Just a kiss on your lips in the moonlight, just a touch in the fire burning so bright. No I don't wanna mess this thing up, I don't wanna push too far. Just a shot in the dark and you just might be the one I was waiting for my whole life.
Tooth silently padded along the dark empty hallways. She stopped in front on North's office door and set her bag down beside the doorway, before silently slipping inside the room.
She shut the door behind her and leant on it dreamily, peering at the moonlit sky through the open window, not even aware of the other guardians' presence.
North cleared his throat loudly, snapping her back to reality. She blinked in confusion and skims the room. North and Sandy were looking at her soberly, even little Bunnymund managed to make it to the meeting. She was late and she knew that, she just got a little too distracted with Jack, she forgot about the meeting.
She smiled innocently and pretended like nothing happened. "Hey, what's going on?" she inquired casually, intertwining her fingers awkwardly.
"Where have you been?" North asked sounding more like a concerned parent wondering where his daughter has been late at night.
Tooth shifted under their uncomfortable gazes as tension hung above them all in a cloud. "I was with Jack"
"What took you two so long?"
They were all aware Tooth hung out with Jack occasionally after school, but they never took this long for Tooth to arrive this late in a meeting—and they had been waiting for more than two hours now.
Tooth is the queen of the tooth fairy armies, she has her own will and none of them has the right to make decisions for her. They were not her parents or her siblings, they were merely just companions for the rest of their eternal lives, but right now she is at her weakest point, she is blinded away from reality by love.
She sucked in her cheeks, trying her best to formulate something that was at least convincing.
"Tooth" North sighed heavily; with exasperation similar to a parent's "Do you know why man in moon sent us here?"
"I know" she snapped, tired of being treated like a mindless child who needed guidance every time. She is not an innocent child anymore but yet whenever she is with Jack she just feels so vulnerable. She frowned, her hands tightening into fists. "I just can't control it! I've never felt this way before and I thought I never will, but now that it's really happening, it just feels really good. I actually feel really happy"
Everyone deserves joy, even for the guardians. Although true joy can never come from their work alone, each of them had a missing piece inside, and to Tooth, her missing piece is love.
"Ya know yer only gonna end up hurtin' him in the end right." Bunny pointed out. "Bettah stop this before it hurts him even more"
Tears began to well her amethyst orbs as she tried to protest. "But…"
Sandy stared at her sadly and made a silent gesture, telling her she couldn't stay here permanently.
"It's not a mistake to make friends" North assured and it somehow comforted her a little. "But" he added quickly "It's always harder to let go when you get too attached"
"Remember that he's human and we're not" Bunny appended.
Tooth's knuckles began to turn white from clutching her hands tight. She pursed her lips and tried to blink away the tears. Was she being selfish?
"It's only a matter of time well return to our duties, it's your choice Tooth, we are not forcing you "
"Yeah, it's my choice" she whispered to herself and shut her eyes, her fists slightly relaxing. She needs more time to think, a lot more time.
She had to make a decision, she had to make things right, if only she had the courage to.
Jack smiled proudly to himself as he strode down the moonlit paths. Silently he slipped himself inside the house, quiet like a ghost, expecting his sister to be asleep at this late hour. He was only surprised when he was greeted by the little girl, sitting atop the couch in an Indian style, smiling at him a little devilishly, probably with a whole bunch more questions ready to throw at him.
Jack shot a glance at the clock and glared at Pippa "What are you still doing awake? You have school tomorrow."
"Doesn't matter" she stifled a yawn, stretching her arms above her head. "It's Friday tomorrow, I can get plenty of sleep over the weekend. Right now I wanna know what happened" she started to bounce enthusiastically on the couch. "What did you do? What took you so long?"
"We'll talk about it over breakfast, now go to bed" Jack ordered and tried to lift her off the couch, but the eleven-year-old squirmed away playfully and ran over behind the counter top in the kitchen.
"Pippa" Jack said her name warningly. "Go to bed, I promise I'll tell you everything over breakfast."
"You rarely eat breakfast; all you do is chuck down a glass of milk." Pippa pointed out and remained stubborn on her post.
"I promise I will"
"Hm…" she crossed her arms, a little reluctant.
"Trust me; it's a promise, have I ever broken a promise before?"
"No…I guess not"
"Then go to bed now"
"Fine, but can I ask you a question?"
"Again with the questions"
"It'll just take a while" she yawned again, finally feeling bleary from staying up so late "How does it feel?"
Subconsciously, a smile slid across his face. "It felt nice, it was the first time…and it felt nice…"
She smiled back, happy that her brother has found his joy.
Jack shut the door behind him with a sigh. The night was different somehow; it almost felt like he was afraid to close his eyes.
He sighed heavily and ran a hand through his messy hair. It's probably just a crush he never really seemed to understand. He should be happy to know Tooth felt the same way for him as he felt for her, but he couldn't fathom why he was feeling so troubled instead.
"I'm probably just tired" he tried to convince himself. His gaze traveled around the room, just as he heard a strange scratching noise. He found the grey bunny, out of its cage, sitting right next to the nightstand. His maple eyes widened with surprise and amusement. "How did you get out of your cage?" without second thought, he picked up the grey hare by the scruff and placed him back in his cage, making sure the look is secure.
He heaved another sigh "I should really go to bed now" he took one last glance outside the moonlit night before shutting the window.
He did not dream that night, strangely he somehow felt conscious even in his sleep. He saw nothing but darkness and only the silent sound of a ticking clock echoing.
He awoke again early in the morning, too early for anyone in the house to be awake yet. He moved his leaden arm to rub his eyes that were still bleary with sleep. He strained to take a glance at the clock by the nightstand.
It was 5:30 am…
He shut his eyes and tried to drift back to sleep again, but sleep never came. He laid there still, staring expressionless at the ceiling, constantly dozing off. The happy memory of Tooth returned, he still remembered the first time he ever saw her in a busy crowds that flooded that halls.
She seemed distinctive from the rest, it almost looked like she was shining. Her beauty was one of a kind. Her shoulder length hair reflected the golden sun rays perfectly. Her amethyst eyes stands out from her tan complexion, glittering bright with joy even from afar and her smile gleamed beautifully, white as dazzling stardust that contemplated her kind and compassionate expression.
Jack has met many girls all his life, some just walk up to him whenever he was sitting alone in the cafeteria, and some greet him whenever he passes by. He wouldn't mind having an idle chat with them occasionally, but never before has he stuttered while talking to one, only with Tooth, everything seems to go out of control.
Thinking of her made him smile, albeit it kept him wide awake too. He sat up, the smile never parting as he thought of how much Tooth has helped him change yet he felt like she wasn't being completely honest with him. There is always this spark of mystery about Tooth. She didn't talk about herself much, it's like she's keeping secrets from him, and there are those times when he felt like he didn't really know her that well anymore.
He stretched his arms above his head and dragged himself out of bed, his movements still sluggish with sleep. "She wouldn't" he told himself and trudged to the window. He peered out the misted glass. The sky was still dark, thick dismal clouds still hid away the sun. Small snowflakes still drifted around with the stream of blowing wind. Sods of grass were still pelted with light frost.
Jack pressed his palms against the cold glass and lightly pushed it open, letting in the cold wind that pervaded around, kissing his cheeks tenderly.
He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, enjoying the comfort of the wintry chill.
The first rays of daybreak finally broke through the clouds. It filled the room with light as it shined down on the sleeping form of the little gray bunny
Jack's smile broadened; gazing up at the sky as the sun slowly rises. He's seen sunrises, but this one felt so different or rather special. He never thought he would love seeing sunrises this much. Maybe he should take Pippa out on a walk before school sometimes.
He suddenly remembered the promise he made with Pippa the night before. As much as he hated to talk about "First dates" and "Romance" in front of his eleven-year-old sister (because his overprotective big brother sense told him she wasn't ready for that yet. Although the most recent events proved he was wrong) he wanted to share his experienced with Pippa, maybe she could even help him fathom the strange emotions he was feeling.
He took a glance at the clock. It was still 6 am and since he couldn't seem to drift off to sleep again, he might as well make breakfast, but first he took a brief shower and got dressed for school. He wore just a plane white shirt and a pair of brown pants, not even bothering to get shoes since he walked around the house barefoot almost all the time. He slipped on his favorite blue hoodie to suit the winter holidays and headed out the door.
He silently crept down the stairs, careful not to disturb Pippa who was probably still sleeping soundly in the other room across his.
Jack prepared nothing special really, just a few pieces of pancakes and glasses of orange juice.
As much as Jack could remember, his parents have never been home most of the time ever since he was a child, always busy with work. The only time they took a leave was when Pippa was born but after a few months she was left under his care as well, which is why Jack has always been so independent, learning to do everything on his own. He has grown used to being alone, his whole world only circulating around his sister.
Pippa finally woke up; he could hear her door open from where he was standing, and the sound of her childish voice calling him from the top of the staircase. "Jaaack, I hope you haven't forgotten your promise"
"I haven't, it's why I'm up so early cooking breakfast." He replied while preparing some plates.
"How bout the other promise?" she asked, marching happily down the stairs.
"Of course not, you've been talking about that for weeks"
She gave a whoop of happiness and leapt off the remaining steps and ran straight to the kitchen. "So, how'd it go with Tooth?" she inquired enthusiastically. She pulled out a chair and sat down, using her hands to prop her head up as she stared at Jack with her immensely wide eyes. "Hm? How'd it go?"
Jack rolled his eyes and eventually joined her. "It went surprisingly well…"
"What did you guys do?"
"Went to the park, took her to dinner, just like you suggested…"
"You gave her a ride home right?"
"…yeah…" Jack answered reluctantly, unsure where Pippa is going with this.
"Did you say I love you at her doorstep and get a kiss goodbye?"
"What?" his cheeks turned hot red as a blush grew across. "No! What have you been watching? You know I'm starting to have thoughts about disconnecting the cable."
"Actually, I've been reading" she corrected.
"Seriously what is inside that library" he wondered
"It's what normally happens on a first date"
"It's not a first date, I didn't even plan for all that to happen."
"Oh so you guys are taking it slow?" she teased, taking a bite out of her pancake.
"We're not there yet Pips, life isn't a fantasy"
"It could be if you pretend, come on, you have fun with everything."
"Well, I guess I just don't believe in fairy tails anymore."
"Hm...okay anyway tell me what happened. In full detail"
"Classic Pippa" he rolled his eyes.
"Come on, tell me!" she begged, bouncing up and down on her seat.
"Well first I had to tell her how much I liked her…." He paused and took a sip of his orange juice. "It took a while till I finally made sense…"
"Aw, you shouldn't have written a poem for her instead" Pippa said and earned a glare from Jack. "Will you quit that?"
She ignored him "It would be better if you were on a white horse….Never mind, what goes next?"
"She was quiet for a moment and I thought I scared her off but then she…"
"Gave you a kiss!" Pippa interrupted happily
"A hug"
"Oh…" She slouched, slightly disappointed. "I'll just look at it this way, you're both taking it slow"
"Fine think whatever you want."
"I can really write a book with this." The girl continues to muse
"Whatever you say little lady"
"So what happened next?"
"We talked about a few things, which honestly I hardly remember of, and then I took her to dinner and that's pretty much it…"
"Wow that seems magical" she stared dreamy eyed at the blank air.
"Yeah, but I felt like I was gonna get a heart attack" he muttered.
"AW, that's love sick"
"Honestly up till now I feel really strange"
"That's just an aftershock, did she text you?"
Jack pulled out his phone from his pocket. "No…"
"She must be having love-sick too! It'll be real awkward for you two later, but at least you guys are closer now."
"Yeah, now that I've told you that already, finish your breakfast, we're gonna be late."
"Just don't forget the other promise."
He held up his right hand "I won't, don't worry"

Wait, why does everybody want Jack to die already? Seriously? Lol well I have to admit it is kinda a fun adventure after Jack falls through the ice, I promise it's coming soon, maybe one or two more chapters, I'm not sure XD
Caithlinn13: Thanks XD I hope this update wasn't too overdue
Rguzman318: Hm…Jack could ask her to the dance, but something interrupts him from doing that *hint hint* yeah, I'm so evil.
Sol and G'syr: Yeah, if only I could invent such things like that *sigh* hey, you just inspired me to become a scientist! Lol don't worry, Jack's dying soon :D ahem…I mean falling through ice soon…
Book girl fan: Hey! You just inspired me to create another AU!
Wilona Rive: Darn it! Thank you so much!
I'mStillGonnaEatYa: O.o nice pen name, does that mean yer gonna eat me if I don't update….*gulps* yay, that gave me motivation.
Akizaki14: yeah, I guess that's the only part everyone's looking forward too, oh you guys just love angst don't you?
Malica15: Hahah, don't worry, I don't know how but everyone suddenly wants Jack to die already O.o I'm so sorry about your crush, maybe you can just walk up to him and uh….I dunno, talk to him? OR sit beside him in class, or in lunch and maybe you two'll get closer until you guys are comfortable being "friends' or maybe something more when time comes, plus you both won't feel affected by the other's teasings because deep inside you guys know that you are friends, and whatever they say doesn't matter. One of my best friends who's a guy, and as much as I can remember he's been my friend since I was 5 years old, we do a lot of things together and we even tried 'dating' but it was way too awkward. Anyway, I see him as a friend and he sees me as the same way, even though his friends would tease him about it, he wouldn't mind and he wouldn't go around ignoring me either.
So to conclude all my ramblings, maybe the key is just to…befriend him and uh….ignore what others say…
Sorry, I'm still terrible with advice though…
.7: Thanks! ;)
Guest: soon, very soon
Wolfrunner99: It's coming soon :D
