"AHHH!"
Trevor could only stare in shock as he watched the boy leap out the window, he had seen a number of people behave in bizarre yet unpredictable manners. But this, there was no word that could describe how he felt. The girl still had her head out of the window and was staring at what everyone knew was the boys dead body.
"OH MY GOD!"
"Did he just do that?"
Much like him the other students watched the girl speechlessly. Slowly she pulled her head out of the window and turned back to the janitor. She was trembling from head to toe and had eyes facing the floor. Taking a deep breath girls tried to speak.
"Well, don't just stand there, he needs help" she said in a croaky voice.
"Right!" the man said as he wheeled round and ran down the stair case as fast as he could.
"I'll go get the nurse" a random student said as he turned round and ran down the hallway.
"I'll go inform the principle" she said as she began to walk down the hall. Unable to say anything the students starred at her hopelessly as she passed. Suddenly she was stopped by a hand which grabbed onto her shoulder, turning back she saw teacher looking at her sternly.
"You'll do no such thing. Head to the infirmary this instant" the teacher ordered. Confused by his words she spoke back.
"Why?" she asked. Not bothering to answer the man gently pushed her out of the way.
"Don't ask questions just do as your told." he said as quickly walked away. Lowering her head down her bangs covered any expression she might have had. There were a few students who looked like they wanted to say something to her but quickly decided against it. An unbearable silence engulfed the hall way with all the students glancing uncertainly from one direction to another.
Suddenly Trevor heard a low groan from An-Jeaki and instantly the three of them turned their heads back to him.
"Ugh my head." An-Jeaki said as raised his hand and placed it on his bleeding forehead. Letting out a relieved sigh Jiwoo gave him a concerned look. Placing a hand on his shoulder he let out a pained yelp. "Ouch, my shoulder hurts badly. There were a number of things they wanted to say and do to him right now but they decided against, after they could berate him all they wanted later.
"Let's get him to the infirmary. Help me out Bea" Trevor said as he grabbed An-Jeaki's right arm and placed it over his shoulder while Bea grabbed his other arm. Pulling him to his feet they began walking slowly towards the infirmary. All the students that noticed them all gave him apologetic looks and made way for them to pass.
"Hey, guys?" Jea called in slightly pained voice. Trying his best not to sound annoyed Trevor answered for them. It was clear that he was in pain so why couldn't he shut up.
"What is it Jea?" Trevor answered.
"That kid, is he alright?" he asked seriously. Exchanging quick glances at the other two he took a moment to think of a reply.
"Not now Jea. Remember that you're the one who got hurt, not him" Trevor said in a voice that he hopped sounded convincing. He really didn't want to talk about that write now, the thought of his friend's reaction if he found out that the kid he protected had ended up dying in an even more horrifying way. The boy who looked no older than ten who just a few moment ago was being assaulted by those guys, no one could have possibly expected that to happen.
Forcing those horrible thoughts to the back of his mind he tightened his grip on Jea's arm and continued walking down the hall when he heard a number of loud blood curdling screams.
"AHHH!". Jumping in surprise all the students turned their gaze back to the window.
"WHAT THE HELL IS THAT"
"What is it now damn it!" one student said in surprise. Turning his gaze back he spotted all the students huddled around the window. Suddenly they all gasped and jumped back in. Knowing they couldn't abandon Jea he turned his gaze to Jiwoo.
"Jiwoo, go check out what's going on" he instructed. Nodding in reply she walked back to the other students who were trembling in fear, some of them where on the floor crying while others where mumbling some incomprehensible words. "What is going on?" Trevor thought as he and Bea watched the other students looking utterly dumbfounded. Tapping a girl on the shoulder Jiwoo asked.
"Hey, what's going on?" she asked worriedly. Not even bothering to look at her the girl raised a shaky finger and pointed it at the window.
"G-Go s-s-see for yourself" she mumbled. Puzzled by her word Jiwoo turned her head to the window and walked over to it, feeling anxiety well up inside her she took a deep breath before she placed her head out the window and peered down at the dead body at the bottom. Almost immediately she saw his body she felt fear well up in her gut. A black ink like substance was spraying out of his body through his upper torso and flew a few metres high before succumbing to the effects of gravity and fell back down to the ground. What happened next was even more shocking. Small cockroach like insects poured out of the black substance in the thousands and began running to the nearest students they could find. As soon as they got someone thousands of them would climb the person's body and force their way in through the mouth or nostrils.
"GET THE HELL OF ME!" a fleeing student cried as he tried to swipe at the insects. But it was no use, the insects moved faster and completely engulfed his body, forced his mouth open and climbed in. The same process repeated itself with all the other students. No matter how fast they ran or how strong they were the black insects always caught and overpowered them.
Eyes widening in this belief of what she saw pulled her head back into the building and backed away from the window. To say he was a little worried now would be an understatement, judging by Jiwoo's reaction there must have been something very wrong going on out there. Fighting the urge to drop Jea and see it for himself he called.
"What did you see Jiwoo?". She didn't even turn to look at them, her body was trembling uncontrollably. "Damn it. What's going on out there". Turning his head towards Bea he motioned for them to check it out. Nodding in response they gently laid An-Jeaki on the wall and said a few reassuring words. Standing up straight they walked up to the window and peered down at the huge pile of bodies buried under hundreds of insects. The instant they saw it they both gasped in shock.
"What the hell are those things" Bea said in shock as he starred down at the scene.
"No frigging way" Trevor said with an equally shocked look. This wasn't real, he was certain this was a dream. There was absolutely no way in hell any of this could be real.
Suddenly one of the students stood up from the floor. He face was twisted in fear mixed with pain as he clutched his stomach, collapsing to his knees he let out load scream before throwing up a mouthful of those black insects covered in his blood. Crumbling down on the ground he moaned in pain for a few seconds before his body went limp. For a moment Trevor was certain he was dead when the boy rose to his feet and stood in a rather odd manner and started walked over to another collapsed student, bending down he bared his teeth and bit into the students leg pulled out a large chunk of flesh and gobbled it down.
"Look, their getting up" Bea stated as he pointed at a number of other students. Just like the other boy they violently throw up the insects which for some reason had died inside them and repeated the same process on any people who were still on the ground.
"What the hell is wrong with them?" Trevor asked no one particularly.
"What the hell! Let go of me you bastard-AHH!" Yelled a student who had somehow managed to escape the insects only to be bitten by one of the school janitors.
They were absolutely speechless. There was nothing about this that felt normal. If this was some kind of sick joke they weren't laughing. Feeling that he had seen more than enough Trevor pulled his head back into the building and rested his back on the wall next to it. Letting out a loud sigh he allowed his back to slide down the wall and onto the floor.
"This isn't real" he said as he placed his palm on his face and tried to calm himself down. While Bea stayed a little longer than him he to eventually pulled his head back into the building and was trembling uncontrollably. To be honest he was scared shitless right now, all of them where. He had always considered himself an emotionally strong person but after seeing those things come out that boy's body he easily found himself shaking with fear just like the other students. In that one moment he forgot about all his other problems, be it buying Jiwoo lunch, or going home to take a long nap. Heck he even forgot that An-Jeaki was seriously injured and was in need of medical care.
"Hey Trevor".
"…".
"Hey!". Snapping out his trance he pulled his arm away from his face and glanced at the voice's direction. It was Jea. Shaking all the unpleasant thoughts out his mind he slowly got to his feet and shook Bea who just like him was so caught up in his own thoughts didn't notice him and jumped back in surprise.
"Come on" he said as he walked up to Jiwoo and tapped her shoulder. Unlike Bea her reaction was not as alarmed and just blinked in surprise. "Come on. This place isn't safe" he said as he forced his legs to stop trembling. Who would have thought those Yoga classes would actually come in handy someday.
Walking up to Jea he bent down and placed his arm back over his shoulder. Pulling the older male up he turned his head back to Jiwoo and Bea who were giving him a look that was both uncertain and fearful.
"What's the matter guys?" Jea asked with a worried look. Since there was no point in lying Trevor decided to be direct about it.
"Look, there's not much time to explain but there are students outside who are killing each other. If we don't get to somewhere safe soon we might be killed if they enter the building" he said bluntly. Giving him a puzzled look Jea spoke.
"What are you talking about, why would they-"Jea said when Jiwoo interrupted.
"He's telling the truth Jea. There's something horrible going on out there" Jiwoo said, somehow she had managed to regain enough of her composure and speak without her voice trembling. Not waiting to hear his reply he turned his gaze back to Bea and was about to speak when they heard a loud crash accompanied by a number of loud moans that he strongly Knew belonged to those cannibals. All the students who had regained enough of their senses jumped up in fear and looked towards the staircase. They could hear the snarls getting louder and louder.
"NOOO! S-STAY BACK" shouted a voice from the lower floors which sounded a lot like the janitor who had ran down the stairs.
"They're here already" Trevor thought in dread as he turned his gaze towards the staircase. This wasn't good, if they were in the building then things would only get worse.
"What the hell do you students think you're doing that was school property you just vandalised!" yelled a teacher who was clearly oblivious to the madness outside. Unsurprisingly it was only a moment before loud wail resounded through the school building followed by an audible crunching sound. Without a doubt, all hell had broken loose downstairs. Not willing to just stand by and let them catch up he flicked the other two on their fore heads and gave them a serious look.
"What are you waiting for? A divine message from God, let's go!" he yelled as he wheeled round and pulled Jea along with him. Exchanging fearful looks Bea and Jiwoo quickly ran after him.
"But where will we go, the entrance is looked" Bea stated anxiously. Feeling very vulnerable Bea took Jea's other arm so they could go faster. Not knowing what to say Trevor remained silent and focused all his attention on putting some distance between them and the danger, it was then that Jea spoke.
"Upstairs" he said in a pained voice. Surprised by his words he glanced at the injured male without slowing down.
"What?" he asked. Grinding his teeth together Jea struggled to keep his voice steady.
"I'm saying that if we want to get away from those killers our best bet is to keep going higher" he stated. If things weren't so hectic right he would probably have given him a light whack on the face, but they had to act fast. Turning them back to the way they came he paid no attention to Bea who wasn't expecting the sudden movement and tripped over his feet with surprised yell.
"Come on" he said to Jiwoo as headed towards the staircase. Lifting Jea a little higher so his feet wouldn't trip over the staircase Trevor and Bea breath became laboured as they ascended up the staircase. After climbing up a few stories they made it to the fifth floor. Glancing round he was surprised when he saw that it was mostly empty with the exception of a few students who were chatting.
"What the hell are they doing? Don't they now it's not safe?" Trevor thought as a frown formed on his face. AS though she read his thoughts Jiwoo spoke out.
"Hey, what are you guys doing, don't you it's not safe?" Jiwoo asked. Glancing up at her one of the guys raised a questioning eyebrow.
"What are you talking about?" he said with a puzzled look as he leaned against the window.
"I'm saying that you should-"she started when Trevor cut in.
"Forget them Bea, let's go" Trevor said. Turning her gaze to him they bespectacled girl frowned.
"But Trevor, we can't just leave them" she protested.
"Huh? You're not making any sense. What do you want?" another male said impatiently. Contemplating what to do next Trevor was about to speak when-.
CRASH!
A large male had broken through the window and fell directly on top of the student who was leaning on it.
"WHAT THE HE-AHHH!" the male yelled in surprise as he crumbled under the large male's weight and fell. Eyes widening in surprise Jiwoo stepped back and bumped into Trevor.
"Whoa, are you alright man" one of the students said in concern. Bending down he grabbed the large males shoulder and shook him lightly. He seemed to be unconscious.
"Yeah I'm alright. Could you guys get him off me". Nodding in reply his two other friends grabbed the large man and started tugging on his shoulders, completely oblivious to the danger. Observing them carefully Trevor noticed that the unconscious male was pale in complexion, there was also a tinge of red on his elbow that the males failed to notice.
"Don't tell me he's… No way, this isn't some movie" he thought dismissively. There was no way something as absurd as that could be true. Or could it.
Suddenly the large male lifted both his arms and grabbed the boy's shirt.
"What are you-" the boy said when he felt a pair of teeth sink into his throat. "AHHH!" the boy screamed in both terror and pain.
"HEY! What do you think you're doing!" one of the males yelled as he came to his friends rescue and kicked the man in his ribs causing him to fall to the side. Bending down he grabbed the man's collar and glared at him. Snarling at him the large "man" grabbed his wrist and sunk them into the boy's knuckles, forcing him to let out a pained scream. He tried to pull his hand back with all his strength but couldn't. Suddenly other boy stood back up and turned his gaze towards his other friend who was screaming in pain as blood dripped out of his wrist. Noticing his friend he turned back and offered him a pleading look.
"Make him let go!" he said in agony as he felt one of his bone crack. Jea let out a shocked gasp as he saw the scene unfold in front of him. What happened next was completely unexpected. The boy grabbed his friend by the head and violently bent it back. "Hey what-AHH!" the boy said in surprise when his friend bore his teeth and sunk them into his throat with a loud crunch, forcing him to let out a loud scream.
Trevor's eyes widened as realisation struck him. This was just like those zombie apocalypse stories where people could get infected by some disease that turned them into a zombie if they got bitten. next to him both Jiwoo and Bea gasped while Jea let out a low grunt.
"No way" Bea said in denial.
"Is this some movie" Jiwoo said in a hoarse voice.
But there was no denying it now. Believe or not this was happening, and they all new it. It wasn't until they heard a loud grunt that they remembered what was going on around.
"AHHH!" Jiwoo screamed in terror at what she saw, Bea gasped and jumped back while Jea and Trevor's eyes widened in shock.
"WHAT THE FUCK!" Bea said as his body started trembling uncontrollably. What the fuck indeed, the was no better way to describe what they saw. The large "man" was standing in front of them while holding in his mouth the boys decapitated head by the chin with blood dripping of his mouth. Coming up behind the zombie man the second student began approaching them at a fast pace. The distance between them and Trevor was simply just to close for him to even consider turning his back.
"Trevor!" Jea yelled in fear as zombie student barred his teeth and lunged at them.
"DAMN IT!" Trevor yelled. There was no time for second guessing, he just acted on instant. He put all his strength into his arms and through Jea out of the way and onto the. Turning back he raised his fist and punched the zombie across his left cheek causing it to trip over its feet and tumble down the staircase.
"Trevor! Are you alright man" Jea yelled in concern while trying to resist the pain he felt on his shoulder.
"JEA LOOK OUT!" Bea and Jiwoo said in unison as a large zombie approached their defenceless friend. Coming to his friends rescue Bea tackled it before it could pounce down on Trevor and tumbled down the staircase the same way the first one had. Letting out a relieved sigh Bea placed his palm on his pounding heart. "I thought I was goanna die" he said as he panted.
"That was way to close. We need to be more careful" Trevor thought as watched the second zombie reach the bottom and fall onto the first one that was in the process of getting up. Screams of agony echoed through the school building as student after student got eaten alive by their own classmates and teachers, and they were getting closer by the second.
Turning to the rest of them Trevor spoke with a serious face.
"I'm comfortable with taking the stairs. We might run into one of them" he stated. Jiwoo looked like she wanted to say something but for some reason decide against it and remained silent while Bea looked at him expectantly. Much to their surprise it was Jea that spoke.
"Why not? We can't just stand around here" the injured male said as he leaned his back on the wall and sighed in exhaustion.
"I know, but I don't think it's fast enough" he said as walked up to him.
"But what other way is there for us to reach the top floor. The school doesn't have any elevators" Bea stated as he starred at the staircase anxiously. He clearly didn't like the idea of them standing in one place while those things were going around eating people. Turning his gaze to the window Trevor stopped and peered through it. There was a fire escape that was directly connected to the wall.
"Perfect. Guys over here" Trevor said. Walking over to him Jiwoo and Bea peered over his shoulders.
"A fire escape" Jiwoo said.
"Come on lets go before they spot us. Bea get An-Jeaki over here" Trevor instructed as vaulted over the window and onto the fire escape that was tinted completely black. He immediately paused when he saw the bodies. There were dozens corpses lying all over the school courtyard with a huge pool of blood surrounding them, it was an utter massacre. Shaking the thoughts out of his head he reminded himself that he needed to focus otherwise they'd all end up losing their lives. Looking up he inwardly cursed when he realised it only went two floors higher which was quite annoying since it was only three floor that separated them from the roof. Deciding that it was close enough he turned back to the rest of them.
"Come on lets go, you first Jiwoo" he said as he out stretched his hands towards her since she wasn't quite fit enough to vault over the glass without cutting herself. Although she looked slightly uncertain she stepped forward and allowed him to lift her over the glass and onto the platform. Next to was Trevor, it was a little difficult lifting him over without accidently cutting him on the broken shards that were still stuck to the window sill but somehow they managed, Trevor placed him gently on the railing with his back leaning against it. Bea vaulted over the window and joined them.
"I'll take Jea. You guys should move on ahead to the top" Trevor said as helped Jea up. Nodding in response the other two went on ahead and ascended up the staircase. Turning his gaze to his friend he felt worry well up in his gut when he noticed how pale he had gotten.
"Hey, how are you holding up man?" Trevor asked in a soft voice. Groaning in pain Jea turned his head towards him.
"To be honest, I think I'm gonna pass out any moment now"
"Don't worry, well find somewhere to rest soon" Trevor said soothingly. To be honest comforting other people wasn't really his thing but considering how much strain Jea was being put through he had to make an exception. "Alright, let's go higher before "they" notice us". Placing his arm over Trevor's shoulder he allowed Trevor to help him up the staircase. When they reached the top they saw Bea and laying low, no doubt trying to avoid getting noticed if there was a zombie next to the window.
Not bothering to say anything to them Trevor laid down Jea on the railing and proceeded to walk over to the window and peeked inside. It was a large room with a desk and a few chairs, there was also a large shelf that had a number of golf clubs, baseball bats and other fitness equipment. The door was closed and seemed unoccupied.
"I was originally aiming for the roof, but I suppose this will do just fine" Trevor thought with a pleased smile. Turning his head back to the other he spoke. "This room looks, safe. If we can seal the door I don't think they'll be able to reach us" he said. Jiwoo and Bea both let out relived sighs.
"That's great, at least they won't be able to find us" Jiwoo said.
"Yeah" Bea said in agreement as he stood up and walked up to the window, he was about to reach for it when Trevor raised his palm in front of him and frowned disapprovingly.
"Don't be so eager, we don't even know whether the open or not" Trevor scolded.
"Can't we just break it" Bea complained. Sighing in both exhaustion and exasperation Jea spoke.
"Bea. I really don't think that would be a smart move".
"Huh, why not?".
"Bea, please be quiet" Trevor said sternly as he dropped his hand turned back to the window. Placing his hands on it he gently raised it up and felt relieved when he found that it was unlocked. Taking deep breathe he tried his best to stay calm.
"I going in first to check it out. You guys should stay here just in case one of those zombies hiding somewhere" he stated with his back to them. Almost immediately he finished his sentence they spoke in protest.
"Like hell you're going in there alone. It's too dangerous" Jiwoo said seriously.
"No way it's too risky. What if you get bit" Bea said with equal seriousness.
"Trevor, were not just gonna stand here and watch you get eaten" Jea said. It wasn't like he wanted to do it on his own, but someone had to do it. And quite frankly he'd much rather take the risk than watch his friends get bitten.
"Guys, be reasonable. However you look at it going there together would be idiotic, and besides I don't think were any safer out here" Trevor reasoned.
"But even so we still-" Jiwoo started when he cut her off.
"I promise I'll be fine" he said with a serious look. Glancing at each other uncertainly they frowned when they realised he was right.
"Fine, but if you there one in there you better get your ass back out here" Jiwoo said sternly. Nodding in reply he turned his head back to the window and gently raised it up completely. Taking a deep breath he crawled in through the window and stood up inside the room, scanning the room for any traces of life he sighed in relief when he found no one there. Turning back to the window he whispered.
"Looks like the cost is clear, you guys can come in" he stated as he scanned the room. Outside the other three exhaled deeply and went over to the window. First Jiwoo came in followed by Bea and lastly Jea who had somehow managed to get in by himself. Not wanting them to get side tracked by giving into exhaustion Trevor spoke. "Come on Bea, help me block the door" he said as walked over to the tall shelf and grabbed onto its side. Jogging up to him Bea grabbed onto the other side and they slowly began pushing it over to the door, much to his irritation the shelf was a lot heavier than he had anticipated. After placing the large shelf in front of the door he carefully observed the shelf's positioning and frowned in dissatisfaction.
"Something the matter?" Bea asked.
"That's a stupid question to ask Bea" Trevor stated as he walked up to the shelf pulled out a large golf club. "Here" he said as he tossed it towards Bea who yelped in surprise and caught just a few seconds before the head hit his face.
"This? What do I need this for?" Bea asked with a puzzled look as he held the club in front of his face and stared at it stupidly. Ignoring the stupid question he grabbed another two of them.
"Jiwoo you should take one too" he said as he walked up to her and handed it to her. Taking from him she couldn't help but ask.
"Why, what are we going to do with these?".
"You guys should try to be a little more insightful"
he said as he walked over to Jea who was resting on the large couch. Bending he placed a comforting arm on his shoulder. "How are you holding up?" he asked.
"I'll live" Jea replied in a weak voice. It was quite clear that he was in a lot of pain and was just trying to bear with it, but if he didn't injury treated soon it would be quite problematic. Standing up he rubbed his head and took a seat next to Jea.
"Alright. We'll stay here for now" he said as leaned back on it and relaxed his tense muscles.
"But what about those things? What if they come up here" Bea said worriedly.
"They won't notice us so long as were silent" he said.
"What makes you say that?" Jiwoo asked.
"Take a look out the window. So far as their behaviour is concerned their like normal zombies who don't have a mind of their own, they don't think of anything other than eating people. Or at least that's what it seems like". He frowned. "Of all the ways for the Apocalypses to strike it just had to be zombies" he said with mock amusement.
"Don't say things like that" Jiwoo said angrily.
"Why not? I'm just explaining things as I see it" he replied.
"But, even so. This isn't an apocalypse. I'm sure the government will handle" she replied.
"Actually in these situations the government will be to busy with their own problems to think about us. Or at least that's how it usually works in the movies" he said casually.
"Trevor-" Jiwoo said when he cut her off.
"I'm just being realistic about this so-"
"Trevor" Jea said in a strong voice which surprised them both. Turning his head towards the injured teenager who was lying on his side on the chair. "If you keep this up their going to find us" he stated. Mentally scolding himself for loosing focus so easily he immediately resumed his serious mode.
"Right, sorry about that" he whispered apologetically. After that an uncomfortable silence engulfed them until Jea spoke out again.
"So what do we do now?" he asked. Without looking at him Trevor replied.
"I don't now I need to think on this... Lets just lay low for now" he replied.
"Yeah, I guess that makes sense". What were they going to do next? Would they even make it out alive? And most importantly, what the hell was going on. In all honesty, he hadn't the slightest idea.
It took forever, but I've finally finished this chapter. I'll try my best to post the next one faster.
Anyway, please read and review
