"Mathias, Berwald! You guys just made it!" Anton yelled as the two entered the cabin.
"Made what?" Mathias asked flustered.
"You're just in time to join us! We're going to the mall to get some pizza at the pizzeria there! It's like, the biggest and most awesome pizzeria I've ever heard of!" Anton exclaimed.
"Heard of" Arthur remarked.
"We don't know for sure if it's as awesome as he says it is" He added.
"Awe, you're such a skeptical freak. Have some fun once in a while, would you" Gilbert pried.
Mathias and Berwald stood there, wet and dripping, wondering how to avoid this argument. They started to head for their room, both flustered and embarrassed. They were, still somewhat in denial of what had happened earlier and of how fast it had happened.
"Did you two take a bath?"
Lucas stern and questioning voice was recognized and the two teens stopped and stood dead still with their backs to him. Mathias mind was filled with "oh no, oh no, oh no, what should I say!" and things like that, while Berwald's mind, for once, was completely blank like an unused white paper. They waited in silence, hoping that the shorter teen would disappear in the thin air for a moment.
"Was it cold?" Lucas asked.
"Yes it was!" Mathias suddenly exclaimed, taking no more time to get to the bedroom. He opened the door quickly, leaving Berwald alone in the hallway.
"Uh, very cold" Berwald insisted. His mind was still completely blank, but at least those words had managed to come out of his mouth. Lucas raised an eyebrow at the still remaining teen's behavior, not to speak of Mathias's. He stared for a while, and then, just as Mathias had done, the Swede suddenly moved quickly and disappeared into the bedroom.
"Weirdoes" Emil muttered from the sofa with a smile. To this, even Anton, Arthur and Gilbert shut up, and Jan looked away from the TV. They all looked at the wet spots on the floor, but eventually the silence was broken.
"Did they just get back from a swim?" Jan asked.
"A very cold one, it seems" Lucas muttered. He shook his head as he joined his brother on the sofa.
"Well anyway, I'm not waiting much longer before going to that pizzeria" Anton stated again.
"Oh come on!" Arthur exclaimed, and the two began arguing again.
Inside the bedroom, completely different things were going on.
The Dane changed into a pair of ordinary boxers and pants, uneasily, as he knew Berwald was watching. Or, rather, he thought. As for the same, Berwald thought that too the other way around as he was changing.
Mathias took a towel to dry his hair, and tossed his wet swimming trunk outside. It would likely dry there just as fast as any other place in the cabin anyway. Berwald, half dressed, noticed how his friend stressed and tried to speak up, but he couldn't get himself to do it. He was too embarrassed, if not even more embarrassed than him.
He swiftly took on a thin dark blue sweater that somewhat matched his blackish pants. The Dane finally stopped stressing as he managed to find his own black t-shirt. He took it on, catching Berwald's stare a he did. He felt a slight hint of nervousness occupy him once again, but it disappeared as the Swede stood up and went to get something in his bag. He squatted down, opening a jacket zipper or something- Mathias couldn't see.
A few seconds and a grunt later, Berwald lifted his hand up and made a sound of triumph as he found the object he was searching for.
A wallet? That was what Berwald fished up from his bag. Mathias stared at it. Was he seriously thinking of joining the others!? Pizza was great and all, but honestly he wanted to be as far away from anyone as possible. Joining the group would only lead to questions which he had no legit answers to!
Berwald knew that stare when he saw it. He sighted, guessing he had to speak now anyway and stood up, facing Mathias.
"Come on, it's only for this evening." He said. He was hungry, and honestly the pizzeria sounded decent enough. Besides, he had always wanted to take him to a restaurant and the pizzeria was close enough.
"But what if they ask about what we were doing?" Mathias asked. He bit his lip nervously.
"We were completely alone, Mathias" Berwald reassured him, walking closer to the Dane.
"And so what if someone saw. They shouldn't have anything against it" he added, getting close enough to hug him and embracing his Mathias. Mathias smiled for a second, finding Berwald's optimism reassuring. He was right too, no one should have anything against it… but some people might not want to see those kinds of things they did. He blushed at the thought.
"Okay then" he sighted.
They both stood there in silence, warming each other in the embrace. It was after a few seconds of his heart going seriously crazy and stroking his own hands up and down Berwald's toned back muscles that Mathias found himself daring enough to give the Swede a peek on the cheek. It felt strange, but also a bit good at the same time. He smiled, finding Berwald's ice blue eyes and he almost laughed when he saw Berwald's big blush. He leant forwards, giving him a firm kiss on the mouth. He could almost feel his own life get patched up and put together from pieces as he did.
Outside the bedroom the others were getting ready to leave, and Jan, without thinking, opened the door to tell the two others.
"Yo, we're leaving now so hurry…uhh… up"
Jan froze after opening the door, and after a few seconds of intense staring, the pot smoking teen regretted not knocking before opening. He was almost paralyzed but soon had to drag on a smile as Mathias blurted out numerous of apologies and overall acted like someone caught masturbating.
"H- Hi" Berwald stuttered. He tried to keep a straight face, but he had to admit, this was rather embarrassing. Caught kissing another boy, how could it get any worse?!
Jan closed the door behind him and stood still in front of it, waiting for the two to start acting like normal again. he guessed it was like he had thought earlier then, but he just couldn't see how having sex in a room so close to so many people without locking the door was possible for anyone. Or were they just kissing and not planning on having sex at all? He shrugged, not that it mattered to him.
"You're not telling!" Mathias finally managed. He almost hid behind Berwald.
"Don't worry, I'm all mysterious and shit for you guys, man" he replied.
Mathias sighted, relieved. Berwald felt relieved too, but he managed to keep it more hidden.
"S- So, we're going out then" Mathias stuttered after thinking for a few seconds.
"Yeah, seems like we are" Jan answered. He opened the door, gesturing for the two to leave. Mathias cleared his throat, blushing like hell, and Berwald followed after, just as red.
The group of boys walked in a hurried pace, most to keep up with Anton who was going pizza crazy. Berwald and Mathias walked at the back, being a bit slower than the others, but still managing to keep up with them. And it wasn't exactly because they were slow that made them end up in the back anyways. The path towards the mall was almost overgrown with tall green grass that seemed like something you could just throw yourself down on without feeling a thing. And, because of that, Mathias tried to make the Swede stumble, sticking out his foot in front of him and tripping him.
But no matter how many attempts at tripping the Swede and failing, Mathias soon found himself to be staring at the entrance to the pizzeria in the middle of the mall. It wasn't really huge or anything, but rather small and cozy.
The group of boys split up, soon finding themselves to be sitting with the ones they preferred. Lucas and Emil had (after a bit of bickering) seated themselves with Berwald, Mathias and Jan, something the three didn't mind. Mathias felt a bit weird about it, though. Since he hadn't really talked with the two siblings in two years or so… And Jan was a childhood friend he hadn't really talked with so much either, although he had shared his precious "tobacco" and probably wanted to patch up old ties again. So far, this felt like a sort of 'reunion' to the spiky haired Dane. The two siblings had several times tried to have a conversation with him, and even if it didn't seem so, the two were probably trying really hard to gain his trust or friendship or whatever they were trying to do.
The table they were sitting at was round and big enough for the group on five. The seats on the other hand was a crooked sofa that bended around the table, and of course, behind the sofa were high walls that separated all the tables from each other, giving them a pleasant amount of privacy. This also made all of them able to see every face in the group.
"So…" Lucas started. Awkwardly picking up a menu he coughed.
"We split the bill, right?" He finally asked.
Mathias looked to Berwald who nodded along with Emil and Jan.
"Wonderful" the teen responded.
After a good five minutes of discussing, the group managed to agree on what pizza they should order. In the end, it became an ordinary pizza with just cheese and beef on.
The silence that came after they had ordered was beyond embarrassing to the blond Dane. Berwald was sitting as silent as he could to the right to him, but Jan, who was sitting to his left, kept elbowing him ever so lightly while wiggling his eyebrows. This was an act Mathias could have wished only five year olds could manage to put up. He really didn't need Jan spoiling his and Berwald's little secret right now, and Lucas and Emil were beginning to look at him weirdly!
Mathias made a fake laugh as he not so gently elbowed Jan back as a warning, leaving the taller man breathless for a second.
"Stop it" he whispered.
"Never" Jan taunted breathlessly.
Berwald, disturbed by the two other teen's sighted, giving Emil and Lucas who were looking weirdly at them a fake smile.
"You fucking promised, man" Mathias whispered as he tried to protect his own ribs from Jan's sharp elbow.
"I don't care" Jan whispered back, stone faced as ever.
"Hey Lucas, Mathias and Berwald ar-mpfhhmpmf!" Jan tried, but Mathias covered his mouth with his hand just fast enough, stopping him.
To this Lucas raised an eyebrow and Emil nearly laughed.
"I get what this is about" Emil exclaimed, leaning backwards with a smile as he realized the situation. Lucas, still confused looked at his brother questioning.
"They're what?" Lucas questioned.
Emil laughed, Berwald blushed and Mathias tried to keep his taller friend from spilling the truth like no tomorrow as he blushed like hell. There was no shame in his and Berwald's relationship, but honestly, Berwald and he hadn't even declared themselves as anything more than friends yet to one another, giving neither one of them allowance to say that they were indeed boyfriends now. Couldn't they just wait at least a bit longer and declare themselves boyfriends to each other before Jan would tell the whole wide world!? Mathias asked himself in his mind.
Berwald, even if it didn't look like it, felt exactly the same way. He also thought that pressing the Dane up to a wall with no other people around as he told the Dane how much he loved him was a decent way to claim himself as his boyfriend.
Although, it looked like all of them knew now, besides Lucas, and he guessed it wasn't worth the effort anyway, so pushing all his nervousness away and collecting courage, the Swede shamelessly leant towards Mathias and gave him a kiss on the cheek that was visible for everybody to see.
Mathias silenced, blushed, then let go of Jan and let the teen breathe again as he felt a storm of nervousness fly over him.
"Err, yeah" Mathias slurred.
"Oh" Lucas mouthed, wide eyed. Emil laughed. He had figured out how things really were between Mathias and Berwald as soon as the two had entered the cabin they stayed at blushing like hell and were silent for once, but his brother, so intelligent yet so stupid at the same time, was stunned. Jan only snickered and leant back lazily. He might have promised Mathias that he wouldn't tell, but come on! It was pure gold to see his reaction.
Mathias looked like a kicked puppy as he looked at Berwald and Berwald, looking like a kicked puppy too, blushed even more as he adjusted his glasses as a distraction.
"Good to see you two finally hooked up" Lucas finally said, smiling.
Mathias looked at him, honestly a bit shocked.
"You mean that?" he asked, speaking for Berwald too.
"Sure" Lucas shrugged his shoulders, but then he furrowed his eyebrows.
"But now I owe that shit Anton five bucks" He muttered. Mathias amazed and confused looked questioning at him. Had he and Anton, the boy Lucas nearly hated, made a bet about him and Berwald getting together!?
"You two bet?" Berwald asked amazed.
"Almost everyone did" Emil said, smiling a devilish smile.
"You… what… was it that obvious!?" Mathias asked.
"Believe me when I say this Mathias- the amount of gay emerging from you two is stronger than the sun's rays in Sahara" Lucas said, as in matter of fact-ish. Mathias and Berwald both looked offended for a few seconds, taking in the information.
"Well…th'ts nice to know" Berwald mumbled.
"Don't take it badly, but one can't avoid those looks you two give each other" Lucas muttered, finding his phone very interesting suddenly.
"If you say so" Mathias laughed nervously.
Under the table Berwald's hand moved towards Mathias's hand, slowly tangling them together, to which Mathias responded with a shy smile to. The others didn't notice this, though it was probably for the best. Mathias was glad the others didn't find it disgusting as he had thought for a second, though. He knew his worries were for no reason now.
As soon as the pizza was put down on the table, the boys were over it, being hungry and over all exhausted. At least Mathias and Berwald had a reason for it.
The pizza was swallowed down together with huge amounts of soda, and after nearly an hour and half, the five teens were full and laughing like never before. What they were discussing wasn't important, what mattered was, that finally, after years of feeling hated- Mathias finally felt loved. Not only by Berwald, but the others seemed to like him too. Finally it felt like everything was settling, every piece that was missing in the puzzle was found and put in place again.
"Dad, what should I do?" Henrikk asked. He was sitting in a dark room, shielding himself from any human nearby.
"If you can't convince them, then I don't know, son. Don't you have anything in mind, something that can help" The man answered.
"I brought my gun" Henrikk replied after a while, feeling proud as he told him.
"Good. Then you can SCARE them" the man answered. Henrikk smiled.
"You will do anything to stop those two from doing more sins, Henrikk. Don't let me down this time!" The man added. Henrikk smiled wider, weighting the weapon in his hand.
"Sure thing, dad" he replied. Then he hung up. might be he didn't have his old gang anymore, maybe hiding in the dark was a pathetic excuse for a man, but it would all end soon. He wouldn't let Mathias and Berwald make people laugh at him anymore and he had an excellent idea that would stop the two fags' life. He would be the one laughing now.
"No one messes with me" Henrikk muttered as a devilish smile crept up on his face.
The five boys had finally left the pizzeria and had (in pure excitement) headed to the huge candy store that was there. Mathias noted the time, knowing that the mall was only up till ten in the evening at this place. His eyes fell on Berwald who was holding a Popsicle shaped like a heart and he smiled, finding it to be almost too adorable.
"You plan on actually buying that one?" He asked. Berwald just looked at him with an expressionless face and then nodded. It was a bit embarrassing to buy a thing like that to a man, but it wasn't like he was the one who was going to eat it. It was supposed to be a sort of gift to Mathias.
"You like strawberry flavor, right?" He asked the Dane.
"Yeah… Why?" Mathias asked.
"Because it's for you" The Swede answered.
Mathias smiled, and then he giggled.
"Oh my God, You're serious, aren't you?" He asked after the Swede had glared at him.
"Yes" Berwald answered.
"Oh"
Mathias laughed again as a blush formed on his cheeks.
"That's too sweet of you Berwald" He insisted, still smiling. Berwald poked his cheek with the Popsicle, making a serious expression.
"No it's not" He argued, feeling a smile grow.
Mathias (after escaping the nearly too affectionate Swede) soon found himself standing in front of the chocolate section in the store, searching for a thing he could give Berwald. He knew Berwald was a sweet tooth too, so he guessed white chocolate would be perfect.
A few rows away, Lucas and Emil were bickering again, trying to make the hard decision surrounding the question "Chocolate or more chocolate?"
Jan, being more confused than ever and still (after two hours) stoned, was studying the life out of a bag of candy that was saying it was 'one hundred percent marijuana' but that didn't look like marijuana at all.
In the end, the teens nearly robbed the store for all its candy, planning on bringing some of it back home to Denmark too. It was nearly comical how much candy the two siblings in the group had bought. The two had to take turns on carrying the heavy, almost overflowing plastic-bag they had.
Mathias, Berwald and Jan had only one bag each that was half full, but it still looked comical.
Mathias sighted as they walked back to the cabin that was still half a kilometer away, still happy and excited. There was something that told him life couldn't get better as his hand nearly brushed Berwald's as they walked side by side in the back.
I love you
The three words lingered on his tongue, but he didn't say them, just continued to walk. He could always wait.
To slump back on the sofa when they came back after the walk was like heaven. He didn't even care about taking off his shoes, nor did he care enough to put the things he had bought away. He watched as Berwald excused himself to go to the bathroom and pouted, wanting the Swede to lie down next to him. The two siblings went upstairs, bickering about whom was going to take the bag, and Jan quickly left them to sit on the roof.
Mathias automatically checked his watch, seeing as it was starting to get late and the sun was almost down. Not that it actually went down, but it was as far down as it would get at this time of the year. He sighted when he saw that it was only an hour till midnight. Listening closely he could hear that Anton, Arthur and Gilbert were upstairs playing a sort of videogame. He guessed they had probably gone home earlier. To be honest lying on the sofa seemed really boring when he thought of it now.
He sat up, waiting for Berwald to get finished, and as he saw his friend slash whatever he was to him now walk out of the bathroom, he smiled.
"Maybe we could join Jan on the roof just for the fun of it?" Mathias asked. He thought about it as he said it, and somewhere in his own mind he heard something tell him that he really wanted to be alone with Berwald and not with someone else, but he guessed a stoned Jan wasn't that much of a distraction and it was too early to go to sleep already anyway. Right?
"Sure" Berwald mumbled. He was sleepy too, but he figured he was thinking the exact same thing as Mathias. Too early to go to bed now.
The two teens found themselves to be sitting on the roof and leaning against the wall next to Jan shortly after, and Mathias had been right. The teen would be to no distraction at all, since he was already sleeping there with an almost out burned joint in his hand. If Mathias knew him well enough, Jan wouldn't get mad at them if they took what was left of the joint and smoked it themselves; since Jan thought it was a waste of tobacco to just let the rest burn out.
He gently lured it out of his grip and studied it as Berwald watched him. He immediately felt nervous, not because of the joint, but because Berwald was watching and because of the question he wanted to ask.
"You don't think we will actually get stoned by this little, right?" He asked. His voice sounded broken at the end.
"I… I don't know, Mathias" Berwald answered with a stern expression. It wasn't like it was as much as it had been last night, but… he wasn't good at measuring how stoned one would get of anything, really. He looked at Mathias from his left side as he studied the joint, finding him to be more and more attractive for every second that went. It was with almost lust filled eyes he watched with as Mathias put the joint to his lips and inhaled the smoke. A second went and then he exhaled, letting the smoke easily slip past his lips to form a long but thin smoke cloud. Mathias lazily closed his eyes for a few moments and then opened them to stare at the beautiful sunset.
With a short inhale Berwald grabbed hold of Mathias's wrist, stopping the hand that held the joint, and stopping Mathias from putting it back to his lips. Instead Berwald replaced the joint with his own lips, leaning slightly over Mathias as he kissed him slowly. Both teens closed their eyes, neither wanting the kiss to stop. It was after Berwald managed to sneak his tongue into his mouth and make their kiss an open tongue kiss that Mathias eventually dropped the joint, letting it roll down the roof side and down to the ground.
"I love you" Berwald whispered as he pulled back. Mathias's almost lidded eyes opened slightly more at the words, and then he smiled.
"I love you too, Berwald" He said, letting out a short laugh as he looked Berwald in the eyes for the most likely millionth time that day.
"No matter what, I will always love you- no matter the obstacles, Mathias" He said, suddenly serious as ever. He leant in and kissed Mathias, who was slightly taken aback by his sudden seriousness. He closed his eyes though, but his eyebrows were still raised.
Berwald pulled back, moving his hand from gripping Mathias's wrist to holding his hand gently. He caressed it for a while, never letting his gaze off of Mathias's deep, ocean blue eyes.
Mathias tried to say something, but no matter how much he tried, the words wouldn't leave his tongue. The nervousness was long gone, but there was still something in him that held him back. Maybe it was that old stupid fear of Berwald leaving if he said it, but then-
"I love you, and I need you"
Berwald's words were so silent, but yet they were clear as ever. It was all he needed to say to make Mathias's heart jump like crazy and his cheeks redden. Berwald had never felt good with words, but he guessed that meant something.
"I- I love you, and I need you too, Berwald" Mathias stuttered. He tried to find courage to ask Berwald the thing he had been wanting the whole evening and almost since the first time he had meet him, but the words refused to leave his mouth, leaving him gapping like an idiot.
"I'm going to get a chocolate plate we can share" Berwald suddenly said, letting go of Mathias's hand and standing up. They could talk more later, and the idea of making Mathias more talkative with chocolate seemed decent enough.
"Oh, yeah, sure" Mathias answered awkwardly and swallowed hard. Berwald smiled, knowing he had made the Dane completely speechless.
As quickly as he saw Berwald disappear into the cabin, he breathed out loudly.
He banged his head against the wall, cursing lowly for himself.
"Stupide me" He muttered. Why can't I just ask him if we're boyfriends or not!?
He ruffled his own already messy hair and sighted, waiting for Berwald to return, but then something in the neighbor cabin caught his attention. He looked towards it, sure as hell that he had heard a scream come from there. He stared at one of the windows there for a while; soon thinking that it might just had been someone screaming because of something funny or something like that, but then he heard it again, and this time it was as clear as the sky.
It was a loud scream, a girl, and it definitely didn't sound like a scream of joy, more like one out of terror.
"What in the world" He muttered, squinting to see better. Seconds later a door he could barely see flew open and out came several girls and boys running. They seemed like something terrible had happened, but Mathias couldn't understand what was happening. As soon as the flow of people stopped, he waited in silence as he still heard people screaming and running towards the reception.
He wondered; was there something inside the cabin that was dangerous, a man- an intruder?
His eyes widen as he a saw a familiar person step out of the cabin slowly. The silhouette of the teen's shape was dark, and something new about it made it look more frightening than ever. A gun.
Mathias almost jumped at the sight, throwing himself inside as fast as possible, leaving Jan outside still asleep. He looked over the window edge, feeling his own heart race as he saw Henrikk move towards their cabin with the weapon in his hand. Now Mathias understood why his classmates had been running out of the door and screaming; he himself wanted to run out the door and scream! He saw Henrikk look around himself with a grin, and for a second he thought about dragging Jan inside just to be sure, but as Henrikk didn't even look in their direction, he spared himself from the trouble of maybe getting caught and getting them both shot.
He heard someone yell in the distance, something about "Henrikk has lost his mind!" and things like that. He looked at the gun and Henrikk as he walked closer and closer and he was definitely heading towards their cabin!
Mathias ducked, hiding under the window edge. He knew why Henrikk was heading towards their cabin, why he hadn't heard any gun shots yet, why the maniac was smiling!
He was out after him.
There was a bang of nervousness and fear and everything in between that made Mathias unable to move for a few seconds at the realization. He heard his own friends inside the cabin run, probably to hide. Had they already figured out the situation? He heard more yelling from outside, a teacher or someone trying to say something and then two or three loud bangs. His eyes widen in shock.
He heard the door open downstairs and his heart skipped a beat, then, another realization hit him.
Berwald was downstairs.
The time went so fast, yet it went slower than ever as he ran downstairs. He didn't care about Henrikk or his stupid gun as he ran; all he cared about was Berwald. He had to warn him, if he still was there.
He heard a loud bang, immediately turning towards the sound as he reached the bottom of the stairs. He heard a thump and then something that sounded like a scream, a broken one. He knew that familiar sound and he ran into the room where he had heard it come from, stopping dead still in his track as he saw Henrikk holding the gun and pointing it towards something on the floor. His eyes met his, and for a second, Mathias was sure he could see the black haired teen's soul smile a devilish smile. He was frozen, but still his eyes managed to move from Henrikk to the blood covered spot on the floor, and the loved figure that lay in the middle of it.
"N- No" the words barely made it past his lips, but Henrikk heard them.
"Yes" Henrikk grinned.
"You better run, bitch" he added.
Mathias stepped backwards slowly, his eyes still on Berwald that lay completely silent. The words kept repeating themselves. The words Berwald had told him earlier, that he loved him. He almost sunk together, but then he remembered Henrikk and his gun. He couldn't. He had to run.
He heard Henrikk load the gun and at the same second, he ran out the door. He needed to get help, maybe Braginski, or someone else! He tried to run towards the reception, running past several trees, and to his own horror two substitutes that lay in puddles of blood! A loud bang stopped him. Dirt and pebbles flew up from the ground before him, and he turned again. He almost felt his heart stop as he saw the gun pointing directly at him and a loud bang came from it. This time wooden splints flew past him. Mathias almost felt a shock come close as he realized the bullet had been only mere centimeters away from hitting him in the head.
He ran towards the forest, the only place Henrikk wasn't shooting towards yet.
His feet carried him like he was the wind itself as he ran into the almost dark forest. He could hear rapid footsteps following him and sobbed. He felt something hard against his foot and seconds later he found himself falling to the ground. He looked down, finding it to be a root. He tried to get up, but the footsteps were getting closer. He crawled behind a nearby tree quickly, doing everything to keep his own loud breathing at bay. Feeling tears begin to weld up in his eyes, he blinked rapidly and held his hands in front of his mouth.
"I will find you, Mathias!" Henrikk yelled.
The words echoed, making it sound like Henrikk was everywhere and nowhere at the same time. The sound of the gun getting loaded again echoed too, but it gave of a more precise sound, and Mathias quickly understood how close Henrikk really was. He could hear Henrikk's breathing, he was so close.
Mathias looked down, seeing Henrikk's shoes.
"Hi, missed me?"
Mathias yelped, finding Henrikk's eyes to be piercing his. He had a mad smile and leant on the tree. In less than a second, Mathias was up on his feet again to Henrikk's displeasure. He was terrified, close to crying and so close to getting killed, but he couldn't let Henrikk do it. He had to go on. Two shots echoed in the forest and Mathias could feel a slight searing pain in his shoulder as one of the bullets lashed it. He made a sound of distress, looking for any possible escape way. There was a distant sentence repeating itself in his head, telling him to run upwards and higher up. He took an abrupt turn, managing to escape death once again by avoiding a near headshot. The bullet hit one of the many stones that lay scattered around in the forest and that were covered with moss.
Stupid Henrikk, stupid gun, stupid everything! Mathias thought to himself as he ran. He could feel it now as he was gaining distance between him and the mad teen that he was angry, no, furious. If his eyes had told him the truth, then Berwald was dead! Under no circumstances would he allow Henrikk that pleasure without paying for it. There was a second where Mathias stopped running, ready to find whatever objects close to him and beat Henrikk down with it even if the teen had the gun. His eyes searched the moss covered ground, but the second he heard a loud bang again, he continued to run. Letting Henrikk attack with a gun and leaving himself defenseless was stupid. He had to keep running.
"You won't escape this alive, Mathias!" Henrikk yelled at nothing. He was almost fifty meters behind his prey now, boiling with insanity and confusion. So what if he had hurt a few teachers even killed someone - if he let Mathias get away, it would have all been for nothing.
Mathias stumbled over a moss covered rock that he hadn't seen, finding himself to be on the very top of the mountain. The trees had stopped growing several meters away from him, leaving him alone on the almost barren and open mountain top. His mind was blank now, as he crawled backwards, turning his head in every direction to see if Henrikk was close. He had no place to hide, not a single ting to defend himself with, and he had lost everything.
The tears he had been holding back the whole time slowly began to weld up in his eyes again. Without thinking, he leant his back towards one of the many bare rocks in the middle of the open field. His breathing was shallow, and he couldn't hold it anymore. Feeling his own tears run down his cheeks he waited, clutching an insignificant amount of pebbles in his right hand that had blood on it as he tried to hide his face with his left one. He heard the wind howl, felt it ruffle his clothes more.
For a second, all his thoughts were about Berwald, all the nice things he had brought him, how after a so long time he finally felt loved, how he didn't have to worry about how everyone else felt about him, because of him it was all sorted out.
"Berwald" He whispered, clutching the stones in his hand.
The wind howled again, this time bringing the familiar sound of sirens with it. An ambulance, if his ears had told him right. For a second he thought about standing up and continue running, but it was too late.
"So here you are"
Heavy footsteps followed after the words, and Mathias tilted his head up to see a ruffled, crazy looking Henrikk glare down at him.
"You look like a pathetic cry-baby now, you know that?" Henrikk smirked at his own words. His breathing was rushed and obviously the teen was insane.
"If you say so" Mathias answered, looking down. He knew what was coming, but he didn't care anymore. There was no way he could escape anyway, and if he tried his chances of surviving were still below zero. If there was one thing he knew for sure though, was that if there were the sirens of an ambulance he had heard- the people that would find him would know he was dead by the instance.
"Stand up, bitch!" Henrikk yelled suddenly, pointing his gun at the blond. His words echoed, and made every bird that was still singing silence.
Mathias followed the orders, still clutching the pebbles in his hand that was shaking. There was, if he could call it that, a slight comfort in doing that. He didn't know why, but he guessed holding on to anything would sooth him right now. If he thought hard enough, the pebbles soon felt like he was clutching a hand.
"just do it already" Mathias whispered, looking down to his own shoes, his words easily overheard as loud barking could be heard in the distance, coming from the cabin's place.
"This will be a pleasure to do" Henrikk said, as his finger lingered on the trigger. He turned his head towards the not visible cabins for a second, his eyebrows furrowing.
"It's just so funny that even your homo ass fuck-friend put up an even bigger fight than this, Mathias- you truly are more pathetic than that ugly Swede" Henrikk sneered, not looking at Mathias as he spoke, but towards the cabins.
Mathias's eyes widen at those words, feeling rage build up again. At no circumstances was Henrikk allowed to degrade Berwald like that.
"You don't dare call him that!" He bellowed. Without thinking, he threw the many pebbles he had in his hand at Henrikk, managing to hit the teen's eyes and face. Henrikk screamed, trying to get the pebbles out of his eyes.
Mathias strode forwards, angrily punching Henrikk in the jaw. The black haired boy growled, and Mathias flinched as Henrikk tried to hit him but missed. He kicked Henrikk's leg, making the teen stumble to the ground.
"You bitch!" Henrikk screamed, flailing with his gun.
Mathias, taking the last chance he had to get away, started to run after backing away slowly as he saw Henrikk try to get the pebbles out of his eyes. He quickly turned his back to the teen, but before he reached the forest, a loud bang echoed and he could feel a stinging pain go through him. It didn't take him long before he understood what had happened and his eyes widen at the realization. He inhaled sharp enough for it to sound like a gasp, coughed as he fell to the ground on his knees, feeling hollow again. For a second his vision blurred, and all he could hear was the echo of the gun firing.
He clutched his ribs, feeling his hand stick to his sweater due to the liquid that was starting to flow out of him.
His hand trembled as he led it up to his face to see how much blood, and there was a lot. He gasped, tried to breathe, to do anything, but he couldn't get the air down his own lungs.
Berwald, Mathilda, mom, dad…everyone
I'm sorry.
He tried in his mind. Tried to figure out apologies, but there was no use for them. He was dying! He was going to die. His attempts at breathing turned into several exhales, a sort of sulking- a pained one.
"I'm sorry" he managed.
He felt the wind cares him again as he collapsed, but for some reason, the gun's echo still rung in his head and he heard dog barking. Unable to breathe, he sunk together, his vision blurring and his mind eventually going blank. There was nothing stopping him as he lost himself to the darkness.
