(Allison)

I watched Dad shoot and kill the mountain lion. He looked back at me sadly and I knew that he hated to kill an innocent animal.

"Allison! Allison! Mr. Argent! Come help, it's Karen! She fell and hit her head!"

I shot over to where Scott was with Karen on the ground in front of him. Her breathing was shallow and her head was bleeding. I tried to do what I could but I didn't have the knowledge or the medical training to help her. Mom knelt down beside me and Scott's mom knelt down on the other side of worked together to help Karen. Her dad was being taken to the hospital for his shoulder and now Karen needed to go. The paramedics loaded Karen into the back of the ambulance, I asked Dad if I could ride with Karen and he said yes. I rode beside her as one of the paramedics was driving and the other one worked on trying to stop Karen's bleeding. Once we got to the hospital I was told I had to wait in the waiting area. My parents, Scott, Stiles, and Lydia showed up a few minutes later. When the sheriff got there the doctor came out of the double doors and told him about Karen. I stood beside the sheriff who put his arm around my shoulders, almost subconsciously. Karen was okay, she had cut her head and had a big bump on her forehead, her wrist was sprained, and she was bruised everywhere. The doctor wanted to do a hearing test to make sure that the head injury hadn't decreased her hearing level anymore. The doctor smiled and told Sheriff that Karen was going to be okay and he smiled at him. Sheriff hugged Stiles, Scott, Lydia, and I and sat down.

Two hours later, Karen walked stiffly out of the double doors. We all stood up, but Karen wasn't looking at us, she was looking at the nurse that was signing to her, signing back better than someone with a sprained wrist can normally do. She looked serious and when she noticed all of us standing there she stepped in front of the nurse and waved her brother over. He watched intently as Karen signed with a speed and precision that she didn't normally use when signing with me or Lydia. I caught a few words but they didn't make sense. Stiles signed back just as fast as Karen and when the nurse signed something to him, he smiled. Karen looked up at her brother and broke into a huge smile with happy tears running down her face.

"Karen," Sheriff Stillinski waved at Karen to get her attention. She turned her eyes to him and signed a phrase that I don't think she ever thought she would sign.

Daddy, I got some of my hearing back.

"You what," Sheriff looked confused. He turned to the nurse and she smiled, obviously happy to be able to deliver such good news.

"Sheriff, your daughter has regained about twenty percent of her hearing. She should be able to hear a little more than she previously could, however, she still has to have hearing aids and signing will still be the best way for her to communicate, that way she doesn't strain her ears trying to hear conversations."

"Is this permanent?"

"Yes, sir. It is."

"Thank you, nurse."

The nurse walked away and we all stood in stunned silence. Dad, who was standing behind me clapped his hands together once, Karen looked around and when her eyes connected with Dad's she smiled. Then we all moved to hug her and each other. Scott went to hug Stiles, but Stiles didn't hug him, he just stepped to the side and hugged his Dad. This was a great way to end my birthday.

(Karen)

When the nurse entered with my hearing test results and she told me that I had regained twenty percent of my hearing, I smiled. I was so excited, but I had so many questions. She helped me out of the hospital bed and walked me to the waiting room where she signed that my family and friends were waiting. I wanted to make sure that I had all the facts before I told everyone that I could hear more now than I had been able to since I was five years old. I let Stiles be the first one to know and I smiled when he realized what it meant. We smiled and told everyone. Then, Mr. Argent clapped his hands together and I heard it. Even without my hearing aids in. I was so excited. Dad said that he had to do some work at the station so I was staying the night with the Argents again tonight. I smiled, knowing that Allison and I would be testing to see what I could hear now. Maybe we could even get Kate involved.

A few nights later, with Allison still grounded from seeing Scott anywhere but school, I was once again at the Argents house. Scott had snuck in the window a few minutes ago and I had excused myself to the kitchen so that they could have a few minutes of alone time. I was sitting in a stool at the bar watching Mrs. Argent cook when Kate and Allison walked in. My phone dinged a second later and I saw that it was from Allison.

'Kate almost caught Scott.'

'How the heck did y'all manage that?'

'Well, we were in the middle of something and Kate wanted to come in and have a whole conversation about my family history.'

'What could ya'll have been in the middle of?'

At that Allison looked up at me and quirked her eyebrow. I kind of stared for a minute until it clicked in my head.

'Oh.'

'Yeah, why do you think I'm wearing a jacket in the house?'

'I thought you were cold.'

'No, my bra is either on the floor in my room, or possibly in the front yard right under my bedroom window.'

'Okay, I told you that he was eager.'

'Yeah.' At that moment Mrs. Argent called us all to the table. We sat, ate and talked. Allison and I excused ourselves to our room. We talked all night.

Scott and Stiles had been acting weird all day. Scott was avoiding Allison and Stiles was just being himself. I smiled as he and Scott left the lunch table, Allison followed behind, calling Scott's name. He ignores her so Allison and I went on to class. Later on, in Econ with Finstock, Allison hopped in the seat behind Scott, as they chit-chatted I talked to Stiles about Dad. He told me that Dad had been really stressed lately. I knew that so I told him to make sure that Dad still ate properly. He assured me that he would. I smiled as class started and Allison and Scott were still talking. I turned my hearing aids down a little, even with the new hearing I had to turn it down. Finstock started in on Scott, picking on him for not doing the reading. Scott was starting to look really mad when I saw Allison slip her hand under the desks and grab onto his hand. He visibly relaxed. When I turned to smile at Stiles about he looked as if someone had just threatened to kill him and someone else had saved him. I signed to him asking what was wrong. He signed that nothing was. When the bell rang Allison and I left, after she kissed Scott. The rest of the school day went by without a hitch.

After dance Jackson and Lydia picked me up. We were supposed to be having movie night at Jackson's house and I was going to be spending the night with Lydia, however when I climbed in the back of Jackson's car, Allison was sitting in the back and she looked very worried.

Allison, what's wrong?

Scott was late for our study date and then he sent me this really cryptic text that told me to come to the high school.

Maybe he got held up at school with lacrosse or detention or something. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about, Allison.

Yeah, I hope so.

We ride in silence as we reach the high school. I see Stiles' Jeep so I know that I need to go in with Allison because if I don't Allison might never find Scott and Stiles. We climb out of the back of Jackson's cramped little car and Allison and I head towards school. Jackson stops Allison and they talk quietly a little ways away from me. I can't hear what they're saying but I can see the look on Lydia's face. The door of the school is propped open and Allison and I split up, trying to find the boys. Allison calls me about fifteen minutes later and tells me that Scott locked them in the science lab, that Derek is the serial killer that my Dad has been hunting and that Scott hasn't come back to the Chemistry lab. I tell her that I'm going to go find him and that when I do I'll prove to her that it can't be Derek doing all the killings. I head for the gym when something flashes out of the corner of my eye. I'm knocked down and a rag is held over my nose. The sickly sweet scent of chloroform overwhelms me. I scream and struggle but I finally lose consciousness.

(Scott)

I hear Karen's muffled screams on my way to the gym with Lydia's Molotov cocktail. I hear a body being dragged toward the gym. The scent tells me that the Alpha has her. I really hope she's unconscious so that I don't have to explain it all to her. Karen is so strong and brave on the outside but ever since the bad thing happened when we were four she is very timid and shy. I worry when I look in the gym and don't see her. All of a sudden I hear the Alpha's roar. Everything is blank.

(Stiles)

Karen and Scott aren't back. Karen isn't answering her phone, Scott isn't back yet. I don't know what to do. After the Alpha's howl Jackson collapsed but declared that he was fine. I saw the claw marks on his neck, I hope that he isn't a werewolf too. I see Scott's silhouette at the window on the door. Allison stumbles to the door trying to see if it's Scott but the fleeting shadow that is my best friend, has disappeared. We all hear the sirens then. Maybe Dad can find Karen. That girl could get into the onliest situations. I just hope that she hasn't hit her head again. The nurse said that another hard hit to her head could permanently damage her hearing to the point to where she can't hear even with the hearing aids. I'm so worried that when Dad and the other deputies finally get into the room I practically shout gibberish at Dad. He finally calms me down but it still takes Lydia and Allison, who are clutching each other in an attempt to remain calm, to translate for Dad what's wrong. He was hoping that Karen had somehow gotten herself home and not been in the school. However, Karen and I aren't lucky enough to not be caught up in the werewolf drama of his town and Karen doesn't even know that it is werewolf drama.

Scott shows up a few minutes later and we help Dad look for Karen. Where could she be?

(Karen)

I wake up, slightly nauseous and I realize that I can't see anything. Where am I?
