I don't know, sometimes my body takes over itself." Elizabeth responded.
"Weird." Ashley stated.
"Yep." Elizabeth nodded.
Suddenly the doors banged open and Natalie stood there, tears flowing down her cheeks. Elizabeth's eyes widened and looked at Allysa who had followed behind questionably. Allysa simply had a worried face on and stared, half scared at Natalie. Ashley stepped up and hugged Natalie in a comforting way while Elizabeth placed forth a question,
"What happened?"
This promptly sent Natalie into more tears and she hugged Ashley tighter, making Ashley glare at Elizabeth. Elizabeth shrugged, perplexed and looked back at Natalie.
"FANG-GONE-FOREST." Was all the two could make out.
"Fang ran into the forest after a rabbit and we can't find him." Allysa explained.
"Oh." Elizabeth muttered.
"Yea." Allysa nodded, biting her lip.
"Ok, I'll go get Hagrid and find the pup. You two," Elizabeth pointed at Allysa and Ashley. "Will stay here and comfort Natalie."
Elizabeth grabbed her cloak and put it on. She headed towards their dorm door on her way out, but Ashley stopped her.
"I'm coming too." She said.
"But-"
"Ellie, I need some sort of adventure. Sitting here reading gets boring after a while. Besides, one person can take care of another but one can not go into that forest alone."
Ashley started to pull on her cloak while Elizabeth sighed, uttering a small 'Fine'. The two then started their journey down to Hagrid's. However, Elizabeth started to walk right past Hagrid's making Ashley call her back.
"Ellie, where are you going?"
"To the forest."
"We have to get Hagrid!"
"He's all the way in the Great Hall do you seriously expect us to go running up there?"
"Yes. We aren't going in there without someone who knows the forest."
"Who said I didn't know it?" Elizabeth asked mischievously.
Ashley stared at her blankly and the two just had a staring contest. Elizabeth's grin wavered a bit when Ashley started to screech at her.
"WHAT?! YOU COULD HAVE DIED!"
"Uh...Ash?"
"PUTTING YOUR LIFE IN DANGER!"
"You know I was joking, right?"
"I CAN'T-oh."
The change was strange and she was suddenly calm, staring at Elizabeth. Elizabeth just rolled her eyes at Ashley and started to speak once again.
"I have another half who should know the forest better than me." she told Ashley.
"Who? Your brother? James?" Ashley asked.
Elizabeth laughed at that, James, her other half? It would have been funny if he was her other half, whom she could become in an instant. However, Elizabeth was getting a bit nervous about what might happen after she revealed what she was.
To answer Ashley's past question, Elizabeth shook her head with a smile aimed at her best friend. The girl in question just frowned at Elizabeth.
What did she mean by other half then? Did Ellie secretly have a twin who was great at tracking things? If so, that would have seriously helped them in their current predicament. These thoughts ran through Ashley's mind.
Instead, Elizabeth did something Ashley totally didn't expect, she leapt at Ashley. Ashley thought Elizabeth had gone insane for a moment and attempted to dodge the girl, which she didn't succeed at.
As the two plummeted to the ground, Ashley closed her eyes and waited for impact. She hit the ground and lay there, groaning for a bit. She had suddenly felt less weight upon her, though there still was a bit. Ashley opened her eyes and came face to face with a small snout. Ashley screeched and pushed the creature off of her before scrambling up. Then, she realized she was alone.
Where had Ellie gone?
"I'm going to kill you for leaving me here Elizabeth Potter!" she shouted.
The creature on the ground started to whimper and Ashley looked down at it, remembering it was there. It was just a fox, a simple little fox. Ashley frowned at it, why was it not running away like most wild animals did? Then she realized it was pawing the ground. It was actually writing something, writing! Sure, Ashley had heard foxes were intelligent; yet she didn't know they were this intelligent. She read it aloud.
"I am Ellie you dummy. I'm an animagus."
Ashley vaguely remembered Professor McGonagall saying she was an animagus after turning into a cat and then back into her human form.
"You got to be joking..."
However, the look on the fox's face(if fox's could have expressions), clearly told her otherwise.
"Sweet Circe." Elizabeth said, using wizard language for the first time.
A.N Ah! Look! The Prank! I had this whole thing with the Knight's coming in but I decided that was a bit more professional for the little kids. Instead of the Knights, I replaced them with the ghosts coming in. They simply had to ask as I expect the Ghosts wanted to be recognized and enjoy being scary. Especially Nearly Headless Nick.
The pumpkins, they would have done an easy explosion charm, Bombarda which was used by Hermione in the third book/movie. They cast a protective spell on the candies so they wouldn't be harmed from anything such as the explosion.
For the dripping part they would have used the Aguamenti spell, made the timing be held somehow.
I hope I made it realistic for their age. I tried to move it down a bit. As you can see, the Marauders didn't do as great a prank because they, in my opinion, we're a bit laid back about it while the other four were working as hard as they could, practicing and practicing. Also, two of them are a year older than the Marauders so would have more experience.
Hope you enjoyed this chapter!
Elizabeth has revealed her secret to Ashley...what will happen next? (Cackles evilly) You shall see next week!
There were no reviews but, nevertheless! Is that really one word? Wow, weird. Anywho, nevertheless! Thank you for reading and following. It is appreciated :D
