The travel from Twelve to Thirteen was long. We had to stop to get Prim's body and Marvel and I had to make sure we had everything we needed for a few days. When we stopped in Thirteen, I couldn't believe what I saw. I knew it was in ruins from the war, but I never thought I would be standing on skulls of the people I couldn't save. Gale was by my side, as well as Marvel, but Gale was in the same state I was: blaming ourselves for the lives lost. I was glad to get out of there. I wish Peeta had been there with me...
When we landed in Five, I felt even more uncomfortable than ever. We were closer to the Capitol, which meant that there were more peacekeepers, which meant my chance of dying was higher. Most of the peacekeepers were dead, as was Snow, but I wouldn't put it past President Paylor to keep some peacekeepers around just to make sure everyone was safe. I couldn't help but cling to Gale most of the time. I mean, let's face it, I knew his skills and Marvel isn't exactly threatening. This seemed to make Marvel jealous, which I didn't mind too much right now because I'm pregnant and hormonal and I don't really know who I love right now.
We get closer to Hawk's workshop, and as we're approaching it, I see a peacekeeper aiming a gun at me and he yells, "You killed my family!" The last thing I see is Gale and Marvel kneeling around me, and the last thing I feel is pain in my abdomen.
When I wake up, I hear beeping and sounds of machinery. I slowly sit up and see Marvel in front of me. "Hey, baby." He gives me a small smile.
I return a small smile. "Hey." I feel a bit of pain in my abdomen and look down and everything comes rushing back to me. The peacekeeper, the gunshot, the darkness... I tear up and hug Marvel tightly and he gently rubs circles on my back.
"It's okay, Kat. We can always try again." I nod slowly because he's right. I don't need a baby right now anyway seeing as we're still getting settled to life without the Games.
I here Gale and Hawk talking a few steps away from me and look over to see they have laid Prim on a table. I see Hawk press a few buttons and he steps back. "Alright. Now all we have to do is wait."
We all wait in silence until I hear a small gasp and I walk over to Prim as fast as I can. "Prim."
She looks up at me like a deer in headlights. "Katniss? What? Uh... I thought I was dead."
I smile a little. "You were, but I had Hawk bring you back." She smiles and wraps her arms around me gently. "I missed you, Little Duck." She giggles and makes a few quacking sounds before I see another casket next to hers. "Gale? Who's that?"
He looks over at me and rubs his neck nervously. "Uh... No one's. It was already here." I believe him after I see that it's already been opened. I then look back at Prim.
"Ready to go home?" She nods, smiling big. I take her hand and we all get back on the hovercraft. I couldn't sleep so I decided to join Gale in the crew room. "Hey."
He smiles a little. "Hey, Catnip. Couldn't sleep?" I shake my head.
"No. Marvel is up trying to get some papers filed for his work." I walk over to Gale and our hands accidentally brush against each other. I look up at him and take both of his hands gently. "I shouldn't be doing this."
He looks at our hands. "You can, though. You're not married yet, and if you split you don't have to worry about a kid."
I look up at him. "Gale, you know I don't have feelings for you. I don't know who I have feelings for at the moment... I wish I did, but I don't." He touches my cheek and brings my lips gently to his for a short time.
"When was the last time you talked to Peeta?"
"Before we left Thirteen... Before the battle, actually. The last thing I told him was that I was pregnant."
Gale looks at me. "Close your eyes." I look at him hesitantly. "Do it." I obey and close my eyes. "Now picture a white canvas. Picture yourself drawing lines..." I follow his instructions. "Now picture a hand you've drawn. Picture a foot, an arm, hair... Now fill in the space." I do as he tells me. I then realize a familiar person... Peeta. I gasp softly and open my eyes and Gale looks at me. "Who did you see?"
I don't hesitate to answer. "Peeta."
Gale sighs softly. "Go talk to him. Don't keep leading Marvel on. I may not know him that well, but if he's anything like Prim, he'll shatter at the smallest argument you two have." I nod slightly. I know I need to talk to Peeta, even if it's just as friends.
I look up at Gale. "Thank you." I softly kiss him and the door opens.
"Hey, Gale, is Kat-" He stops and Gale and I pull away. I look at Marvel and see he's as shocked as ever.
"Marvel, I-"
"No, Katniss. I get it. Just... Leave me alone." Marvel leaves and goes to who knows where. I run a hand through my hair and leave to find a closet. I don't know how many nightmares I have that night, but I remember one clearly. I lost the three most important men in my life...
Long time! I had an hour while doing laundry at college lol. Sorry I lied in my last update... I wanted to update a lot, but time slipped through my hands. Anywayyyyyyy I do have the next chapter already half written! So that's good! Also I may stop posting on here because this story doesn't seem to be getting too many hits on here... I feel it might get more on Wattpad. I may post on both. Who knows! Anyway, thank you for continuing to read, and please comment/review! :)
