Chapter 10

SCENE: SEATTLE GRACE A COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER

(Mark walks into an on-call room where he sees Lexie lying on the bed.)

Mark: Hey, you okay? You seem tired today.

Lexie: Yeah, I was just up all night. Aiden got a new tooth so he's in pain so he can't sleep.

Mark: Why didn't you call me?

Lexie: You were on-call, I didn't want to bother you.

Mark: Hey, I'm available 24 hours a day for you and Aiden.

Lexie: I know, I'm sorry, I guess I'm still not used to having help, ever since my Mom died and my Dad started drinking it's really just been me.

Mark: Well, now it's you and me, okay, I don't want you to feel like you can't call me. I love that little boy more than anything and I want to be there for him and his mother.

(Lexie smiles.)

Lexie: I know, I promise I'll call next time.

Mark: In fact, you're off tonight right?

Lexie: Yeah.

Mark: Well, I am too, so how about I come over, make you dinner and I'll take care of Aiden tonight while you get some sleep.

Lexie: You don't have to-

(Mark gives her a look.)

Lexie: (Smiling) But you want to. That would be great.

Mark: Good. (He kisses her head.) I'll see you tonight.

(Mark walks out and Lexie smiles.)

A LITTLE WHILE LATER

(Derek and Addison walk up to Mark.)

Mark: Hey Addie, how are you doing?

Addison: Good. So, we were thinking of getting a drink tonight, you want to come?

Mark: I can't, I have other plans.

Addison: Oh, what's her name?

Mark: Lexie... and Aiden.

Addison: What?

Derek: Yeah, get this, Mark's a father.

Addison: (Snorting) What?

Mark: His name's Aiden, he's almost 11 months old.

Addison: I'm sorry, 11 months, were you hiding a baby when I was still working here?

Derek: He didn't know, not until a few months ago when the mother started working here.

Addison: (Laughing) Of course. I'm guessing Lexie was one of your famous one night stands?

Mark: She was, at one point.

Addison: What? Are you honestly saying you have feelings for this girl?

Mark: She's a woman, and I honestly am telling you that.

Derek: He honestly does. You should see the way he talks about her.

Addison: I'll believe it when I see it.

(Just then Lexie rushes up to them.)

Lexie: Hey, Mark, would you mind going down to have lunch with Aiden, Yang has me giving suture after suture and unfortunately I can't do it today.

Mark: Absolutely.

Lexie: (Smiling) Thank you. (She cups his face and gives him a peck on the lips and walks away.)

Addison: Wow, and I thought Meredith was young.

Derek: Oh, and here's the really fun part, care to guess what Lexie's last name is?

Addison: Oh my god, don't tell me-

Derek: Lexie Grey, Meredith's younger half-sister.

Addison: Oh my god. You got Meredith Grey's little sister pregnant?

Mark: Yes I did, now I have to go because I want to get my lunch early enough so I have plenty of quality time with my son. Good seeing you Addie.

(Mark walks away.)

Addison: Have I come into the twilight zone? Because that is not the same Mark Sloan that was here a few months ago.

Derek: Things change. I was skeptical too at first, but he really cares about Lexie, and he really loves his son, I've never seen him so happy.

(Derek walks away.)

A LITTLE WHILE LATER DOWN AT THE DAYCARE

(Addison is looking through the window at Mark and Aiden when Callie walks up to her.)

Callie: Hey, I've been looking for you. You want to grab some lunch?

Addison: Uh, sure.

Callie: Isn't Mark's baby cute?

Addison: I still can't believe my eyes.

Callie: I couldn't either at first. But he loves that little boy so much.

Addison: I can see that.

Callie: Addison, you're not like jealous or anything are you?

Addison: Yes, but not in the way you think. I, I aborted Mark's baby because I thought he would be a lousy father, then I found out I can't have kids, now the man I thought would be a lousy father has a baby with some preschooler.

Callie: Lexie's not that young.

Addison: But-

Callie: Addison, you have to let this go, you made the choice that you made and now it's all in the past, everyone is happy, you have to move on from this.

LATER THAT NIGHT AT LEXIE'S APARTMENT

(Lexie and Mark are eating their dinner with Aiden sitting in his high chair.)

Lexie: This is good, I didn't know you could cook.

Mark: I don't a lot with my schedule, but Mrs. Shepherd taught me a few things.

Lexie: Well, thank you again for doing this.

Mark: Lex, you don't have to keep thanking me, I really don't mind this at all.

Lexie: I know. Um, so I met Dr. Montgomery today.

Mark: Yeah, she was here consulting with me on that baby who needed the skin flap.

Lexie: Um, she was Derek's wife right? The one you-

Mark: Slept with while they were still married, yes.

Lexie: Well, she seemed nice.

Mark: In her own way I suppose.

(Lexie laughs.)

Lexie: She seemed to have a shocked look on her face when we were leaving the hospital with Aiden, why do you think that is? Is it my age?

Mark: No, I think she just was surprised to see me with a child.

(Mark gets a look on his face.)

Lexie: I'm not pressuring you, but you know you can talk to me about this right? I'm not here to judge you on your past, it's the present and the future that matter to me.

Mark: Well, unfortunately Addison didn't have the same perspective. Um, I never told you this, but when Addison and I were together she got pregnant. Uh, I got excited, I bought the baby a onesie and I got a calendar and circled the due date, but-

Lexie: What?

Mark: She- She had an abortion.

Lexie: What? Wh- Why would she do that when you were so excited?

Mark: Well, I wasn't the most moral guy, while I was with her I was sleeping around.

Lexie: But that's what made you a bad boyfriend not a bad father- I mean, you're not a bad boyfriend, at least not to me and- Why are you smiling?

Mark: You just called me your boyfriend.

Lexie: Oh sorry, I just figured- Well, we've been spending so much time together and we haven't been seeing other people, well at least I haven't, if you have I don't hold it against you because there's no reason you shouldn't have-

(She's cut off when he kisses her.)

Mark: I haven't been seeing anyone else, and I don't want to, and I really don't want you to see anyone else. And I really want to be your boyfriend.

Lexie: (Smiling) Good.

(She kisses him again.)

Lexie: Um, I'm sorry.

Mark: About me being your boyfriend?

Lexie: (Laughing) No, I'm sorry when I first got here I didn't give you a chance with Aiden at first. Despite what happened I should have tried to give you the benefit of the doubt. I'm no better than Addison in that respect am I?

Mark: Don't say that. You're nothing like Addison. You were upset with me when you first got here and you had every right, I shouldn't have walked out on you the morning after our night together. But Lex, the important thing is, is that you did give me a chance to be Aiden's father. Addison never did. You have no idea how much that means to me. I didn't really know before if I saw myself as a Dad, but when I saw you with Aiden in the daycare that first day I just knew before you even confirmed I was his father, that I was meant to be that little boy's father. I knew that I love him and I would do anything to protect him. And you let me prove that to you. And you gave me a chance for us to have a romantic relationship too. So, you and Addison Montgomery couldn't be more different.

(They kiss again but break apart when they hear Aiden make a loud noise.)

Mark: Uh oh, I think someone's feeling ignored. Come here you.

(He goes to Aiden and picks him up out of his booster seat. He starts talking to him as Lexie watches and smiles.)

Lexie: (Quietly to herself) You made the right choice Lexie, in every way.

A/N: Like I said I'm trying to update all of my stories and I thought it would be fun to see how Addison would react to Mark and Lexie having a baby together. I hope you like it!
