The next night, Kira sat in a tree watching the vampires feed on a couple. She watched almost hypnotized as blood sprayed onto the sand. Kira could feel her face contort and her breathing grow heavy. Dwayne and David both tried to wave her down, but she shook her head and stayed in her tree. When the feeding was over, David threw both bodies in a fire, and Marko kicked the sand around.
The tree shook slightly and Kira looked down to see Paul climbing up. It was a short tree, but thick enough to hold the two. After wrestling a smaller branch for his hair, He slid up to the branch Kira had been sitting on, and then brought his middle and index fingers to his lips, almost in a kissing motion. Paul then held his fingers out to Kira. She licked her fangs unconsciously and shook her head, rejecting his offer.
"Are you sure? You look like you want some" Paul grinned and gave a wink. Kira had forgot her face was still twisted and quickly snapped it back in place. She'd gotten good at that. "The girl tasted like strawberries. I bet you'd like it~" he added a sing songy tone.
"Sorry Paul not tonight" She looked at him and pulled a twig from the climb out of his long blonde hair.
"Hmm fine." He looked disappointed for a moment but then shrugged and smiled. "More for me" he licked the small amount off his fingers. "Hey wanna see something cool?"
Kira raised an eyebrow. "Should I be scared?"
"Nooo not at all" he grinned and hopped down out of the tree, his jacket jingling slightly. "Come on" he held out his hand and helped Kira jump down. "So" Paul held her hand and led her to the bikes. "Ever wonder how we keep these babies rolling?"
"I always figured you stole money or gas or something?" Kira guessed. She hadn't really thought about it too much. She just knew they rode their bikes often and never really seemed to have issues with them. Paul made a buzzer noise indicating she was wrong. "Erm. So then what's the secret?" He rubbed his hands together and then poked Kira, giving her a shock. She jumped slightly. "Since when can vampires shock people?" She asked him.
Paul grinned from ear to ear like he was so proud. "Not all can" he winked at her. "The four of us, though, That's how we keep the bikes running" he explained while smiling. Kira half doubted him, but then the vampire group in Washington had said something about extra abilities. Course she also didn't believe that group were actually vampires... But what the hell.
"Can I do that?" She wondered aloud.
"Hmm maybe" Paul gave a playful smirk. "If you ever complete the change" Kira gave him a small glare. Sounded cool, but Creed would save her before she could try it out. She hoped.
Kira studied the safety pins on Paul's jacket for a moment. "Meanie" she mumbled and softly punched his arm.
Paul climbed onto his bike and hit the seat behind him. "Wanna go for a ride?" Kira hopped on the bike. He gave her a small wink and then wrapped Kira's arms around his waist. "Hold on tight. Don't want you to fall off"
She nodded and gave him a smile. "Where we going?"
Paul revved the engine and thought for a second. "Where ever we stop" he smiled and picked up his feet, and like that they were off.
Kira almost immediately remembered the first night she spent in Santa Carla. At first the memory made her feel angry. And guilty. She had let them fool her into thinking they were normal. Why she hadn't become a snack still escaped her. But then beneath all of that, she remembered the happiness they had made her feel. Not just that night, but every night until the secret was revealed. She knew she shouldn't think about it, but she missed just being happy with them.
Kira nuzzled into Paul's shoulder as the wind blew her hair back. She wasn't sure if the vampire blood she drank was messing with her thoughts or not, but she had to admit she felt happy more often than not with the vampires. Kira hugged Paul tighter. Was she gaining real feelings for these bloodsuckers? Once again her head swam with clashing thoughts, but she sighed softly and let the wind blow them away as well.
Again Creed watched his sister disappear with one of the monsters. It didn't make sense to him why she was trying to get to know them. Yea she was supposed to gather Intel from the inside, but to him it seemed she was becoming closer and closer to them. He resisted the urge to follow the two on the bike. Instead, he walked to the Frogs.
"Your sisters starting to worry me man. It's been a few days, how do we know she hasn't turned yet?" Edgar stated quietly, but just loud enough that Creed could hear him.
"She won't" Creed looked at a couple comics, re-arranging some of the shelves.
Allan watched him. "We don't know how long really someone can hold out. You've got to prepare for the worst"
"But it won't happen" Creed glared at them. "She's tougher than that"
Allan softly laughed. "Well I guess it's a good thing they didn't just eat her right?" He joked trying to defuse the tension. When Edgar glared at him and Creed growled something under his breath, Allan rubbed the back of his head. "Sorry. Not funny. My bad"
Creed sighed. This whole mission had gotten fucked up. What the hell happened? "Do we still think taking them out as a group would be best? I mean Kira could lead one off and we could strike him then"
Edgar shook his head. "The others would wonder where he went. Gotta be all together"
"Alright. I'm gonna go spend some time on the sand" Creed walked away from the brothers, with no real direction in mind.
He didn't get very far.
"What was that about? You guys jumping someone?" Mary. Creed didn't need to turn to tell who had talked to him.
"Erm" he wasn't sure how to answer. "Yea kinda"
She ran her hand through her dark hair. "Why?"
"My sister" he started. "She's been hanging with a bad crowd, I think. She used to share my thoughts about them, seemed to at least. But now it's like she's one of them." He didn't know why he was telling Mary all this. Maybe a girl's opinion would ease his nerves. The truth was the Frogs comments had scared him. And now he only worried more. He was careful to not give away anything important.
Mary was quiet for a minute while they walked. It was weird seeing her without the other two. "Well. I don't know what to say. Don't smother her? You may just push her into their arms" she paused, seemingly lost in thought. "What are your plans for tonight?"
"I would like to see my sister to be honest." He moped. "But. I could go for a burger"
"A big greasy burger sounds nice" Mary agreed.
"Let's go, my treat" Creed smiled. Shortly after, the two were sitting at a picnic table on the beach, the smell of burger, fries and ketchup filling the air around them. Creed took apart his burger and re-stacked its components. Mary gave him a weird look. "What? They never distribute stuff right. It's like they stack all the sauce on one spot and then put all the bacon on the same spot, in the same direction. How am I supposed to get the perfect bite with everything all skiwampus?" Mary laughed at him. "I'm serious!"
She took a bite out of her burger and then dipped a fry in her chocolate shake. "I think you're crazy"
Creed glared playfully at her. "Says the one drenching potato in ice cream"
"Hey. Its good" she shrugged. And he thought he was the weird one.
