A/N- Whoa it's been a while, huh? Intense writers block guys. If anyone has any suggestions after this, I'm open. I do have a few ideas, but I'm deffinantly willing to take some feedback.
Some things you guys may have forgotten..
-Santana admitted she loves Quinn (relationship started)
-Quinn adopted Mack, Mack helped Santana win Quinn back without even knowing it.
-Rowan (Quinn's ex) wants to explain why she left Quinn and possibly get her bacl
-Nicholas is Frannie's ex husband who spent 7 or 8 years in jail for domestic violence, he was an excessive drinker.
-Dennis was Frannie's lawyer, but is now Quinn's because of Mack
I think that's all of the main points, but if you want smaller details that may be mentioned later, feel free to reread previous chapters.
Anyway, on with the story...
Quinn smiled contently as she watched Santana and Mackenzie sleep soundly on the couch. It's only a few minutes before eight, but she knows that she'll eventually have to wake up Mack. She has to go to school. Although spending the weekend with Santana was fantastic, she knows that the brunette is a very busy person. She has to savor every minute. Including this minute, while Mack and San look so darn adorable that she just has to take a picture. Just as she snapped the picture, Mackenzie started to stir. When she saw Quinn, she smiled, but cuddled in closer to Santana.
"Come on, Mack," the older blonde giggled softly. Mack scrunched up her nose, closed her eyes again, and shook her head firmly. "It's Monday."
"I don't care," Mack mumbled. Quinn rolled her eyes.
"You have school today," she reminded her.
"...Don't care," came the little girls response.
"But won't your friends be so curious as to how your weekend with Santana went?" Quinn asked teasingly. If anything would get Mack to wake up, it was talking about Santana. Slowly but surely, she sat up and started to rub her eyes. "That's the spirit."
"Why did we stay up so late last night?" Mackenzie whined. Quinn shook her head playfully.
"Someone insisted that she wouldn't be sleepy in the morning," she reminded Mack.
They got dressed in silence, neither of them wanting to interrupt Santana's slumber. Once they were finished, Quinn decided to make some scrambled toast since they were running a little late. Normally, she would try to make a few pancakes. The smell, of course, woke Santana up. She slipped on some shoes and rode with her two blondes to drop Mackenzie off at school, but couldn't pull away until she promised Mackenzie that they'd spend more time together without such a huge break in between.
"Quinn," Santana smiled, "guess what?"
"Hm?" Quinn hummed, casting a quick glance at Santana before turning her attention back to the Tv.
"I may have gotten you an audition…" The latina started teasingly.
"What? Where?" Quinn nearly shouted.
"A friend of mine knows this director. He's starting up a new show, and I told him how much faith I have in you-"
"Oh my god!"
"It's in about four weeks. His names Crosby or Chris or something," Santana told her cheekily.
"This is amazing. You're amazing, San," Quinn placed a small kiss on her girlfriend's lips. Well, she meant for it to be a small kiss. Before she knew it, she was on her back and Santana was hovering over her, sliding her tongue into the blonde's mouth sneakily and without permission.
A few days later
Quinn's life has become sort of a routine. She researches different ways to prepare an audition, she helps Mackenzie with her homework, she hangs out with Sugar and Elaine, and she falls asleep on the phone with Santana - who seems to be getting busier by the minute. Quinn couldn't be prouder.
As she goes through her small apartment to feed each animal, she notices almost immediately that something is wrong. Mackenzie's bunny doesn't usually sleep at this time of the day.
"Lillian," Quinn said softly. She tapped the cage, but got no response from the overweight animal. "Lilly.." she tried again, this time a little louder. The harder she stared at it, the faster she came to realise how still the bunny was laying. Hesitantly, she opened the cage and rested her index finger on her back. Nothing. No breathing, no stirring. "Shit." She knew Mackenzie would definitely react negatively to this. First her mom, now her bunny, Quinn thought bitterly. She got up and pulled out her phone, but just as she was about to dial Sugar's number, someone knocked on her door.
"Hey, Q," Santana smiled cheekily. "What's wrong?"
"Mack's bunny died," Quinn told her with a frown. Santana clicked her tongue and raised both of her eyebrows.
"Well… that wasn't expected."
"What do I do? I've never… I mean, do I tell her? Do I just go get another?" Quinn asked quickly as she paced the floor. Santana took Quinn's hand in her own and gave her a reassuring smile.
"We tell her. We leave it up to her, if she wants another bunny, let her have one. If she wants a different pet, let her have it. She's mature enough to handle this, I'm sure she's proved that," Santana said softly. Quinn nodded and pursed her lips.
"I feel terrible. She loved her."
"She did," Santana said with a small smile, "but there is nothing you could have done."
"What do we do now?"
"We wait. We watch Netflix, we make some popcorn, and then we go pick Mack up from school. She's becoming like me, she'll actually appreciate us telling her instead of hiding it."
Quinn paused for a second when she realized how many times Santana said 'Us,' and 'We.' They were in this together.
There were tears. Mackenzie didn't throw a fit, she just sat there and nodded. It broke Quinn's heart. She didn't want another pet, she claimed that Lillian was absolutely irreplaceable.
"You okay, honey?" Santana asked the little blonde. Mackenzie sniffled a little, then nodded.
"I'm fine. She was old… it happens I guess." Her voice was firm.
"Well, I have a little surprise for you. At the beach performance this Saturday, I'm giving Lillian a little shout out," Santana smiled, "I've tweeted it already, and guess what's trending?" Mack only hummed in response. Santana unlocked her phone and handed it to her.
"Sweet Lilly," Mackenzie smiled. "There's thousands…"
"And now everyone knows how sweet Lillian was," Santana said proudly. Mackenzie got up and wrapped her arms around Santana's neck. Quinn couldn't help but think about how they made the perfect little family.
"This next one is for a special little bunny that all of you should know about…" Santana said happily into the microphone. She wiggled her fingers at Quinn and Mackenzie, who stood in the front row.
"She goes by the name of Lillian," Noah added. "Now, I didn't know her very well, but I fed her every once in a while, so I like to think that I was on her good side."
The crowd laughed, along with Santana. "This is called Riptide," she said. Noah sung first.
"I was scared of dentists and the dark
I was scared of pretty girls and starting conversations
Oh, all my friends are turning green
You're the magician's assistant in their dreams
Oh, and they come unstuck
Lady, running down to the riptide
Taken away to the dark side
I wanna be your left hand man
I love you when you're singing that song and
I got a lump in my throat because
You're gonna sing the words wrong."
When Santana stepped forward, Quinn was sure that she cheered the loudest. Mackenzie was a close second.
"Lady, running down to the riptide
Taken away to the dark side
I wanna be your left hand woman
I love you, when you're singing that song and,
I got a lump in my throat because
You're gonna sing the words wrong.
I just wanna, I just wanna know
If you're gonna, if you're gonna stay
I just gotta, I just gotta know
I can't have it, I can't have it any other way."
As she sang, she walked closer to the edge of the stage. Eventually, she was right in front of Quinn. She crouched down a little, and held out her hand, which her girlfriend gladly took.
"I swear she's destined for the screen
Closest thing to Michelle Pfeiffer that you've ever seen, oh!"
Quinn immediately blushed at the hidden meaning behind that, and was reminded of her upcoming audition. She knew Santana had faith in her. Quinn smiled as Santana walked away to stand beside Noah, and giggled to herself. She had so much faith in her, she'd even put it in a song.
The after party was going well. It's late now, close to being three hours past Mackenzie's bedtime. Santana, Quinn, Noah, and Mackenzie were building a sandcastle while being sneakily watched by fans. They didn't mind - at this point, they were used to it.
"Michelle Pfeiffer, huh?" Quinn teased playfully.
"Mhm," Santana chuckled lightly.
"That was all San." Noah said as he patted the top of the castle, only to be chastised by Mack.
"You're doing it wrong," Mackenzie whined sleepily. "You're 'sposed to pat lightly."
"And you're 'sposed to be asleep," Noah snapped playfully.
"And you're 'sposed -" She cut herself off by yawning. "I think I'll lay here," she said softly as she crawled a little, then rested her head on Noah's shoulder.
"We should go home in a few minutes," Quinn giggled. "I shouldn't have kept her out this late. I'm still getting this whole 'parenting' thing together."
"I'll go with you," Santana said.
"Me too," Noah tried. Quinn arched an eyebrow. "Had to try," he shrugged. Quinn pulled out her phone to check the time, and saw that she'd missed a call (or seven) from Dennis. She decided that it was too late to call back now, it's already elven and he called at five. It wouldn't make a difference to call him back first thing in the morning.
She fell asleep wrapped in Santana's arms that night, and for the first time in a long time, she felt content with her life. Rowan and her crazy reasons aside, Quinn knew she finally had her life on track.
The next morning, she remembered that she had to call Dennis back. When he answered, he didn't sound happy.
"What's up?" Quinn asked nervously.
"Nicholas is being released today," Dennis said through the speaker. "Quinn, Mackenzie's father will be released from prison at 3:14pm."
"Do you… do you think he'll try to -" she couldn't let herself finish that sentence. The Nicholas she knew back in Middle School and High School was in love with Frannie. Would do anything for Frannie. This one… she doesn't know this one.
"Legally, he can't," Dennis informed her, "You are her legal guardian."
"Will he try?"
She heard Dennis sigh. "I don't know, Ms. Fabray. I don't know what his intentions are, if he cares about Mackenzie, if he knows where you are. It's not something that's safe to bring up with him, in case it triggers something -"
"I understand," Quinn breathed. "He does not know that she's in New York, does he?"
"As far as I know, he doesn't. I do know that he has sources who visited him in prison to keep him up to date."
"Who?"
"I'll have a list of names, and you can let me know if they sound familiar."
"Thank you, Dennis," Quinn said wearily. After hanging up, she went back to her room. She saw that Mackenzie moved into her bed, and wondered if the little girl heard any of her conversation.
"My daddy is coming back?" She said softly. Quinn pursed her lips.
"I don't think so, Mack."
"Well why not?" Mackenzie said a little too loudly, making Santana stir.
"He lives far away," Quinn somewhat told the truth. Inwardly, she hoped that Mackenzie would never have to meet Nicholas.
