Chris Is Burning

Lorelai and Rory were walking towards the diner when they heard a motorcycle come towards them. The driver got off infront of them.

"Nice shirt! Take it off!" The voice said cockily.

"What?" Lorelai asked.

The man took his helmet off and smiled at them.

"Christopher..." She said quietly.

Rory then realised the man stood infront of them was her dad. She hadn't seen him for years. She'd had the occasional phone call from him but he had never come to visit them here.

Chris smiled at her. "Don't I get a hug kiddo!"

Rory hesitantly went forward and gave him a hug. "Hi dad.." She said.

"I was hoping for a bit more enthusiasm that that!" He laughed.

"Sorry, I'm just surprised." Rory said quietly. "What are you doing here?"

"I've come to see my girls!" He smiled.

Lorelai snorted and she realised he had no idea that she was married.

"So is there anywhere to stay around here?" He asked.

Lorelai found her voice. "I run an inn. I'm sure I can find a room there for you."

"Oh. Sure." Chris' face fell. "Well I don't really have much money. Any chance I could just stay at yours?" He lied.

"Sorry, our place is full." Lorelai said.

"Full?" Chris asked confused. "It's only the two of you. I can take the couch, no biggie." He said.

"Well yeh us, and Luke. I don't think my husband will be very happy with my ex sleeping in our house." Lorelai said annoyed by his assumptions.

"Husband?" Chris asked shocked. "When...how?"

"About a couple of years ago now." Lorelai said.

"You didn't tell me you were married." Chris said.

"Well you haven't exactly been easy to contact the last couple of years. Plus my parents knew so I assumed they would have told your parents." She said.

"Mom, I should get to school." Rory said quietly.

"Oh yeh sure." Lorelai said. "You go."

"Sure?" Rory asked glancing between them.

"Yeh go." Lorelai smiled.

"Ok..." Rory said hesitantly and then went off to catch the bus.

At school, Rory was walking down the hallway thinking about her mom and dad when she spotted Tristan by the lockers and smiled. School was the only time she could see Tristan at the moment after the incident. "Hey." She smiled.

"Hey." He smiled. "You ok?"

"I don't know.." She admitted.

"Why, what's wrong?" He asked.

"My dad showed up today before I came to school." She said.

"Your dad? Really?" He asked surprised.

"Yeh. I hardly recognised him. I mean he hasn't visited us ever here. I get a call from him monthly, if I'm lucky." Rory said. "He didn't even know mom was married."

"Wow, bet that was a shock!" Tristan said.

"Yeh he didn't look happy." Rory said.

"How do you feel about him showing up?" Tristan asked.

Rory sighed. "I don't know." She admitted. "I mean, when I was younger I always wished he would but as I grew older, I came to realise he'd do what he wanted to do on his terms. When mom started dating Luke and then married him, I realised I didn't really need dad as much as I thought I did. Luke's always been there for me." She shrugged. "But then...oh I don't know...he's still my dad..."

Tristan put his arm round her. "You'll figure it out. Maybe he wants to make things right? I mean you said he's never visited before so that's different right?"

"I guess."

"Well maybe he wants to make things right?"

"Maybe." Rory sighed. "I don't know. I guess I'll see."

Rory returned home from school later that afternoon and as she walked up the driveway she heard shouting coming from inside. She rushed up the porch and inside and saw Chris glaring at her mom who was stood with her back to the fireplace.

"You didn't think it fit for me to know you'd brought a man into the house with my kid?" Chris said furiously. "She's my kid too Lorelai!"

"Stop shouting!" Lorelai exclaimed. "Chris you're drunk. I'm not going to talk to you when you're like this!"

"Well I want to talk now!" Chris shouted. "Who is this so called husband anyway?"

"It's none of your business!" Lorelai said.

"It is when he is trying to be a dad to my kid! God Lorelai, was I really that bad? I proposed but you said no! And then I come here and find out you've married someone else!"

Lorelai then saw Rory standing there. "Rory.." She said softly.

Chris turned round. "Hey kiddo.." He said.

"What's going on?" Rory asked.

"Nothing hon, we're just talking." Lorelai assured.

"Doesn't look like that from here. I could hear you from outside!" Rory said. "Should I go get Luke?" She asked her mom.

"Luke? Ah so that's his name!" Chris said. "Hang on a minute! There's a diner called Luke's isn't there? The place that does legendary coffee? Wow Lorelai, I never thought you'd stoop so low that you'd settle for a diner owner." He laughed.

"I didn't settle." Lorelai said trying to get away from the fireplace but Chris grabbed her arm tightly.

"You know, we could be so great together! You don't need this diner guy!" He said.

"Chris let go of me, you're hurting me!" Lorelai said getting a bit unnerved now.

"You were always so stubborn!" Chris said. "You're trying to replace me aren't you?" He said furiously.

"Dad, get off her! You're hurting her!" Rory exclaimed trying to pull him off.

"Stay out of this! I'm trying to make your mom see sense!" Chris said pushing Rory away.

"She has seen sense!" Rory exclaimed. "Luke's great! He's been there for both of you when you weren't! I'm happy mom married him!"

Lorelai saw the fury in Chris' eyes.

"What did you say?" He snapped.

"Luke's great!" Rory repeated. "You don't know what you're talking about! Mom's happy and so am I!"

Chris glared at his daughter in his drunken stupor. "You're happy? You're happy that your mom's married a diner owner instead of your own dad?" He snapped.

"Rory, please..." Lorelai said not knowing what Chris would do in this drunken stupor.

Rory glared at him. "Dad? That's funny! I hear from you once a month, if that! A dad takes an interest in what his daughter is up to and not just ask about her mom, a dad should come and visit, a dad shouldn't make there kid feel like crap and feel like she's not wanted!" She shouted. "When I was younger, yes I wished you would show up and you and mom would get back together but ever since mom met Luke, I didn't need you anymore. Luke cares about mom and me! He knew we came as a package deal! He's hundred times the dad you'll ever be!" She snapped.

Before she knew what was happening, she felt a sting on the side of her face. It took her a moment to realise her own dad had slapped her across the cheek. She felt her eyes sting with tears. "I hate you!" She shouted. "I hate you! I wish Luke was my dad and not you!" She shouted and then ran to her room locking the door behind her.

Even Chris was in shock. "Lor..." He said.

"Get out!" She said shaking with anger. "Get out and don't you ever think of coming back!"

Chris knew this was bad so he left quickly.

Lorelai composed herself and then went to Rory's room and knocked on the door. "Rory, hon, please come out.." She said softly. "He's gone." There was no answer and Lorelai felt tears fall down her cheeks. "Rory hon, please talk to me..." There was still no answer so Lorelai went to the living room and rang Luke.

"Luke's?" Luke answered gruffly.

"Luke, I need you. Please can you come home?" Lorelai asked quickly.

"Lorelai?" Luke asked. "What's going on?"

"You know I told you Chris was here." Lorelai said.

"Yeh." Luke said, worried about what she was about to say.

"He came by the house this afternoon and he was drunk and he was shouting at me about marrying you." She sniffed.

"Lorelai, what happened?" He asked concerned. "Did he hurt you?"

"No but.." She stifled a sob. "Luke, Rory came home and she started shouting at him about what a crap dad he's been and he was drunk and he just saw red." She cried. "Luke, he slapped her." She said quietly.

"What?!" Luke said angrily.

"She's locked herself in her room, she won't come out. Please I need you, Luke. Can you come home?" She sniffed.

"I'll be right there." He said. He put down the phone and grabbed his coat and then left the diner immediately and headed back to the house. He found Lorelai sat on the sofa in the living room. "Lorelai.." He said softly.

Lorelai got up and hugged him. "He scared me, Luke." She said. "He was drunk and he was shouting at me. He had me backed up against the fireplace. And then Rory started shouting at him and I saw him change. I saw it in her eyes. I urged Rory to stop but it was too late. It happened so quickly."

"She's still not come out?" Luke asked.

Lorelai shook her head. "I tried but she won't even talk to me." She sniffed. "Her face, Luke, straight after it had happened. I should have stopped him. This is all my fault!"

"It's not your fault." He comforted her. "You didn't know he was going to do this."

"Will you try and talk to Rory? She needs to put something on her cheek so it doesn't swell." Lorelai said.

"I think she's probably rather talk to you." He said.

"I tried, Luke. She won't even answer me. Please." She begged.

Luke nodded and went over to the door and knocked on it. "Rory? Um it's Luke." He said softly. "We're worried about you. Could you please unlock the door so we can talk?" He asked.

There was no answer.

"Rory your mom told me what happened. We just want to make sure you're ok." He said softly.

They heard a bit of movement and then they heard Rory's voice. "Luke?" She sniffed.

"It's me." He said.

"Dad's gone?" She asked quietly.

"He's gone." Luke confirmed.

There was a silence and then they heard the door unlock and Rory opened the door slowly. Luke felt his blood boil when he saw the red hand mark on her cheek. "We should get something on that." He said gently. "To stop the swelling."

Before Luke could head to the freezer to get something cold, he felt two arms reach round his waist.

"My own dad slapped me." She sniffed.

Luke put his arms round her and rubbed her back soothingly. "I promise you I will never let that happen again." He said softly kissing the top of her head.

"I hate him, I hate him!" She cried.

"Shhh it's ok." He comforted her.

Lorelai watched her husband comfort her daughter and felt her eyes sting. "Oh Rory, I'm so sorry..." She said quietly.

Rory looked over at her before rushing over to her and giving her a hug. "Mom.."

"I should have stopped him. I'm so sorry you got hurt." She said hugging her daughter tightly.

"It's not your fault." Rory said quietly.

Luke took this time to go to the freezer and get out a bag of frozen peas. "Here." He said handing them to Rory. "Put it on your cheek. It'll stop the swelling."

"Thanks." Rory gave him a weak smile and placed the frozen peas on her face and sat down at the table.

Luke put his arm round Lorelai as they all took a minute to just get over the shock of what had just happened.

"Since when do we have frozen peas?" Lorelai asked after a few minutes.

Luke chuckled which caused Rory to giggle and some of the shock started to subside. Luke kissed the side of Lorelai's head. He vowed then that he would keep them both safe and swore that if he ever saw that jerk, he would kill him.

So very dramatic chapter there! What did you think? Review and let me know! :)
