Good evening everyone! I watched one good episode of Scandal, and now I am on a writing roll. I can't imagine how inspired I would feel if we had a whole season of great Scandal. But yeah, let's not get our hopes up...
In this chapter, Olivia and Fitz are on the trail (finally!) and will be traveling for a bit. Nothing much happening here, just some talks and campaigning. Where I am trying to go with this (spoiler, LOL!) is for Fitz to turn the public around and vote for him even if he is divorced. I also brought in Sonia Sotomayor (who is a real lady, obviously) as his VP. And an old friend makes an appearance at the end of the chapter :)
I hope you will like it! And P.S. THANK YOU for all your follows and reviews and favorites!
"Good evening, Mr. President. My name is James Smith. I am a junior here at NYU, and I am majoring in political science. I followed your first election very closely, and was very happy that you won. You are behind Governor Reston at the polls now. Do you expect that the public will change their opinions by November, or are you prepared to lose?"
Fitz took a deep breath and drank a little bit of water, trying to collect his thoughts and formulate a good answer. He was at the NYU students' meet-up, a much-delayed heart-to-heart conversation due to all drama and chaos that broke down after Mellie's revelation.
"Jason, first of all, thanks for coming here today to hear me talk. I truly appreciate it. Second, to answer your question: no, I am not prepared to lose. I am prepared for the possibility of not being in the White House next year though"
An echo of gasps raced through auditorium, and he could see his aides, with Olivia at the forefront, squirming and shuffling their feet on the side of the stage where he was talking. It was almost comical and he smiled at James, who seemed to be awe-struck by his nonchalant attitude and answer.
"I definitely don't want to lose. And I will fight until the very end on this campaign, working very hard. But, I am not going to agonize over the outcome of this election, and if the American people believe there is a better candidate than me come November, then so be it. What I will continue to do, as I said, is to work hard, in the remaining months, and hopefully upcoming years, to make this country stronger, better and more stable. So that you, James, and your classmates come into a strong workforce, in need of bright minds like yours, so that when you enter the workforce, you don't have to worry about the mountains of your student debts, so that health care system is adequate to meet your needs, as well as many other reforms. Then, come November, it will be your turn to tell me if the hard work that my administration and I put in is enough for me to be the President of this country for another four years"
Olivia, who continued to stand to the side of the stage, watched Fitz in rapture, as he in turn mesmerized, captured and enthralled the audience. She forgot how wonderful of a speaker he was, how well he could connect to regular Joes and have a heart-to-heart with each and single one of them in a room full of people. She did almost have a heart attack when he talked about losing the election, but his answer to the prospects of becoming the President again was simple and brilliant.
James, the student who asked the question, watched Fitz in fascination, and Olivia knew for a fact that Fitz had the young man's vote in the upcoming election, and probably half of James' class too.
She beamed at Fitz as he turned to his side to give her a subtle look as he touched his wristwatch, wordlessly asking her if they had more time. They had been going two hours strong by now, and she could sense he was getting tired and worn out. She mouthed back "one more minute" before Fitz turned to the crowd and announced "one more question" to the collective "noooooo" from his audience.
Secret Service ushered them all out to the waiting limousine, which was taking them back to their hotel in New York City. Fitz was taking risks by insisting that Olivia was traveling in the limo with him wherever he went, and despite her protests and reasons, she was with him. Fitz was past caring about the image at this point, and would hear nothing about her going to the hotel with the rest of the team.
He gathered her close to his side and inhaled her familiar scent, letting the fatigue settle in.
"How did I do today?" – his quiet question broke their comfortable silence.
"You were really good. No... You were great! I loved how you handled the ratings question, and that other one, about loan forgiveness program. It showed you as a strong, determined, clever politician, which you are!"
"Wow, that's a lot of praise from Olivia Pope herself. I must have rocked it"
"Well, I taught you well…" – Olivia drawled out, before she shrieked with laughter when Fitz lunged at her, biting her neck.
"Fitz, stop! We are in the car…"
"I can see that, miss obvious" – he silenced her protests with his lips, and they made out at the back of the car until they arrived at the hotel, like a couple of teenagers.
After a quiet dinner and shared bath, Fitz found himself sprawled on the bed in the hotel's bedroom, looking through the news on his iPad.
"There is a lot of speculation about my VP spot. I think it is time to announce Sonia"
Olivia walked back into the room, having finished her nightly preparations in the bathroom.
"Fitz, we agreed to wait a little bit longer. She needs to stay behind the scenes, even if she is effectively your Vice President already. Let the chaos of the divorce settle down a bit more"
"Liv, I think it is time to put the divorce behind me. The quicker I do it, the faster people will forget about it and think about my political agenda and reforms, and not the state of my marriage. Plus, she would give me a huge boost on the women's side. So many women will vote for us together"
Olivia huffed and plopped herself down on the mattress, pouting like a five year old.
"Baby, I trust you, and I respect your advice, but please take my lead on this, ok?"
She mumbled OK and settled down on the bed to sleep, facing away from him.
"Livvie, what's wrong?"
When she didn't reply, he knew something was indeed bothering her and scooted closer to her on the other side of the bed. His strong body sent shockwaves through her system. She was completely turned on by watching him on stage being so in command, but she sensed his fatigue and decided to give him some space tonight. Now, feeling him so close and intent on being tender and caring, she was going crazy.
"Nothing Fitz, just go to sleep"
"I can't sleep when you are brooding here right next to me"
She huffed and didn't answer, instead burying her head into the pillow, ashamed to feel her eyes filling with tears. Fitz of course could not just let her be. He found the end of her camisole and sneaked his hand inside, catching her breast and massaging it softly. His hips pressed into her behind, and she could feel the beginnings of his erection pressing into her.
She could not help but moan at his ministrations, but remained stubbornly silent. She almost jumped when she felt his hot breath in her ear.
"Now, you can turn around and tell me what is going on in this head of yours, or you can let me fuck you until you can't think straight and then I will get an answer. I will enjoy the second option much better, but what do you say to talk now, and fuck later?"
Olivia failed to stop the laugh bubbling out of her. She turned on her back and stared into his eyes that grew solemn and dark seeing the beginning of tears in hers.
"Baby, tell me what's wrong. And how did my talk about Sonya bring this all up?"
"It is stupid and inconsequential... But I just don't like her…"
"You don't like her?! Sonia Sotomayor? How you of all people don't like her? She is smart, strong, well-spoken, liberal and very supportive, she is great! She is just like another version of you! I thought you two would get along so well"
Olivia stared at him blankly, and Fitz was at a loss for words until a sudden idea crossed his mind:
"Wait, you are not jealous, are you?"
When Olivia didn't answer but instead shifted her gaze and started squirming beneath him, Fitz knew he hit the bottom of the problem.
"Baby, how are you jealous of her? I mean, she is a great woman, good-looking and all, but don't you know that I have eyes only for you? Hell, my everything is about you and for you, she can be the most glamorous person in the world, but I won't care, because you are my most beautiful girl"
After his ardent declaration, Olivia burst into tears. Fitz really didn't know what to do with her, since he didn't see her cry that much, especially about something so irrelevant as jealousy towards his newly appointed VP. He reclined on his back and drew Olivia closer to his side, rubbing her back and kissing the top of her head as she sobbed into his neck.
When she quieted down and was ready to face him again, Olivia sat up and wiped her tears, her heart melting at the tender smile Fitz was giving her.
"Fitz, I know it's irrational, but I felt stupidly jealous watching you two together. I finally started to feel like you are mine, not completely, not until the divorce is final, but a little bit mine. And I know it is ridiculous, but I am just waiting for the other show to drop. Something will happen and we won't be together again. What if you get bored with me? What if you meet someone funnier, more patient, someone who doesn't drive you insane?"
"Oh Livvie.." - Fitz was at a loss for words to explain to Olivia what she meant to him and how important she was in his life "You still doubt how much I love you? You still doubt that I wake up and fall asleep thinking about you, and if I am not with you, longing to be in your company? There is no one else out there who would change that for me, you have to believe me, baby, and you should not be afraid of that anymore. Can something bad still happen? Of course! But if we fight together, nothing, I swear to you, nothing will keep us apart"
Olivia stared down at Fitz from her position across his lap and traced his handsome features lovingly with her fingers. Ever since she decided to let it go, fight for them, and really be with him and there for him, he managed to destroy another brick surrounding her heart. Not sure who to explain to him how wonderful he was for her, she reached for her camisole and pulled it off her head. When she saw his eyes blazing up in appreciation, she connected their lips and showed him repeatedly and well into the night how good he was for her.
After her third orgasm, she wanted to cave in and sleep, but Fitz caught his second or fifty second wind and would not leg her go. He was over delivering on his promise to fuck her, and was currently pressing into her from behind as she was sprawled on the bed, sheets rumpled and pillow strewn everywhere. Olivia's throat was sore, and she could feel the ache settling in her core, but she welcomed his advances because it felt so damn good to feel him inside her, loving her, taking her over the edge. She cried out when he hit a particular good spot, and her muscles clutched around him, sending him into oblivion too.
Fitz moved reluctantly out and away from Olivia, with her curling into his side immediately. He was sore and exhausted and beyond happy. Apart from being on cloud 9 from amazing sex they just had, he felt great that Olivia was finally talking to him, like he always wanted her to talk to him. They made great strides in their relationship, and he could not wait to finalize the divorce and move to the next stage of his life, post-Mellie.
Olivia murmured a sleepy good night, and her soft snores filled the room almost immediately. Fitz gave her another kiss and pulled the blankets over the naked bodies. It felt great to fall asleep after making love, and knowing that tomorrow in the morning, he would wake up to her sleepy kisses and gentle caresses.
Fitz regretted not divorcing Mellie years ago, he and Olivia wasted so much time of their lives together. He was catching up on it though. Ever since they started the campaign and went on the trail three weeks ago, they have not spent a night apart, and Fitz was the happiest of men.
He made a mental note to himself to call Fredrick and see of there was any development on Mellie front. Olivia was right, it didn't hurt to worry a little bit and prepare for eventual counter-attack of Mellie. She went quiet after her initial divorce announcement and after Fitz brutally and brilliantly destroyed her in one of his first on-the-trail interviews, condemning her for exposing their trouble and making the situation more difficult for the kids. The fact that Karen wanted to live with him, and that Teddy lived with him full time only fueled public's dismay and displeasure of Mellie and her actions. Still, until the divorce was finalized, he needed to keep an eye on her.
Next morning came in too quickly for Fitz. Olivia kept on teasing him that he was an old man, and needed to get more sleep instead of staying up with his girlfriend, and he growled at her and tried to push her away. Olivia brought him some freshly made coffee, and together with strong aroma of the drink, Olivia's teasing words and good-morning kisses, he was finally able to get up and start his day.
Showered and dressed for the day, Fitz was reviewing the last details of his agenda when Olivia got back into the room. She looked nervous and guilty at the same time, and Fitz grew uneasy.
"What's going on"?
"Fitz, there is someone here to meet you"
"Here? In the room?"
"Yes…"
She opened the door further and Fitz was startled to see no one else but Cyrus watching him from the other side of the door.
"Good morning, Mr. President"
Here goes another chapter. Let me know what you think, if you have a moment, please leave a review! :)
