Chapter 10

A empty breath escaped the woman's lips. The morning was devoid of all joy. Knowing exactly what was coming at the colony had disrupted what little solace Melina had gathered during the war. It was quick to slap sanity back into someone who was to aloof to pay attention. Pulling her jacket tighter around her shoulders, the woman turned away from her front porch and walked straight to her room throwing her jacket on the bed. Standing there for a few moments to try and gather her thoughts, the woman finally turned and sat on her bed, running her hands over her face. When her dreams started of losing her husband had ceased, and she began looking forward to her future. The Reapers decided to take it all away. How foolish Melina was living in her own fantasy and it frustrated her. Her military training taught her to live in the now, yet she was caught up in everything. Caught up in the happiness, caught up in the excitement of new love. How foolish she had been. Standing up the woman walked over to her nightstand, snapping up the glass of water. Taking a deep swig of water and pulling the glass away from her lips, the woman's emotions finally snapped. Screaming out, she threw her glass at the far wall of her bedroom.

"Keep it together Melina, you might have been foolish but you have to fight to keep what you have. It's not different from anything you have encountered before." She whispered to herself.

Hearing the glass shatter in Melina's room, the Prothean snapped up from his meditations. His form quickly rose up and took no time in getting over to her room. Looking in from the doorway, Teyshan gazed over at the woman, her face red, her hands running through her umber curls. Taking a step carefully around the broken glass, he reached out and pulled the woman into a warm embrace. Feeling the woman's arms wrap tightly around his waist. He sighed softly.

"I've been so foolish Teyshan, I've been so wrapped up in everything I forgot about the threat and forgot about your safety." Melina's voice was barely above a whisper. The Prothean peered down at her. Reaching one hand up to her chin and pulling her face up to look at him, he shook his head. Those strong golden eyes had always drawn the woman in with their powerful gaze.

"No, Melina. Not foolish. You knew home was safe, one of the safer places to be. Do you think the Citadel is safe? No. Plus you were still doing your job. Not foolish. Not weak. Strong. We are still going to fight to keep this.. Right?" Teyshan's voice was soft but stern, his golden eyes searching hers.

"Yes, we will fight for this. I just.. Got caught up in the anger." The woman looked down for a moment before looking back up at him.

Before the woman could say anything more. Teyshan leaned close to her and pressed a gentle kiss against her lips, pulling back just as quickly as he planted the kiss. It made the woman's words catch in her throat. Taking in a comforted sigh. Melina looked deeply into Teyshan's golden eyes.

"I'm lucky to have you, lucky enough to have even met you." A weak smile spread acrossed her cheeks.

"Do not worry Melina, not worry about losing me. I will be by your side for as long as you live" Teyshan gripped her shoulders, his gaze growing stern once more.

Nodding, the woman's smile grew a bit more warm. For as much as her gut was screaming at her to panic and to want to throw him in a cellar to protect him. She knew he belonged in this fight as much as she did. Teyshan slowly pulled away from the woman, seeing as she was no longer upset.

"I guess I should clean up this glass. Don't need to be getting any cuts." Melina emptily chuckled. Her voice still sounded a bit pained, but as long as she was calm Teyshan had no real room for concern. Since the assassination attempt, the Prothean had kept a closer eye on Melina. Granted she had been more happier, she was more emotionally unpredictable and a bit angry since he first met her. He took it upon himself to safe guard her and to keep leading her ahead on a better life. One where they both didn't have to worry anymore. Taking another careful step out of her room, Teyshan promptly headed over to the kitchen. Looking under the counter, he picked up the broom and dust pan. Walking back over to the doorway of her room, he kneeled down and started sweeping up the glass. Melina was already picking up the larger shards and throwing them into her trash bin.

"After this war is over Melina, we should go some where far away for a long, what you call vacation" Teyshan's voice was rich with promise. Perking up from the idea, the woman smiled brightly.

"I like the sound of that, will give us something good to look forward to." She chuckled.

"I was thinking this Arizona"

"Oh bloody hell Teyshan is so hot there. I hardly call that a vacation spot. I mean unless you are into hot weather but, I'm more thinking somewhere away from earth. With a beach, and a ocean and sun, and alcohol.. Lots and lots of alcohol" Melina giggled.

"I don't believe I have ever seen you intoxicated Melina" Teyshan's voice grew tight.

"I don't really drink often" She sat back on her legs, looking up at him. "But when I do.. Yeah its not pretty. Lets just say I like to 'live it up'" She giggled even more.

"Why not 'live it up' now?" Teyshan inquired, his golden eyes full of curiosity.

"Reaper war, I'd prefer to keep my head on my shoulders." The woman's smile partially faded. "But it will give me something to look forward to after this war is over. Plus I'd like to know what you are like when your drunk." Her smile reappeared bigger then before. Teyshan only scoffed, shaking his head.

That evening the woman was left throwing cloths on the floor from her dresser. A small band of sweat left beading around her brow. It was hot outside, yet she felt this huge urge to need to pack and gather her things together. Since news broke the previous day that the Reapers had began to turn their focus on her little colony, she wanted to get her things together and get to a safer place. Then she would turn her focus on helping the colonists fight. Pulling out her Widow from it's case, she checked it's parts to make sure it was in full functionality mode. She had remembered she left the practice slugs in it.

"Shit.. I can't find anything" She snapped to herself

"Melina?" Teyshan's voice called out from behind her. Standing up straight and looking over her shoulder, the woman gave him a brief smile. Her fingers began pulling up her messy curls into a ponytail when Teyshan stopped her. He reached up and pulled her hands away.

"No"

"No what?" She curiously asked.

"It'll still be a few days before the Reapers show up Melina, there is no need to rush right now. We still have time. Let us spend this time together like there is no Reapers. For me" The Prothean's voice dropped down, his sub harmonics rumbling in a tone Melina found very comforting.

"Ok… I can accept that." her brow rose.

Teyshan pulled himself away from her, he wore no armor, only his skin tight under suit. Reaching around, he pulled off the top half of his suit and dropping it down to his feet. Before he could even open his eyes, Melina had pushed herself up against him, planting a deep kiss upon his lips. Groaning a bit in the kiss, Teyshan softly pulled back, cupping both of her cheeks in his hands. His golden eyes gazing down at her.

"I knew of your feelings, for a long time now Melina. I knew since the Citadel. The way you would look at me. There was a softness in your eyes." Teyshan leaned close and nuzzled her cheek, taking in her scent. He could feel her breath heavy upon his own cheek. Yet the woman didn't respond. She seemed transfixed on the whole moment. Her heart raced. He could feel her pulse pumping hard. In moments like this and in battle, his mind cleared. Everything became sharp and he was able to focus better then he normally would. It excited him. Pressing his body right up against hers, he leaned close to her neck, pressing gentle kisses and nibbles up to her ear. Melina moaned softly from his touch. How did he know what to do to make her react so well.

Melina managed to wiggle herself out of her own shirt. Her umber curls falling in front of her face. Teyshan reached up and brushed them out of her eyes. Dropping her shirt to the floor and gazing up at Teyshan. His face looked so gentle, so happy. His golden eyes focused in on her as if he was a lion hunting its pray.

The Prothean gently picked Melina up in his arms. Carrying her over to her bed, he laid her down. Slowly crawling over her form, he leaned down, placing gentle kisses down her neck and over her chest. The woman reached up at Teyshan's form, his muscles rippling under his thick skin. Her fingers exploring every bit of him. She was intoxicated by him, the way he spoke to her, the way he kissed and touched her. How noble he grew when dedicated to a cause. It all drove her very crazy. He sure knew how to make her feel good.

Stretching out in the bed, a sliver of light peaked in through the curtains of her room. Melina leaned up a bit, rubbing her eyes. Looking over to her right, her brown eyes gazed over the naked sleeping form of her Prothean partner. Leaning over, she placed a tender kiss on his cheek. He shifted under her touch, one of his golden eyes peeking open.

"Have I ever told you how attractive you are?" Melina beamed.

"Mmm" the Prothean only rumbled.

Feeling an arm slip around her. Teyshan pulled the woman close to him, holding on her form tightly. The Prothean nuzzled his face into her shoulder and took in a sigh of comfort his mouth slightly parting. Melina laid close to him, looking up at the ceiling, she watched the sunlight dance across the room in slivers. Her eyes began growing heavy once more, but she caught herself from falling asleep once more. Everything felt so perfect. She didn't want this moment to end.

"If you would of told me I would have been making love to a Prothean a year ago, I would of laughed the blue off an Asari's ass" Melina giggled.

"Oh?" Teyshan rumbled.

"Yes, and what about you?" She inquired

"I would have had them executed" Teyshan's voice was soft.

The woman started laughing, his seriousness to that question was a bit unexpected. Teyshan was a brutally honest being. Something Melina quickly got used to. It still caught her off guard from time to time. There was still a lot to learn about him, but of the many months they had spent together. She had never clicked so well with someone before. Between their unique humor, banters, the way they fought together. To how well they protected each other. It was a beautiful relationship they had. Something so lucky to have graced her life. She wouldn't change it for the world.

Authors Note:

So I decided to take this story down a more darker route. I've got one or two more chapters planned for this particular story. Then I will be writing a sequel! Anyway this chapter has been long over due. I apologize for making everyone wait for so long. Thank you those who have stuck around. I have just been incredibly busy. Don't forget to check out my one-shot spin-off story called 'A Lemon for a lemon, a orange for a orange' It's about Teyshan discovering food. Until then. Happy Reading!
