Chapter 10

Tabu smiled at the boy who trailed behind him. He pushed open the door to show many bundles of cloths laid out across the floor. "This is where all of the servants sleep, your bed is next to mine". Tabu walked along to the wall at the end of the chamber and pointed to two of the bundles.

Yoh nodded, taking note of where he was meant to sleep. Tabu walked over to a door leading out into a side chamber where a single bath that could fit about six people was filled with murky water. "This is where we can clean ourselves, we are allowed to bathe once every two weeks". Tabu then walked over to a couple of boxes with holes on the lid. "These are the toilets, us slaves take it in turns to empty it once a week" Tabu explained before he grabbed Yoh's wrist and pulled him out of the room and back to where the 'beds' were.

Yoh stared as Tabu brushed his dark brown hair out of his blue eyes. Tabu smiled kindly at Yoh. "Hey Yoh do you want to be friends?" he asked suddenly. Yoh gasped quietly in shock before he smiled back at Tabu, his onyx eyes shining in happiness. "Sure". Tabu laughed joyfully before he pulled Yoh through another door where several large tables were dotted around the room. "This is where we eat" Tabu explained as he pointed to the tables.

Yoh looked around at the room sadly. Tabu noticed this and asked "what's wrong Yoh?" Yoh sighed and rubbed his forehead before replying. "Have you ever wondered what life would be like if we were free". Tabu's eyes softened in understanding. "Yeah I have" he replied quietly.

"Sometimes I wonder what I could have done if I had been free. Maybe I would have a family, friends who I could have fun with. I just don't get why we have to obey others, I mean we are human just like them so why do they get to control us? Why can't we be free like them? Who decided that we can't live our own lives" Yoh ranted frustrated.

Tabu placed a hand on Yoh's shoulder. "I don't know the answers to any of those questions but you know, I believe that one day we will gain back our freedom and then we can live the lives we want and be happy".

Yoh smiled at Tabu. "You're a good friend" he said. "Tabu chuckled. "Thanks but we should get going now, we don't want to get whipped for not doing our jobs" Tabu replied. "Right" Yoh agreed. He turned to leave but Tabu grabbed onto his arm. "One last thing Yoh" he said. "What is it?" Yoh asked.

Tabu looked at the ground nervously. "Well it's about your master, General Adjo. I need your help". Yoh looked at Tabu confused. "What do you need help with?" Tabu looked at Yoh with desperation in his eyes. "Seb and the others believe that he is planning something bad and have asked me to spy on Adjo. The only problem is I can't get close to him to spy on him. Please help me" Tabu pleaded.

Yoh stared wide-eyed at Tabu before he smiled. "Okay I'll tell you everything he does". Tabu gasped. "You really mean that?" Yoh chuckled. "Of course, we're friends right?" Tabu smiled and hugged Yoh tightly. "Thankyou, Thankyou, Thankyou" he repeated gratefully.

"Okay I get that you're grateful and everything but could you please get off, I do like to breathe you know" Yoh gasped out from lack of air. "Oh sorry Yoh" Tabu said as he released Yoh. Yoh returned to normal colour and breathed in. "So we should probably go now". Tabu sweat dropped. "Oh yeah, I almost forgot".

The two boys chuckled as they made their way out of the slave quarters and back to their masters.

"Are you sure this is going to work" Hao asked for the fifteenth time since they had entered the palace. "I hope so" John replied as he cradled the statue in his arms.

They turned a corner and found themselves in front of two large doors made out of solid gold. The doors had hieroglyphs carved all over them and two guards stood at the door handles with swords in hand. "You are here to give a present to the Pharaoh" the first guard observed. "Yes" John replied. "Very well you may enter. But remember, if you do anything to harm the Pharaoh I will personally detach your head from your neck. Am I clear" the second guard warned.

"Crystal clear" John replied nervously. He had gone pale at the hissed threat from the guard. Hao rolled his eyes at the guards once they turned their backs. 'As if I would let petty humans kill me' he thought as the guards opened the door revealing the throne room.

Pharaoh Akhenaten sat upon his golden throne playing with a date he held in his hand. He was wearing a pure white shenti along with a long purple cape. Gold circlets were attached along his arms and he also had gold anklets around his ankles just above his sandals. He wore a large thick golden collar around his neck which was embedded with various different jewels and a large crown made out of gold. The crown was carved into an ankh shape with an eye of Horus on either side.

The man had long black hair that fell to his waist and dark brown eyes that blended with his dark, tanned skin. John gasped as he recognised the ancient Pharaoh sat before him. 'That's Pharaoh Akhenaten, one of the greatest Pharaohs in all Egyptian history' he thought.

Akhenaten looked over at his two guests bored. "What brings you two here?" he asked while rolling the date between his fingertips. John nervously unwrapped the statue. "We have come bearing a present for you, Pharaoh". John knelt to the ground and offered the statue up. Hao reluctantly knelt down also.

Akhenaten curiously eyed the statue with its swirling orb before he slowly raised the date to his mouth and ate it. He waved his hand motioning for the statue to be brought forwards. John approached holding out the statue which the Pharaoh inspected carefully.

After a few minutes the Pharaoh's gaze returned to John. "I will have one of my guards place it in my chambers, now tell me why are you here". John gulped nervously and locked eyes with Hao.

"It's a very long story and it will sound completely ridiculous but if you hear us out to the end we can prove that what we say is the truth" John started. Akhenaten leant back in his throne and raised a brow curiously. "Proceed" he commanded.
