Chapter 10
Confrontment
Three days passed since they left the Pokémon Center and so far the journey was incredible in Temperance's eyes. Minus the Team Rocket incident, that was worse than the time she got food poisoning on top of an already broken rib when she fell down the stairs after she fainted. Maybe it wasn't as bad as that.
Temperance, Ash, Brock and Pikachu walked down the silent, clear path that was outlined in trees. The sun was high and the trees were different colors as fall seemed to seep in just like it had at home.
"How far are we to next gym?" Ash asked.
"We might be in Darce City by nightfall; that is when the city is supposed to come to life. And according to my guide, Darce City's Gym is only opened at night." Brock answered.
"What kind of gym is it?" Temperance questioned.
"It's dark type gym. I guess there is a reason why the city is only function at night."
"Maybe we should go during the day time to see why, maybe we'll see a legendary Pokémon or something that comes out during the day." Ash suggested.
"So what should we do until then?" Temperance asked.
"Train, dark types are interesting Pokémon and if they have a Spiritomb, then it has no weaknesses. Plus we don't know how strong their Pokémon are so if we train a bit then we should be able to at least stand a chance of going against their Pokémon."
"Not a bad idea," Brock said. "So how about a battle?"
"Alright! How about a two on two battle Temperance?"
"Okay," She agreed as she took out her two Poké balls. She was about to release her two Pokémon when a sudden noise of an engine stopped her in her tracks. "What was that?"
"I don't know, let's go find out." Ash said and the three of them started running down the path.
There was another sound of machinery that was suddenly on top of them. Temperance looked up just to see a large, grey-green aircraft descending in front of them. She looked at the large craft as she tried to remember where she had seen it before. The door opened and a large looking man with a black vest and dark grey cargo pants and shirt came out with four or five other smaller guys behind him. Then she remembered why they looked familiar.
"These guys are with Hunter J!" Temperance shouted out loud.
"Dammit, they must have found you on their tracking system." Ash growled as he turned his attention to the grunts. "What the hell do you guys want?!"
"Come on now, you already know the answer to that." The head said. "We are obviously after the girl. So we don't have to get into a fight I came out here to ask politely is she would come with us."
"Just because I'm a pacifist doesn't mean I going with you peacefully." Temperance told them.
The grunt grinned. "Good, that means we get to have a bit of fun by hunting down our objective."
"Let's get out of here." Brock suggested.
Ash and Temperance nodded and the three of them ran to the bush. As they ran, Temperance looked back to see a net coming at her. She panicked and then she tripped as the net flew over her head into a tree. 'Thank god for clumsiness.'
She got back up again and continued after her friends. After a few minutes, she noticed that they were gone. She decided to go faster when something grabbed her bag and she was lifted off the ground. She almost screamed when a hand was placed over her mouth and she was dropped on a branch of the tree. She was about to lick the offender when they turned her around. Ash, Brock and Pikachu were in front of her with their finger to their lips. Ash pointed up and then started to climb the tree. Temperance followed in silence as Pikachu jumped from branch to branch. When the four of them got to a good height they sat on the branch in silence. The silence was broken as the goons appeared below as they ran past their tree. Temperance released the breath that she didn't realize she was holding.
"I can't believe that it worked." Brock said in awe.
"Who came up with this idea?" Temperance asked.
"Me," Ash answered. "By the way, nice trip."
Temperance glared. "Do you think it's safe to go now?"
"Not yet, let's wait up here for a bit until they run past here again to head back to their ship." Brock answered.
"But what about their little pinging device? They will find me eventually."
"I don't know; maybe there is a way to block their signal like the Pokémon blocked Ash's."
"The only things I can think of is distrusting the satellite signal that they using." Temperance thought. "Wait, I know why don't we disrupt the electric magnetic field?"
"And how are we supposed to do that?"
"Pikachu's thunder bolt-" She shook her head. "Never mind that wouldn't work to create an EMP wave."
"No it wouldn't." Ash answered in frustration. "I would give the idea a shot to call Palkia, but it's too dangerous for her to come here even if she disturbed space."
"If I were Sapphira she would probably just ask Palkia to send them to outer space, but we would kill them. That would be wrong." Temperance sighed. "Got any ideas Brock?"
"Rock Tomb; that might work."
"It might work to keep J's goons in for a while and if the rock is thick enough it should block out their outgoing signal for backup." Ash agreed to the thought. "Let's do it!"
"We can't." Brock stated.
"Why not?"
"Because we have to wait for the goons to get back to their ship."
"Oh yea." Temperance sighed as she sat down on the branch. "Anyone want to play a game while we wait for them to go by again?"
"What kind of game?" Ash asked.
"I spy?"
"Yea I guess so, even if they do decide to follow that signature we are too high in the trees for them to find us."
"Cool, we can see them, but they can't see us. Reminds me of another battle tactic."
"Planning on another way to battle on your journey." Brock asked.
"Yes, now I spy with my little eye, something that is green."
"Tree?"
"No"
"Your shirt?" Ash asked.
"No."
"Her signal is around here somewhere." Someone from below shouted.
"But how? We checked this area already." Another one said.
"Spread out and look, climb a few trees if you must but I doubt she'd be up them."
"Yes sir." A bunch of them said at once.
"We better climb higher." Ash said and he started to climb. Temperance followed along with Brock and when they couldn't go any higher they sat and waited for the noisy hunters to leave.
After ten minutes of shouting, yelling and people falling out of trees; they decided to leave. "She's not here ma'am."
Temperance strained to listen to who the guy was talking to.
"Perhaps the systems broken," a voice she recognized well. "Come back to base then, I'll see what is wrong with it and we can start the hunt again tomorrow."
"Yes Ma'am!" They called again and then took off towards their miniature ship.
"The leaf in Brock's hair?" Ash asked in the open.
"That's all you have to say?" Brock asked.
"How about 'that was easy'?" Temperance sighed. "And yes it was the leaf in Brock's hair."
He pumped his fist into the air. "I am a master. Now let's get down before they see us up here."
They climbed down just as the carrier flew past the trees.
'I'm glad I wasn't up there; I would have gone flying.' Temperance thought.
The three of them made sure it wasn't a trap before they left the protection of the woods. When all was clear they walked out and started towards the next town. It was a silent agreement that wasn't spoken; they would have their practice in the city where Hunter J would less likely show up.
The walk of peace lasted about three steps when a purple blast of what looked like a Dragon Pulse appeared in front of them sending them off their feet shouting in surprise. Temperance looked up at the direction the Dragon Pulse came from and saw only the glaring sun. The sun disappeared as a large air ship appeared out of its invisibility. In front of that was a Salamence diving towards Ash with fire in its mouth.
"Ash move!" Temperance screamed towards the dazed teenager.
He snapped into attention and rolled backwards to a stand just before the flamethrower attack hit the spot he was in a moment before creating a scorch mark on the ground. Temperance scrambled to her feet to avoid the dragon Pokémon's way as it flew by with J riding on its back. The hunter looked towards her with a grin of pleasure and Temperance immediately felt like prey. Temperance was terrified at what the woman could do, she had escape a certain death once before by legendary Pokémon. She seemed hell bent on revenge to kill Ash, if there was one thing she figured out quickly was women who want revenge try very hard to get it. And she was a professional hunter; she knew what she was doing and Temperance happens to be her target currently who thought a step ahead of them. Temperance didn't like being a step behind. But if there was one thing that was going their way, they didn't have a clue about Ash being the person from Pokémon world to complete their goal.
Temperance was dragged out of her own thoughts when Brock shoved her to the ground landing on top of her.
"Ow." She complained.
"Sorry, but J was aiming her cannon at you." Brock replied getting off of her quickly.
"Thanks."
The salamence went high in the air for a turn around.
"I think we should retreat, our Pokémon at their level right now won't be able to go against Salamence." Temperance stated as J turned towards them like she had predicted.
"Pikachu could."
"I don't think Pikachu could go against her other Pokémon and her men by himself." Brock pointed out.
"Into the trees then," Ash stated
They took off towards the trees when their path was blocked by flames of a flamethrower. It took over the bushes quickly and the heat of the flames brushed against their faces. They took a few steps back away from the fire.
"You really thought I was ignorant enough to just let my men leave without the acquired target?" J questioned in a mocking tone, "Stupid children."
Temperance could smell the fire consuming all the living forestry. "Just leave us alone, J."
"I can leave your friends alone if you come with me without resistance."
"Yeah right, you were just trying to kill Ash a second ago."
Hunter J sighed as she pointed her cannon at Temperance. "I don't have time for this."
She fired and the three of them scattered. J took out a Pokéball while firing and Drapion appeared in front of Brock. Temperance grimaced at the thought of Brock getting caught by the Pokémon, but kept dodging. She finally saw a purpose for the many games of fireball and dodge ball back in seventh grade. Ash tried to get out of J's line of sight as Temperance kept moving out of the way while Brock was trying his best to avoid Drapion's claws. Then, J changed her game as her cannon opened slightly at the top and two little cannons appeared and started to fire at the three of them at once. The little cannons seemed to move on their own as they were targeting at Ash and Brock on separate sides of the road and avoiding the purple scorpion. Temperance ducked under a blast just as Brock tripped on some rumble from the Dragon Pulse attack. J's cannon beam hit him freezing him on the spot.
"Brock!" Ash and Temperance shouted, but their grief was short lived as they had to dodged the two cannon blasts.
Drapion turned to Temperance as the other cannon turned to Ash. Temperance jumped away from the claws of the giant scorpion. It really was taller than any Drapion the Pokédex stated it was, it was supposed to be four foot three, but it towered over her by almost a foot and she was five foot five. Its arms were as long as it's body and had strong looking claws at the end of them. Fear built up in her at the thought about being in the grasp of the Pokémon. It could have easily torn her in two if it wasn't following J's orders, she needed her. Drapion's claw came down on her and she screeched as she stumbled barely out of the way. Its claw hit the road and made a giant hole in it. A shot form the cannon just missed her foot when she tripped over her own feet reminded her of J's cannon.
Temperance felt heat on her back as she moved backwards while standing back on her feet. Smoke filled her nose as she coughed expecting clean air when she breathed. She took a quick look after dodging J's aim. The forest was blazing in flames as it spread. She dodged again and realized how tired she was getting and the smoke was starting to irritate her breathing. She took another look and became horrified that there were still some Pokémon trying to make their way out and were coming in their direction. There were some trees and bushes that weren't on fire but it wasn't much compare to the raging fire that stung her eyes. The Pokémon ran passed her and Drapion separating the two for a moment. A stantler almost ran her over as it left to the other side of the forest. A starly flew in front of her face and blocked J's cannon blast. It dropped like a stone in front of her just as Drapion went to grab her.
She growled in frustration. "J stop it, these Pokémon are innocent to this fight!"
J fired and Temperance rolled out of the way as a weird pumpkin Pokémon was hit instead. It froze as other Pokémon went around it. "Then they shouldn't be getting in the way. But this is your fault as you keep moving out of the way of my aim." J replied without any emotion. She pulled out a second Pokéball and Ariados landed in front of Ash knocking him to the ground. It hissed loudly as Ash stood up again and took a few steps away from the giant spider. Pikachu jumped in front of Ash with sparks coming out of his cheeks.
"Pika." Pikachu warned angrily.
Ariados hissed again, but Temperance didn't get to see what it did as she dodged Drapion's arm. She was caught by its tail as it swung at her. She lost her breath as it got her right in the gut and screamed as she was sent air bourn. She hit a dead tree, or at least she figured as she landed on the ground the tree was right on top of her. She felt like her entire chest was crushed, but knew it felt a lot worse if she really did have something broken in there. But the tree was still heavy and she couldn't move from underneath it. She couldn't breathe properly and it killed her to see the smug look on J's face as she looked down at her. She struggled against the weight of the tree as Drapion watched. Ariados and Pikachu were both having a starring contest as Ash moved out of the way from the two motion cannons' shots.
"Temperance!" Ash called out taking a look back at her. "Are you alright?!"
She was about to answer when J caught her attention and saw her move all three cannons in his direction and Ariados power up one of its legs. "Ash watch out!"
"Wah!" Ash shouted as he was sent flying on his back by Ariados' Poison Jab.
"Pikachu!" Pikachu cried as Ariados used its string attack trapping the poor Pokémon.
Temperance struggled even more under the tree. Then, J shot Ash with the cannon freezing him on the spot. "J you bitch, you better hope you are still on Salamence when I get out from under this tree or I swear you will have a very bad day."
"You're loud." J sighed in annoyance as Salamence landed beside Ash and the tied up Pikachu. Pikachu was about to use an electric attack, but J shot her cannon at the Pokémon too. "And I thought you were a pacifist, according to your sister at least."
"I'm not when it comes to hurting poor innocent Pokémon. What have they done to you and you weren't even here for them, and yet you shot them!" Temperance shouted and looked over at the Pokémon that were lying on the ground or standing, frozen in time. There were about ten of them in total. "This was about you wanting to catch me, not about this forest that is being burnt to the ground or the Pokémon in it. It wasn't even about Ash or Brock this time and yet you went and did this to them!"
"They happen to be in the way of my mission." J replied as she walked over to her. Ariados and Salamence were right behind their master and the giant spider hissed at Temperance. Temperance pushed up on the tree and got it up enough to try and get out. She winced as J placed a foot on the tree pushing down it back on her and back on the ground. She tried to push it up again, but J didn't move her weight. "You know what Temperance, I like you. You remind me a lot of myself."
"We are nothing alike." Temperance growled.
"Oh but we are, we do things on our own terms and lead without question. We go after the things we want with determination and we only attack at the right price because we know what things cost."
"So what, that means nothing. I don't go around breaking the law by stealing and attacking Pokémon and then sell them in the black market. I came here to have a journey to better understand different worlds, to create new relationships and to understand myself; I didn't come here to be captured by you."
"But the reason why I came here today was to catch you, and to start creating a world where I rule over all; a complete world of all the realms of the same planet."
"You can't, you don't know what could happen."
"I have a few ideas."
"What about all the innocent people and creatures that will die because of that?!" Temperance shouted as she saw the containers that held J's captures fly down from the ship. "You can't just kill them. What kind of leader is one without subjects?"
A sly grin appeared on J's face as she removed her glasses. "I don't care about the ones that die. They just weren't compatible with the new world that will come to be."
"You're sick."
"I'm not; you're just the one that can't accept reality."
"How can you accept a reality if it does not exist?" Another voice asked breaking the argument.
Temperance looked passed and saw green hair in a ponytail, pale skin and grey green-blue eyes. Her eyes widened as N walked towards them. He had a white dress shirt on partially opened with a black long sleeved turtle neck underneath. He had a black bag on his back from what she could tell and had a pair of white cargo pants. She blushed on how amazing he looked. The game could not suffice of how good looking he was. Salamence and Ariados stepped in front of N and started to attack him. He moved fluently as he avoided the attacks and grew closer to J.
J growled and turned to Drapion. "Get that tree off of her and grab her. I'm not freezing our merchandise just in case something happens."
"Drap." Drapion acknowledged and picked up the tree with ease and threw it into the burning forest.
Temperance jumped up and tackled J to the ground. Temperance didn't get a chance to do anything else as Drapion picked her up off of J with its large claws. It squeezed tightly causing her to scream sharply before loosening its grip slightly.
"Just like something I would do." J stated ignoring the fight behind her between her Pokémon and N. She pulled something off her belt. It unfolded to be some sort of restraint and placed it around Temperance's arms and torso. "Maybe when we are done with this little thing, I could make you my apprentice Temperance."
"Not interested."
"Stubbornness is also a trait I would love to have in my apprentice. But we can have this chat later; Salamence."
The dragon type Pokémon came towards the hunter and J jumped onto the dragon. Drapion placed Temperance on the dragon type. Salamence started to fly upwards as J returned Drapion and Ariados. Temperance saw the containers just about finished putting the captives in their cage. She growled in frustration of not wanting to hurt the Pokémon, even if it was J's, and decided to attack the human again. She kicked her and the two of them had a short fall to the ground. The wrap around her broke on the impact while J growled in a daze. She saw N go after the first few Pokémon before they could fly away. She went to the other half and released them before noticing that Ash, Brock and Pikachu were starting to head back to the air ship. Temperance sprinted and reached Brock's and Pikachu's cage before they got very far off the ground. They opened and Temperance heard them land face first into the dirt road as she jumped for Ash's. She barely got to Ash's and grabbed a hold of it instead as it fell back down to the ground. Temperance stumbled and N caught her as he lowered the switch of Ash's prison. Ash fell to the ground as he looked around in confusion.
"N, what are you doing here?"
N didn't answer as Brock and Pikachu walked over to them. They looked over at J. There was smoke everywhere as the sounds of sirens were heard. J looked over at them and aimed her cannon at Temperance and was about to fire when N turned her and placed him between the cannon and her. Temperance felt herself blush at the act of protection.
"Hunter J don't move! You are surrounded!" A woman's voice said over the sounds of things burning on a megaphone.
"Salamence use Dragon Pulse." J ordered in frustration.
The salamence used Dragon Pulse in their direction and in the direction of the voice. They were thrown off their feet and N still held her as he fell on to his back blocking her fall.
She got off of him and he sat up as dust blocked the view were J was. "Are you alright? I'm sorry you got dragged into this."
"I'm fine," N replied calmly looking over her as the dust started to dissipate. "But you aren't."
"I'm fine; just a few bruises." Temperance answered back as she turned to the burning forest and the confused hurt Pokémon that stood watching their homes burn. "It's nothing compare to the Pokémon who lived here are going through and it's all because of Hunter J. Who knows how many Pokémon could be seriously hurt or worse."
"Too many." N stated as he stood to his feet. Rain started to fall from the sky quickly soaking everything. Temperance stood up before she got mud on her.
"You guys should get out of the rain, I'm going to help the rangers and the nurses with making sure the Pokémon are healed." Brock said pulling out a poncho. "I'll meet you guys at the Pokémon center; it's not far by vehicle."
"And where are we supposed to get a vehicle?" Ash asked.
"You guys can catch a ride with me." Someone said behind Temperance. She turned to them and saw Officer Jenny walking towards them. "You guys were fighting against Hunter J right?"
"If you call one side doing all the attacking, then sure we were fighting against J." Ash stated.
"Avoiding being captured is what was actually happening." Temperance told the officer.
"Captured? I thought Hunter J was a Pokémon Hunter," Jenny asked.
"She's a hunter, Pokémon or people, it doesn't matter what they are for the right price." N growled. "Can we go now?"
Jenny nodded and led them away leaving Brock on his own. Officer Jenny led them to her cruiser and opened the door for them.
"Pokémon Center right?" Jenny asked.
"Yes please." Temperance said as she got in after Ash. She flopped in the middle and sighed. Her head pounded and everything hurt as the world spun about. She probably looked just as bad. She caught a glace from N who quickly went back to looking out the window. The ride took about thirty minutes of silence before Jenny stopped the vehicle in front of the Pokémon Center.
"Take care of yourselves and good luck." She said before they got out.
"We will, thanks for the ride." Ash replied and opened the door of the cruiser.
The rain was still pouring down, but Temperance just walked into the Pokémon Center. She had enough running and jumping for the day. When they walked in there were some Pokémon being taken to medical rooms and more arrived from the emergency door. There were several Nurse Joys in the same room, only one was behind the desk as she dealt with the last two people that were dripping wet and asking questions.
"What's with the sudden rain and all these Pokémon?" One of them asked.
"A forest fire, the rain is from a rain dance." Joy answered handing them towels. "Are you looking for rooms?"
"No, we have a place not far from here, thanks for the offer." The other said and the two people left and sat down at a table. Ash walked up to the counter and Temperance barely heard him ask for towels and rooms as she turned to N.
"So you're N."
"Yea and you're Temperance. It's a strange name for someone."
"And N isn't?"
"Better than my actual name."
Temperance waited for him to tell, but he didn't.
Ash came back and threw a towel at each of them. "I got rooms for us."
"Thanks Ash." N told him and took off his hat. "So what brings you guys to the Pincia region?"
"Last league to beat so I can become a Pokémon Master." Ash replied with a smile.
Pikachu nodded. "Pika, Pikachu."
"Right, come on out Aron."
Ash opened the Pokéball and the silver and grey creature came out with a stretch.
N bent down and rubbed the top of the Aron's head. "Aron is happy to be your Pokémon, and is also young, which means you haven't received your first badge yet."
"Not yet, we were on our way here when J's goons came out of nowhere and that whole mess started."
"Oh I see." N said standing up and turned to Temperance. "Can I presume that you are also on a journey?"
"Um, yea… I'm not exactly sure what my goal is right now as I'm sort of new to this world."
N blinked in confusion. "How long have you been on this journey?"
"About twelve days and an extra day in the world of Pokémon."
"So you aren't from this world."
Temperance suddenly felt awkward, she shouldn't have been sharing such information to a stranger, but it slipped out like she had known him forever. "Yea, it's a long story, but I'm not from outer space."
"Most beautiful looking alien girl I have ever seen if you did come from space." N remarked. "Though I have to say your eye color is unusual."
"Yea, they are the same color as my mother's apparently there is albino DNA somewhere on her side, she just doesn't know where it came from."
"So twelve days in on your journey, I want to say you're a beginner, but something tells me otherwise. You radiate Pokémon knowledge."
"She's an expert on Pokémon stats and a good strategist." Ash commented. "And already has two new friends on her journey. And she has this cool device that allows her to understand Pokémon."
"I wish I didn't have to use it all the time, I will learn how to understand them like you do N." She answered as her two Pokémon came out of their balls on their own. "This is Crystal and this is Eclipse."
N bent down again and looked at her two Pokémon. Temperance turned on her Pokétranslator.
"Piplup- you a looker!" Crystal remarked. N raised an eyebrow. "You just might be good enough for her, she already likes you."
"Crystal! You aren't being my match maker!" Temperance scolded but her face was feeling hot.
"What?" Ash questioned looking at her funny.
"Nothing," Temperance and N said at the same.
"Nice Crystal, he is pretty good looking, and I'm a guy." Eclipse raised a paw and Crystal high fived it with her wing.
Temperance facepalmed herself, "You guys…"
N stood up and she noticed a hint of red on his face, but it was gone when he turned to her. "There was one thing I was impressed about you, you didn't hurt a single one of J's Pokémon even know Drapion was attacking you and Salamence was giving J a lift."
"I'm not going to hurt anything unless they started it first. Those Pokémon were under the control of J and they like their job. But I'm not going to hurt them because they were under J's orders, which is why I tackled J and kicked her off the salamence in midflight."
"You tackled J and were in midflight when you knocked J off her Pokémon?" Ash asked in awe.
"Yeah, and the landing hurt like hell." Temperance said rubbing the very sore side. "This was when you were in that freeze thing."
"Lovely. Now, I know you are a pacifist, but could you punch J in the nose for that suspended animation thing. That almost made me sick to my stomach after waking up."
"Maybe."
"How come you didn't call us when you needed us?" Crystal asked sounding offended.
"Because those Pokémon were way too leveled up for you guys to take on, I didn't want to see you get hurt or worst."
"I could have taken them." Eclipse stated and then roared, like a baby lion.
"Those Pokémon were easily forty levels higher than you." N replied.
"Then we will get tougher to beat those Pokémon and that evil hunter." Crystal stated. "We will be the best."
"What she said." Eclipse said.
"Well the best way to do that is by training and then Gym battles, but I'm not sure if I want to be in that kind of combat, it just seems…" Temperance trailed off.
"Violent." Ash finished.
"Yeah."
"Well, your sister doesn't seem to have a probably using violence and neither does J so you might want to think about your opponents here."
"You know, I was against the thought of Pokémon gym battles, but they are a good way to create strategies and even become closer with your Pokémon." N said. "And there are also contests that are a good way to show off the potential of your Pokémon and be creative with your moves which is another way to strategize."
Temperance turned to her Pokémon. "What do you guys want to do, I have knowledge in both so which ever you wish or neither is an option too."
"We want to be the very best!" Eclipse declared.
"Like no one ever was!" Crystal added with a wing in the air.
"Which means?" Temperance asked.
"We'll do both." They answered in unison.
"Sounds like they have made up their mind." Ash smirked.
"Yes they have," N said with amusement. "Now, I am going to head to my room to change out of these wet clothes and then I want to discuss something with you."
"What would that be N?"
"I want to know if Temperance is really one of the people from the other dimension to combine the dimensions and the give life to the Evren."
And that's it! I hopefully will be updating soon, not like that horrible year wait. But yea!
