Chapter 10
Dinner that night was a mostly silent affair with Harry and Severus sneaking glances at each other when they thought noone was looking.
Lucius looked up when the meal was nearly finished and began speaking. "Harry I think we need to talk about the legal action we want to take against your relatives."
Harry began to tremble at mention of the Dursleys. He just wanted to forget what they had done to him but it seemed his new guardians were unwilling to let him do so.
He sighed and looked up. "What options do i have?"
Lucius pinned him with a serious gaze as he answered. "You have two choices: we can contact the Daily Prophet with an anonymous tip about all they have done or we can contact the aurors directly and have you submit memories of their abuse. Which course of action shall be taken is up to you and i'll give you a few days to think about it. Another thing we need to talk about is the disturbing lack of even a proxy trial for your use of underage magic. You have had no summons for a trial and from what i can gather they have no intention of making you stand trial. They seem content to simply have you out of school. I think this may be a plot by the headmaster to make you dependent upon him for your education. We will hire tutors if need be but i would rather you be able to be around people of your own age if possible."
Severus cleared his throat at this point. "Excuse me for interrupting, Lucius, but i believe i have a solution to that problem already. As you know, the old fool has been nagging me for years to take on an apprentice . I say it's high time i give in and take one." Severus grinned federally at the mental imaging he had of the look on Dumbledore's faces when he discovered who his apprentice was. The fact that said apprentice was Harry was icing on the cake.
Lucius raided an inquiring brow at Harry. "What did you think?"
Harry nibbled his lip as he weighed the pros and cons. On one hand he would be living and working with the object of his desires. He thought of the conversation he had had with Draco. Doing this might be more of a temptation than he could handle. Quickly taking a deep breath, Harry made up his mind.
"I think it sounds like a wonderful opportunity. I also can't wait to see the look on the face of that old coot when he realizes I've found a way to continue with my education without needing to turn to him."
Everyone laughed at the undisguised look of glee on Harry's face.
After the table had quieted Lucius looked to Harry and said, "We shall go to Diagon Alley on the morrow and squire everything you shall need, including a new wand."
Harry went to bed that night full, happy, and more content than he could remember being in his whole life.
