A Common Need

Chapter Ten
Bruce
I looked up from Rachel's desk where I had been glancing over her notes. "What now?" I growled at her. She was standing against the wall, her arms crossed, hair spilling around her shoulders, a bitter look on her face.
"Have you been out all night, Bruce?" she whispered, casting her eyes towards the ground.
I frowned. "Yes."
"I called him, earlier; he was quite frustrated at not being able to find you. Why don't you just go back?"
"Why are we talking about this, Rachel?" I kept my voice harsh, walking towards her and setting a hand on her shoulder, surprised at how I could still feel her warmth through my glove.
She made an exasperated noise and brushed my hand away. "Just, get out of here."
I raised an eyebrow, though she could not see it, and rushed past her, out of the building without anyone else noticing.
Harvey
"You really should hurry up and tell us where your friend is." The woman stood there with a very sour look on her little face, her ams crossed.
"I told you, already; I don't know!" I crowed, struggling with the metal that held my wrists together. I was stuck in a room plated with stainless steel, no furniture in sight. My body sat in an uncomfortable position, legs bent beneath me, hands behind my back, head leaning forwards. The woman stood in the corner, her long hair shimmering in the harsh light.
"I guess it doesn't really matter, anymore; we've gotten enough shit off that vessel to last us at least two months."
"Who are you?" I whispered, my voice hoarse from yelling so much.
"My friends call me Jen." she announced, her voice casual.
"I don't care about your name. Why are you here? What sort of operation is this?" I murmured, wishing I could produce a tougher tone.
"Can't you tell, Mr. Dent?" the Asian waltzed over, prancing very much like a pony, before kneeling before me. Her shorts were so petite that I could see her red and white underwear; and yet, this all this did was make me more pissed off.
The woman lifted a hand out and tilted up my jaw. "We're pirates."

Speed and I had never had problems. We worked together like siblings, partners in crime, so close we were practically one being. But as I raced for the yacht, it felt as if I were a million miles away, and getting farther with every kilometer.
The vessel sat in the distance, rocking on the waves, completely vulnerable. It wasn't until it'd come into my sight that I'd realized that I'd left it completely defenseless, Harvey fast asleep...
Braking as I pulled alongside the yacht, I glanced about; no one on the deck. Throwing myself onto a ladder and pulling up, an armored backpack swinging off of my shoulders, the Sea-Doo I'd been riding resting on a platform that hung off the side of the boat, I groaned slightly.
"Harvey?" I called, stumbling down the tight staircase, into the heart of the boat. The lights were on, but it still took me a moment to realize that things had been ripped apart.
"Harvey? What the fuck?" I roared, storming down one of the halls towards his bedroom, cursing violently. I swung the man's door open...
The curses became more profuse. There was nothing in the room, except for an empty bed frame. My heart began to pound, and I turned around with surprising vigor.
At first, running to the bathroom and pulling on my suit, I was tempted to call Rachel and tell her everything; that she was right, that I never should've left, that I was useless... But my stomach twisted at the thought. I bit my lip and ran, barely feeling as I knocked into a strewn table and lunged over a strongbox.
I threw myself off of the side of the boat without another thought, landing safely atop the Sea-Doo, surprised at the strength of the platform below. Throwing the thing into reverse, I felt my brain begin top operate in overdrive. Who had done this? Mercenaries? And where the hell was Harvey?
Author's Note: Yes, I know, it's short. My apologies. I am beginning to think of this story more and more like a television show in my mind, so yeah. I have no idea what that has to do with it. xD More Bruvey action very soon!! Also, 'Frou Frou' (Imogen Heap) is officially the new.. theme-singer of this story.
