Chapter 10

Two weeks had past since Maki's visit to the Tokyo general prison to visit her brother, and each day she fumed with rage with what he had said to her, straight away she had gotten onto the phone with Naru about what Hibiki had spoke of, and ever since then Naru, Lin, Monk and John had been watching over the girl where ever she had gone. Sometimes SPR took a short case close to home that was easy to solve in a matter of days so it wasn't too strainius on Mai's current condition.

Being 5 ½'s month pregnant really did start to take it's toll on her, the food cravings was getting worse, her sleeping habits had changed, she was awake most of the night and tried not to sleep through the day. Her monthly doctor's appointments had changed from every 4-6 weeks to every 3 weeks.

Ayako was hounding her constantly about her health and conditions to the point where both women now wasn't talking to each other, they had both said some rather nasty things to each other, especially about Mai being adopted. Monk had tried to settle the family feud but currently at the moment Mai was trying to get un adopted by the both. Maki had heard the girl most of the weeks crying, Ayako wasn't any better, she had turned to having a drink every night regretting the fight but both women was too stubborn to apologise to each other.

Currently, Maki was at the SPR office, rubbing her temples, lack of sleep from her room mate was getting to the girl, and then on top she had to try and keep the secret of Hibiki having his men watching Mai constantly. It was getting to the poor girl to the point where she is at the point of snapping herself. Lin walked into the office seeing Maki sat at Mai's desk with files on rubbing her temples, "Bad night?" Maki groaned as she slammed her head against the desk, "you have no idea Bro, I'm out of idea's on what to do." Lin walked over placing a coffee on the girls table.

"Mai still being an emotional wreck over this fight?" Maki nodded and pulled out some letters from her bag, "Not only that but I've been receiving these constantly, I've gone to scott down at the station and he's having most of his men on the look out trying to find the people that's sending me these letters. I don't think I can keep this secret any longer with the way Mai and her mother are arguing…" Lin took the letters and his face paled at some of the descriptions on how they was going to dissect Mai and her child.

Maki sipped back some of the black roast and sighed, "I seriously need a break from all this, Mai's up most of the night in tears, then I'm getting phone calls from Monk saying about Ayako's going into a drinking depression." Lin handed her back the letters and held a thinking face, "we need to get them into the same room so they both can see on what this fight is doing to each other, what exactly did Ayako say to Mai?"

Maki gulped at that and looked over to the wall in the distance. "She said that Mai is a very ungrateful spoilt brat that if it wasn't thanks to her, she would be an orphan most likely living on the street eating out of a trash can, or the other was if it wasn't thanks to her, then she would be living 6 ft under in a wooden box."

Lin was about to speak but a male voice spoke over, "And Mai shot back that she was a mid age bitch that needs an attitude adjustment, that if she was never in the team to begin with she'd be sleeping around with rich men being a slag or whore for money, the argument went downhill from there, once Ayako had hung up the phone she was crying and began drinking the heavy stuff that we use for special occasions."

Lin sat back his head was aching from just hearing what happened with the fight, "where are both women at this current moment?" "Mai's with Naru on a lunch date, he's trying to cheer her up or get her to at least talk to Ayako," Maki answered finishing off her coffee, as Monk was pouring his own, "Ayako's at the hospital saying not to be disturbed unless it's an emergency, but what's this I hear about threatening letters?"

Maki handed him the letters about what was being sent to her, and Monks face fell from depression straight to anger, he went to tear them up but Maki stopped him "NO! Scott needs them for evidence! I haven't given him these new ones yet!"

"New ones! How many have there been?" this made the girl look away, "about 3 a day, they always come when we are here, or I'm at home, but when I open the door to see who it is, the persons already gone. The CCTV has never caught the person or people either due to the security camera's being fucked up"

Lin rubbed his chin thinking, "What if there is someone on the campus that is connected to Hibiki? Has Mai said anything about Hibiki's friends looking familiar on the university grounds?" Maki shook her head sighing, "that's what worries me the most if the person is that close, what if they can just sneak in when we are asleep and attack Mai? We would never know it coming."

Monk stood up "Then Maki go home and pack your bags, both you girls are staying with me and Ayako, and no I don't care if they are fighting, I say this is more than an emergency for Ayako to push her differences aside."

The poor chinese man, rubbed his temples, "I'm already getting a headache thinking about the damage those two women will do, Alright Naru wont like this but we are shutting the office early today, Monk you go explain to Ayako why and Maki I'll drive you to pick up the stuff and help pack Mai's things. I'll give Naru a call letting him know what's going on."

Both of them nodded gathering their things.

"I better stock up on Ramen then…." Monk said before they walked out of the door. Letting the other two laugh at him.

Down at a little Italian restaurant, Mai and Naru was having a little lunch date to make up for lost times, it had become a weekly routine for them, Mai was sat playing with her napkin, while Naru watched carefully, "Are you ok love?" Mai looked up and gave a sad smile, "me? Yeah I'm good great actually!" she hadn't meant to sound so peppy but with her depression lately, she couldn't help but input the fake emotions.

Naru reached over the table taking her hand, "You and Ayako still…" sighing and giving a nod, she squeezed Naru's hand slightly, "Yeah, I've spoken to the local orphanage, but they said that since I'm now so far along in my pregnancy and have a stable home even if there is fighting between me and Ayako that they can't take me back in. An I can't go back living my old life, I'm stuck being that….woman's daughter. Who doesn't care." Naru had moved his chair to the side of her and wrapped his arms around her in a loving hug, "I'm sure she is feeling just as bad as what you are about this whole fight. I'm so sorry she had to say those things to you, it was wrong on her part. You had every right to be angry…" "I know Naru but it hurts…. It broke my heart when she said those words, i…. I didn't think she would turn out that way with me."

He just held her, feeling her shake slightly, When the two women had the fight, Naru was the first person she had called, he had gone over to her room on campus ignoring all the students, Dragged her out of class and held her for so long, until she had cried every last tear out of her body. Miss. Rose had excused her from class for the rest of the day, and Naru had been trying to cheer the girl up ever since or even try to get the girls to speak to each other.

But both women was too stubborn, Naru had said that Mai might be going slightly over board by trying to get un adopted by the Takigawa's because of Ayako, he had tried telling her that Ayako loved the girl to bits but Mai wouldn't have it, and from what he's heard from Maki, Mai was sinking into a depression that he had helped her out of before the girl had even gotten pregnant, and this depression wasn't good for a pregnant woman either. He had been doing a lot of study and reading on pregnant women, and depression was definatly not one of the good things.

It could cause the woman to have a miscarriage, or cause problems later through the birth, either way he was desperate to try and get both women to talk to each other, which was when his phone began ringing, he looked down at the caller ID, and Mai just smiled to him , "Answer it, it maybe important."

"Alright love I'll be a moment, when our starters come, eat as much and order as much more as you want ok?" Mai gave off a loving smile and nodded, Naru walked away from the table to outside.

"Yes Lin what is it? THEY'VE BEEN RECIVING WHAT!, ok ok, I'll keep a lid on it, but I should have been informed about this before now, wait…. YOUR DOING WHAT! God Damn Lin I'm trying to help Mai from sinking into her depression again and your forcing both women into an animal's cage to battle it out!"

Naru leaned against the wall pinching the bride of his nose, "alright alright, I understand, once me and Mai have finished I'll bring her straight to the Takigawa's place." He hung up the phone, and tried to calm down the murderous look he had on his face. His girlfriend was in deep trouble, and if she ever saw them letters, then that could be the breaking point for Mai.

It took him a good few minutes of deep breathing before he was able to compose himself to walk back into the restaurant, but since he was so good with poker faces, Mai couldn't tell what was going on, "Mai I have some bad news…" Mai looked to him, her heart dropped. "Maki just ran me telling me that the whole floor on your apartment building has been flooded, and they don't know the extent of the damage, so …" "Oh my god! No! what am I going to do?" she instantly went into a panic.

"Don't worry living arrangements have already been sorted out, and thankfully all the baby stuff is at my apartment but we agreed not to let you move in until the baby is born, and my apartment is still under renovations so…." Her face paled knowing the next words out of his mouth, "No… I'm not going to HER! Place screw that! I'd rather live on the streets!"

Naru pinched his nose one more time, "Mai is the only place for you to go to! Please for me" her facial expressions softened, she was normally quite good at reading him and this time, she saw concern and worry in his face. She gave a sigh, "Alright I will….but there is no way I'm being in the same room as her."

Letting out a sigh of relief, Naru sat back as their food came, Mai had a sip of her orange juice, he noticed the distant and sad look in her eye's in fact, it looked like Mai wouldn't look at him the whole time.

Over at the Tokyo hospital

Ayako was in her office pacing the floor, rubbing her temples, "You want me to have that girl in our house after all that's happened this past week monk? Are you a freaking idiot! She hates my guts after what I said to her!" Monk sighed as he took a sip of his coffee, "You don't know the reasons on why we need her at our place, you said you'd see her if it was an emergency and this is an emergency!"

Ayako stopped and turned towards him, her eye's hardened "What's going on Monk? Why is this such a big deal to you? She has over 4 million in her savings account and yet you want her to mooch off us?"

He stood up slamming his hand on the table, "She will not be Mooching off us, AYAKO! This is a serious deal, one! She is OUR! Daughter now so even if she did inherit over 4 million from her deceased parents she is still our child, and two Hibiki is still a threat!"

That made Ayako's face pale, her eye's widened looking towards him, "Hibiki? The bastard that hurt her in the first place? How is he a threat he's still behind bars!" Shaking his head he took out a letter from his back pocket and showed it to the red haired Miko.

Slowly she walked backwards sitting down into her office chair, "How long has this been going on for? When did Mai tell you about this?" letting out a rather long sigh, "She doesn't know about these, Maki showed them to us about the same time you and Mai haven't been speaking to each other, an they are gradually getting worse, Maki say's they are receiving at least 3 a day meaning the person knows where Mai lives. This! Is the reason why I want my baby girl at home with us! So I can protect her even if your being a stubborn old hag not wanting to apologise to her."

A cross appeared on the womans forehead but she left the beating for now "This information should have been given to me when it first started happening, now I'm at a complete loss on how to approach Mai and how to fix our argument, your right she is our daughter, and I do not start acting like a proper parent then social services are going to take her away from us and most likely place her into another foster home. I wont be able to handle that especially with her being so far along in her pregnancy now, maybe… maybe I can make a nice dinner tonight"

Monk grimced a little, last time Ayako actually cooked she almost burnt the whole kitchen down, so normally it's either monk cooking or they order out, "How about we order Ramen for tonight? You know how much she's addicted to the stuff at the moment, plus, you're the one who issued her and diagnosed her with depression and all her injuries when hibiki first started attacking her,"

Ayoko nodded and sat back running a hand through her red hair, "That is true, she was due for an appointment with me last week for an update with her medication but I haven't seen her since, so I bet she's ran out of her medication and now… oh my god what have I done!"

Again she got up from her chair and began pacing the floor, "What…what If I've put both her and the baby in danger!" Monk rolled his eye's walking over pulling his wife into a loving hug, "Then you will know what to do when she gets home tonight, that's right our girl is coming home for a while."

Ayako gave out a small nod and gripped onto his top. "She's coming home…"
