-Chapter 10- -Chaos Unraveled-

To those of you who have read this story before, I'm sorry for the painstaking wait and what a long leave I took. I regret not writing earlier, but after having my laptop destroyed and moving into a more career phase, I was gone almost a year, so I'm sorry, but thank you for reading this far.

The five minutes that counted still ticked away, with each second passing, shivers ran up and down Abigail's spine. She wanted to retch, her vision blurred, but she knew what had to be done. All she couldn't understand is what these women had in common with her. Was it only the name? Who was the masked man that was taking their lives, and why? She felt a hand on her back and looked up to see Cat.

"It'll be okay, it's just like every other mission besides the mystery twist, right? Plus, immortals can't die." for once Cat seemed to be more serious and understanding.

"I'm technically not immortal, Cat..." Abigail grimaced, looking down at her clouded silverware.

"But you are! You've died and surely after this you'll become an actual reaper; if you fail here…. You will be gone, Abby."

Abigail shook her head, her curls covering her scarlet face as she looked down, "maybe it'll end here, Cat."

"IT WON'T END HERE."

"Ronald?!" Abby jumped as he gripped her shoulder firm.

"I've already decided that you'll be my responsibility and you still owe me a junk load of chores for that broken leg," Ronald grinned.

Abby nodded slightly, dropping her gaze again, whisperingsilent thanks and raised her knife.

"We're not gonna let it end here, and I will kick that blonde guy's ass!"

"Um, but were not supposed to mess with the living, no matter what, Abby." Ronald trailed, bringing his arms up into a flamboyant position.

She turned to look him straight in the eyes, pointing an ivory finger in his face, "Well this asshole is messing with me, and I'm not gonna let him have his way. You got that, playboy?"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ upon the balcony~~~~~~
"It's time to move on, as it seems, and the dead should be put to rest." His blonde hair fluttered through the silhouette of a curtain.
"This charade she's living is over."
The blonde man moved toward the balcony overlooking the ball, spied the crowd, his eyes trailing Abigail intently, "Abigail Rose, it will end tonight." He turned to face Sebastian Michealis.
"Surely you will not get in my way?" The masked man smirked.
Sebastian returned the grin, bringing his index finger to support his face, "Surely you are aware that I detest reapers? Why, I am merely an observer in this game."
"And your master?"
"I shall obey his orders, but I'm sure it will stop once that reaper is gone, so why shall I waste my time stooping to that of a mortal? This is much more amusing, I assure you."
The masked man's face returned to look at Abigail, then turned to leave, "We'll see, demon."
"Cat! Juliet Abigails death is approaching! Do you think you can find her?" Abby whispered.
"Hon, we're not allowed to mess with the deaths, were only here to collect."
"BUT CA-"
"We can't do anything about it," She cut off, "You'll find her once she's gone, we're reapers, not life savers!"
"BUT RONALD SAVED ME!"
"WELL WERE NOT SUPPOSED TO, ABBY. YOU WERE AN ERROR-" Cat stopped.
Abby looked down. " So… would it have been better… if I wasn't here?"
Before Cat could reply, Abigail received the mental chime, and sulked off to look for the body.
Ronald jogged over, scanning the crowd. "Hey did Abby leave already? We need to go help her find the body."
"You shouldn't have brought her.." Cat whispered.
"What?"
"YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE BROUGHT HER BACK! WE'RE IN THIS SITUATION BECAUSE OF YOUR STUPIDITY AND NOW WE HAVE TO DEAL WITH THAT STUPID MORTAL!" Cat screamed. Some guests moved away awkwardly.
"What are you talking about?! It's not my fault! Why are you so mad anyway? WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?"
"Ronald, Abigail is going to fail, and then she's going to die; you're attachment to her is just going drag you down, so I suggest you severe it."
"She won't fail-"
"SHE WILL RONALD! GET A GRIP, REALITY CHECK, WHATEVER, BUT YOU'LL HAVE TO ACCEPT IT!"
"Cat, she'll fail if you don't believe in her, so don't let her believe that, seriously." Ronald tensed, leaning towards Cat.
She fell backwards, and slumped into a chair, "Ronald, what if she does die?"
"She won't."
"BUT! What if she does? What will you do?"
Ronald grimaced and shrugged, finding a chair himself. "There are a lot of other cool chicks to hang out with, right." He smiled nonchalantly.
Cat could here is voice break, and knew that they may handle the situation the same way, and for the first time, the actuality of losing Abigail made her tremble. "We could have avoided this, you know."
"And where's the fun in that?" He smiled lightly. "C'mon, we need to help that idiot."
"And she'd kick you where it counts for that." She giggled.
"Or kiss me." He grinned. They both passed through the crowd, with new courage on their faces, but how will they find Abigail?
"tick, tock, tick, tock. The final chime will ring." The blonde man smirked.
Okay, sorry, here's an update from your's truly. Kisses, hugs, and lye.
