CHAPTER 10
The trip to Steve's house occurred in complete silence. Both Steve and Izzie were lost in the storm of feelings the situation in HQ had created.
Izzie parked the car in Steve's driveway; instantly a light went on inside the house and the front door opened. She could see Danny's silhouette in the door frame.
- Until eight then, sir. – said Izzie, her heart thumping. Geez, the man had waited up for Steve!
- Until eight – said Steve, jumping of the car. One part of him was relieved about the distance Izzie was trying to put between them, but another part of him that didn't want to admit it felt sad for the same thing.
The morning came faster than anyone in the team expected. Danny and Steve arrived first, with Kono, Chin and Izzie right behind.
None of the team members had time to have breakfast, using all the precious time to sleep. So Danny was sent to buy coffee and malasadas for everybody.
- One latte with cream for Kono, one coffee with cream for Izzie, one black coffee for Steve, one latte with soy milk for Chin. – said Danny distributing the coffee
- Guys we may have a clue – Chin said, taking the coffee from Danny's hand – Thanks, Brah.
- What you got, Chin? – said Steve, gulping from his coffee.
- First, I've confirmed the vic's son was in class in Yale at the time of the murder. The local police took his statement but there's nothing helpful. And second… – continued Chin, placing his coffee cup on the table. – Remember the woman in the pictures on the memory stick? Well, Fong and I increased the resolution of the images. - Chin displayed the photos on the big screen again. Now the images of the woman were much clearer and the details of her face could be seen precisely – Still no hits in any of the databases we have access to. So I sent it to our friends at NCIS.
- You sent it to Abby and Tim(1)? Good idea – answered Steve – What have they found for us?
- They found a lot about our mysterious woman – Chin put a photo of a woman on the screen – Meet Natasha Pavlovna, people, aka Black Widow. She is the niece of the head of the Russian mobster family Dolokov. She was married to Ilia Pavlov, who was planning to kill Nicolai, her uncle and head of the family, to take his place. She found out about it and cut his throat, taking his place as the right hand of Semyon. The family came to the USA in the early 90's just after the end of the USSR(2). Right now they are involved in everything from human trafficking to prostitution, organ sales and slave workers. They started their operations in the mainland, but they came to the islands about two years ago because of Semyon's health, and now they manage the operations from here.
- Well it helps a lot. Chin, Kono and Danny: go talk to your informers. I'm going to send her photo to HPD and I'll get a warrant to arrest Natasha and Semyon. Izzie, stay here at HQ and try to identify where the photo on the flashdrive was taken. It could be near where they're based.
Everybody started to leave the Palace as Izzie started to work on the identification of the place were Natasha's photo was taken.
- I almost forgot – said Chin – Abby and Tim said little Jethro is looking forward to his godfather's visit on his birthday.
- Six years old next month, can you believe? It's the last birthday he'll spend as an only child. Abby would be crazy without her Caf-Pow3and the huge belly – Steve smiled.
