Morticia Takes Her Medication
Chapter Ten: Waiting
The drive to the hospital was quiet, Penelope was sitting in the passenger seat looking out the front window. Dr Helens would glance over to see Penelope's clenched hands along with a hint of anger express across her face.
"Taking deep breaths help." Dr. Helens said.
Penelope didn't flinch but she began taking deep breaths Dr. Helens sighed contently. She felt so much guilt about this but that would have to wait she had a life to save.
As they pulled into the hospital parking lot Penelope finally calmed down. Her hands were sitting in her lap and her facial feature were back to her normal.
Once the car was in parked it was Dr. Helens turn to sigh as her hands clenched the steering wheel. Shaking off the guilt Dr. Helen's turn the engine off and stepped out of the car. Penelope stepped out as well.
We'll find the family first then I will take care of the rest." Dr. Helens said
Penelope nodded she wanted to say something but she thought it best not to. The two of the simply nodded to each other before walking though the door of the hospital.
Walking down hallway after hallway Dr. Helens and Penelope finally came across the waiting room. Wednesday looked up to see Penelope along side another woman with golden brown hair and green eyes wearing a white doctor's coat.
"Dr. Helens?" Wednesday asked.
"Yes." The female doctor replied.
"They took mother away she was having a hard time breathing." Wednesday said.
"I see." Dr. Helens said thinking a loud.
"What is it?" Wednesday asked.
"Hm is there anything else you noticed about your mother condition?"Dr. Helens asked
Wednesday thought about it for a few minutes before she replied.
"She doesn't have much of an appetite anymore and she has difficultly walking." Wednesday finally said.
"Thank you now leaving everything to me and I will do my best to help your mother. Dr. Helens said in a serious tone.
Wednesday nodded as Penelope sat with everyone and Dr. Helens disappeared down the hall.
Wednesday looked over to her father who was zoned out mumbling something in Spanish. The young one gentle took a hold of his hand.
"Don't worry father mother's doctor is here everything is going to be okay. The child said.
Gomez lightly squeezed his daughters hand upon hearing those words Wednesday was glad her father head her it meant he was still with them. Wednesday then looked around at the rest of her family. Uncle Fester was keeping her brother occupied with the bomb making manuals he brought with him. Lurch was keeping Grandmama at bay so she wouldn't cast any curses on the staff. Then she looked to Penelope she was sitting across from her with her eyes to the ground she looked over to Wednesday and gave her a nod. Feeling a boost of confidence Wednesday continued to remain strong waiting... hoping... for good news.
Hours went by slowly as the Addams waited and waited soon they were the only family left in the waiting room. Penelope remained with them which Wednesday greatly appreciated. It was well into the night when Dr. Helens walked back down hallway and into the waiting room She took a deep breath as she sat down with the family, all eyes were on her but she managed to keep her composure.
"Morticia is resting now, her is breathing much better but her body has been through a lot so she need to rest." Dr. Helens finally said.
"Can we see her now?" Wednesday asked.
"Yes, she's in room 666 just at the end of this hall way the first door to the left." Dr. Helens replied.
Grandmama and Uncle Fester wasted no time in helping Gomez down the hall with Lurch and Pugsley following right behind them. Wednesday stood up to fellow them but noticed Dr. Helens and Penelope not moving an inch. There was something she wanted to ask the doctor and now she could finally get some answers.
"Why did mother get sick?" Wednesday asked letting the words escape her lips.
"An allergic reaction." Penelope said bluntly.
"Correct, the more she ingested the more damage it did until her body couldn't take it anymore. Don't worry she's fine now the medication has been flush from her system." Dr. Helens said.
"Thank you for saving my mother." Wednesday replied.
Dr. Helens merely nodded as Wednesday went to join the rest of her family.
Soon the halls were quiet as Dr. Helens and Penelope remained in the waiting room. The stress and guilt the doctor was trying so hard to fight off was beginning to resurface along with a bit of anger mixed in.
This is all my fault." echoed through Victoria mind.
Soon it became to much to handle and she stood up which prompted Penelope to do the same. It was strange but she was glad Penelope stayed behind with her.
"Well, I better get back to the clinic." Dr. Helens finally said.
"Victoria..." Penelope tired to say.
"No, I have a huge mess I have to clean up." Dr. Helens said forcing it out of her mouth.
Penelope watch in silence as Dr. Helens walked away with her face hidden. Penelope sighed as she watched the emotionally wounded doctor disappear down the hall. Penelope stood there for a moment before walking to room 626.
As she reached the room she decided not to go inside but merely peeked though door frame. She saw Wednesday gently holds Morticia's hand while the rest of the family was fast asleep. Feeling eyes on her Wednesday turned to the door but no one was there.
Penelope was walking down the hallway heading home today was hard a day for everyone but she did know one thing for certain everyone would be fine now Morticia is resting with her family all round her . Just a little more waiting is required for life to return to the way it use to be.
