Chapter Ten: Reason to Protect

A muscular bartender was washing a beer mug with a cloth. He seemed to be deep in thought when Ace and Umbres asked him if he knew a Glaceon girl around the Battle Streets. "Hmmm…a teenage Glaceon girl? Well the only one I know of around here is one of the Street Kings Glass. She's a mighty tough girl I'll tell you that. I don't how many men's pride she crushed whenever they battle her."

"I see…"Ace said in an interested voice. "And where can we find this Glass girl? You know where she hangs out?"

The bartender set the glass down. "Word around here says she hangs out on Outskirt Island whenever she needed to take a break from the battles."

"Right…"He stood up from his stool. "Thanks for your time old man. Come on kid." He started to head to the door.

"Uh..right." He stood up as well.

"Hey kid…" Umbres looked back at the older man. "You're in the E.G academy right?"

He nodded. "Yes sir I am."

"You know a kid called Sanzadora right?" The bartender asked.

Umbres nodded at the question. "Yes sir I do. He's actually one of the top candidates in the academy."

The older man laughed. "I knew that kid could make a name for himself!" He calmed down. "Thanks kid for letting me know that."

Umbres smiled at the man "It's no problems sir."

"Hey kid what's the hold up?!" Ace yelled outside.

Umbres laughed nervously and headed out the door. "I wonder how that guy knows Sanza anyway. Well he did mention his adopted father was someone from the Stoutland race. I'm guessing that was him."

"You're thinking too much again kid." Umbres broke his train of thought when he heard Ace's voice.

The Umbreon male straighten up. "Sorry Ace sir."

Ace sighed. "Come on kid let's go. You know where this Outskirt Island is right?"

He nodded. "I think it's somewhere over at that direction." He pointed out.

"Right let's go." The two men started walking toward Outskirt Island. While on the way, Ace was approached by several of his fans asking for his autograph. Ace honored his fans requests but in truth he thought they were annoying. The signing was done and he and Umbres went on their way. "So what's it like being back here again kid? Bring back memories?"

The Umbreon man laughed. "Feel like I never left in the first place although it does feel like it has changed a bit. I used to bring my sister here."

That bit of information caught Ace's attention. "You have a sister? What's she like?"

Umbres looked up at the sky. "She's kind, gentle and loved by her friends and family. When we were little, some of the other kids would pick on her and I would be the one to protect her. In fact it was that same reason of protecting is why I want to become an E.G in the first place." Ace chuckled. "What's so funny?"

Ace continued to chuckle "I knew there was something about you when I saw you among the rookies. A reason like that will carry you far in the academy and will make you into a fine EG one day. that is if you pass."

Umbres' face lit up. "Thank you sir! I'll make you proud!"

Again Ace sighed. "Don't make me proud. Make your family proud. That's your strength."

"Yes sir!" The other man saluted.

"I SAID I KISSED HER ALRIGHT!"

Both men stopped when they heard a voice screaming out. They looked over to see a girl with long blue hair stand up. They saw another girl whom they thought is from the Magmar race laughing. Ace narrowed his eyes. "A girl who is from the Glaceon race with long blue hair and is sixteen years old." He smiled. "Looks like we found our target. Come on kid."

"Yes sir." Umbres followed his superior but something else was on his mind. "Is it just me or did she just say she kissed a girl?"

"Hey Glaceon chick! We want to have word with you." Ace called out.

The girl sighed and stood up. "Look if you want battle me then win seven battles. Otherwise…" She looked at the two men and she went wide eyed. "No way. Why are you here?"

"Who's here Glass?" The Magmar girl asked.

"Ace…" She whispered.

Marby's eyes widened in surprise. "Ace?! The same Ace who's in the EG?"

The Absol man smiled. "Yes I'm that Ace. It's nice to meet Glaceon girl."

The blue haired girl rubbed the back of her head. "This is so cool. One of the E.G plus one of my favorites is talking me. This is too good to be true." She saw the man behind Ace and she gasped. "No way. I've seen that face before. It's Kylee's older brother but what's he doing here?"

"Excuse me miss but is there something wrong?" Umbres asked the distress girl.

Glass shook her head. "I'm alright and my name is Glass. What does one of the E.G want with me?"

Ace smiled. "Believe it or not it was Virizion who told me about you. She's seen your battle and was impressed so she ordered me and I brought the kid with me to find you. Too bad she isn't here right now to see this."

"Virizion?! The same Virizion who's in the three Musketeers? She saw me fight? When, where, how?" Glass couldn't even fathom the idea of Virizion watching her fight. She wondered how a famous person like here knows about her in the first place.

"Don't ask me why she knows you. She wouldn't tell me herself but from what I see you don't seem very tough." Ace stated.

Now that Glass didn't like to hear. "Hey I know the Street Kings aren't as strong as the EG but no need to put me down that harsh."

Ace smiled smugly. "Then show me how strong you are."

Glass stepped back a bit. "Fight you? An E.G?"

Ace held up one of his hands. "No that would be too one sided." He turned to Umbres. "Feel like battling in this place kid."

Umbres pointed to himself. "Wait me? You want me to battle her?"

The Absol man nodded. "This is a good chance for you. You get to show off your skills you learned and I get to see what Virizion was talking about."

"If you say so sir." He looked at Glass. "Miss Glass let's do our best."

The Glaceon girl couldn't look at him in the eye. She was about to battle her love interest's older brother. She didn't know what to feel about this situation. "Hey Marby, let's clear this place out." She turned around. "Marby?"

She heard a bell ringing out. "Come on people step right up! A battle between one of the Street Kings Glass vs one of the E.G's protégés right here on Outskirt Island! A chance like this won't come up again people. Buy our food as you enjoy the battle! First 40 get their drinks free!"

Glass had an angry look on her face. "Damn it Marby! Don't treat this as a commercial!"

A large crowd gathered in the streets before Outskirt Island. Word got out quickly that one of the Street Kings is fighting. Some want to see her fight and others wanted to see her lose. Glass sighed. "Damn it Marby. Oh well something like this was about to happen anyway." She looked at her opponent. "What would Kylee say about this scene? Who would she root for? Me or her brother?"

Umbres had his own thoughts. "I wonder what Kylee would say if she saw me right now? She probably give me a hug."

However even with the crowd of people, one person saw to be fit to look at the battle at much higher viewpoint. She was standing on top of one of the buildings. "Really Ace, you couldn't take my word for it. Oh well I least I can see her fight again."

Ace stepped in the middle of the battlefield. "All right then people let's get this show on the road. We have the battle between one of the Street Kings Glass from the Glaceon race and Umbres from the Umbreon race who is attending the E.G academy. We all know the rules so let's just get this underway!" The crowd cheered. "Are both battlers ready!?" Both nodded. Ace smiled. "Then let the battle begin!"
