(A/N)

I'm bad. Don't even because I know... I suck. I'm sorry. This chapter has no point. I don't know. I'm gonna sit and think about where this is going but I will finish it. Promise.

"Hey Kate," I said, hearing my door open.

Kate Denali had been my best friend since I'd moved and she was basically part of the family. She was that friend that could open the front door and stroll right in like they lived there too and it wouldn't matter.

"Hey," she greeted, putting her bag on the floor and plopping down on my bed. "What are you doing?"

She got a better look at what was on my bed. "Oh God. You did not spend $90 on that."

I shrugged. I was flipping through the yearbook, which I wasn't actually in that much. It was stupid I guess, especially because the small town of Forks allowed everyone to know everyone.

"Sue me," I said, staring at a picture.

"Why?" she asked. "It's not like your such great friends with the seniors."

I shrugged and she leaned in to see what I was looking at.

"Oh God, Rose," she said. I sighed. Royce was front and center in the picture of the basketball team and I'd been staring at the picture for five minutes. She reached over and slammed the yearbook shut. I winced.

"I wasn't... I wasn't..." I stuttered trying to defend myself. I wasn't looking at him. It was a coincidence.

"Yeah, my ass," Kate said pulling me into a hug. I hugged her back and she pulled the yearbook out of my lap and threw it on the floor. "You shouldn't have bought this."

"I'm over it," I said. "I really am"

"Yeah, but it's coming up isn't it?" Kate asked.

Yes it was and it shouldn't matter. But it did. He was my first boyfriend and he'd treated me like I was something rare, something to treasure. I remembered laughing with him on the couch and walking through the park and though I didn't love him at all anymore, it still hurt.

"Yeah," I whispered, "like tomorrow."

Without hesitation, Kate said, "Garrett, Emmett, you, and I are going on a double date tomorrow, got it?"

I grimaced. "You don't have to."

Kate smile ruefully, "Hey what are friends for?"

"You're the best," I said, pushing her with my shoulder. She pushed me back.

"I know."

"Hi," I said, opening the door. I leaned up quickly and gave him a kiss.

Emmet gazed down at me and I felt a pang in my chest. How was I going to tell this beautiful boy that I loved him?

"Kate and Garett are in the car," Emmett said, taking my hand. I raised an eyebrow when I caught sight of Garrett in the front seat of Emmett's car and Kate in the passenger seat next to him. Were we doing this again?

I raised an eyebrow at him. I wanted it to be like any other day and that obviously wasn't going to happen. He grinned down at me with a look in his eyes that was obviously asking me not to be difficult.

Damn those dimples.

I smiled back in resignation.

He opened the door for me and I rolled my eyes.

Unnecessary.

"Hey Rose," Garret said, looking at me through the back mirror. He that look in his eyes, the one where you were trying to tiptoe around your angry mother.

"Hi Garrett," I greeted, somehow managing not to roll my eyes at him.

"We're going to a movie and your not complaining," Kate said.

I laughed. "Well, hello to you too," I said. "What movie?"

Everyone shrugged.

Apparently, we were going to watch a sappy rom-com. It was slightly torturous. The thing was, none of us liked rom-coms. I was pretty sure that we all would have rather watched the action movie with the exploding cars and guns.

I hardly paid any attention to the movie. I paid more attention to Emmett, who was "watching" the movie so intently that he wasn't even holding my hand, as he had done at every other movie we'd seen ever.

The strangeness continued when it came time for lunch.

"Alright," I said, stopping in my tracks. I crossed my arms. We were walking towards La Bella Italiana, a stupidly expensive Italian place. "What are you guys doing?"

"Going to lunch?" Kate asked. She had a falsely innocent look on her face. I raised an eyebrow at her.

"No, I mean why did we see a romantic comedy when none of us like romantic comedies and why did Garrett drive and why are we going to a restaurant where we're gonna spend more than double what we'd pay at a diner?" I said. "You guys didn't do this last year and I was fine."

Emmett sighed. "Kate told us about the yearbook," he mumbled. I took a deep breath and glared at Kate. She had the decency to look a little bit sheepish.

"I'm fine," I insisted, looking around at everyone. "Now can we please stop acting weird and go get burgers or something?"

Everyone cracked a smile.

"How about pizza?" Garrett asked, pointing to the pizza place at the end of the block.

"Lead the way," I said. Emmett flung his arm around my shoulder and kissed the side of my head.

That was much better.

"Emmett?" I asked, taking off my seatbelt. He'd just pulled up to my house after dropping Garrett and Kate off.

Lunch had gone so much more smoothly than the movie had, it wasn't even funny. As if making up for lost time, Emmett hadn't let go of my hand throughout, not that I minded in the least.

"Yeah?"

I leaned across the center console and hugged him tightly. His arms wrapped around me.

Tell him. Tell him. Tell him.

I'm glad it was you who found me that night," I whispered into his ear.

Stupid.

"So am I," he whispered back. I wanted to hear some disappointment in his voice, something might have motivated me to tell him. There was nothing.

"Call me tomorrow?" I asked.

"Don't I always?" Emmett asked. He pulled back and shot me his wide grin, dimples and all.

Man, did I love him. Wouldn't it have been so nice if I had the guts to tell him?
