Chapter 10 – Lies, Threats, and Bribes
As the rest of the families were finding Kate around the house, Kate came back to her grandfather's parlor. He looked very unhappy as usual. Kate said, "I'm sorry my mission has failed, Grandfather. I will do anything to make it up to you."
"My Kate, you are a clever little girl," he said.
"I'm fourteen, grandfather."
"Here's what I want you to do." Franklin then took his granddaughter to the window and showed her Doctor Gray and Detective Rose wandering around. "You see the couple right there?"
"Yes…"
"That also is evidence. DESTROY IT!"
"Are you saying that I have to hide in plain sight from the other families including my father and mother so that I can kill Doctor Gray and Detective Rose?"
"Like I said before you are clever." Franklin then handed Kate $100.
"Money? What's this for?"
"I also want you to bribe people when they see you so they won't tell anyone they saw you. It's like your lifeline." Kate's eyes turned green and then she headed off upstairs.
Sheryl and her parents were upstairs in the attic with Eugene and his father also finding Kate. Suddenly as they were walking upstairs, Miss Scarlet moaned and collapsed to the floor. Sheryl, Mr. Green, and Eugene stopped walking and ran to her right away.
"Mother dearest! Are you okay?" asked Sheryl.
"Do you want me to call a doctor?" asked Eugene.
"Um… kids, we have a doctor right here," said Mr. Green referring to Professor Plum.
"Mother, please don't die," cried Sheryl.
"Honey, I'm not going to die. I don't think I can go any longer. Remember, our tenth baby is on his or her way, so go on without me," said Miss Scarlet. Following her advice, Eugene and Sheryl walked off together while Mr. Green stayed and helped.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Peacock, Ellen, Colonel Mustard, and Lawrence were in the cellar looking for Kate. Little did they know that Kate was hiding in there. She then saw the foursome and thought of a way for them to stop searching. Her eyes then turned green and she made Mrs. Peacock's glasses fly away. Mrs. Peacock ran around like a chicken and then ran into the wall. Kate giggled evilly and headed upstairs.
"What happened, Ma?" asked Ellen.
"I don't know. I think the wind blew my glasses off," she said.
"Do you need any help navigating?" asked Colonel Mustard.
"Sure, but it's pretty dark in here," said Mrs. Peacock.
"Remember this, dark doesn't bother me." Lawrence was confused and walked up to his father. "Do you want us to stay here?" he asked.
"No. Go on without us. Besides it'll take a while for her to find the stairs," said his father. Ellen and Lawrence sighed as they went upstairs.
In the billiard room, Sheryl and Eugene searched everywhere until they heard a knock on the door.
"Who's there?" asked Eugene suspiciously. He then grabbed a pool stick and took Sheryl by the hand. "I want no harm done to my lady." Sheryl's cheeks blushed, and she kissed him on the cheek.
"Awww. Eugene, you're such a gentleman," she said.
"I know," he said bragging. He then opened the door to find Ellen and Lawrence standing there.
"What are you doing here?" Sheryl asked.
"Mom lost her glasses and Colonel Mustard had to help her," said Ellen.
"What's your excuse?" asked Lawrence.
"Her mother is pregnant and can't walk no longer," said Eugene.
"I think we're being joked," said Ellen suspiciously. "We now need to find Kate fast."
"Oh no, Ellen. Kate's already found you," said a voice from behind. They all turned around to see who it was. It was Kate.
"We found Kate. Let's go tell Detective Rose," said Lawrence.
"No! I want all of you to stay here. You must know that I'm under orders and I cannot have my parents or the detectives find me." Kate then took out the $100 bill and waved it across their faces. "You see this? This is the key for you not telling anyone I was here. I trust you all except for Ellen." She then crossed over to Ellen. "Don't tell anyone about this, or you and your loudmouth will be hanged!" She then handed Ellen the money and walked off to find the detectives.
"Did she just bribe you?" asked Eugene.
"Hey! No one touches my money!" she snapped.
Back by the master bedroom, Doctor Gray and Detective Rose were searching, and again Kate was hiding. She then wanted to kill Detective Rose first so she came up with a way to get Doctor Gray out. Her eyes turned green and then she made him cramp.
"Rosalinda, I think I have to use the bathroom," he said.
"George, hurry up!" yelled Detective Rose as he ran off in the distance.
"You must be desperate, huh Rosalinda?" asked Kate. Detective Rose turned around to find Kate in her presence. "Stay here, my dear. You're going to miss the funeral."
"What funeral?"
"Yours…"
