Chapter 10 – Sick
Loren had been doing treatment for a few weeks now, because she was in the hospital they had been doing more intensive treatments than if she was doing home treatments. She looked at herself in the mirror. She was pale and weak. Her hair was matted. As she tried to get the tangle out she pulled her hand away and hair came with it. She began to tear up as the reality of her situation set in. She looked in the mirror again but this time she wasn't alone. She whirled around and cried as she felt the familiar warm strong arms wrap around her. She looked up at Eddie and pulled him into a kiss unable to resist. Her body became weak in relief. He wrapped his arms tighter around her to keep her stable. He finally broke away from the kiss.
"You know you never had to face this alone… I was always by your side. I still am."
Loren bit her lip before she spoke. "I know… I just didn't want to cause you any more pain."
Eddie brushed her hair away from her face, "Lo… It's my choice what I want to do with my life and no one can make those decisions for me. Now my choice is to stay with you it always has been because I love you, you idiot."
Loren laughed, "I love you so much Eddie and I'm sorry. I was wrong I can't do this alone I'm not strong enough. Please don't give up on me."
Eddie leaned forward and kissed her forehead. She wrapped her arms around him and hugged him tightly not wanting to let go.
…
Loren sighed as she sat down on the couch, "It's great to be home."
Eddie lifted her up and sat back down with her on his lap, "It's great to have you home. It hasn't been home since you left."
Loren smiled; she turned her head kissing him softly.
Eddie sighed, "So Ian has been staying here off and on since you left whenever he shows up and is not at bars. But anyways it shouldn't matter because I moved you into my room anyway because I want to be near you at night."
Loren smiled; Eddie was blown away at how beautiful she was. He thought back to the day at the hospital before they left with Max and Katy.
Loren stood in front of the mirror looking at the razor and scissors sitting on the counter. Eddie was standing by her along with Max and Katy. Loren took a deep breath and turned to look at them.
"I can't do this on my own. Eddie?"
Eddie let out a shaky breath he picked up the scissors and was about to cut off Loren's ponytail but the scissors fell through his fingers hitting the tile floor. He began backing away as tears filled his eyes.
"I can't… I just can't…"
Eddie rushed out of the room he ran down the hospital hallway and burst into the courtyard. Max appeared shortly after him. Eddie plopped down on his but covering his face in his arms that were resting on his knees. Max came over and kneeled down pulling his son into an embrace. Eddie began to sob.
"Dad I just… I couldn't do it… It's too hard."
"Shh son it's ok… Loren understands she does. Everything is going to be okay. You have been so strong for her you have a right to break down now and then."
Eddie pulled away from his dad and wiped his face he stood up getting ready to go back inside when Loren came out. She wore a curly brown haired wig with a beanie. She looked the same as she did before. She didn't even look like she had cancer. She held out her arms and Eddie walked over hugging her. She kissed his cheek and buried her face in his neck holding him tightly.
"Eddie! Earth to Eddie!"
Eddie was shaken out of his thoughts. He found Loren snapping her fingers in front of his face.
She looked confused, "Are you alright?"
Eddie smiled, "Yeah I was just thinking about how beautiful you are."
Loren blushed and smiled, "Well I think I like the sound of that."
Eddie laughed and leaned forward kissing her softly.
…
Jake looked up and saw Katy Duran walking in. "Katy! How have you been?"
Katy smiled as Jake gave her a kiss on the cheek. "I've been good! I came to ask you a huge favor."
Jake smiled, "Of course anything for Katy Duran."
"So you know Eddie is dating Loren Tate right?"
Jake scrunched his face up in thought, "The cancer girl?"
Katy gave him a look of disappointment, "Really Jake? The cancer girl…"
Jake sighed, "I didn't mean it like that Katy. Eddie doesn't keep me up to date on his personal life is all?"
Katy nodded, "Ok well anyways that is the one and I was hoping you could help me out with her."
"Oh? How could I help with her?"
"Well she has an amazing voice and she is amazing at writing songs and I was wondering if you could show me the ropes of being a manager."
Jake raised his eyebrows in surprise. "You want to become a manager?"
Katy smiled, "If you would show me how yes."
Jake laughed, "Of course Katy like I said before anything for you."
"Awesome! Can we start now?!"
Jake smirked at her enthusiasm, "I don't see why not."
…...
Loren opened the door to see a man about Eddie's age standing there. She looked up at him in confusion. The man smirked.
"You must be Loren. I'm Ian."
Loren smiled, "Oh you're Ian! It's nice to meet you! Come in!"
Ian walked in and Loren closed the door behind him. Ian watched her with a smile on his face. She wiped her palms on her leggings uncomfortably.
"Umm so Eddie isn't here he is meeting with Jake at the office. But he should be back soon."
"Ok sounds great."
Loren sighed, "Umm can I get you anything?"
Ian smirked again, "Nah I'm good. Thanks love."
Loren nodded, "Okay well I am going to make me some tea are you sure you don't want any?"
"Only if you put some honey in it love."
Loren smiled, "That's the only way I make it."
She walked towards the kitchen but stopped in the bathroom before to make sure her beanie was staying on her wig before she continued on to make the tea.
She brought out two cups handing one to Ian. She sat down on the couch curling her legs up underneath her.
"Thanks love, this tea is amazing. I needed it."
Loren smiled, "Of course. I always take it with my medication so I don't get sick."
Loren popped in an immune booster and ibuprofen into her month sipping her tea. Ian watched her as he did so. He knew she had cancer but that was only because Eddie told her you would never notice if she hadn't told you because she took such good care of herself.
"So love, do you like video games?"
Loren smirked, "Are you sure you want to get into this you are going to get your butt whooped by a girl."
Ian raised his eyebrows, "Challenge accepted."
…
"Thanks for helping with all of this Jake."
Jake smiled, "Of course Eddie I am always happy to help out Katy Duran. Especially when it helps young talent as well, but Eduardo why didn't you tell me about this girl?"
Eddie sighed, "I figured you wouldn't be thrilled about it."
Jake grabbed Eddie by the shoulders, "Eddie my man! As long as you are happy I am happy!"
Eddie smiled, "Thanks Jake I am going to head home I will talk to you later."
Jake pulled Eddie into a hug before he left.
…
Eddie walked up to the door and heard yelling. He unlocked it quickly and walked in. He found Loren and Ian completely absorbed in a video game yelling at each other and the screen.
"Glad to see you two are getting along."
He suddenly heard the sound of game over and Ian put his face in his hands as Loren raised her arms to the air screaming "YES!" in victory.
Ian looked up at Eddie, "Where did you find this girl?!"
Eddie laughed he went over and grabbed Loren by the waist lifting her off the ground as she smiled smugly at Ian. "Tarzana"
"Ed mate you are one lucky guy! Your girl knows how to make killer tea and she can kick my butt in video games which never happens."
Eddie slid Loren down to the floor still holding her by the waist close to him. "Yes I am."
Loren smiled and kissed him on the nose before she walked upstairs.
Eddie and Ian both watched her go. Eddie sighed and sat down next to Ian.
"How have you been man?"
Ian smirked, "Partying as always. I'm surprised you are no longer in your partying ways anymore."
Eddie smiled, "I never was much of a partier only when you were in town."
"That's quite true. Anyways I approve of your girl."
Eddie raised his eyebrows, "Oh? You approve? I didn't know I need your approval but thanks."
Ian laughed, "I'm your best mate you always need my approval."
Loren walked back downstairs and laid down on the chair resting her head on the arm rest. Eddie looked over worriedly. She looked pale. He went and knelt down in front of pressing his cheek against her forehead. She was cold and clammy.
Ian watched as Eddie ran his hand through her hair and murmured things to her. He saw Loren nod slowly. Loren raised her arms up and wrapped them around Eddie's neck as he picked her up.
He turned to Ian, "I'm taking her to bed. Feel free to stay in the guest room it's pretty much yours now anyway."
Ian smiled in response as Eddie carried Loren up the stairs towards their room.
…
Eddie laid Loren down on the bed worriedly.
"Lo I think we should go to the hospital."
Loren shook her head, "No Eddie I'm fine I just over did it. I will be fine in the morning."
Eddie sighed, "Will you at least let me call the doctor."
"Fine"
Eddie grabbed his phone and dialed Loren's doctor Amy's number.
"Amy! Hi this is Eddie Duran I had a few questions about Loren." Eddie explained what was going on. "Okay, thank you Amy. I will."
Eddie hung up the phone and kneeled back again in front of Loren. "Lo the doctor says you just need to get some rest and stay in bed tomorrow you have had a lot of chemo and it is working through your system."
Loren barely nodded as she breathed slowly with her eyes closed. Eddie turned off the lights and got in bed pulling Loren close in his arms so he could make sure she was breathing. He whispered quietly so she couldn't hear though she probably was coherent enough at that time anyways. "Please God. Please make sure she is okay…"
