Ravenna POV:
I crossed my arms, sitting on the floor slouching against a boulder, my brows drawn and a scowl twisting my lips.
This was torture.
Imprisoned by people who are my family's eternal enemies is bad enough. But chained and forced to do nothing while they build up their power to defeat my father is pure hell. Even though I can't say Pitch is my favorite person, it doesn't mean I don't feel loyalty to him. "Having fun?" I heard someone say, and when my head twisted to the side I saw it was Jack.
"No," I replied simply, "this is absolute Hell, but even worse, the next thing I'm expecting is for Bunnymund to start singing a Disney song or something" I told him, remembering the kids movies that are ridiculously popular in the mortal realm.
Jack grinned, before tipping his head back and a loud, odd choking sound erupted from his throat. I stared at him, "are you sick?!" And when Jack stared at me in confusion, I said "what was that weird sound you just made?!"
Jack gaped at me. "Haven't you ever seen someone laugh before?" I shook my head, "my father sometimes makes that sort of sound that you did, but his was much more harsh and cruel and-" I suddenly froze. How could I be so stupid to talk about my father?! "Er, I mean no, no I haven't," I told him, trying to avoid giving him enough time to rethink what I just said.
"Are you serious? You've never laughed before?" Jack asked, as if he thought it impossible for someone never to laugh. I stared at him, dead panned. "Do I look like the type of person to laugh or even smile?" Jack glanced at me before looking away, his face thoughtful. "Alright, I've decided that you are my job today" He murmured, and I raised a eyebrow.
"What?"
"It is my job today to make you laugh." Jack smirked and I smirked back. "Yeah, good luck with that frost boy." I said but Jack shook his head. "I'm serious, let's make a deal. If I can't make you laugh at the end of the day you can go. I will set you free." He offered me, and I stared at him, mouth slightly open from surprise.
"You're lying." I accused, "you are ether lying or stupidly confident in your ability to make me laugh!" "No, I promise." Jack said, his blue eyes shining. "Alright then," I decided to let it go, it's not like he's going to win the deal anyway. "And if you make me smile then...?"
"You have to take your mask off."
❄️ Jack POV: ❄️
Ravenna stared at me and even though only her mouth was shown, I could tell her eyes were wide. "My mask?" She repeated, frowning slightly. I nodded, trying to conceal my excitement. I have to admit, my worst trait is my curiosity, and it was agony not seeing her face. What did she look like? What colour was her eyes? Did she have scars on her face she wanted to conceal or something?
"Ok." Ravenna stated, before holding out a shackled hand for me to shake, "but how do I know that you will hold up your end of the deal?" I question her, and Ravenna smirks. "I may be a murderer, but I promise you, I don't break my promises." Ravenna told me, and satisfied, I shook her hand, sealing the deal. "Alright this way!" I exclaimed, unlocking the chain that tied Ravenna to the boulder, and grabbed her wrist, tugging her towards the River Paints where the eggs fell in to be coloured.
I let Ravenna go at the edge of the river, and Ravenna looked at me questionably. "Look! Over there!" I pointed up, and as Ravenna looked up, I shoved her into the river!
Splash!
Ravenna let out a outraged scream like a wolf, spluttering and coughing, struggling to her knees as she glared at me through her mask, her now-wet hair strands sticking to her neck, her face and mask coloured in all different shades and colours. "YOU ASSHOLE!' She roared, before smashing her wrists against the rock, snapping off the chain to her shackles so even though she was still shackled, she was free. But just as I had planned, she was too furious to think about escaping. "Jack!" She bellowed, ignoring the other Guardians laughing heartily at her, scrambling up the slope to me.
I dodged her punch to my face, the heavy shackles on her wrist leaving her clumsier and slower, and I could tell by now she was livid, shaking with rage as I dodged her kicks and punches. "Catch me if you can!" I shouted, flying up into the air. I didn't need to look behind me to check if Ravenna was following me, I knew she was too angry at me to leave without payback.
I swooped and swirled through the air, this time giving Ravenna a chance to catch up with me before ducking out of her reach.
After a couple minutes of this I realised her fury had died a little, and she was starting to see this slightly as a game. I have to admit, she was still admiringly agile for a chained person. "C'mon Ravenna, I thought you were faster then this!" I yelled over my shoulder teasingly, and I could imagine Ravenna rolling her eyes jokingly, "trust me, I could beat you anyway blindfolded if I wasn't shackled!" She shouted. I grinned at her, before flying downwards to land on the ground.
Ravenna immediately flew after me, but before she landed, I threw a snowball at her laughing loudly. Unaware, Ravenna shook her head as soft, white snow splattered her in the face, and as she wiped it off, I pelted her with more snowballs, the ground now covered in thick snow. "Stop it! Hey!" Ravenna yelped, but she was helpless to defend herself as she was shackled, and being pelted with snow.
I laughed, my lips spreading into a grin, as Ravenna struggled to sit up, her raven hair dripping, her face splattered with snow and her clothes still covered with paint, but she was grinning for once, and it occurred to me that I had never seen her actually smile before. She had smirked and sneered, but never done a genuine smile. Then it happened.
She laughed.
Her laugh was hoarse and slightly odd-sounding as she obviously wasn't used to laughing, but her laugh was still light and carefree, making you shiver at the pure sweetness of it and making your own lips stretch into a grin as you listened to it.
Ravenna suddenly stopped, and I smiled down at her. "The deal?" I reminded her, and she nodded slowly, before standing up holding my outstretched hand. As I softly hooked my fingers around the edge of her mask, I suddenly realised how quiet it was. I couldn't hear the shouting of the other Guardians, the scurrying of the eggs, the jingling of the elves. It was strangely quiet, peaceful. Ravenna's skin felt soft and I, for some reason, savoured being so close to her.
I wanted to keep this moment forever, just us. It felt magical.
I held my breath as I started to pull the mask away...
Ravenna POV:
As Jack pummelled me with snowballs, I just didn't feel that mad anymore, I realised that this was just Jack's way of having fun.
But suddenly I felt a odd bubbly feeling in my chest, and my mouth opened, and I laughed. It felt odd and foreign to me, my mouth aching at this unfamiliar movement, but I loved it! I didn't feel like this ruthless killer that I am...I felt...like me. I stopped laughing when I realised Jack was staring at me, smiling. "The deal?" He reminded me, and I just nodded, too surprised at what I just did to refuse. I felt calm and numb as he gently grabbed my hand and pulled me to my feet. He then held my mask, before slowly starting to pull it away. And for some reason I just wanted to stay there with him because he had something about him that made me feel (what's the word?) happy, relaxed...
But then I realised what I'm doing.
I froze as my mind suddenly caught up with me. I was letting Jack Frost, a Guardian, see the real me, and all my centuries of hard work would be ruined! The world would know and despise me and know some of the most powerful immortals in the world, Pitch and Jinx, created me, a pathetic, ridiculous spirit without any dark powers. I had trained for decades to at least get their approval but even then they don't care about me, I'm just a pawn in their games, but still I carry on in hope they'll someday accept me. But now my actions are ruining that, and I'm letting it happen because of a boy! And a Guardian too!
Jack stopped as I visibly stiffened in horror and shock. "Are you ok?" He asked. "Get away from me..." I mumbled, my mind still numb with the disgust and shock at what I was doing. "What?" Jack says. "I said get away from me!" I screamed, my mind catching up with my body. I shoved Jack in his chest, and he tumbled to the ground. I managed to fly a couple of metres away before Bunnymund managed to grab my ankle, and I flailed wildly, before my shackled arms cracked his shoulder, and he let go of me in pain, and I zoomed away.
What have I done?! Was the only thought that floated repeatedly in my head as I flew towards Pitch's lair.
