"Let's see now the house is clean, the baby is being feed and dinner was cooking as usual." Robin thought happily as she plopped down on the couch Morgan cradled in one arm as she use to other to hold his bottle for him. Gaius had been away for a few months now and Robin was excited that he'd be home. Sure he was running a bit late but how could she not forgive him. She was sure he did his best to be home in time for the special day but couldn't make it so celebrating a day late would have to do.
"I'm home!" Gaius called from the front door causing Robin to happily get up from the couch and hurry to the door.
"Welcome home" Robin replied with a smile as she waited for him to close the door and put down his bag of questionably obtained good on the floor before giving him a quick smooch.
"It's good to be back, I'm sorry I have to be away so often, if I could I'd be here with your and Morgan all the time." Gaius replied sadly as he looked to the baby and put a gentle hand on the baby's head as the baby Morgan cooed.
"It's ok I understand, maybe someday I'll be able to work too once Morgan is old enough, then you won't have to take on so many heists." Robin replied slightly saddened because she didn't feel like she was able to contribute very much and partially because she wished as well that Gaius was home more often. "But that's a matter for another time. Now that you're home we can finally celebrate. You're only a day late too so it's like you're not late at all." Robin replied happily, she honestly didn't know when he'd be back so for him to be back this close to on time made her happy all the same.
"Celebrate?" Gaius thought as the panic started to set it. "Crap what did I forget? What is today? should I have brought flowers? Oh Crap I'm so screwed." Robin noticed the change in facial expressions causing her to look at Gaius confused.
"Are you ok Gaius? you look pale all of a sudden, are you sick?" Robin asked concerned as she maneuvered the baby bottle to her other hand so she could put the back of her now free hand against Gaius's forehead.
"What? Me sick? No, Never. I'm the pinnacle of health and sweets combined." Gaius replied as he looked away and continued rolling through the holidays and dates that they would celebrate.
"You forgot didn't you."Robin stated bluntly with an un amused stare that pierced through Gaius's soul.
"Forgot is a strong word. It's more like temporarily can't remember." Gaius replied as he expertly put his words together which just pissed robin off even more.
"Right, Well you have till dinner to remember or your sleeping on the couch for the next two weeks." Robin replied as she rolled her eyes and walked to the hall way that lead to the baby's room.
"When is that exactly?" Gaius asked concerned that his neck was on the chopping block so soon after getting home.
"You have three hours." Robin replied with a sigh, annoyed that he was actually asking for a time limit rather than trying to figure it out.
"That's more than enough time for me to figure it out." Gaius replied confidently with his usual smirk. "We celebrate it every year right?"
"Yes, which is why I'm thinking you won't remember if you've forgotten a yearly tradition." Robin stated in a calm and blunt tone as she tucked the now sleeping baby into bed.
"Right, I'm gonna head out then. I won't be back until I remember." Gaius stated confidently as he walked back out the door.
"Don't you think it would be easier to remember if you stayed at home?" Robin mumbled as she went to cooking. "Looks like I might not see him until next year at this rate."
-two and a half hours later-
"Why can't I remember?!" Gaius thought frustrated as he walked through the streets, It didn't seem to be any sort of plegian holiday so that ruled out a few things. It wasn't their anniversary it wasn't his birthday it wasn't Robin's birthday or, well, the day she was found in a field. There was seemingly nothing special about that day. "And I know it's not Morgan's birthday, I would have been home on time for that for sure. if not early." Gaius sighed as he slumped onto a bench becoming ok with the idea that the bench might be his new bed for a while until he figured this out.
"Gaius?" Said a some what familiar voice drawing him from his thoughts as he looked over to a burly clocked man.
"Huh?" Gaius stated confused as to how he knew the guy.
"Son of a gun it is you, yea ole rascal." The man said as he walked over to Gaius with a smile.
"Um." Gaius replied as the man sat down next to Gaius only to give Gaius a bewildered look.
"You don't remember me?" the man asked confused.
"If it makes you feel better I've forgotten a lot today." Gaius replied uninterested by the strangers. he still had time to figure this out and go home.
"Eh, everyone has those days. It'll come to you." The man replied in an understanding tone. "So how have you been, haven't seen you in ages. Still working for the prince or are you back in Plegia for good now?"
"Back for good, kinda got a bounty on my head for stealing something from the prince." Gaius replied not wanting to go into a lot of detail but still wanted to brag a bit to what he guessed was an old partner of his. He rarely associated with anyone else.
"Well I'll be. Good ole sticky fingers at his finest. So what did you nab, anything good?" The man asked putting Gaius completely at ease, the military only ever called him by his name old and new partners alike would call him sticky fingers though.
"Of course, you seem to know me. I only steal the finest." Gaius stated as his thoughts drifted back to his wife who was still waiting for him at home, doing her best to draw out dinner preparations as long as she could. "Nabbed myself The sweetest bride you'll ever meet." Gaius said with a smirk which caught the man's attention.
"Eh So you're married now you devil's dog? Congratulations." The man replied with a smirk at the younger thief.
"Yeah, got a little thief in the making too." Gaius bragged a bit before remembering that he still couldn't go home.
"You're kidding, you gotta little bugger of your own? that's bound to be trouble in the making."
"Yeah, he's a hand full. but, uh, I kinda can't go back right now. See I forgot that there is something important about today and can't remember what it is."
"That's rough my friend. I'm going to assume it's not an anniversary or birthday?" The man questioned to which Gaius just nodded as he tried to think of what could be special about the day. "And it's not a holiday today. Well in Feroxi it's some sort of harvest day but I doubt that's it." The man continued then pondered as she stroked his beard. "The only thing I can think of was that heist we went on together a few years ago, that happened on the same day. It's the biggest job I've ever head, don't think I can't speak for you though, you didn't finish."
"I didn't?" Gaius asked confused until it finally dawned on him why today was important. Gaius shot up from his seat and started running home hoping he could make it in time.
"Thanks Beard-o!" Gaius yelled over his shoulder remembering his nickname for his old friend.
"It's sven!" The man replied with a laugh, happy that he had been remembered causing Gaius to turn around and run in place.
"Whatever! I owe you one!"Gaius yelled back before hurrying home, opening the door with a thud causing Robin To almost drop the meal she had been working on all day.
"Gaius what have I told you about that door?" Robin asked a little annoyed but still happy to see him. Gaius ignored the chiding and confidently walked over to Robin and gave her a kiss.
"I take it that you remember?" Robin asked hopefully.
"How could I forget the day I first meet you?" Gaius replied before gently taking the food from robin and putting it on the table for her.
Hopefully you like this, I thought it was pretty good since it started from a bit of thought vomit. (- that's what I call just writing with out having a plan ahead of time.) Up next I plan to post Gaius epilogue since it pretty much done and I'm really excited to post it. Sorry I'm not following my usual order, hopefully you can forgive me.
