A/N: Sorry I haven't updated in 17 years. I will try to get to update more frequently from here on out and hopefully wrap up the story soon. Thanks for all the reviews, follows, and favorites and I swear I'll make the next chapter longer. Cheers x
Phase 1 was in action.
"Say 'Hey it's Kate-'"
"Do you really think Kate Upton would say that?" Tawni yelled at me.
"Yes?" I had no idea.
"Come on Sonny!" Tawni huffed and took out a cell phone and began texting.
"What are you going to say?" I quickly bounced over and looked over Tawni's shoulder.
"Ew! Watch my bubble Sonny!" Tawni jumped off the couch and let me fall onto the floor. Tawni began laughing her maniac laugh.
"Hey!"
"That's what you get for invading my bubble!"
I got up off the floor and patted down my skirt. I was unhappy with Tawni- not just for this moment, but because she was barely letting me be a part of Phase 1. We all had chipped in money to buy a new cell phone (that way Chad couldn't trace the number to any of us) and Tawni and I had been arguing for the last 10 minutes trying to decide what to text Chad.
I frowned and looked at Tawni, who was still laughing. She tried to stop by biting down on her lip, but some giggles escaped. I went and sat down on my chair and crossed my arms in front of me.
"Oh Sonny, don't be angry." I pouted and Tawni shook her head and came and sat down on the arm rest, "Fine, fine. What do you want to text?"
I sighed, " How about- 'Hey. It's Kate Upton and I would like to go out with you.'" I unfolded my arms.
"Ugh. Fine Sonny! But lets change it up a bit." Tawni grabbed the phone from me and texted, "Hey. Its Kate Upton. Got ur # from a frind." Tawni seemed satisfied and showed me.
I laughed, "Tawni half those words are misspelled."
"Welcome to the world of 'How Normal People Text'" Tawni hit 'send'.
We didn't say it, but we were both excited about this. Pranking Chad was always a favorite pastime at So Random!, and this would be the prank to top all pranks. We sat uncomfortable and agitated, waiting for the 'chirp' that was the ring tone of "Kate's" phone.
"So…" Tawni said and looked down at the phone in her hand. She quickly put it on the coffee table and wiped her hands on her pants, looking around.
"So." I said and then grabbed a magazine and began reading, without actually reading. Tawni looked in my mirror and played with her hair. The rustling of pages and the finger-brushing of hair were the only noises to fill the dressing room.
"Oh I can't take it!" Tawni yelled, tossing her hands into the air.
"I know! Why isn't he texting back? It's been at least 30 seconds!"
"More than that! I would say 45!"
"Well now it's probably 45 since we've been talking!"
We both looked down at the phone, "Oh answer back already!" Tawni grabbed her Coco-Moco-Coco out of her pocket and furiously began applying it.
"You know what we need? A fro-yo run!" I bounded off the couch and began making my way to the door.
"But what if he texts back?" Tawni looked frightened and kept switching her glance from me to the phone, with her lipstick balanced over her lips.
"You know as well as I do that Kate Upton would not want to seem too eager while texting a guy."
"You're right. You're right. But I just want him to text us back!"
"Me too. But fro-yo, let's go!" I went skipping down the hallway. I was in a cheerful mood: my mother had made me waffles in the morning, I was featured in some great sketches, and Thursday was my day off from Mackenzie Falls. Plus, I was really not looking forward to going in tomorrow and having to perform Scene 32 with Chad. In fact, I was repressing that fact as much as I could. I had been distracting myself all day in order to forget the anxiety and push back all of my fears.
I hung back and Tawni caught up to me. We made our way through the labyrinthine studio hallways and into the cafeteria where we came face to face with-well, I bet you can guess who.
"If it isn't the Randoms" Chad had come to get himself a yogurt and was leaving with one in his hand.
"Chad." Tawni and I said together.
"What brings you losers to the cafeteria?" Chad was blocking our way to the yogurt machine. He could be so annoying when he wanted to be. It was strange, things between Chad and I had returned to normal again. I don't know what I expected to happen, but I thought that being around Chad would be a little weird. But he seemed to be trying his hardest to make things appear normal.
"Just trying to get fro-yos, your highness." I said and tried to move past him.
"Eh, eh, not just yet. I need you to come over to Mac Falls for a fitting." Chad grinned.
"What? Why do I need a fitting? I thought I was just going to wear my uniform in the scenes tomorrow." I heard Tawni tapping her foot behind me.
"For some reason your uniform got ruined."
"Oh no! What happened to it?"
"I dunno."
I sighed, "Well do I have to go now to do the fitting?"
"Yep" Chad popped the "p".
I didn't believe that I had to go right that instant, but for once in my life, I didn't feel like getting in an argument with him.
I said goodbye to Tawni and walked in an awkward silence with Chad to the Mac Falls set. I went and got my uniform fitted by that little Asian woman who Chad yelled at, whose name is Sherry, and was happy to retreat to the cafeteria to get my fro-yo, when Chad called me into his dressing room.
"Yeah?" I asked, walking into his room. I had been there too many times this week.
Chad was smirking and flipping his phone in the air, "I wanted to get your opinion on something. I got this text from this girl. I wanna know what you think of her."
I was more than happy to oblige him.
"Really? Who?" I couldn't help smiling a little bit.
"Oh- just a girl. Her name's Kate Upton." This was his moment, he was expecting me to gasp at the mention of her name.
I gasped, "THE Kate Upton?" I put my hands on my cheeks. I was over doing it a little bit, but when Chad is proud of something, it's better to overreact than underreact.
"Yep." Chad leaned back and put his arms out on the back of the sofa. His smirk had never been bigger, "What do you think I should do?"
"Well what did she say?"
"She just said 'hey'. But I bet she wants to go out sometime. Should I go out with her?" Chad was proud, and he was showing off, but there was something off about the way he looked at me. The look in his eyes was earnest. I wondered if he actually did have a crush on Kate.
"Oh, well…what do you want to do?" I knew I had to lead him into going out with Kate, but I felt a little bit bad about it. There was something about the way he was looking at me that made me feel uncomfortable.
"I don't know. I mean, I get why she would want to go out with me. Who wouldn't?" Chad leaned forward, but his smirk dropped from his face as he glanced briefly up at me and then back down. He looked off toward the side.
"But do you want to go out with her?" Omigosh. Heart. Stop beating so quickly. This is ridiculous. Push Chad into going out with Kate/Grady, push him! Stop wishing impossible things!
Chad didn't look at me, "No. Hey I have to get back to set soon. I should probably go." He glanced at his watch and I got up to leave.
Chad quickly turned around and looked at me as I was walking out the door, "Hey."
I turned back around, "Yeah?"
"Um…just see you tomorrow." Chad did a weird half smile at me and I left very confused.
When I got back to the Prop House, Tawni was jumping up and down and Nico and Grady were dancing sitting down, whilst playing video games. Chad had texted Kate back. He had asked her out. I played with the fringe on my dress and tried to smile for my friends. Phase 1: complete.
