AN: I know that it has been a while since I posted so please don't kill me. So here is the next chapter.
Chapter 9: Peace
When the avengers arrived back at the heilocarrier, Fury told them to get cleaned up and report straight medic to be checked out. He wanted to make sure they were all alright after the fight they put up that day.
Most of them had minor injuries, but Anya had one in particular that worried the doctors. Her back was still hurting her as well as her ankle. Despite what the doctor that seen her that morning said, Anastasia was going to get the cortisone shot now.
"Alright Anya, I need you to lie on your side." The doctor said. She lay onto her side, facing her father.
She stared up at him with fear and pain in her blue eyes. He took her hand as the doctor prepared to put the needle into her back.
Anastasia gasped in pain as she felt the needle puncture her skin. This was the one thing in gymnastics she hated with a passion. Clint held her hand tight as she bit her lip. She didn't want to scream in pain.
Clint felt his heart tear in half as his watched her. He knew that there was nothing he could do to stop the pain she was feeling.
"Daddy, this hurts." She whispered to him, tears silently falling from her blue eyes.
He knelt down to be eye level with her and calmed her down.
"I know it does baby." He whispered back, smoothing out a wild curl.
Clint looked up at the doctor, asking him if he was finished yet. He nodded, reaching for a band-aid and putting in over the injection site.
"Try to keep her from doing anything that may reinjure her back." He told Clint. "Alright…thank you." Clint said, as the doctor nodded before walking away.
Clint turned to his daughter and smiled. She looked up at him, pain still etched into her eyes.
"Hey…you ready?" Clint asked, helping her sit up. "Ow…yeah…hurts." She replied, wincing in pain. "I know it does…" He whispered, kissing her head.
The pair walked together down to the bridge where the others had assembled. Anastasia really did not care if she was in her pajamas or not. She was tired and did not feel like putting on normal clothing just to change into her pajamas later.
Natasha smiled when she seen her daughter and husband walk in. She was beginning to worry that something had been wrong.
"Hey…what took so long?" She asked.
Clint sat down beside, giving her a smile, telling her that he would explain later, but that Anya was okay. Natasha nodded, satisfied with the answer for now. She was just glad to know her daughter was alright.
Anastasia gingerly sat in the chair beside Thor and sat Indian style. He smiled softly at her, glad to see she was ok.
"You had us worried, young one…your mother especially." Thor said.
Anya smiled up at him, despite the pain.
"Sorry guys…doc had gave me a cortisone shot…which still hurts like heck." Anastasia replied.
Natasha smiled, thankful that Clint had been there this time instead of her. It had not been pretty the last time she had to have one.
"What do you mean by still?" Bruce asked, knowing there was more to the story.
The two redheads shared a small smile as Coulson walked over, carrying a snack for Anya. Clint made a pout face that had Coulson chuckling as he walked by the archer. The other avengers were about see why they said Anya was just like Clint.
"How comes she gets a treat and I don't?" Clint pouted. "Did you get an oil based injection in your back and not scream?" Phil replied. "No."He said his voice childish. "Because I'm the favorite around here." Anastasia added, causing Toney to laugh softly. "Well, there's your answer Barton." Phil told him. "TSNF!" He said, causing anyone who knew how to text at the table or seen the commercial to break out into laughter. "Life isn't fair, Barton." Phil countered.
Anastasia smiled sweetly at him and stuck out her tongue at him. Clint did the same thing in return.
"That is what I call burned."Hill said, smiling fondly at them.
Even Fury who had his back turned to them has a smile on his face. He was glad to hear them getting along.
"Here you go Ana-bear." Coulson said, handing her a bottle of cherry coke and four pies. The pies were chocolate, lemon, apple and cherry. He knew that she had eaten dinner, but needed something to snack on.
Her blue eyes lit up when she seen the snacks and smiled up at him. Phil would always bring her something like that whenever she had a bad or stressful day.
"Thanks Uncle Phil." Anastasia smiled. The older agent smiled, kissing her damp curls. "You're welcome…how are you feeling by the way?" Phil replied. "I hurt." She replied.
Coulson smiled, remembering her saying something similar during the worlds' trials.
"I have heard that before." Coulson teased, causing her to glare at him.
"What does he mean, Scarlet?" Tony asked.
Anya groaned, as Clint and Phil laughed. She hated talking about that day and wished she could erase that from her memory.
"I nearly killed myself during the worlds' trials a few years ago." Anastasia replied.
Steve and Bruce exchanged a look of concern.
"How did you do that?" Bruce asked.
She looked down as she smirked at the memory. She could not believe that she had chosen not to remove that tumbling pass.
"During my last world trials, I had a tumbling pass on floor that was three levels higher that my D.O.D level was then and didn't land the pass then and I almost broke my back." Anastasia replied.
Thor turned to her, shock displayed on his face. He could not believe that could happen after what he had seen her do the night before.
"How badly did you hurt yourself, young one?" Thor asked.
Anastasia smiled to herself, laughing at the memory of doing that trick. She remembered being taken from the arena to the hospital by ambulance.
"Bad enough that I went to the hospital and spent the night in an observation room." Anastasia replied, causing Tony to chuckle.
"Nice Scarlet, so did you make the team?" He asked, causing Clint and Natasha to laugh.
"Yeah, she made it…and walked into the arena the next morning and showed up every last girl there." Clint replied, causing her to blush.
"Did not…I just got a perfect score and landed the tumbling pass the next day…my coach was super proud of me…and me and my best friends all made the team." Anastasia replied.
Just then, a very unlady like yawn escaped her lips as she suddenly felt exhausted. Clint laughed softly, seeing his daughter was beyond tired. He could instantly tell that she had not slept the night before.
Fury turned to see her yawn, knowing that she had not either. Natasha smiled because she knew that her husband was just as tired, if not more because he had not slept in a few days.
"Why don't you two gets some sleep…we all have an early day in the morning." Natasha said.
Anastasia and Clint both looked at her and nodded, knowing that she was right. Neither of them wanted to fight with her so the both agreed.
"Okay…come on baby girl." Clint said, standing and walking over to where she was sitting by Thor. She nodded, already dozing off. He placed her soda and pies into the bag Coulson brought them in.
"Alright…night y'all." Anastasia said, as Clint helped her stand.
The rest of the team said good night to the pair as they walked from the bridge. They could all tell that she was beyond exhausted.
When they reached the room, Anya went straight to the bottom bunk where she slept the night before. Clint headed to change before going to bed as well.
When he came out of the bathroom, he found Anastasia half asleep on the bed. He was so thankful to have her and Natasha safe again.
"Anya, you still awake?" Clint said.
Anastasia looked up and smiled at him. He could see her fighting the urge to sleep. Clint too was ready to sleep.
"Yeah…can I sleep down here tonight?" She asked, causing him to smile.
He knew he was never going to be able to say no to her. Clint was already expecting her to ask. He also knew that she was not going to be able to climb up to the top bunk of her bed.
"Yes, just let me get in first…so you don't hit the wall." Clint teased, causing her to glare.
The teen sat up and moved so that he could get in and lie down.
Clint settled into his spot and motioned for Anastasia to lie back down. He could see the exhaustion in her eyes.
Anastasia laid her head on Clint's shoulder, snuggling into his arms. The archer smiled, placing a kiss onto his daughter's damp curls as he watched sleep take her.
"Доброй ночи, девочка." Clint whispered in Russian as her eyes drifted shut. She smiled, turning closer to him. "Доброй ночи папа, я люблю Вас." Anastasia replied, just loud enough for the archer to hear.
Clint smiled softly as he held her closer, thankful that she had not been seriously hurt during the battle that day. It would destroy him if he lost Natasha, but if he were to lose Anastasia, he would have nothing left to fight for.
"I love you more, Anastasia." Clint told her, knowing that she would most likely not hear him.
A couple of hours later, Natasha finally came in to sleep. She smiled when she looked over at her husband and daughter. It was a welcomed sight to see them both sleeping with content smiles on their faces.
Anastasia was curled into Clint's side with her back to his chest and her arm wrapped around his bicep and her head under his chin.
Natasha's smile grew because the last time she remembered seeing them sleeping like that was when they were on the flight home from San Jose for the US Women's Olympic Trails. The pair had fallen asleep shortly after the plane took off.
Natasha smiled as she walked over to the small dresser and pulled out her loose sweat pants and tank top and went to the bathroom to change. She came out and walked over to the bed to join the two people she loved the most to sleep.
It was only a matter of minutes before Natasha was out like a light and there was peace once again in her family.
