Chapter 10: Victory Party
"Please, Madge?" Gale would look like a child, what with his puppy dog eyes and pleading demeanor if it weren't for his six foot three frame, striking eyes, sharp chin, and his five o' clock shadow that was really just getting out of hand. "You'll have fun, I swear. And if you don't, I'll never make you go to another seam party again."
I was going to say yes either way, but it was fun to see him beg. In a few minutes, I may have him on his knees. I smirked inwardly at that image.
"Nobody wants me there, Gale." I tell him, and honestly, it's probably true. Nobody from town ever gets invited to seam parties, much less shows up at one. We just don't fit in, for some reason. Maybe it's because a lot of people from town think drinking and dancing like a bunch of monkeys just isn't sociably acceptable, but I've always wanted to go, always wanted to see what all of the hulla-baloo was about.
"I do." He answers wittily.
"You're the only one." I scoff.
"No." He shakes his head like a kid, his eyes never leaving mine. "Bristol wants you there, Thom, Derik." He lists, trailing off as if there are more. There aren't. For all I know, he even made up that his own friends wanted me there.
I probably wouldn't go, if I had seen Gale more than twice in the past two weeks, but I hadn't, so I knew that I would give in and say yes. Even if it did mean that I would get verbally assaulted into next Friday.
"People are so excited about Katniss' win, they won't be paying you any attention anyways." He pointed out. "I'll get to have you all to myself."
A shiver ran up my back at his words, and I tried to make sure that it didn't show. Oh, yeah, did I forget to mention that this party was in celebration of Katniss and Peeta's DUAL victory? The first one in the history of Hunger Games? The whole district is utterly elated, cue the party tonight that the entire seam was planning on attending. Heck, some other town people may even attend for the special occassion.
"Will you promise to shave?" I barter. His prickly hairs were getting on my nerves when he kissed me. They hurt and itch at the same time, and it was utterly annoying.
"Promise." He counters quickly.
I look at him for a few minutes, acting as though I am pondering my answer.
"I guess..." I trail off, and before I can get another word out, Gale picks me up, slinging me in circles in joy.
"I'll pick you up tonight at 8." He says, elated that I've agreed. He almost rushes off in a whirlwind, but I have no clue what to wear, so I stop him.
"Do you have boots?" I look at him quizzically, wondering why on Earth he'd be asking me if I had some boots.
"Yeah?"
"Wear those. And it's gonna be hot tonight, but you don't want to wear a dress, so wear some shorts that you don't care about too aweful much. If your dad has a flask, fill it with some kind of alcohol for yourself just in case you decide to drink, and stuff it in your boot."
"Okay." I concede. Honestly, I don't think I have shorts... I may have to make some. "What about shirt?"
He pauses, looking down at my covered chest so quickly that I almost miss it. Finally, he says, after much consideration, "Something flattering." Thank you, Captain Obvious, for your oh so helpful advice.
I roll my eyes as he disappears through my back door and makes his way down the street. As soon as he is out of sight, I make my way to my room to find the perfect outfit.
Since our talk at the waterfall, I'd given up my quest to hurriedly lose my virginity. Gale made me see that it was something special, and once it was gone, I wouldn't be able to get it back. And though I don't plan on leaving Gale anytime soon, our future isn't set in stone.
I am about to rip my freaking hair out. I am the mayor's daughter, and I don't have a damn pair of shorts? Really?
Eventually, I settle on just making some. I get an old ripped up pair of jeans that are too short, a measuring tape, and some scissors, and go to work. In no time, I have a fully functional pair of cut off shorts that, if I do say so myself, make my butt look amazing. I smirk, imagining how fun making Gale squirm will be later on tonight.
I pair the shorts with a pair of boots that reach mid-calf, leaving enough room to settle the flask down in. Good Lord knows I won't be able to get through this night without a little bit of liquor. So that my dad doesn't notice that I am stealing from his stash once again, I take a little bit from each bottle, mixing them all in the flask.
Once that's done, I stuff the flask down into my boot, and head off to find the best 'flattering' shirt that I have. I'm nervous because I don't want to show more than every other girl there, but I also don't want to show less. I really should have gotten a little more help with this. Finally, I decide to just go with my gut: something cute, comfy, and will totally keep Gale's full attention on me. So, I pick out a creamy crop top and bandeu combination that leaves most of my midriff bare, showing off my flat tummy. I curl my long hair into thick curls, leaving them to frame my waist, and put on a thin layer of foundation, doing my eyes as I normally do.
After that, I find the belt that matches my boots and put a belly button ring in that is adorned in feathers. I don't wear my belly ring often, usually only putting a small stud in that's barely noticeable. It's something young capitol people do to try to make themselves look sexier. Don't even ask why I have one, because if it were up to me, they are too much of a hassle. But my stylist insists that I have one, and my father always told me to just do as she says. With the shirt I am wearing, it's impossible for the navel ring not to be seen, so I may as well wear a cute one.
"Is it too much?" I ask, all of a sudden feeling as though I've over done it. Gale's been looking at me for a solid twenty seconds, and hasn't said a word, which in all honestly, would freak any girl out.
"Not at all." He says gruffly. "You should throw every dress you own in the trash, because I don't think they could make you look any better."
I blush furiously, but I'm thankful for his comment. My self-esteem rises considerably at his appreciation of my exposed body, and I don't feel nearly as self concious as I did before.
"Are we going to go, or are you just going to stand there staring at me all night?" I smirk cockily. Gale looks at my face instantly, almost as if I've slapped him back into reality. I'm definitely going to have some fun tonight. My smirk broadens at my thoughts.
"You got something to drink?" He asks, his voice returning to a somewhat normal state.
"Yeah." I motion to my boot, and he nods.
"Let's go then." He smiles broadly, ready to get the night started. I grin, and take his outstretched hand.
When we arrive, half the seam is already there, most of them dancing, some playing card games and others playing drinking games, or just drinking. A lot of guys are already shirtless, and even more are taking shots of liquor or chugging the beer that they made at home. Most everybody is at least tipsy, and I feel the excitement bubble in my stomach. Gale pulls me along behing him through the throngs of people, looking for his friends I assume. A lot of people wave and say hi, but none of them look surprised or upset to see me here, which is relieving.
In no time, we find all of Gale's friends playing a game called flip cup. Gale jumps into the game immediately, without a doubt trying to show off. I opt to stand and watch to catch the gist of the game for a couple of rounds. On each side of the table is a team, all the people on each team have a cup half full of beer, or a shot of liquor. Two people on the end of the table start the game off with an up-down-up movement, sloshing their beer whenever the two cups meet in the middle. After that, they chug all of the beer, set it down on the edge of the table, and then flip it. After the first person flips their cup to land with the open part down, the next person in line chugs, and flips until all of the cups are flipped over. Whichever team is the first to flip all of their cups over wins, and they get to kick off a person on the other team. I watch a couple more practice rounds, practicing my own flip cupping, before jumping in.
In no time, I'm feeling good, but since I'm the newest person, I haven't been kicked off. I noticed early on that the good people tended to get kicked off first. Gale was the second person to get kicked off, and now he stands beside me, giving me advice. The more I played, the easier the game became, and honestly I thought it might be because the beer was making me relax. It makes me feel light, and carefree, and my movements have loosened up considerably.
Eventually it's down to just me, Thom and Bristol on the other team. We've gathered a crowd now, with our loud, competitive yells, mine included.
I feel Gale's heat behind me, and I take a moment to lean into him while our beers are being refilled. I have five cups on my end that will have to be drunk by just me, Thom and Bristol get to split their five cups among themselves.
"Take your time." Gale whispers. "Breathe. Don't get caught up in what they're doing, just focus on what you're doing, 'kay?"
I nod my head obediantly, take a few breaths and get myself ready. I'm just now starting to really feel the alcohol in my system, my vision losing its depth perception, the room slightly spinning. I giggle at the feeling.
"Ready?" I ask Thom. The good thing is that my voice isn't slurred.
"When you are." He smirks.
Immediately, we're doing the down-up-down motion with our cups, and I take Gale's advice, breathing, taking my time. Thom, on the other hand is in a frenzy, and doesn't get his first cup flipped until after four tries. So far, I'm already chugging my third cup when he gets to the second. I haven't missed a flip so far, solely taking Gale's advice. Bristol has started screaming at Thom, and it helps him none. As soon as it gets to Bristol's turn, she's on me like a hound dog on a trail.
I keep calm and steady until my last cup is flipped. Bristol still has one cup that is untouched. I'm the winner.
"Boo-yah!" I belt loudly, making a big deal out of beating both of them. I probably wouldn't have done that if I'd been sober, but I'm having a good time.
"Yeah, yeah. Whatever." Bristol brushes me off, grumbling. "I need a shot."
I reach down into my boot, pulling out the flask. "Shots on me!" I yell.
"Hell yeah!" Derik yells from beside Gale. "Body Shots!"
Gale's face stiffens, but I don't really understand what a body shot is. Is it getting hit? That doesn't sound very fun...
"What's a body shot?" I ask a little bit more loudly than I anticipated.
"It's kinda hard to explain." Gale says slowly.
A girl from Gale's group of friends quickly butts into the conversation.
"You can show her on me, Gale." She smirks. Gale is about to decline, I can see it in his face, but I want to know.
"Go ahead," I say before he can say no. I push him over to the girl, giggling slightly.
"You sure about that, Madge?" Thom asks.
"Yeah." I don't get what the big deal is? Until the girls shirt comes off. That's when I start thinking that maybe it wasn't such a great idea to throw my boyfriend at her.
The girl lays down on the dried table where we'd previously been playing flip cup, a full shot glass laid between her breasts. Fortunately, my smile doesn't waver, due to always smiling for camera's, as Derik pours a little bit more liquor into the girls belly button, then drizzles it up her torso to her chest where the shot glass sits.
I know what's coming before it actually happens. Gale's lips close around the girls belly button, sucking the liquor from her navel. Once it hits the back of his throat, he coughs a bit, clearly not expecting the taste of the strong liquid. But, continues doing his shot, licking up the girls torso, and taking the shot glass in his mouth, chugging its contents as quickly as he can.
I feel an all new kind of jealousy rage in my stomach.
"My turn." I claim, loudly. I point at Gale, "Shirt off."
His eyes widen. "What?"
"You heard me." He complies, and removes his shirt.. I swear I see the girls behind him start to drool upon seeing his back muscles. I smirk. Those are mine.
"Lay down." I command. He does as I ask, staying completely still for me. I place a chair at the end of the table since I am not as tall as he is, therefore won't be able to do this as easily. Derik pours the liquor in the same pattern as he did for the girl.
"Where do you want the shot, Madge." Derik asks from beside me.
"His mouth." I don't know where these balls came from, but I'm like this confident side of myself a little bit too much. Gale does as I say, and allows Derik to put the bottom of the shot glass into his mouth. Out of the corner of my eye, I think I see Derik wink at Gale, and Gale replies by groaning lowly.
"All set, Madge."
I start where Gale had on the girl, standing up on the chair, both hands on either side of his hips, then slowly suck the liquor from his belly button. I feel his abdominals tense under my lip and I smirk. After I've drunk all the liquor from his belly button, I slowly make my way up his torso, my tongue never leaving his hot skin. I get to a point where I can look up at his face, and do so, winking with my tongue still on his chest. A bit of liquor has pulled at his clavicle, so I focus on that, slowly moving my legs up each side of his hips so that I am now straddling him. I can feel him through his shorts, which broadens my smirk. I nip harshly at his collar bone, and I briefly hear him gasp. Then, I make my way up his neck, and to his mouth where the shot sits waiting for me. I grap the shot glass with my mouth, quickly rising off of Gale enough to down the shot before spitting the glass out and returning my attention to his lips. I give him a short, sensual kiss, but not without grinding my hips into his just enough for him to be able to tell. He gasps into my mouth, and with that, I hop off of Gale, and stand straight up on the ground.
Thom gives a wolf whistle from beside me, slapping my hand in a high-five.
"Nice, Madge. Me next, right?" Derik asks.
"No." Gale growls from beside me. He has already found his shirt and put it back on, much to my dislike.
"Let's dance, Madge."
It takes me a while to get into the swing of things, but once I do, it's like I've been coming to these parties all my life. I see Hazelle at a stand serving beverages, and every once in a while, she'll catch Gale's eye.
"She saw you." He whispers in my ear during a particularly slow song.
"Is she mad?" I don't want Hazelle to be mad at me... She might not want me seeing Gale then.
"No." Gale says confidently. "She saw me too. She isn't happy about it, by any means. But she won't say anything about it."
After a while, Thom and Bristol join us out on the made-up, dirt dance floor, and we all dance together, just having fun, and looking like a bunch of retards. Really, I don't even think we're dancing anymore.
Gale surprises me when he gets up on the stage to sing a song. I never knew that Gale had a singing voice, but God, he does. The guitar and violin behind him harmonize with his voice perfectly, and my fingers itch to play the tune on my piano. His voice is strong, and smooth, belting out the words flawlessly. He sings about writing a song about a girl. A beautiful girl. How he wants nothing more than to be around this girl, how he would give anything to spend all night with her, love her, and her love him back. He sings about an all night long slow kiss. How he is so wrapped up in this girl, and can't think of anything else but how happy she makes him, how he just wants to spend all of his time with her.
And the entire time, he's looking at me.
After the song, the party gets broken up by the Peacekeepers. Honestly, I'm kind of surprised that it didn't happen a long time ago, but I guess they were feeling somewhat generous.
Gale hurries me home, staying in the shadows as much as possible, shushing me whenever my giggles get to be too loud. We sneak as quietly as we can into the house, thankful that it's dead quiet and nobody is awake. I lead Gale to my room, and he follows obligingly.
As soon as we're in the room, I remove my boots and socks chunk them into the corner.
Gale smirks at me. "I told you that you would have fun."
"I know," I smile sweetly, "I just wanted you to shave."
I make my way to the only dresser in my room, removing a pair of shorts and a t-shirt that I can sleep in before slipping into the bathroom to change.
Gale is thankfully still there when I return. I don't know why he would have left without telling me goodbye anyways, but I was still afraid that he might do just that.
He tucks me into bed before making his way to the door.
"Gale?" I call out after him.
He turns around instantly, as if just waiting for me to call him back to me.
"Yeah?"
"Will you stay with me tonight?" I ask innocently. I see him smile back, but he continues on his way to the door. I deflate slighlty until he reaches for the lock, and makes sure that the door is securely closed and nobody can walk in. Then he returns to the bed, shucking off his shirt on the way and throwing it at the foot of the bed.
"I wouldn't have it any other way." He smiles grandly.
I fall asleep for the first time in a guys arms that night, and can't help but wonder how I'd ever slept without Gale Hawthorne's arms around me every night.
