As a reminder I still don't own Harry Potter or any related properties. One line in bold was taken from Chapter 17 of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
Chapter 10
For Tracey Davis, the past few weeks had been a blank spot. Other than a few memories, she couldn't remember much after getting home from Flourish and Blotts. After sorting out her purchases she noticed a small unused diary with the initials T. M. Riddle amongst her things. Tracey figured that she must have grabbed it by accident when she was picking up her things after getting knocked over during the fight between Arthur Weasley and Lucius Malfoy. Figuring that there was no point in wasting a perfectly good diary she wrote her name on the first page and then everything went black.
"How did you figure out that Tracy has the diary?" Harry asked as they rushed to the second floor girl's bathroom.
"We saw her dot on the map enter the loo and then disappear." Ginny explained "and since the Chamber isn't on the map that's the only place she could have gone." As they made their way down the stairs and entered the second floor hallway where Mrs. Norris had been found, they were stopped by a voice calling out to them.
"Oi!" Tonks called out to them. "Where are you three going in such a hurry?"
"There's no time Tonks." Harry said. "There's about to be another attack." Tonks' face instantly showed worry and she drew her wand and sent out a patronus.
"I just sent a message to Moody and the professors, they'll be here shortly." Tonks said.
"We don't have time to wait. If you want to help us Tonks, then you can help us." Ginny said.
The opening to the chamber was still open when the four of them got there.
"I'll go down first." Ginny said.
"Be careful the Basilisk could be on its way." Harry warned.
"B-Basilisk?" Tonks said worried as Ginny dropped down into the opening.
"Is there anything we can do? Hermione asked.
"Not right now, but be ready" Harry said as he jumped down after getting the all clear from Ginny. Daphne and Tonks followed shortly after. Thankfully they made it to the door without encountering the Basilisk. "Everyone be ready. I'm opening the door." Harry warned. "Open" he hissed in parsletongue.
"Tracey!" Daphne called out as soon as she saw Tracey laying on the chamber's floor, nearly in the same spot Ginny had been in the previous timeline. She quickly rushed to Tracey's side. Harry followed her in to the Chamber followed by Ginny and a very cautious Tonks.
"The Diary! Where's the Diary?" Ginny asked when she noticed that it was not nearby.
"I'm surprised that someone was able to find the Chamber so quickly." Came a voice that had haunted the dreams of Ginny Weasley. "I've barely begun the noble work of my ancestor Salazar Slytherin."
"Save it Tom. Nobody else is going to get hurt." Harry said confronting the shade of Tom Riddle.
"Well well if isn't the great Harry Potter." Tom spat. "Tell me how a simple baby could defeat the greatest wizard of all time."
"It was love Tom." Harry countered. "Not that you'd know anything about that."
"Love. What a worthless thing." Tom said disdainfully. "Let's see if love is powerful enough to stop the legacy of Salazar Slytherin." He turned to the large statue of Slytherin. "Speak to me, Slytherin, greatest of the Hogwarts Four."
"Shit! Get behind me and keep your eyes closed!" Ginny ordered as soon as the statue's mouth began to open. She partially changed into her animagus form in order to protect herself from the Basilisk's deadly gaze.
"Get them!" Tom ordered as soon as the Basilisk entered the Chamber.
"Wait! He's not the true heir of Slytherin!" Ginny hissed at the Basilisk in parsletongue. The Basilisk looked between Tom and Ginny confused. "He wants you to attack the true heir!"
"I am the true heir!" Tom angrily "Not some filthy half-blood!" That was apparently all the Basilisk needed to make it decision. It turned towards Harry's group ready to attack,
"REDUCTO!" Ginny shouted as she drew on as much magical energy as she could across the bond. The spell impacted with the side of the Basilisk's face. While most of the impact was stopped by its spell resistant skin, the soft tissue around its eye was not so lucky.
"MY EYE!" It hissed in pain, its head thrashing about. Another reductor curse found its mark on the other eye.
"It doesn't matter if you've blinded it, it can still hear you!" Tom called.
"The three of you, get Tracey out of here!" Harry ordered. "I'll distract the snake."
"Ignore the girls." Tom ordered "Kill Harry Potter!"
Harry dashed towards one of the pipes near the statue of Slytherin attempting to buy the girls time. Navigating the pipes was hard due to their maze-like layout. When he was sure he had gotten away from the snake, he ducked into a smaller passageway.
"Hogwarts as the rightful heir of Godric Gryffindor, I request my birthright." The sword of Gryffindor magically appeared in his hand. Unfortunately asking for the sword was loud enough for the Basilisk to hear him and Harry was forced to run.
While Harry was dealing with the Basilisk, Ginny, Daphne, and Tonks were trying to revive Tracey.
"What's wrong with her? Why won't she wake?" Tonks asked.
"It's the Diary. It's draining the life from her.' Daphne said.
"It doesn't matter. Soon Harry Potter will be dead and the lot of you with him." Tom taunted. HE was too busy to see Ginny walk up to the diary which had been dropped about a dozen feet away from where Tracey lay. Transforming her teeth into Basilisk fangs she bit down on one of the goblin daggers they had brought with them. The dagger glowed green momentarily as the venom from Ginny's fangs was absorbed by the dagger. She then proceeded to repeatedly stab the Diary, releasing all of her anger over the memories of what Tom had done to her.
"NOOOOO!" The phantom Tom roared as he tried to stop her, but in his current state he couldn't do anything but watch as Ginny stab the Horcrux over and over again.
As the phantom faded, Tracey woke up with a start. Harry exited one of the pipes that was too small for the Basilisk to follow him through and ran over to the four girls.
"Where am I?" She asked as she tried to stand.
"You're in Hogwarts but we don't have time to talk." Harry said. "We need to get out of here before..." The Basilisk had come crashing out of the wall near the pipe that Harry had come out of.
"Stop!" Ginny cried. "Your master is dead. There's no reason to continue."
"My master is dead?' the snake hissed sounding confused. "Then I must avenge him!" The basilisk roared before lunging at them. For Harry the world seemed to move in slow motion as he put himself between the Basilisk and the girls. He brought the sword up as the snake's massive jaws grew closer and he stabbed the snake in the roof of the mouth. The sword penetrated the Basilisk's skull and piercing the brain, killing it instantly. The Basilisk reared back and began to thrash wildly before laying still at the foot of the Slytherin statue.
"Harry! Your arm!" Daphne cried as Harry turned around to make sure the girls were ok. Looking down, Harry noticed the Basilisk fang stuck in his arm.
"Dammit! Not again." Was all he managed to say before collapsing.
When Harry opened his eyes, he wasn't in the Chamber of Secrets or the Hospital wing. Instead he was in that white space where he had met death at the end of the first timeline.
"Oh great! I died again." Harry said as he took in his surroundings.
"Close but you didn't go all the way this time." Said a voice harry recognized as Death's.
"What do you mean?" Harry asked.
"You didn't actually die but you came close enough for us to meet and I thought it was important for us to meet. I'm impressed at your progress at stopping Voldemort's rise to power." Death said. "I'm certain that you'll be able to defeat him this time. However you actions in the chamber did have some consequences."
"What do you mean?" Harry asked, unsure of what Death was referring to. Death's only laughed and said.
"I'm certainly not going to ruin the surprise for you."
Harry woke with a start and noticed that this time he was in fact in the hospital wing. Judging by the light streaming in through the windows he figured it was morning.
"Hey you're awake." Ginny said. Harry turned to see her sitting at his bedside.
"How long have I been out?" Harry asked.
"Two days." Ginny replied. "I'll go and get Madam Pomfrey." A few minutes later, Madam Pomfrey arrived with Dumbledore.
"Ah! Good you're awake." Dumbledore. "You don't need to tell us about what happened down there, the girls did an admirable job of telling us about your deeds down in the chamber. However there is an important bit of news I must discuss with you in my office if you feel up to it."
After getting dressed. Harry made his way to the Headmaster's office. He was expecting to be talking alone with Dumbledore. However waiting in the office along with Dumbledore was Ginny, Daphne, Tracey, Tonks, and all of their parents including Sirius.
"Now that Mr. Potter is here. We can begin." Dumbledore said to the assembled group. "I'll try to be brief as I'm aware that some of you have places to be. Simply put, Miss Davis was possessed by an extremely dark artifact belonging to a very dark wizard. The rest, led by Mr. Potter discovered this and went to rescue her and as a result of Mr. Potter's bravery, a soul bond has been forged between them."
"A soul bond?" Molly asked "Like the ones in those stories?"
"I'm afraid so and as a result all four of these witches are now legally married to him." Dumbledore said. All of the parents, minus Sirius were shocked.
"But that can't be Ginny is only eleven! That's much too young to be married!" Molly said on the verge of tears.
"I'm afraid magic doesn't see it this way." Dumbledore replied.
"How did you figure this out?" Sirius asked.
"There's a spell to detect soul bonds." Dumbledore said drawing his wand and preforming a quick incantation. Harry and the four witches began to glow with a golden light. "When Miss Davis came to us claiming she could hear voices in her head. We were afraid that she could possibly be possessed still. When she said the voices were different we preformed that same incantation and discovered the bond between them. Soul bonds are known to form when someone selflessly rescues another, like when Mr. Potter stood in between the Basilisk and the girls."
After the explanation had been given Dumbledore allowed the families a chance to get to know one another. Both the Tonks and the Davis parents had warned Harry about mistreating their daughters despite Dora protesting that she was a fully trained auror who could handle herself. Lord Greengrass had taken the news extremely well.
"You know we were going to offer a contract between you and Daphne. However it looks like Fate had other ideas. Welcome to the family son." He said shaking Harry's hand.
Suddenly Lucius Malfoy bared into the office with a nervous looking Dobby in tow.
"Ah Lucius what a surprise. What brings you here today?" Dumbledore asked
"The Board of Governors has gotten wind of what has been happening here. The attack at Halloween and now a student has been kidnapped? The Board is worried that you can no longer protect the student here." Lucius said.
"Well I shall have to inform the board that the culprit has been caught and the student was rescued." Dumbledore. Lucius looked surprised at this bit of news.
"A-and who was the culprit?" He asked stuttering.
"Lord Voldemort." Dumbledore said. Most of the occupants in the room flinched. "Although he acted through another this time."
"Yes, well, this doesn't change the fact that there will be a hearing at the end of the month." Lucius said before turning around. "Come Dobby." He ordered. That was when Harry got a mischievous glint in his eye.
"Sir? Do you mind if I take that?" He asked pointing to the remains of the Diary.
"No. not at all go right ahead." Harry took the Diary and went after Lucius.
"Mr. Malfoy wait! You forgot something!" Harry called out as he caught up to Lucius and Dobby. "Here." He said as he handed the Diary to Lucius.
"What is the meaning of this?" Lucius demanded.
"Well it belongs to you or should I say your master?" Harry said. "You see I think you wanted to plant it on the Weasley girl hoping that when it was discovered that she was behind the attacks it would shame Arthur and keep his muggleborn protection act from being passed. The only problem was the fight that day in the bookstore somebody else walked off with it ruining your plan."
"That's an interesting story but that's all it is, a story.' Lucius responded. "You have no proof at all. Now come Dobby!" He said handing Dobby the Diary. When Dobby refused to follow he turned around.
"Master has given Dobby clothes! Dobby is free!" He said opening the diary revealing one of Harry's socks tucked into the pages. Lucius went to curse Harry for costing him his elf but Dobby intervened.
"Mark my words boy, you'll meet an unfortunate end just like your parents." He warned.
"Maybe." Harry said. "But it'll be nothing compared to what's going to happen to Voldemort when I'm done with him." Lucius ignored Harry and walked off.
"That was awesome Harry!" Ginny said. "Now hurry up and get back here. McGonagall is going to show us to our new quarters."
The new quarters Ginny had mentioned were a special apartment originally designed for married students. The only addition had been a floo connection with the ministry allowing Tonks to travel back and forth for work. After McGonagall's tour, Harry, Daphne, And Ginny decided to explain everything to Tracey and Tonks.
"Look there's something we've been hiding from you two." Harry said, "The bond that formed between us. It was already there for Daphne and Ginny and they're not the only ones." At this point the rest of the coven entered the apartment.
"Wait you're saying you have a soul bind with all of them?" Tonks asked.
"Well there's one more but she's at Beauxbatons." Luna said.
"Bloody hell." Tonks said exasperated.
"That's not all." Hermione said. "We've all come back from the future."
How will Tonks and Tracey take the news? Find out next time.
