Chapter 10
Quinn knew the sound, she had heard it once before when she was younger after an apparent attack on the ambassador. Before, the sirens were sounded as a signal before a lockdown that lasted for more than two weeks. Everyone was too scared to ask anything about it, so no one ever did. The worst part was that it was her father whom had sent a request for the lockdown on mysterious circumstances, and obviously by the look on Judy's face he had done it again.
"Um," Quinn swallowed as she tried to keep calm and not freak out Santana, "What happened?"
Judy just shook her head and looked at Santana, "Quinn's father is in charge of some classified sector that manages things that may effect this country negatively. So when a spaceship fell out of the sky, he of course took it seriously. So seriously that he actually thinks that instead of it landing here because of natural occurrences, he thinks that something crashed landed here. And possibly escaped into civilization. So now he's issued a lockdown until they can figure out what that something was."
Santana's eyebrows rose at the casualness in Judy's voice and turned to Quinn.
"We have to go," Quinn said to her, slowly turning to her mother, "We have to go run a few errands before the lockdown."
There was no way that they would be able to go to the space ship during these things. It was already hard enough to go sneaking around in the middle of the night, now they have to worry about the lockdown that came almost every twelve years.
"Okay," Santana said after a moment, "I'll go get Britt and Mercedes."
Santana rushed into the living room while Judy and Quinn stood awkwardly.
Quinn's mind kept racing back and forth. She was worried about whatever the heck her dad was doing. Maybe they found something that proved that there were people on that ship. She was also worried about the lockdown. She vaguely remembered this ever happening before and people said that it was so strict that the people who risked going outside weren't ever seen again. Lastly, she was worried about Santana and the crew. What if they got hurt or taken or worse. Quinn didn't know what she would do if San- if they were hurt in anyway.
"Quinnie?" Judy said after the three times before, trying to gain her daughter's attention.
"Hmm?" Quinn responded, now fully attentive.
"Can I ask you something?" The woman asked carefully.
Quinn winced. She really didn't want to be asked anything at the moment, "Sure."
"Why didn't you tell me about Santana?"
Quinn furrowed her brows, "What do you mean? Why would I?"
"Actually you've kind of already told me about her," Judy smiled at Quinn's confused face, "or should I say, about Santino?"
"Mom," Quinn groaned as she was not in the mood for this, "it's not what you think-"
"I think it's exactly what I think. I've seen the way she's been looking at you."
Quinn turned away and tried not to blush. She knows the looks but her mom wouldn't understand. Honestly she doesn't either, but apparently these looks are just Santana's face and it just happens when she's about to cuss or whatever.
"Everything makes so much sense now," Judy thought aloud, "Why you never usually talked to us about boys or your crushes. I thought it was because you're a teenager and, well, why would you want to share that with your mother? It wasn't even that! It was because you were playing for the other team!"
Quinn's eyes went wide and she placed a cold hand on her hot face. Her mother was analyzing a part of her life that she had yet to properly think about, "Could you not- not right now- please mom."
"No need to be modest, Quinnie, I thought I taught you better than that," Judy said delightfully, almost teasingly, "I wouldn't be. That Santana girl is quite the looker if I say so myself. What would your grandfather say… Oh yeah! 'You better hit it before you miss it.'"
"Okay, we're ready," Santana said as she approached the two blondes, much to Quinn's delight.
Quinn literally pushed the girls out of the door, only giving a quick goodbye to her mother before slamming the door behind them. She set them at a quick pace with her in front hoping that the cold night air would cool down her hot, red cheeks before any of the girls saw her.
It had only been a few minutes when the sirens stopped and it was incredibly quiet outside. Quinn didn't fret much on it, people were probably inside, focused too much on getting ready for the incoming lockdown to notice a few randoms walking down the street.
"Why did they stop?" Santana asked, whom was now walking next to Quinn with the other two behind them, "Has this lockdown thing already started?"
Quinn shook her head, "We just heard the warning alarm. It'll be come on again to tell us that it's completely started and by then we should be back and safe."
"How much time do we have?" Mercedes asked.
"I don't know, maybe an hour," Quinn bit her lip, "An hour and thirty."
"I kind of wish you knew," Santana sighed.
'I hate letting her down,' Quinn sighed. Then she stopped suddenly in her tracks and walked over to a car before squatting behind it. The girls looked at her funny before hesitantly doing the same.
"What's wrong?" Mercedes asked.
"Do we need to steal this car?" Brittany asked hopefully.
"No," Quinn shook her head, "Some people are still out."
Quinn wouldn't have minded it that much if it was a regular day. She would have made up a plausible lie that would have made this so much easier. However, a lockdown was about to happen and she's not the greatest liar, so here they were. Hiding behind a parked car.
"Well, then," Santana motioned her hands towards Quinn, "Distracted them."
"What?!" Quinn squeaked out.
"You distract them and we'll pass by and then give you the signal that we're good. Then we can get back to the mission."
"No. No way."
"Can the signal by a bird call?" Brittany asked, "I'm great at bird calls."
"Totally," Santana smiled, "Okay, you got it Quinn."
"No," Quinn said sharply.
"What?"
"I said no."
"Why?!"
"Cause I'm not doing it."
Mercedes and Brittany looked at each other, clearly confused, but Santana kept her eyes narrowed on Quinn.
"I know them, Santana," Quinn said feeling the need to clarify, though it seemed like a better reason in her head, but Santana kept her stare hard, "Fine. Fine! I'll do it."
Quinn stood to her feet and slugged her way around the car. She took a deep breathe and rolled her shoulders back.
'This couldn't be that bad. Just get this guy out of the way and we're all good.'
A fake smile found it's way on her face as she made her way to the boy sitting under a street lamp on the curb. He spotted her right away and chucked his unmarked bottle to the side as he stood up and wiped his hands on his jeans. His smile was genuine, but Quinn's became more and more fake as she approached.
"Quinn!" He greeted.
"Noah." She said with less enthusiasm, making sure that he knew that she was just being friendly and nothing more.
"That's crazy, I was just thinking about you!" He continued to smile hard, "I was planning on coming over to apologize for my actions-"
"Noah," Quinn folded her arms, "You can't come over. There's a lockdown about to begin."
"I know. My plan was that I was going to stay over there for a little. Get locked in with you all, since you'd probably forgive me so quickly."
Quinn shook her head and looked away. She was so not feeling this, but continued only for the greater good, "What's the real reason your out here? Do you like being locked out of your own town?"
"I could ask you the same thing," He countered, "If you're like me, you're just enjoying the fresh air and if that's the case I say we should enjoy the air together."
"No thanks."
"What?" Puck pouted, "You going to see you're wack ass boyfriend before you're locked away indefinitely?"
Quinn rolled her eyes, "Whatever, Puck."
"Puck?" He smiled and moved closer, "You must have forgave me,"
A small shriek behind Quinn made them lose focus and turn to the source. Santana and Brittany sat on the ground, they possibly tripped over each other (?), and Mercedes stood over them with her hands over her mouth to keep from laughing.
"The fuck is this?" Puck asked, "You're bringing a whole group of girls over to your boyfriend's house?"
"I never said I was going to anybody's house, Noah," Quinn commented as the two girls tried to pick themselves up.
"Oh," Puck laughed, "So we're back to Noah?"
"Yes, we're back to Noah, Noah."
"You know what, fine, whatever! Go to you're boyfriend's house with all your little friends and have the massive orgy that you're planning."
Quinn scrunched up her nose, "You're disgusting."
"You didn't think that when you were all up on this," he motioned at his body, "earlier this year."
"That's because I was obviously delusional to your disgusting, barbaric, neanderthal face, Puckerman!"
"Oh snap, a Quinn insult! Oo, let me put that in my pocket and save it later for when I can actually understand it!"
"You're an idiot!" Quinn screamed not knowing what else to say at that moment.
"Okay, wow, that's enough," Santana's voice said next to her. Quinn didn't even know that the girl had grabbed her forearm in an attempt to pull Quinn away from the mohawk loser, "Come on, Quinn, let's go."
"Whatever," Puck said as Quinn was pulled away, "Hey, hot chick! When Quinn's boy is done with yah and you're still not satisfied, hit a Puckasaurus up!"
"No thanks, mohawk guy," Santana called back behind her, "I don't like douche bags!"
Only a few moments passed before they were far away from Puck and finally Quinn took a calming breathe. She was ready to beat the crap out of that guy if Santana wasn't there. It wouldn't exactly have been the first time either, but it always seemed to get her into some kind of trouble. Quinn knew she had to repay Santana back for that, and the only way she knew how would be getting her to that stupid spaceship. To help get her home.
XXX
Santana looked at the spaceship that they all had arrived on. It wasn't ruined, which is good, but it had taken a beating from the apparent dents and scratches all over its surface. It actually looked in decent shape. The part that worried her was that it hadn't been touch. Nothing blocked off the ship from the public other than the giant crater that it created itself and it didn't even look like anyone had stepped foot in it. She didn't understand how things worked here on Mars, but it still gave her a weird feeling that they would just leave a fallen unidentified space craft alone and issue a random lockdown like that.
She sighed and folded her arms, "Brittany and Mercedes, you guys go check out the inside and while me and Quinn stay on look out. Only for a few minutes, okay?"
"Got it," Brittany said, probably already picking up Santana's discomfort for the whole thing. She led Mercedes into the ship without another word, leaving Quinn and Santana to stand awkwardly alone in front of the space ship.
Santana's mind was going in a million different places. She thought about this weird lockdown and how it was going to affect her and the team. Honestly though, she didn't know how it was going to affect them. How long did these usually last? Would they be able to go home soon? Would the ship even be there when they got back? Would it still be able to work? What about Quinn? What if someone finds out that she's been helping them and she gets in trouble or something?
Santana took a quick look at the blonde girl next to her only to see the girl doing the same. She turned away quickly once she remembered how she had embarrassed herself earlier. It wasn't her fault that she had gotten caught up in Quinn's conversation with that guy. It looked like it was getting all weird, with the flirting and the not flirting, and the last thing Santana wanted to see was Quinn get hit on by some loser who cant even seem to dress himself. Santana didn't notice that she had stopped moving nor did she notice that Brittany was so close behind until they were lying flat on their back in the middle street.
Santana looked up to the dark sky, 'Fuck, that was so embarrassing.'
"Did you always want to be an astronaut?" Quinn asked next to her, making Santana turn her head quickly to her.
"Huh?" Santana asked in case she heard wrong.
"You know, an astronaut," Quinn smiled, "Do Earthlings have another word for it or something?"
"Nah, it's the same there," Santana smiled back then thought for a second as she tried to piece her words together without saying a cuss word, "I guess… Actually no, I wanted to be a singer."
Quinn's face lit up, "You can sing?"
"I've been told so."
"That's so cool," Quinn turned away for a few moments, then turned back with a thoughtful expression on her face, "Why aren't you singer then?"
"I, uh," Santana folded her arms, "Plans change I suppose."
"Oh, okay," Quinn nodded then looked at the sky, "I always wanted to be a writer."
"Are you not?"
"No, big shot lawyer is in my future."
"That sucks, Quinn," Santana sighed.
"I guess," Quinn shrugged, "but I've devised a plan. I'll become a lawyer, sure. But when I save enough money, I'ma get out of here and write a million books in a place where there's no one to judge me on what I should be or do."
Santana didn't respond because she didn't want to interrupt the beautiful daze that seemed to hold Quinn as she gazed at the sky. She stared through the dark like it was looking back at her and the way the moon light highlighted her features made it seem unreal. It's like the extra moons were necessary just for her, to show Quinn's beauty to its full potential. Santana knew then, that maybe, just possibly, she might have a massive crush on this alien chick. Which is complicated to say the least.
"You can always come to Earth," Santana said without really thinking, "You might be judged sometimes, but we do enjoy writers."
Quinn looked at Santana and gave her a heart melting smile. She and Santana knew that was not an option, but Santana still said it and Quinn admired the thoughtfulness of it.
"Maybe one day," Quinn said.
"Sure, one day," Santana looked away, "So what happened with that guy back there?"
"Who? Puck?" Quinn's face scrunched with disgust, "He was being horrible."
"I guessed that much."
"I don't know how else to describe him," Quinn said, already worked up like her was there, "He's frustrating. I can't talk to him without him being… Horrible."
Santana nodded her head and skimmed through the many questions in her mind, "Is he like an ex boyfriend or something."
Quinn gasped and turned fully to Santana, "Is that what you think?!"
Santana slowly turned herself toward the fuming blonde, "Yes?"
"Never," Quinn shook her head over and over, "Never! Not ever. No."
"He just said a few things and I just guessed that-"
"We may have fooled around maybe once or twice but that was before I realized-"
"Eww, but he's a tool, Quinn," Santana whined. The thought of that gorilla man even touching Quinn made her feel angry and like she was going to puke.
"I know. I know," Quinn groaned, "but it was a phase. Everyone goes through that phase, right?"
Santana shrugged, "I guess, Q."
Santana didn't even notice that she had unconsciously given Quinn a nickname until the girl didn't respond back. She just gave Santana a smile and a look that she couldn't understand, so Santana cleared her throat and talked again, "What was it that you realized?"
It took a few moments for her to respond, but when she did she looked more than lost, "What?"
"You said you realized something after you fooled around with that Puck guy. What was it?"
"Oh, I," Quinn turned away, "I don't remember."
"Sure," Santana drew out as she also looked away. She looked up to the top of the hole that they were standing in and realized that it would have been smarter to keep a look out from up there than down here.
"I realized that I didn't like him that way," Quinn said randomly.
"Okay?"
"He was gross and smelt weird and rude and," She sighed and said quietly, "and he had a penis."
Santana choked and with eyes wide looked at the blonde who had her head down and a sad look on her face.
'So alien Quinn is alien gay. Oh if she alien knew.'
"Don't make her feel bad, Santana, say something," Brittany's voice said from in back of them.
It made them both jump and look back, but Brittany just smiled and tossed her arm over Santana's shoulders while giving Quinn a smirk.
"Santana here got out of an relationship right before shipping off to Mars," Brittany whispered, "with a girl."
Quinn looked up and furrowed her brows. Santana was feeling way too uncomfortable with the way this conversation was going so she changed it quickly, "Uh, Brittany where's Mercedes?"
"She's looking around her room cause her weave was looking funky," Brittany said emotionless.
"I hope she hurries cause-"
"Quinn? Quinn?!" A deep voice above them screeches.
They all looked up to see a man in a suit standing on the edge of the hole looking down at them. He was much older than any of them and looked extremely worried as he ran his hand roughly through his blonde hair.
Santana looked over to Quinn, whose eye brows had risen as she whispered harshly, "Oh my God, guys. Its my dad."
"I'm back you guys! Could you imagine how my hair would look without-" Mercedes called as she walked out of the ship, but stopped in her tracks when she spotted the man everyone was looking at, "Who the hell is that?"
"Quinn's dad," Brittany responded.
"Oh."Mercedes said simply.
From the look on Quinn's face and from what Judy had told them, seeing Quinn's dad wasn't going to be very welcoming. Especially since they just completely messed with something close to government property. Santana tried to keep her cool, but it was hard as the older man began to scoot his way carefully down the hole toward them.
A/N: Oh, hi there. This has been a while and I'm so sorry. Time escaped me and I have no excuses. So here's a chapter. I hope its okay. I'll try to put out another one as soon as possible! Oh, the shame! I hope ya'll still like me.
