Hey everyone! So I got the vibe that you guys liked the last chapter! I deduced this by the excessive amount of cursing going on in the reviews! Usually I'm the one cursing an authors name before I go to bed, not gonna lie it's kind of epic to be on the other side of that! Anyway here is the new chapter!
I didn't wake with a start, but rather a slow painful regaining of my senses. I slowly became conscious of a splitting headache and the uncomfortable position I was sitting in. My entire backside was in pain and my neck was stiff. I opened my eyes slowly and the pain in my head spiked as the light was let in. I snapped them shut right away and tried to regain my surroundings. My head felt like it was underwater, all noises were muffled and my limbs were sluggish. From what I could gather I was still on the sidewalk leaned up against a brick wall.
As I slowly regained my mental capacities the one question on my mind was if the battle was still raging. I squinted my eyes, the sunlight hurt so badly tears sprung up, but I turned my head and looked up at the sky.
Nothing except a lot of smoke. I breathed a sigh of relief and leaned back on the hard brick. I needed to get up, find the school, call my friends, see what survived. I shifted my weight slowly, stiffly I put my feet under me and straightened my legs. Right away I knew something was wrong; my head swam dangerously and my legs felt nonexistent, they buckled underneath me and I fell to my knees. I shifted back to wall and waited for the world to come back in focus.
Standing had taken such a toll on me that I'd broken into a clammy sweat. My head still throbbed painfully. I reached and massaged the back of my skull were it hurt the most. Alarmed I pulled my hand away, a stinging sensation had started where my hand had rested. I looked down at my now retreated hand, and saw it was covered with slick bright red blood. My head spun from the sight I was afraid I would pass out again. I don't normally swoon at the sight of blood, but when it's your own its a little different.
I reached back to see if I could feel how much blood I'd lost. I gently probed around in my thick sticky mess coated the back of my head, my hand trailed down to my neck and where it had matted my hair. By the time I reached my blood caked collarbone I looked down at myself. Crimson red had stained my shirt all the way to my waist. I closed my eyes and focused on not panicking. I must have hit my head harder than I thought when Thor and I came down.
Fighting a full blown panic attack I reached down to the hem of my shirt to rip it. I needed something to staunch the blood flow before I bled out. I tugged weakly and it just stretched out the sweat soaked fibers. This always seemed so much easier on tv. I tugged again, same result. I was just too weak to rip a shirt apart. Pathetic. My heart thrummed in panic, I was helpless, I couldn't stand, I couldn't even stop the bleeding. My vision tried to cloud over again in my terror, but I pushed it back. I couldn't pass out now, I'd lost too much blood. Tears tried to leak out of my eyes, I was so desperately afraid. I needed to stay calm.
Time wavered in front of me, a mixture of fear and dazed sleep as the sound of an aircraft grew louder.
"He said she was over here."
"I see her sir!"
"Get medical over here right away, she does not look too good."
I felt someone grasp my shoulder and gently nudge me.
"Miss Lane? Charlotte? Can you hear me? If you can, we are here to help. You've sustained some serious injuries and we need to treat them." A low female voice informed me.
I cracked my eyes open slowly as a few people flitted around me. They applied pressure to my head and fit a brace around my neck. Then they lifted me onto a stretcher and transported me to the Helicopter. I was too tired to argue so I just relaxed.
Being dizzy on the ground was strange enough but in the moving helicopter it was almost fun. Almost. I was vaguely aware of a variety of tubes and needles being placed in my arms. It didn't really bother me though, a strange sense of bliss washed over me and I fell asleep.
~Later~
I came to in a hospital bed. Sunlight poured in through a large open window, a few vases filled with flowers lined the window sill. I smiled slightly to myself and looked around the rest of the room. There were several monitors next to my bed, one looked like it was monitoring my heart and another looked like it was watching brain activity. Among other things I still had an IV shoved into my veins and an oxygen tube in my nose.
As I sat there many questions swirled in my head. So much had happened since last time I was awake and I had no idea how much time had passed. I looked around my room until I found a button that looked like a nurse call, so I pressed it.
About five minutes later the door opened, however instead of a nurse Coulson from shield walked in. I sat up, surprised to see him, I also gathered the hospital blanket up higher. I was only wearing a thin hospital gown, and some things were only meant for the imagination. He pulled up a chair and sat it so he was facing me. I watched him until he decided to speak.
"That was quite a concussion you received. You've been out for about a week, if we hadn't been there any sooner it could've been permanent." he said nonchalantly.
"You're the ones who found me?" I asked as my mind raced. A whole week?
"Thor told us where to find you. I'll have to admit I thought we were too late when we finally got there."
We sat there for a moment pondering my near death, I had to admit I wasn't sure why he cared, or why he was even here.
"So.. Is everything safe now? I mean do we still need to worry about an attack?" I asked after a while.
"No, the problem appears to be eliminated, except for Loki, which brings me to why I'm here." he stated then paused to gauge my reaction.
"Is he still a threat? Did you come here to question me again?" I asked nervously. There were too many possibilities when it came to Loki.
"First off, I wanted to apologize on behalf off shield. It was unacceptable for us to allow him to just take you off our ship. Highly uncoordinated of us." he said with a shake of his head.
"Next, you should know that Loki is currently detained in a secure facility. We are currently rotating the Avengers so that he is always watched, so you have no reason to feel unsafe. However, Loki has asked for your presence several times. He insists it is important to your health and well being. Normally I wouldn't encourage behavior that would enable such violent people. but in this case I'm suggesting the opposite. Loki may have information that could help you, and us, and if you're the only one who can get it, than it might be worth it. I've discussed the matter in length with Thor and he believes that Loki is not lying about your life being in danger. If we could remedy that issue than that it would make sending him back to Asgard much easier."
After such a long speech I felt rather stunned. I sat in silence for a while, forming my statements carefully before speaking.
"He-Loki said that there wasn't a way to remedy what had started. How do we even know what he wants to talk to me about? This could all be some wild game he is playing." I stated unconvinced.
"We don't know anything definitely, this all could be a wild game as you put it, but getting any kind of information could help us, and he won't talk to anyone but you." He said flatly. I sensed the slightest hint of desperation in his eyes. I was one of his only ways to get information; it made me feel even more like a pawn. If this really was a game than I needed to pick my allies carefully. Without shield I was nearly defenseless. Loki could majorly out power me and I would need help if it ever came to that again. I just needed to be brave.
"Okay. I'll talk to him." I stated shakily.
There you go guys. A little rushed and not the most thrilling chapter, but Loki is coming!
I hope to have a chapter up once a week from now on :)
If you have any ideas you want to share with me just say them! I love getting inspiration from readers!
