"Something Bad (Part 2)"
"Blaine, I'm concerned about your well-being," Edgar said, getting closer to Blaine.
"Oh yeah? Why is that?" Blaine said, still typing in his computer, not noticing how close Edgar was getting.
"I mean, with your dad gone and that Kurt guy messing with you… I just want you to be safe…" Edgar said, putting both hands on Blaine's shoulders, causing the shorter boy to stand up and try to get away.
"What do you mean, Edgar? Do you know something I don't?" Blaine asked nervously.
"No, but it always pays to be cautious…" Edgar said, squeezing Blaine's bicep.
"Well, I'm not scared, I mean I can defend myself and I have Sam…" Blaine said, looking at Edgar's hand touching his arm. "What are you doing, Edgar?"
"I don't know, I just feel like I'm looking through a different pair of eyes... I certainly see you in a whole new light," the taller boy said, taking Blaine's glasses off.
"What exactly is that supposed to mean…?" Blaine said, taking a step back.
"I have to confess that I… I find you absolutely fascinating. It's that twinkle in your eye… your wonderfully sexy smile… and your skin is soo…" He got close enough to rub his nose on Blaine's neck, causing Blaine to shiver and not be able to move.
"Edgar, what are you doing?" Blaine asked, staring deeply into Edgar's eyes.
"What I've wanted to do for a very… very long time." Edgar said, bringing his lips closer to Blaine's, but just before their lips met, Edgar stepped back. "Don't you wish… Faggot!"
Somebody saaaaaavee me… A phone started ringing.
"What's going on?" Blaine asked, trying to understand what was going on. He then heard multiple laughs, not just Edgar's.
"I could never love a guy, I've always been in love with Quinn, but I had a blast making you think I could fall for you," Sam said, entering the room and laughing and pointing at Blaine.
"Pathetic beaner, you thought you could land a hottie like Sam?" Kurt came in with Ryder holding his hand, both of them laughing.
Somebody saaaaaavee me… the phone rang again.
"He's so stupid he can't even realize that this is all a dream" Ryder said, laughing.
Somebody saaaaaavee me… the phone rang again, this time jolting him. Blaine answered, not looking at who was calling.
"Hello?" He answered the phone, confused and rubbing his eyes.
"Hey, B, I've been calling you all night… are you ok?" Sam asked over the phone.
"Sammy?" Blaine said yawning. "I started watching Smallville when I got home from Breadstix and then I fell asleep… I had the weirdest dream… sorry. What time is it?"
"It's 10:00 P.M… What did you dream about? Did you… dream a little dream of me?" Sam asked, singing the last part. "I just wanted to check on you and remind you about Friday! I can't wait!" he said, excited, almost shouting.
"I'll tell you about the dream later…. And about Friday… I invited Edgar…" Blaine said, waiting for Sam to respond.
"Are you insane!? Why would you invite him!?" Sam sounded incredibly mad over the phone.
"I'm just trying to be nice to him, he just lost his mom who was killed by his dad," Blaine said, closing his eyes and waiting for Sam to shout or hang up on him. He felt really bad that he didn't consult this with him first.
"Have you forgotten that not even 24 hours ago he called you a… I can't even repeat it!" Sam said, still enraged.
"Sam, he was in a dark place… I'm not saying I want to be BFFs with him… I just want him to feel like it's gonna be ok…" Blaine said, waiting for Sam to say something.
"Blaine, I don't like Edgar… I don't trust him… Lola used to always say, 'The mouth speaks what the heart is full of'…" Sam said.
"Your nanny was a wise woman, Sam, but I've known Edgar my whole life and he always speaks before he thinks… I don't want to feel hate or hold a grudge against him…" He waited for Sam to say something. "Sam? Are you there!?"
"Yeah… I'm here… If you're fine with it, I'm fine with it…" Sam said, relaxed but sad. "I just wanted to spend some alone time with you, before school's out."
"I promise that I will plan a day where it's only me and you, Sammy, deal!?" Blaine said, smiling through the phone.
"Deal! I'm sorry if I screamed or seemed a little… mmmhmmm, on the edge about Edgar joining us… How about I invite Quinn and more people? That way it will be less awkward?" Sam asked Blaine.
"That's a great idea, Sammy! Hey I'm gonna go… I haven't talked to Santana at all and she hasn't texted me either… I'm kinda worried about her," Blaine said.
"Ok, B, I'll see you tomorrow at school. Need a ride!?" he asked.
"No, thanks, I want to walk… Is that cool!?" Blaine asked.
"Yeah, it's cool! ¡Buenas noches mi angelito!" Sam said, making Blaine smile and blush.
"So I'm your little angel now!?"
"Yes, you are… I haven't felt this good in a long time, man… Thank you for that," Sam said.
"What did I do!?" Blaine asked.
"A lot more than you know, Flaquito, I really love having you in my life… Please never leave me… I don't think I can bear not having you in my life," Sam said, sounding sad and insecure.
"I'll never leave you, Sammy, friends for life, remember!?" Blaine said.
"Friends for life, B. Good night!" he said, hanging up his phone.
Blaine was all smiles and gave a long sigh. He then looked for Santana's name on his phone and dialed her number, but there was no answer.
"That's weird… she always has her phone with her… Better call her house…" Blaine thought to himself as he started dialing her house number.
"Hello?" A woman answered the phone.
"Mrs. Lopez? Hi, this is Blaine… Is Santana home?" Blaine asked.
"Blaine, mijo, I'm so glad you called… Aragorn got lost and Santana has not come out of her room since she came home… She won't open her door and I think she's been crying all this time she's been there," Mrs. Lopez said with a worried voice. "I know it's kind of late… but do you think you can come and try to talk to her!?"
"Of course, I'll be there in a few minutes!" Blaine said as he hung up and talked to his mom to tell her what was going on. She agreed to let him go, but he had to be back soon. As Blaine drove towards Santana's house he saw a boy wearing a jacket, sunglasses, and a cap, running, and he thought it was weird. When he got to Santana's house, he was about to knock on the door when he heard what sounded like cat purring. He looked to the side and found a box with a cat inside. The cat was shaved, and the only hair left on it spelled the word KARMA. Blaine picked the cat up and knocked.
"Mijo, thank you for coming… Is that Aragorn…?" Mrs. Lopez said, taking the cat from Blaine.
"I'm afraid it is… He was on a box outside your house… Do you mind if I take him to Santana's room?" Blaine said, getting the cat back.
"No, go right ahead… Why does it say 'Karma'?" Santana's mother asked Blaine.
"I don't know… Some sick bastard thought it would be funny, I guess…" Blaine said as he made his way to Santana's room.
"Lopez, I have a surprise for you…" he said as he reached her room.
"I don't feel like talking, Blaine, please leave me alone," she answered. When Aragorn heard her voice, he started meowing and purring.
"Is that Aragorn!?" Santana screamed, and she rushed to the door and opened it, taking the cat from Blaine's arms.
"WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO HIM!?" she screamed as she looked at her cat.
"I found him like that outside your house just now…" Blaine said, walking with Santana towards her bed. "Who would do that, Lopez? Karma!?"
"I'm gonna kill that fucking son of a bitch!" Santana said angrily, holding Aragorn.
"Who are you going to kill!? Lopez what did you do….?" Blaine asked, looking at his friend, worried to see how angry and upset she was.
"I went to the pet store with Brittany and Aragorn… me and Britt got in a fight and while we were fighting that fucker got Aragorn," she said with fury in her eyes.
"Ok… why did you get in a fight with Britt? And who got Aragorn?" Blaine asked with a puzzled look in his face.
Santana started to cry and she hugged her cat close to her.
"We fought because I was an idiot… I screamed at her that I didn't like her… While we were at the store she kissed my cheek… I freaked out and that's why we were fighting… Blaine, I messed up big time," she said, crying. Blaine was worried, he had never seen Santana like this.
"Hey, it's gonna be ok," Blaine said, sitting next to Santana and hugging her. "We're gonna fix this, you're gonna talk to Britt and everything is gonna be ok. Aragorn is… ok? I mean his hair will grow back…"
"I'm gonna kill Kurt," she said with hate.
"Kurt!? How do you know he did this?" Blaine said, standing up.
"I gave him a haircut…" she said as she placed her cat in his bed. "I had to! He couldn't get away with messing with you and Ryder!"
"SANTANA!" Blaine screamed. Santana shushed him.
"Quiet! I don't want my parents to hear us!" she said as she grabbed him and sat him on her bed. "Me and Ryder cut his hair and that's why he shaved it all off… I told him that I was just giving Karma a little help… I saw him today and he told me that 'sometimes you have to give Karma a little hand.'… That fucker messed with the wrong girl!"
"Lopez, listen to yourself! You have to stop! This will not end well! Let it go! He is so not worth it, let's focus on getting Brittany to talk to you and leave Kurt alone," Blaine said, trying to reason with Santana.
"I'll never be able to be with her, I said some messed up things to her and I know she will never forgive me… Plus my parents will never accept me… I can't, Blaine…" Santana said, putting her head on Blaine's shoulder.
"Go to sleep, you had a long day," he said, kissing his friend's head. "We'll figure something out tomorrow, and please forget about Kurt, he's not worth it."
"I can't promise anything, but you're right, I need to sleep… My head is hurting like crazy… I'm just glad to have Aragorn back!" she said as she went into the restroom to shave off what remained of her cat's hair. "I'll see you tomorrow, Andrade. Thanks for checking on me… You're like the brother I never had," she said, hugging Blaine. "Now get out of here and let me sleep."
"Ok, tough girl, I love you too, sister. Get some rest and we'll talk tomorrow," Blaine said as he made his way to his car to head home.
Friday
"She still hasn't called you back?" Blaine asked Santana as the girl drove him and Edgar to the movie theater.
"Who hasn't called you back?" Edgar asked from the backseat.
"None of your beeswax, Bizarro!" Santana started calling him that since he looked like Clark Kent, but she said he was Clark's evil twin.
"I know you don't like me, but I really am trying my best to let you see that I'm not who you think I am…" Edgar said, trying to get on Santana's good side.
"Don't worry about me liking you, and you can stop trying… I will never like you. My psychic Mexican third eye never lies to me, and it's telling me that you are an asshole," Santana replied.
"Look, there's Sam and the rest," Blaine said, pointing towards the entrance and trying to break the tension between Edgar and Santana. Sam, Kurt, Quinn, Sugar, Sebastian, Ryder, Mercedes, Puck, Jake, Marley, Kitty, Artie, Lauren, Rachel, and Finn were standing waiting for them.
"She didn't come, neither did Mike," Santana said with a sad tone in her voice.
"That doesn't mean anything, Lopez, cheer up!" Blaine said as he got out of the car.
"I won't try anymore, just know that I'm not who you think I am," Edgar said as he got out of the car and went towards the group of people.
"I can't stand him! Why did you have to invite him?" Santana asked, clearly upset and annoyed.
"I just don't want to hold grudges, Lopez, and I really don't want things to be awkward at home," Blaine said as he closed the door and started to walk with Santana.
"Just be careful, Blaine, you can be so naïve… I don't want you to get hurt… I'm here for whatever you need… All right?... Santana said as she walked along with Blaine.
"Thanks, amiga… Are you going soft on me?… Don't get me wrong, I love it! But this is soo unlike you!" Blaine said, smiling at Santana.
"Dumbass!" she said as she playfully punched his arm. "You like it rough then, huh? I'm gonna have to talk to Trouty about your, ummm, preferences…" she said, winking at Blaine, making the boy blush.
"Blaine!" Rachel yelled, making her way to the boy. "We're not going to have any time to get to sing together this year, but I want you to know that I love your voice, and I am really looking forward to singing with you next year! I'm here for whatever you need!" she said, smiling and linking her arm with Blaine's.
"Thanks, Rachel! I've always admired your voice, and I am also looking forward to singing with you!" Blaine said as they all made their way to where everybody was at.
"Hey, B, so word got out and everybody decided to come…" Sam said, rolling his eyes and smiling at the same time.
"Hey, dude, no problem… In the end it's like… the more the merrier!" Blaine said, smiling at Sam, hoping he would get the reference.
"I love the Clueless reference, but I hate the dude thing…" Sam said in a serious voice, as they separated from the group and made their way into the theater.
"I'm sorry. I didn't want to call you Sammy in front of everyone," Blaine said in a hushed voice.
"Ok… I see… We're gonna have to fix that sooner rather than later… I know we're not an item or anything like that, and yeah, not everybody knows that we are getting to know each other better… Ok, just don't call me dude… please!" Sam said, looking into Blaine's eyes.
"Ok, ok," Blaine said, smiling at Sam. "Hey, I hope you don't have plans for tomorrow… I planned a full day of things for us to do… I mean, if you still want to spend some time before school's out…" Blaine said, blushing and looking down.
"About that… I invited Kurt… I hope you don't mind…" Sam said, wincing.
"WHAT!? Why did you do that!" Blaine said with his eyes almost coming out of their sockets.
"Gotcha! Not much fun inviting other people, huh?" Sam said, raising his eyebrows repeatedly just to mess with Blaine.
"You suck, DUDE, plus I knew you were lying all along…. So I didn't fall for it," Blaine said with a smirk on his face.
"DUDE!? Fine, I'll let it slide this time… Let's go, movie's about to start," Sam said as both boys made their way towards the theater.
Behind them everybody was getting ready to hand their tickets to the usher.
"Sugar, aren't you gonna introduce me to your new friend?" Kurt said as he made his way to where Edgar and Sugar were standing.
"Kurt, this is Edgar, he's Blaine's childhood friend. Edgar, this is my friend Kurt," Sugar said as both boys shook hands.
"You're really handsome, Edgar. Were you and Blaine an item…" Kurt started to ask, but he was interrupted by Sugar.
"Kurt!" she screamed as she put her hand on her forehead, embarrassed by what Kurt had just asked.
"I'm not into guys, I love girls," he said, winking at Sugar. "But Blaine and I have been best friends since we were little."
"You're not offended that I thought you and Blaine were together, are you? I mean it's not like you're a homophobe, right?" Kurt asked Edgar.
"No, I'm not a homophobe… I accept everyone for who they are," Edgar said, looking into Kurt's eyes and trying to figure out what he was up to.
"Awesome, then we can be friends! Are you going to school with us next year?" he asked as the three of them started walking towards the theater.
"Yeah, that's the plan," Edgar answered. "Chiquita, can you save me a seat? I have to go to the restroom before the movie starts," he said, smiling at Sugar.
"Ok…" she answered, mesmerized by the deep blue color of Edgar's eyes.
"I'll come with! I have to wash my hands, and get some snacks. Sugar, do you want anything?" Kurt asked. "Sugar… Hello?" he said, snapping his fingers in Sugar's face.
"What? Oh yeah, restroom and snacks… Um, I mean, yeah, get me some Skittles please!" she said, blushing, as she started to look for money in her purse.
"It's my treat, princesa," Edgar said as he and Kurt made their way to the restroom.
"Damn, Edgar! You got game!" Kurt said as they both walked towards the restroom. Edgar just rolled his eyes and went into an empty stall. When he came out, Kurt was standing by the sink, waiting for him.
"You didn't have to wait for me," Edgar said as he started to wash his hands.
"Ok, let's cut the crap… I know that Blaine had feelings for you and that you shut him down," Kurt said, looking at his reflection on the mirror. "I think we can work together…"
"What do you mean?" Edgar replied, looking into Kurt's eyes through the mirror.
"I can't stand Blaine, he came between Sam and I… I will do anything to keep them apart. Let's help each other," Kurt said, raising an eyebrow.
"What's in it for me?" Edgar asked, drying his hands.
"I'll do whatever you want, even pay you," Kurt said, turning around and following Edgar.
"I could use the cash… Plus Blondie and I have an unsettled score. Let's meet tomorrow. I heard Blaine tell Lisa that he was going out with Sam all day tomorrow. Let's meet at the park in front of the school tomorrow and talk about it," Edgar said, walking towards the concession stand.
"This is gonna be epic!" Kurt said and then giggled, causing Edgar to roll his eyes and just keep walking.
Inside the theater, the whole gang was waiting for the movie to start.
"I thought I would see you at the movies, I really miss talking to you," Santana texted Brittany, waiting for a text that never arrived. She put her phone down and turned to where Blaine and Sam were sitting and saw how happy they looked together.
"Hey, I'm gonna go. If Sam can't take you home call me and I will pick you up. I'm ok… Don't worry about me, I just don't feel like being around people." She hit send and waited for Blaine to look up so she could wave goodbye. When Blaine got the text he looked towards Santana, making a sad face and waving at her.
"I'll call you when I get home. I love you, amiga." She bumped into someone as she read Blaine's text on her cell phone.
"Watch where you're going, lezbo!" Kurt said in an irritated voice with his shirt drenched in Coke.
SLAP!
"That's for calling me a lezbo!" she said as she pushed him and slapped his other cheek. "And that's for Aragorn. Stay away from me, Kurt, scorned women ain't got nothing on a pissed off Mexican from Lima Heights Adjacent," she screamed as she left, leaving Kurt drenched in Coke and with 2 red hand prints on his cheeks.
"She's right. I've heard that saying, 'Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned,' but it's obvious that Hell has not seen a pissed off Mexican woman," Edgar said, laughing at Kurt.
"SHUT UP! Fucking Santana will pay for this! I'm gonna go home. I'll see you tomorrow at the park, be there at 10 A.M.," Kurt told Edgar, as he made his way towards the exit, pushing everyone that got in his way.
After the movie ended the whole club gathered outside and talked about it. Some liked it, some didn't. Sam said it was not as good as the other ones, but he still liked it. Everybody was laughing and having a good time. Until Rachel opened her mouth and reminded them of Nationals.
"Enjoy your weekend, guys, because Monday we go back to our hectic rehearsal schedule," she said, leaning her head on Finn's shoulder.
"Berry is right, guys, we need to give it our all! I don't want another New York fiasco…" Mercedes said, looking at Rachel and Finn.
"Ok, ok cool it… It won't happen again… at least not from our part…" Finn said, looking at Sam and Blaine and making Sam blush.
"What happened in New York?" Blaine asked, making the whole club laugh.
"Yeah, what happened?" Sebastian asked.
"Beep, beep, beep. Back this bitch up. What the hell is preppy doing here? I've been wanting to ask that since the movie started," Mercedes said.
"I invited him… We all know what he's going through, and I thought if he felt part of a group, it would make him feel a little better about himself…" Ryder said, smiling and winking at Sebastian.
"Kurt told me what happened. I can't believe your so-called 'friends' turned against you when they found out you're gay. Don't worry, boo, we're here for you and Kurt will help you with all your gay issues. He's just so thoughtful that way," Mercedes said, smiling at Sebastian.
"Yeah, he is…" Sebastian said, looking at Ryder, wondering what exactly Kurt had told the Glee club.
"Are you going to join the glee club?" Lauren asked.
"I would like to… I'll talk to Mr. Schue about it," Sebastian answered. "Hey, can you give me a ride home? I live a few houses down from your house."
"Sure! I'm taking Ryder with me, he needs help with his English homework… You can hang with us if you'd like," Lauren said, getting her keys out of her purse.
"I don't mind. How are you doing in your English class?" Ryder asked.
"Really good, I love to write! I write poems and short stories, my teacher says that I should pursue it and be a writer," he said, blushing. He didn't know why, but talking to Ryder had that effect on him.
"That's great! I need all the help I can get, like what the hell is a comma splice and a run-on sentence? You know what… don't answer that, I don't really care all I want to do is get this research paper done so I don't flunk this class," Ryder said.
Everybody said their goodbyes and went their way.
"So, do you want to go to the comic book store?" Sam asked Blaine as they walked towards Sam's truck with Edgar.
"I would love to, BUT..." Blaine said, stopping so that Edgar could get ahead and he and Sam could talk alone, "I need to finish planning our day tomorrow."
Sam flashed one of his signature smiles at Blaine. "I can't wait! Can you tell me what we're gonna do?"
"No, sir, you have to wait… It's a surprise, and I really hope you like it…" Blaine said, sounding doubtful and a little nervous.
"Just being with you is enough for me" Sam said, not smiling, nor blushing, simply looking into Blaine's eyes. Blaine could feel the sincerity in Sam's words and the intensity of Sam's eyes hypnotized him so he wasn't able to move or say anything.
"Ahem," Edgar cleared his throat. "Can we go home now?"
Sam and Blaine smiled at each other and started walking towards Sam's truck.
Lopez Household
"We need to talk," Santana's father said with his arms crossed, standing next to Santana's bed.
"What's going on, papi?" Santana said, sitting up. Her dad was clearly upset.
"What happened the other day at the pet store? Don Carmelo just called to check on you. He says you went to his store with a girl and it seemed like you had a fight with her. Why did you fight with a girl, and who is that girl?" Mr. Lopez asked.
Santana got nervous and started to stutter. "I, I, I… Why are Hispanic men such gossips?"
"Santana Maria Lopez, do not change the subject! Did you know that now his employees are saying that the fight looked like a lovers' quarrel? Is there something you want to tell me?" Mr. Lopez asked, sitting on Santana's bed.
"Are you kidding me!? Aragorn was taken from the store. Brittany was supposed to watch him while I went to get some food, she got distracted, and someone took him. I got upset and yelled at her, papi. You know us Mexicans and our tempers… I mean look at you, you're mad already and you just hung up with Mr. Gossip," she said, trying her best to have her dad believe her lie.
"I don't need to tell you that homosexuality is a sin, and we both know where sinners go. I feel sorry for Blaine because he's a nice kid, but the path he chose is leading him straight to hell. Santana, I love you, but I don't know how I would react to having a daughter that chooses that lifestyle," he said, getting up and walking towards the door. "And as for Brittany, she is no longer welcome into this house."
"Whatever you say, dad," Santana said, looking down and trying her best not to cry in front of him.
"Oh, and another thing... Who took the cat?" he asked, turning around to face his daughter.
"I don't know. Some idiot that thought that it would be funny," she said, getting under the covers. "I had a long day, papi, I'm gonna go to sleep."
"Good night, hija. I love you," her dad said, kissing her forehead.
"Good night," Santana said, turning to the other side and closing her eyes. As soon as she heard the door to her room close, she broke down and started to cry, cursing the day she was born. She got out of her bed and locked herself in her bathroom. She looked at her reflection and couldn't help but sing…
(Reflection by Lea Salonga)
(Performed by Santana Lopez)
Look at me,
I will never pass
For a perfect bride,
Or a perfect daughter
Can it be
I'm not meant to play this part?
Now I see
That if I were truly to be myself,
I would break my family's heart
She thought of all the times her dad spoke negatively of homosexuality and how her mom would just stay quiet and nod, agreeing with him.
Who is that girl I see
Staring straight back at me?
Why is my reflection someone I don't know?
Somehow I cannot hide
Who I am, Though I've tried
When will my
Reflection show who I am inside?
She then remembered her brief time with Brittany and how she felt genuine happiness, happiness she had never experienced before.
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside.
She went back to bed and asked God why she had to go through this, why if it was so wrong did he make her this way. She wanted to scream at the top of her lungs, but she did not want to have to explain to her parents the reason for her cries.
Saturday Morning
"Hey, I'm outside. Are you ready?" Blaine asked Sam over the phone.
"Yeah, I'll be out in a minute!" Sam said, hanging up his phone and getting his backpack and guitar. He walked out and locked the front door. It was still dark and he had no clue why Blaine wanted to hang out this early in the morning, since he was not a morning person.
"Looking good, Mr. Evans!" Blaine said as Sam got in the front seat after putting his backpack and guitar in the back seat.
Sam chuckled and put his seatbelt on. "So, where are we going so early that the sun is not even out yet?"
"A little birdie told me that you had a thing for sunrises… So I decided to start our day watching the sunrise… To be honest, I can't remember the last time I saw one," Blaine said, driving towards their destination.
"Is the little bird's name Quinn? She's the only one that knows my 'thing' for sunrises…" Sam asked as he messed with the car's radio. "B, you didn't have to wake up so early just to see a sunrise with me."
"Sam, I wanted to! I really did! Ever since we started talking, I don't mind waking up early, in fact I look forward to opening my eyes and start the day." Blaine said, slapping Sam's hand when he heard a song he liked. Sam took advantage of the opportunity and grabbed Blaine's hand. He intertwined his fingers with Blaine's and smiled at him.
"The sun will be up in a few minutes. Where exactly are we going?" Sam asked, looking out the window.
"Fine, since you can't wait… We're going to the lake. I figured that we could watch the sunrise and then spend the day at the lake fishing and then we could have a picnic… Is that lame?" he asked, letting go of Sam's hand to grab the steering wheel with both hands to make a turn.
"LAME!? Are you kidding me? That's like the coolest, most awesomest way to spend the day! I love to fish!" Sam said taking Blaine's hand again.
Blaine looked at him and smiled. "I'm glad you do. I used to go fishing with my dad a lot, I haven't done it since he passed away," he said with his voice breaking.
"Hey, hey please don't cry. We can go back and do something else, I don't want to see you sad," Sam said, wiping a tear from Blaine's eye.
"No, it's ok, for real! It's just that I miss him… And I wanted to do this with you," Blaine said as he parked his car. Sam just smiled as he got out of the car, taking his guitar with him. "Let's go watch the sunrise, we'll get the rest of the stuff later."
"I don't know how many sunrises I've seen from this lake, but this will be my first sunrise with someone else," Sam said as he grabbed Blaine's hand.
"You never brought Quinn or another girlfriend with you?" Blaine said, stopping to make sure he was understanding Sam.
"No, I never brought her… and she was the only one… no other exes," Sam said, pulling Blaine's hand. "This is my spot," he said as he made his way under a big, oak tree.
"This is beautiful!" Blaine said as he sat next to Sam, under the tree. "So, as I was saying when we got here… I wanted to do this with you… After my father died, I lost the will to live. I mean I would wake up and not have the motivation to get up and start my day. The only thing that would make me get up is my mom. I didn't want to worry her so I would pretend that everything was fine, but in reality I felt like I was dying inside. Next month is my birthday, and it will also be my dad's death anniversary… I can't believe that it will be a year already. The first time I saw you, Sam… It felt like I was living again… We didn't even talk, but just seeing your face in the hallway or during lunch, gave me the will to get up in the morning and start my day," Blaine said, looking down to keep his tears hidden.
"You know why I love sunrises?" Sam asked as he grabbed Blaine's chin with his left hand and wiped his tears with his right hand. "I feel like it's a new beginning… Like God or life…. or the Universe, whatever you believe in, is giving you a second chance. Whatever is in the past doesn't matter anymore. Yeah, it's still there, and it taught us whatever we had to learn, but this new day is an opportunity to try again. It amazes me, I mean I'm just this insignificant being but somehow seeing this or any sunrise makes me feel like I am loved enough by a higher being… loved enough to get another go at this crazy life," Sam said, now with tears in his eyes.
"That was beautiful, Sammy," Blaine said, hugging the taller boy. "I asked you to bring your guitar because I found a song that really captures what I want to tell you… I know that we're just getting to know each other, but this is how you make me feel…" Blaine got the music sheet and handed it to Sam. Blaine was sitting next to Sam holding the sheet music while Sam played, and both gazed at the sunrise.
(A New Day Has Come by Celine Dion)
(Performed by Blaine Andrade & Sam Evans)
Blaine: I was waiting for so long / For a miracle to come / Everyone told me to be strong / Hold on and don't shed a tear
So through darkness and good times /I knew I'd make it through / And the world thought I had it all / But I was waiting for you
Blaine stared into the sunrise and remembered the day of his father's funeral. The funeral home was full and everyone would go up to Blaine and his mother to give their condolences. Blaine wouldn't say anything; he would just look at his dad's casket. Blaine/Sam: Hush now / I see a light in the sky / Oh it's almost blinding me / I can't believe I've been touched by an angel / With love
Let the rain come down / And wash away my tears / Let it fill my soul / And drown my fears / Let it shatter the walls / For a new sun / A new day has come / A new day has come
When Blaine heard Sam's voice singing along with him he smiled and closed his eyes remembering the first day of school and how he felt the first time he saw Sam. Sam's harmony to Blaine's lead was a match made in heaven.
Blaine: Where it was dark now there is light / Where there was pain, now there's joy / Where there was weakness, I found my strength / All in the eyes of a boy
As Blaine sang that last line he stared deeply into Sam's eyes and Sam smiled singing the harmony to the pre-chorus.
Blaine/Sam: Hush now / I see a light in the sky / Oh it's almost blinding me / I can't believe I've been touched by an angel / With love
Let the rain come down / And wash away my tears / Let it fill my soul / And drown my fears / Let it shatter the walls / For a new sun / A new day has come / A new day has come
Finishing the song, Sam put down his guitar and leaned in for a kiss. Blaine was caught by surprise but didn't protest. The sun was fully risen, shining bright in the sky.
"Best. Sunrise. Ever," Sam said, putting his forehead together with Blaine's.
"Totally. I guess I'm a morning person from now on," Blaine said, causing Sam to laugh. "So what does this mean?"
"I don't know…" Sam said, blushing. "I've wanted to do this for a long time, but I'm scared of losing you if we rush into it… Is it ok if we wait the three weeks we had agreed on? I just want to make sure that you feel what I feel."
"Sounds good to me," Blaine said, resting his head on Sam's shoulder and feeling secure in Sam's embrace.
"I wanted to share something with you, something only my parents know… I know that you think I'm really insecure and I'm always saying that I'm scared of losing you… Well, the reason for that is that… my mother abandoned me when I was six months old," Sam said with a sad voice. "The Evanses are not my birth parents. I never met my biological dad, and my birth mother was a drug addict that left me with the Evanses." Blaine held tighter onto Sam. "My own mother did not want me, she left me, and Mary and Dwight took me in and raised me as their own son." By now Sam was crying.
"Sammy," Blaine said, sitting up and hugging Sam, letting him cry on his shoulder. "I will never leave you, I promise. Your parents love you and even though they are not your biological parents, they did a great job raising you. I know they love you to death!"
"Yeah, they're awesome," Sam said, resting his head on the tree. "My real mom was sixteen when she had me, she used to go to my par… Mary and Dwight's church."
"You can call them parents, Sam, that's who they are," Blaine said, putting his hand on Sam's shoulder.
"I know, it's just I didn't want to confuse you, but yes I love them and they are my parents. Jane is her name… she was a member at my parents' church, and they used to babysit me. They had just gotten married and didn't have any kids. Jane was really close to my mom and when she found out she was pregnant my mom supported her. Jane's boyfriend… my dad was a drug addict too that got Jane hooked on drugs. She did drugs when she was pregnant with me." Sam's voice sounded hoarse and it was hard for him to talk. He avoided eye contact with Blaine, he felt embarrassed. "When I was born I was dependent on drugs, I went through withdrawals. Jane was living with my parents, they would take care of me while she would work. She kept doing drugs and one day she decided to sign me over to my parents. They haven't heard from her since then. I didn't know I was not their son, I found out when I turned eleven… I overheard them talking and I ran away from home. Mary and Dwight looked for me until Dwight… I mean my dad went to the church we used to go to. It was the middle of the night so it was closed but I was there, sitting on the steps of the front door" Sam was sobbing and Blaine kept holding his hands and wiping the tears from his eyes.
"What did he say when he found you?" Blaine asked Sam.
"Nothing, he just hugged me and cried with me. I told him I felt alone and unwanted. He hugged me tighter and said that he would always be there for me, that he loved me. I asked him if I could still call him dad and he held my face in his hands and kissed my forehead and said that nothing had changed, that he would forever be my dad and I his son," Sam said, turning to look into Blaine's eyes for the first time since he started his story.
"Your dad sounds like an amazing father. You are lucky to have him in your life," Blaine said, smiling at Sam. "You are never alone, Sam. I will always be here for you," he said, hugging Sam, running his hand through the taller boy's blond hair.
"Thanks, flaquito, I'm here for you too," Sam said, kissing the top of Blaine's head. "Should we start fishing?"
"Let's do it!" Blaine said. "Last one to get to the car has to bring all the stuff down!" Blaine said as he got a head start running towards his car.
"Cheater!" Sam screamed as he ran behind Blaine, beating him to the car. "Cheaters never win…" Sam said sticking his tongue out.
"Blah blah blah" Blaine said, rolling his eyes and opening the trunk to get the fishing gear.
"Come here, you!" Sam said as he picked Blaine up and spun with him, kissing his lips one more time. "Thank you for being you, you truly make me happy," Sam said, rubbing his nose with Blaine's.
"I love Eskimo kisses," Blaine said, giving Sam another one.
Lima Park
"What took you so long?" Kurt asked, tapping his foot on the sidewalk.
"Calm your ass, I just woke up," Edgar said, stretching and yawning. "So what did you have in mind?"
"I have a feeling that Sam will sing to Blaine after nationals and ask him to be his boyfriend… We need to be ready for that. You have to be super nice to Blaine, make him think that you love him… Even if Blaine doesn't believe you, Sam with all his insecurities will see you as a threat and I have an ace up my sleeve… Just be ready for whatever happens because shit is about to hit the ceiling," Kurt said, laughing.
"Shut the fuck up, faggot, Sam better suffer with your little plan… if he doesn't there will be hell to pay and I always collect," Edgar said with a devious look on his face.
"Do you hate Blaine?" Kurt asked Edgar as they made their way to a bench.
"No, I don't hate him, but it's fun making people suffer. Wouldn't you agree?" he asked, smirking.
"I guess we have that in common," Kurt said, chuckling.
"So did Sam ever fuck you? Or did you fuck him?" Edgar asked putting his hands in the back of his head.
"No, not even a kiss. Believe it or not I am still a virgin… I have done some things but nothing major. But if Sam can't be mine, he sure as hell won't be for Blaine," Kurt said with rage.
"Whatever… Keep me posted on any developments and I will do the same. Oh, I need money. Give me fifty dollars," Edgar said, putting his hand out.
"Are you insane!? Fifty dollars!?" Kurt shrieked.
"You want my help?" Edgar said as he got up.
"Fine! Here," Kurt said, handing Edgar the money.
Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center of Lima
"This is it, this is the last night we'll be together until you come back from Honduras! When is your plane taking off?" Quinn said as she hugged Sam while they got ready for their performance.
"I know! Tonight will be a night to remember! My plane leaves at eleven a.m., but I have to be there at nine a.m. Quinn, we are gonna win tonight, I just know it, and also tonight is the night, Quinn. I will finally ask Blaine to be my boyfriend!" Sam had never looked happier than he did that night.
"You never told me how you're gonna ask him out," Quinn said, brushing her hair. "Oh, and I am taking you to the airport, and maybe a certain brunette can go with us..?"
"That would be awesome, Q! And about tonight, all I can tell you is that it will be epic! I found the perfect song, I added some parts and I will perform it at tonight's party after nationals. Can you believe that it has been three weeks since I asked him to let me spend more time with him?" Sam asked Quinn while he checked his bag to make sure all the wardrobe and props were there for nationals.
"Yes! That was a special night for me too because I got my best friend back!" Quinn said, smiling at Sam.
"Edgar?" Kurt asked through the phone as he hurried down the hall, where he had just eavesdropped on Quinn and Sam's conversation. "Make sure you're there for the after-nationals party. It's showtime!"
"Great, I'll be there. What's the next step?" Edgar asked Kurt.
"Blaine is not going to accept Sam's proposal because he's in love with you," Kurt said, laughing.
"Damn, Kurt, you are one evil bitch! I love it! Stupid Fish Lips will get what's coming to him," Edgar said, joining Kurt in laughter.
Minutes before Nationals
"Can I talk you?" Brittany asked Santana.
"Hi, of course you can," Santana responded with a smile on her face.
"It's been almost three weeks since we stopped talking, and I can't take it anymore… Maybe we rushed into it, and I know that you're not ready to accept who you are… I guess what I'm trying to say is, sorry I hurt you," Brittany said, looking down.
Santana got up from her chair and went to hug her. "No need to apologize, I acted like a bitch and you didn't deserve to be treated that way. I'm the one that should apologize to you."
"How about we forget the whole thing and go back to being friends?" Brittany said.
"I would love that!" Santana replied.
"Are you girls ready!?" Blaine came in in his Top Gun attire.
"Damn, Andrade, you look sexy as hell!" Santana said, spanking her best friend, which made Brittany laugh.
"Lopez! Stop it!" Blaine said, laughing "You guys look so hot! Moulin Rouge has nothing on you girls."
"I miss hanging out with you guys, let's do something tomorrow… maybe have a John Hughes movie marathon?" Brittany asked as she grabbed Santana's and Blaine's hands.
"Sounds good to me! I want to take Sam to the airport, but after that I'm free!" Blaine said, squeezing both girls' hands.
"I can't believe Trouty is leaving for Honduras tomorrow," Santana said, looking at Blaine.
"Yeah, he'll be gone for two months," Blaine said, making a sad puppy face.
"Awww, poor Blainey Boo! Don't worry, we'll be here to make you feel better!" Brittany said, spanking Blaine.
"Ouch, seems like you learned some tricks from Lopez," Blaine said, winking at Santana.
"Guys, let's do this. That trophy is ours," Mr. Schue said as he got everyone together. "Come on guys, show circle!" He waited for everybody to come together. "I want to say that this has been an amazing year and you guys make me proud. Brittany, Blaine, even though you guys have only been with us for about a month, you're already family and we love you. Guys, let's go out there and do what we do best! Ready on three…Aaaaaa… mazing!"
The girls went first, and everyone loved their performance. The boys got everyone on their feet with their mash-up, and all the girls were hollering at them because of their wardrobe and moves. Rachel's rendition of "The Way We Were" brought everyone to tears. As Rachel sang, each one of the glee club members came out holding a picture of a lost loved one. Blaine came out with a picture of his dad, Lauren with her brother's picture, Sam with Lola's. All of them were crying and holding their pictures. At the end of the song, the whole auditorium got up and applauded their beautiful tribute.
After Party
"First place!" Finn shouted as he held the trophy in the choir room. "We rock, guys, we did it!"
"All of you were wonderful! Please sit down. As you guys know I like to do this after party so that we can have one last get-together before summer vacation. As usual, if anybody wants to share anything through song or simply just say anything, the floor is available. But before that… I want to honor this year's MVP. Finn, drum roll please….. MERCEDES JONES!" the teacher shouted over Finn's drum roll. "Mercedes, you were absolutely amazing during the performance, but I also loved how supportive you were during rehearsals with the girls and how you pushed them to come out of their comfort zone and belt those notes out. I want to thank you and give you this year's MVP award."
"Wow, thank you so much, Mr. Schue!" Mercedes said as she hugged her teacher and grabbed her star trophy. "Berry, you were right. Being part of something special, makes you special!" She started to cry as she held her trophy in her hands. "You guys are like a family to me and Mr. Schue, because of you I came out of my shell and got the confidence I lacked. Thank you so much. I love you!"
"Give it up for Mercedes Jones," Mr. Schue said, clapping along with everybody… everybody but Blaine. Ever since they left the convention center his mind was somewhere else.
"Hey, you ok, Andrade?" Santana asked, poking his ribs. "You look like you just saw a ghost."
"What?" he asked, coming out of his trance. "Yeah, I'm good!" he said, forcing a smile. He couldn't help but remember what had happened right after their performance of "Danger Zone/Old Time Rock and Roll."
One Hour Earlier.
"Hey, I have something to show you," Kurt said as he pulled Blaine to the side of the backstage, where no one could hear what he was about to say.
"What do you want?" Blaine sighed as he crossed his arms, showing how annoyed he was.
"Listen to this," as he pressed play on his cell phone. "I hope I wasn't too obvious when I kissed Britt, though, I mean my parents don't know that I like girls and I don't think I'm ready for that to come out, please promise me that you won't tell anyone. I can't handle that right now, Blaine, and you're the only one that knows… if my parents or my abuela find out… I don't know what would happen. I'm too scared to even think about it."
Blaine was in shock. He tried to say something but Kurt hushed him.
"There's more," Kurt said, winking at him. "Hey look at me, have I ever let you down? I'm your brother and I will never let anything bad happen to you. If you ever decide to tell your parents that you like girls, I will be there with you and if you decide not to tell them I will still be there with you! I love you, you're my best friend more than that, you're the sister I never had."
"What do you want me to do? I'm assuming you're playing this for me to get me to do something," Blaine said with rage in his voice.
"Good boy!" Kurt said petting Blaine's head, causing Blaine to slap his hand away. "No, no no no no, you have to be a good boy, unless you want Santana's secret to come out… Imagine if her parents get a copy of this recording… or what was that beaner word she said? Aguela? Abuela?" Kurt said, enjoying this moment. "Poor Santy. But I know her loyal gay bestie won't let anything bad happen to her… right, beaner?" Kurt asked Blaine, but Blaine just ignored him. "I SAID RIGHT, BEANER!" he yelled, slapping Blaine. "You answer me when I ask you something."
"Right," Blaine said, putting his hand over his cheek.
"I won't release Santana's gayest hits ONLY if you do what I have told you since that God-awful wetback celebration… what's it called?... Oh yeah, Cinco de Mayo." Kurt snorted when he said that. "Leave. Sam. Alone."
"Why are you doing this?" Blaine asked, clenching his hands and speaking though his teeth.
"I told you he was mine, and if he won't accept it then he can't be with anyone," Kurt said, giving Blaine an evil smirk. "Sam is going to ask you to be his boyfriend today, the fucking moron is even singing you a song. Here's what you're gonna do. You're gonna turn him down and say that you're still in love with Edgar. That you never loved him and that Edgar is a better kisser or whatever you want to come up with… I'll let you be creative. I want you to crush Sam. He must suffer for turning me down. You got it Blaine!?"
"I can't do that, Kurt," Blaine said, with tears rolling down his face.
"I guess Santana's coming-out party is tonight then…" Kurt said, raising an eyebrow.
"Fine, I'll do it," Blaine said wiping the tears from his eyes. "Is that all?"
"No, just one more thing," he said as he spat on Blaine's face. "That was for the haircut your bitch friend gave me. Now go and be a good boy."
Present
"Mr. Schue, can I go first?" Sam said with guitar in hand.
"Of course, Sam, the floor is yours!" the teacher said, grabbing a seat next to Emma.
Sam gave a long sigh and started messing with his guitar. "So… as you guys know, tomorrow I will be leaving to Honduras for two months… I'm really excited about that… But I think I'm more excited for what I'm about to do… and say…." he said, smiling at Blaine. The Mexican boy tried his best to keep from crying but he couldn't help it. Sam just thought the tears were for excitement or because he was leaving tomorrow.
Kurt looked at Blaine and showed him his phone. Blaine just looked down.
"I wrote this song for the person that I love the most in this world… I think he loves me too… I'm almost one hundred percent sure that he feels the same way… Oh yeah… I'm bisexual… Anyway after I finish singing the song I will be one hundred percent sure if he feels the same way… Blaine, this is for you."
(When Did You Fall {New Cozy version} by Chris Rice)
(Performed by Sam Evans)
You're all smiles and silly conversations Was it at the coffee shop? Have you been waiting long? When did you fall in love? Was it at the coffee shop? Or that morning at the bus stop? My lips will be free My lips are free My lips are free
Cause you know this sunny day came just for you
You gel your hair, you smile and you turn your eyes away
Come on tell me what's right with you
Now it dawns on me probably everybody's talking
There's something here I'm supposed to realize
Your secret's out and the universe laughs at its joke on me
I just caught it in your eyes. It's a beautiful surpriseWhen did you fall in love with me? Was it out of the blue?
'Cause I swear I never knew it. When did you let your heart run free?
Have you been waiting long? When did you fall in love with me?
When did you fall in love?Make your way over here, sit down by this fool and let's rewind
Come on let's go back and replay all our scenes
Point out the hints, the clues, the twists and the smiles this time
All the ones that slipped by me
I bet my face is red and you can hear my heart pounding
Well I guess it don't matter now that I realize
'Cause baby I missed it then, but I can surely see you now
Right here before my eyes. You're my beautiful surpriseWhen did you fall in love with me? Was it out of the blue?
'Cause I swear I never knew it. When did you let your heart run free?
Have you been waiting long? When did you fall in love with me?
When did you fall in love?
When you were drenched from your head to toe?
Or the time we went to the lima mall?
The day at the beach, sandy and warm
Or the night with the scary thunderstorm?
I never saw the signs. And we've got to make up for lost time
And I can tell now by the way that you're looking at me
I better finish this song so my lips will be free
Yeah
Have you been waiting long? When did you fall in love with me?When did you fall in love?
And I need to know. When did you fall for me?
Everybody started to clap and cheer for Sam and Blaine. Blaine just sat there with tears in his eyes.
"Flaquito, you drive me crazy. I love you and I just want to know… Will you be my boyfriend?" Sam said, walking towards Blaine and holding his hands.
"Sam… I'm sorry… The song was beautiful… I'm sorry, but I don't love you… I never got over Edgar… He's a really good kisser… I thought I could forget him if I was with you… But it didn't happen that way. I never meant to hurt you," Blaine said between sobs.
The whole choir room went silent.
Sam was astonished and he let go of Blaine's hands. "What are you saying? You used me? You lied to me? When you took me to the lake and you said that I made your life better? That was all a lie!? Why, Blaine? After all I told you? About my past?" Sam was devastated, he wanted to leave.
"I'm really sorry, Sam, I know you will find someone that really loves you," Blaine said, putting his hand on Sam's shoulder.
"Don't touch me! I never want to see you again!" Sam said, storming out of the room. Quinn looked at Blaine and shook her head. She then ran after Sam.
"Edgar, can you take me home?" Blaine asked.
"Let's go, Chaparro," Edgar said, putting his arm around Blaine's shoulder.
"Hold it Andrade! What the hell just happened?" Santana asked Blaine blocking the door.
"Not Now Santana, I can't talk. I have to go" Blaine said pushing Santana out of the way.
"Hunky arms, let's go we need to fix this." She said to Ryder, who was still shocked at what had happened.
When Blaine and Edgar made their way to Blaine's car, Blaine didn't see that Sam and Quinn were standing outside Quinn's car. Edgar winked at Sam and smirked.
"I can't believe I was so stupid!" Sam said punching Quinn's door. "Take me away Quinn, anywhere… I don't want to be here."
"Let's go sweetie." Quinn said as the both got in Quinn's car and drove off.
